Casey Edwards is a MASSIVE DMC fan and this song was written as a defining song for the character of Vergil.
We don't hear every single part of the song in the game, but Casey said in an interview that he wanted to leave no stone unturned and release the ENTIRE thing.
This wasn't just a song. It was a work of PURE passion.
I desperately wish Casey Edwards also made Dante's theme song. Subhuman is no good.

I think you meant to say pure MOTIVATION.
Dude half way through this song I noticed that Vergil's theme has some of the same notes and melodies as Devil trigger. That's so fucking smooth.
I love the connection between Vergil’s theme and his son’s theme. It’s just very fitting that Vergil and Nero would have some crossover. Especially with how close to being like Vergil Nero was in 4. Nero has the same lust for power as his father, he just didn’t let it consume him.
It had more than just that one, thats why is so cool
I heard it has also connection to dmc 3 dante theme and the new one

@@hisnotsolonely2961 I've been saying this! There is a moment in bury the light that matches up with devils never cry from DMC 3,as far as tune and musical theme

The amount of energy put into that line just makes you want to pull your devil trigger! XD
Yamato is the name of the demon of death in Japanese mythology, and this implies that the Yamato is the last thing he has left of his father.
@@erikdahl6861 Maybe it also means that Sparda, his father, is the Demon of Death (as in all mighty and powerful).
Vergil's got the right idea.
It’s cool how in a way, music producers know what Vergil is as a character somewhat, just by listening to his main theme
Just shows how powerful music can be at its best
And what a genius Casey is
Casey really told Vergils story in a single song.
It just shows how much passion Casey has when it came to making this soundtrack. Absolutely beautiful!
Music producers can tell things that most people can't because music is kinda standardized. What I mean is that some feelings or sounds are associated with specific types of sounds. By knowing the standards, you can tell what a music is trying to represent.
Some examples: lightning is usually represented by stacatos, to imitate the crackling sound it produces. You'll never hear a lightning bolt with a long note. Sad songs are the opposite, they're represented by soft long notes. Etc etc 🤷♂️.
Best comment
That deepness ain't a synth, its the Dirtiest Bass Casey could muster without being straight Mick Gordan in distortion lol
Not even a bass; Casey was straight told no guitars of any type, so he actually DID pull a Mick Gordon to make guitar-like and bass-like sounds.
@@Xanatrix in an interview Apex Moukala, Casey said no distored guitars but in choruses was allowed so he went with distored bass and still added distorted guitars for the solo anyway lol maybe he meant Bass tone I just assumed he meant bass guitar since I know of Cliff Burton making his big and distorted af back in the day
I love dirty bass
it actually is a synth lol, a bass synth
It’s a heavy fat Reese
It's written not for a certain moment, but for the character, Vergil. The song plays during his every fight while you're playing for him. And there're a lot of fights in DMC, lol
P.S. Also in was not electro, it was extremely high bass, according to Casey himself.
P.P.S. In game during Vergil's fights the song changes according to style points in the certain fight you get. E.g. the chorus plays when you hit S rank. So the song accompliments your gameplay.
SSS gets you the solo and it's so fucking awesome to fight to lol

So apparently Casey was given some limitations with this song by Capcom, one of which was they told him he couldn't use distorted guitars in anything but the chorus
i hate when publishers limit the creativity of amazing music creators, same happend to mick gordon, but he didnt gave a damn and still made it metal.

Fun fact, the final... chorus? Whatever, the final lines sang by Victor match to the tune of Nero's song, Devil Trigger (also written by Casey Edwards). Not syllable wise, but just the pacing.
BtL: "Bury the light deep within"
DT: 'Embrace the darkness that's within me'
"Cast aside, there's no coming home."
'No hiding in the shadows anymore.'
"We're burning chaos in the wind."
'When this wickedness consumes me'
"Drifting in the ocean all alone."
'Nothing can save you and there's no way out.'
You can sing these matching lines from Bury the Light in Devil Trigger and vice versa and it fits.
Have you ever listen to Devils never Cry from DMC 3 The chorus is a mirrode version of Bury the light

