So after my last video with the Skydio 2 in the trees i had some people wondering what this could do in a faster setting. So i took my bike and went out to the fastest trail in our area to see how it would do!
The total flight time on this was 18 minutes, however there is a lot of just flat traversing and small climbs in between the faster downhill sections and I decided to cut those out to make the video a bit shorter and more watchable, If you guys do have interest in seeing a full flight sometime let me know. I would be happy to try and film an entire batteries worth of flight and upload it if that is something you are into.
The color on this video was straight from the drone and non graded. I synced the audio with my gopro footage, however if you use the smartphone app with the Skydio 2 you can actually capture audio straight from your phone.

I originally had a more elaborate idea and intro planned for this video, with the drone following my friend and i driving up the road in RZR, before getting dropped off at the top. But ultimately it just ended up making the video kind of boring right at the start so I decided to cut it and go straight into the action. If you guys want to see some RZR footage though i do have some i could upload at some point!

This application is where that drone shined the brightest. The footage was great from every angle but I particularly enjoyed the rear left. I have never seriously considered purchasing a drone before but these few videos that you have done on these Skydio has me reconsidering... Great work!

tcpiptv Just curious, what are you basing your opinion on? I feel the footage is pretty good and the autonomous features are very applicable for mountain biking. Features aside the quality of the footage seems comparable to other drones in this price range. I have no experience whatsoever with any drones but do have eyes that can see and find the footage just fine for additional shots to add to a trail video. Personally, I would only use it as that, additional clips.
Scouts Honor Personally I felt it didn’t do that well when he tried it in the trees autonomously. It was better than others but not to great. I was intrigued by the simplicity of controlling this drone. Apparently it does very well in the trees while being piloted though. This was just the most effective result I have seen to any application yet.

This video does not even begin to show how steep, sandy, and rocky that trail is. Kyle is making a steep janky trail look like a casual flow trail. Excellent work man.

Finally someone using this drone in a decent test situation you would use this in, instead of trying to fly it through a forest of brambles or make it follow you on a jog in a local park...the front follow definitely works better at slower speeds but has no worries keeping up...I have a Mavic 2 but as a snowboarder I really want this drone! Unfortunately it's not available until next year in Europe and also keen to see DJIs response

Wow, did you see it miss that electric tower! Nice! I would like to see some of the movements smoothed out a bit more still, its tough to watch a super cinematic action shot go unusable in the middle due to a more robotic looking shift. I'm sure that will continue to get better and everything I've seen so far is amazing! Can't wait to play with it myself!

A little bit of 1st person perspective like what Kyle has shown here is fine but the vast majority of mountain bike videos on RUclips consist of nothing but GoPro chest & helmet footage and little or nothing else. Those videos SUCK! There's no thought or effort much less creativity or story going into those videos at all. Total crap.

Beautiful man. Like you hired a helicopter crew to chase you. The front mode was impressive. Hard to gauge speed and intended direction from the front. It kept you considerably in frame. Those are some long wide open spaces.

I’ve been wanting to get one of these for ages, it’s a bit expensive but it’s so good, I prefer an automatic drone cause I can film and it won’t crash and it just follows me. Can’t wait to get one of these

That drone is incredible for this type of thing.
You can kinda tell its working really hard but there are a ton of really good clips in there if you're cutting it up with gopro and camera shots. This thing is sick

Oddly enough I've yet to see a video using Skydio drone footage. I see tons of videos of people "testing" it to see what it can do. Looking forward to seeing what you will do with it.
This video was a good use of what it can do! Dang! Nice ride my man!! Getting my Skydio 2 end of this month. Can't wait...I'll be doing more OneWheel XR riding but exactly what I wanted to see. The Skydio kept up with you perfectly. I think the video looks better at times following from behind (personal choice), but nice to see how it handles from the front as well. A lot of other drones have trouble following from the front like that so was a great stress test on this little guy. You crushed that ride by the way...nicely done! I use to ride mountain bike but after getting busted up one to many times finally packed it in...LOL Thanks for the video! Oh, one thing I did notice was around 3:36 the coloring of the grass seemed to change quite a bit. Guessing everything was set to AUTO in the camera. Not a big deal...just an observation...

Great video! Greetings from Finland. This is the best follow drone video in here for sure. I have seen so many DJI drone videos and they are not as good as yours. I also like how skydio is moving more than some other drones. Great job and finally the distance to rider was ok, not just a small dot in the landscape :-)

Fun to see some killer footage from Trail 4. This thing is impressive. I feel like the footage looks a bit better when the drone is farther away from the subject. I think I'll pre-order one. (will be my 4th drone purchase)
Yeah totally, I think that with some time and experience you would be able to sort out what works best and I think to a certain extent using the 4k mode, a bit further back, and then cropping in during post may look really good and you could pick your framing a bit more
@@AprilRideMTB I'm accustomed to key-framing just about every drone shot I make, so I'm pretty confident I can get nice footage with the Skydio 2.

Very nice again! Very impressed with how well it did trying to keep in front of you and predict movement. Sure you can see the props a few times. but only after a quick direction change.

The follow function is good, and well worth the money for the craft, but I did notice a lot of props in the shots in the beginming
Yeah it struggles when flying in front and looking down. They are aware of the problem now though!
super awesome tech. What would be really awesome is if they implemented some self learning AI into the software that learns and gets smoother and better at predicting movement the more you use it. like it woulds start to understand the way your specifically using it then adjust how it flies and how it predicatively tracks you based on previous flights. I think that type of self learning AI could also be great for improving the framing of the shots. sometimes it does a really great job, but like at one point it was almost like the drone was flying backwards and looking at you upside down for a while haha
Yeah i think it would be awesome to pre set tracks or scripts and have it follow those directions. Maybe in the future! I will pass that info along!

This is great. Thinking about getting one. Only one problem though ,,,, I’m a XC rider and prefer not to carry a big backpack on me while riding. Wish Skydio 2 legs fold.

The Skydio 2 takes flight control and obstacle avoidance beyond GPS lock and proximity sensors. Skydio 2 is a truly autonomous flying camera system. Nothing like it exists. Backorders (now 11/19) will not be filled until 7/20
