Please add the return to launch point feature to the beacon ! It’s critical for watersports filming
Just want to repeat one request that has already been mentioned here a few times. It would be awesome to provide us beach-launch-Watersport-users (surfing, kiteboarding, windsurfing, foiling, etc) with a Return-to-home manual control option on the beacon. Pretty please 🙏. Even better would be a low battery auto-return-to home function, but I’ll be happy with a manual button to start with. Thanks! Love this drone!!

Thanks Nicole, very informative video. I'd like to suggest making the Drone's battery life indication a bit larger. Reading it on the go ether in a waterproof bag or glancing at while riding isn't easy.

A rth button that works well would be helpful. Works great with the phone, not so much just using the beacon especially if you cant visually see where it's stuck back down the trail

Question Nicole: Double tapping feature? How is the dept determined? If I point to a random point on screen, how does it know where (how close or far away to go?) 2D screen and 3rd space that it has to navigate to? Thanks
At 3:08 I noticed a beacon mount for the bike handlebars. Do you sell those??

In the video it shows the hand catch being performed while the yellow lights are blinking but in your manual it specifically states to wait until the lights turn blue before attempting a hand catch. Which is the correct way?

Hi Nicole I just ordered mine Sport Package so hopefully it will get here before Spring. Anyhow do you recommend that we always have Beacon and the Skydio Phone App when flying for backup?
That's our suggestion as the app offers more utility and control for when you need it.

You also don't have the instruction on how to turn the beacon off by holding the stop button. You should include a "how it works" section that talks about the tech (it's cool) and what all the buttons do

How do you activate the record option on the beaacon if you don't have auto record enabled?
Recording will default to auto if you are only flying with the beacon.
Question, should you for better connection connect the beacon to Skydio and then connect your phone to the beacon. Or just fly with the beacon... Thanks Dave...
We recommend pairing the beacon to your phone after you've connected to the drone - this will provide the strongest connection!
@@Skydio Hi so then connect the phone to the drone first, then connect the beacon to the phone, correct? I was starting up the drone, then starting the beacon and then connecting to drone then starting phone app and changing the wifi to connect to beacon. So if I understand now I have it reversed.
Is/will there be any way to access the features/change the modes on the Beacon remotely, e.g. using the controller? There's no way a kiteboarder for example with a Beacon in a waterproof case carabinered to themselves is going to be able to safely (or any other way) access or change anything. Also, if an object can be tracked w/o the Beacon, and you have a controller, and we have the limitations used in the kiteboarder example, where exactly does the Beacon come into play?
Hey Christopher, the Controller can be used to change the tracking angles/modes while your subject is using the Beacon, however, your range will be limited by the wireless range because you'll be using the signal from Beacon instead of the controller when using them in conjunction with each other.
The Beacon comes into play when you either have A. lost subject (Skydio 2 uses GPS to relocate and require the subject visually) or B. the subject goes behind an obstacle where Skydio 2 cannot see it (Once again, the Beacon will use GPS to locate the subject).
@@Skydio Thanks for the response. I'll admit to being a little confused, but in any event, unless you're all about filming yourself, having *any* controls on the Beacon seems... off. Even if you are, go back to the kiteboarder example again. They have no free hands to control anything with. I'd like to have seen all the controls on the controller, with the Beacon being more of a... beacon, and the Controller and Beacon sold as an inseparable package. And any control of the beacon relayed through the Skydio if there are issues with the Beacon communicating directly with the controller and/or vice/versa.
I want the Skydio locked on the Beacon; I want to be able to control *how* it's locked on, following patterns, etc from the controller. I mean, I can't tell the subject "yea, when you clear the end of the pier, I need you to take the Beacon out, and make these adjustments" [list follows]. Am I making sense?
@@christopherrusho1305 actually i kiteboard, kitefoil and wingfoil. For me the ideal pre-water-session control is to have a return-to-home (takeoff location at the shoreline) function that can be set to initiate at a certain battery level. This way the drone always returns to the take off location before it runs out of battery and does not require any input from the rider or anyone else during the session. This is what Staaker did on their tracking drone, and it worked great.