@MIKEY777 who's gonna tell him that bass is not guitar
No one is motivated to tell him that its not guitar? I WILL.
in case you were unaware, this song is tied to the story of the character vergil (the guy on screen) and his quest for power at any cost, but time and again, no matter how many battles he fought, no matter how much power he gained, he could never truly defeat his brother Dante in Combat, after suffering defeat after defeat after defeat, his body was on the verge of death, so in a desperate bid, he stole his own son's arm (which was also his sword the Yamato, but lets not get into THAT clusterfuck) and used it to separate his Human and demon halves, in order to kill an entire City's worth of humans, drain their blood into a tree, and rejoin with himself to create the ultimate being. And then he got his ass kicked by his son whose arm he stole. His entire story is how he will do anything for power, even attempt to cast aside what little Light was left in him, his human half. But even all that wasn't enough to Defeat his brother.
Its kind of tragic really, all this started because he believed his mother abandoned him as a child
I think it could also represent Vergil believing that he's too far gone to be redeemed even if he wanted to be. It could be him saying "after everything I've done, it's better for me to throw it all away than cling to the hope that I can have a second chance."
Either way, I'm glad 5 marks the end of the tale of the Sons of Sparda. Dante's reunited with his brother and managed to (mostly) calm him down. Nero now knows that he has a family. Vergil has a reason to live besides getting stronger.
'all this started because he believed his mother abandoned him as a child'
POV no mother figure: "POWER!"
As far as I’m aware, Vergil had no way of knowing Urizen would use the Yamato to open a portal to the underworld and grow a Qliphoth tree, killing millions of innocents. All he knew was that the Yamato could separate man and demon, and believed his humanity was what made him weak, like a shackle piercing through to his bones. After all, his father was a pure demon and yet had honor and loyalty, raised a loving family for 8 years, so who was Vergil to say his pure demon form wouldn’t have been like his father? Also the same moment V was born from their separation, V knew Urizen had to be stopped. He realized that it was the human part that held all the honor and loyalty, every redeemable aspect of Vergil. And since V had all the humanity of Vergil, Urizen had nothing to redeem himself.
Thats what i like about this trio of character...even though his brother or his son could beat him..once you start playing him, you understand why he believe he is the strongest ;)
God… it seems as though Vergil is a character forced to live in a world of despair, without hope that he will ever be redeemed. But now that his human and demon selves have become one, he has come to realize what true power is.
Casey Edwards, the producer/songwriter/singer for this song and a majority of the DMC 5 soundtrack, has done a lot of work with none other than Mick Gordon, the genius behind the soundtracks for both Doom games. Casey has carried the aggressive, distorted sound from DOOM over to his own style, so while he still relies more on traditional metal conventions in the DMC 5 soundtrack, you can still hear Mick’s influence on his sound. Pretty cool!
The singer is Victor Borba tho

Everytime that "I am the storm" hits, any composure I had trying to keep from headbanging is absolutely gone.
IDK if anyone in chat clarified later but I believe the song was so long to better serve it being dynamic in the moment. The music was used for fights and it tried to adapt and increase in hype and intensity based on how well you were performing. DMC is a game that rewards and encourages fighting stylishly and with high skill. Also the song's just badass.
Great reaction and breakdown as always, Joey!
@Raméto yeah, gotta go (tictac) is awesome
@Raméto The game by itself was fine. The issue was that it tried to ride on the coat tails of the DMC franchise and change it almost entirely, scoffing at fans of the original along the way. If they hadn't tried to milk the DMC name, I actually believe the game would have exploded and even been compared directly to DMC as a rival franchise.
@Raméto also, the whole "WOKE" thing was so pretentius
@@CageNightwind exactly if that game was called like idk, Heaven nor Hell, or some shit it would have sold fine cause ninja theory had a god reputation and they could have just said it was inspired by devil may cry. Change some names and macro plot details and boom, you got a new character action series to stand along side bayo and dmc. Instead we got a pretty good game that just put a bad taste in a bulk of the genre's fanbase mouths. in perspective for anyone wondering it'd be like making a retro fps and shitting on doom, that's how important dmc is to this genre. Oh well, at least it had good music
Actually Casey Edwards said in an interview it didn't have to be that long, but hes such a fan of Vergil and thought "This may be my last chance to show my live to Vergil... Time to go ALL OUT." And went absolutely wild on this track.

Yeah, the song has to be long because it's a characters battle theme, so when your in a fight it has to play for a lengthy amount of time, and the better you are fighting the louder the song gets, so thats cool, i do think a shortened version would be cool tho
The whole song doesn't get completely played in-game tho. It's just long because Casey Edward wanted it to. It could have been easily 6 minutes, just like Devil Trigger.
@@mithril5155 I mean, 6 minutes is still pretty long, the songs still have to be a little bit lengthy for battle

Also "Shall Never Surrender" from DMC4, very good
This characters theme samples his sons theme "Devil Trigger". Where Vergil's theme is "Bury the Light deep within" his sons uses the same chords with "Embrace the Darkness thats within me"
Not only is it an incredible song. Its very symbolic for the character.
In the game the more hits you get the more instruments come into the song. If your combo is low its kinda mellow, but it gets crazy when you're fighting like 10 enemies and the song speeds up and gets louder.
Never noticed it, that's so cool!!
The final verse and the instrumental accompaniment is a leitmotif of Devil Trigger, which is his son's theme. The song is supposed to evoke the feeling of his character developing over the course of the game... or at least the added chapter that allowed Vergil to be playable to show his side of the story.
EDIT: Forgot to mention the vocals near 13:00 are supposed to be like a response and counter to the chorus in "Devils Never Cry" from DMC3
If you know the feeling of waiting 11 years for a game to come out. You can IMAGINE how we felt when Vergil was officially added.
I believe the song writer, the vocalist, the instrumentalists, and the music producers really poured their hearts and souls into the song. This is passion and this is what happens when you do something passionately ❤🖤
Bury the light in my opinion has the potential to be seen as a 21st century classic. Looked back on in hundreds of years as a masterpiece in the same way we look at classical masterpieces now. It really is that good.

Ladies and gentlemen, this soundtrack will be forever carved into the timeline and the people who are currently unaware of it will think to themselves, 'where were we when they created this?'.
I bet no other Devil May Cry track, or any track from any game / album / movie will ever compare to this.
You can literally feel the song energize you as you listen through. And believe me, this song will resonate over the years to come.
Truly a masterpiece! Well done Casey and Victor! Well done!
(P. S. - I just feel bad for the people that are missing out on this.)
agree
Now I'm MOTIVATED