I had it in a fanny pack on me when I was on a dirt bike and it just fine.
Incorrect. You can place the Beacon in your pocket, but make sure the buttons are facing away from your body. Do not place the Beacon in a rucksack with other wireless signal devices. Placing it in a sucksack is also a bad idea because it would take too long to take over control of Skydio 2 in an emergency. The Beacon should be easily accessible.
How is the skydio on places where even cell phone services has no signal? Will it matter?
Skydio has its own wifi you can use to connect to the drone.
does the skydio always follow the beacon? or can i use the beacon as a crontrol unit to track a different person without a beacon?
When using the Beacon, Skydio 2 will always try and follow who it thinks is holding the Beacon. However, you can also use the controller to track the user holding the Beacon.
@@Skydio is it possible that i hold the baecon and track a different person. so that i use the baecon as an easy remote controller?
When I'm in the steering mode, I can't exit taping the red button ? I have to land and restart everything, what's the problem ?
You need to tap the red button, navigate back to your tracking mode of choice using the left arrow, then press the blue Skydio button to enter the tracking mode.

Skydio2 is difficult to fly. My beacon GPS sync drained the battery it self all the time. GPS signal weak, nope. The beacon just ignores the GPS signal.
Does it come with backward function?
Yes it can fly backward!

Can't Skydio 2 automatically switch to visual tracking to follow you through a tunnel after it loses GPS signal?! I really wanted to go through some tunnels when mine arrives...
Skydio 2 will always attempt to use visual tracking. It must be close enough to see you, otherwise it will fallback to GPS.
@@Skydio So it can follow me through a tunnel as long as it is close enough to me to see me go through it? Like if it is behind me and relatively close it can follow me through the tunnel?
@@wheelingfamilyrobinson8792 Yep! As long as there is enough light in the tunnel and Skydio 2 is close enough that it doesn’t need to revert to GPS to locate you, you should be able to fly through tunnels.
@@Skydio Cool! How about if it's low enough and in front of me, looking back at me as I approach the tunnel, will it fly into the tunnel first in front of me?
@@wheelingfamilyrobinson8792 depends on the situation, speed, but mostly the size of the tunnel.
So my Skydio is really doing very well on it's tracking ... one question though, is there a way to tell sydio to stay tracking one person? I noticed from my last ride (me + 3 other riding close to each other), ride started with skydio tracking Me positioned 3rd from the rider in front and I have the beacon, but after a bit while, skydio automatically tracked the guy in front ... I mean no big deal, but is this normal?? Is there a setting where it's locked on to just tracking me ? below is the link to that video.

Audio can only be recorded when using the mobile app in conjunction with the Beacon. The Beacon does not have an internal mic.

Ok so for $100 extra you get Beacon without strep? This is a essential thing to have for this when you sell
How the hell do you record video
The Skydio 2 desperately needs a "return to beacon" function. When the battery is getting low it is so difficult to get the drone to come close enough for a safe landing or a hand catch. When the battery is low the steering and point functions disable and all you can do is make the drone come as close as possible but it still hovers 30' to 50' away and it might be over water, a cliff, anything dangerous. I want it to come directly above ME and land on ME. I am where it is safe to land...ALWAYS; but there is no Beacon function to tell it to come to ME...the guy holding the beacon who is naturally positioned in a safe spot. Major oversight in my opinion. I hope you enable this function with a software update soon...
try this: switch to Fixed Track beacon skill and hold the minus button to bring it pretty close to you. Then Steer beacon skill to perform your usual landing sequence.
@@MTBrVK The only problem with this is the steering command disables when the battery is low, like lower than 5%. So when you need to land quickly the most, it disables the useful functions..."Return to Beacon" is what is most needed during these "emergency" circumstances...

Sorry dear, you're going too fast to "track" and clearly see.
Maybe it's coz I'm 72 now? Thinkin' to buy but if "flying by" with just significances with slower showing of the operating detail just won't work I should think with most everyone.
Need hookup with beacon part in beginning too.
Even though people stumble onto these videos maybe a year later, they are still relevant. But Skydio chooses not to answer questions after a few months of posting, leaving users scratching their heads. See....I'd ask something but, I know it's a waste of time.
