I super appreciate your attention to detail and also nerding out on the modulations, borrowed chords, etc. It makes all the work that went into it worth it all over again when I get to witness reactions like these. THANKS! 🤘
The reason the song from 12:45 and out feels so raw compared to the rest of the song is because when writing this song, they told Casey the song only had to be about 7 minutes or so (I don't remember exactly what they said specifically, all I remember was that he was allowed to end the song at that point), but because he assumed this would be his last time making music for DMC, he decided to go all out for the ending, adding an extra 2 or so minutes of pure, raw emotion as a love letter to the DMC franchise
That's right. The music doesnt play for long ingame but with all the transitions and dynamism, they need to be quite long. So they would need about 7 minutes. Then Casey took it to the next level! They responded by having it be the final boss music in the Vergil DLC.
Fun fact, Casey Edwards was told he couldn't use guitars at all, only for the chorus toward the end. So he had to improvise and use synthesizers to make the heavy parts and everything before. Another fun fact too, Casey Edwards studied under Mick Gordon, the composer of the DOOM Soundtrack for the modern games. Which is why it has a similar feel. Oh and Bury the Light shares chord progression with Devil Trigger which is top notch.
go watch casey's interview with alex moukala he say that he was Explicitly told no guitar out side that part, so no he isn't using guitars but a bass instead.@@winn3975
@@winn3975wrong. Casey was specifically told by Capcom to not include any guitar instruments till the end of the song. Which is where the solo starts, at the end.
I've never played DMC, but I heard this song in a meme and fell in love with it from the first seconds. It's a rare masterpiece. Even without knowing the character, you feel his personality through the music. This is art.

Casey didn't have to go this hard, he was only required to make a song for Vergil a couple of minutes and fairly basic. Casey was all like: "Hold my beer."
He had to go hard, because he says in one of his video that capcom has a track record of giving chances to new music talents in each newer games. He thought this might be his last project with them, and thus, he poored his heart and soul on this one.
The wild thing is that up to 12:45, it's all synth. The Devs told the music writers not to have guitars. That's why the last part is so raw, he added electric guitar as a personal omage. Vergil is one of his favourite characters ever and you can feel it. The passion slaps so god damn hard.
I dunno why people misconstrue this point so often. there's still electric guitar in the chorus, and there's acoustic guitars during the verses. the restriction was no electric guitars outside of the chorus, and they later made the exception for the ending section.

That breathing and holding during classic guitar solos is totally on point. I can actually see it in other solos that I really love in metal ! That explains why I love certain metal solos and some not so much!
Honestly... how it was all written is one thing. To match all these sounds and stuff together must have been a hard time in itself. But I think the vocals are the reason I think I continue to come back to this song. Just how the vocalist sounds is just... perfect with all the sounds and the instrumentals I'm this.

With Bury the light you can imagine the entrance of the main antagonist (in this case Vergil) at the start then as the "fight" or music progresses it gets more and more intense with breaks in between, until you reach the massive climax near the end. You could also see the solo section almost in a similar albeit smaller scale to this to where he shows up, massive climatic moment, then they are gone as quickly as they arrive. I only just found your channel but your passion for music and actually enjoying what your listening too while dissecting it is very admirable! This song's like an earworm for me Hear it once, or think about it, and I'm gonna be playing it a bunch for a while XD Really happy to see your reaction to this
My favorite part to watching reactions to this song is that modulation in the chorus, and yours totally didn't disappoint! It's such a risky move but it's so effective in this song!
@@LionmightOfficialso looking forward to that, subhuman is often overlooked but it's just as good as devil trigger imo, although bury the light is my favourite
The breathing/space part that makes solo instrumental part like singing explanation has earned u my sub👏👏👏 Can't put words together any better than that
The first time I listened to this song I was alone in my room with my headset minding my own business when this came on. Holy fuck I had goosebumps from start to finish. At the end it felt so emotional my eyes filled with water I was like wtf is going on lol.
I like how the song ended like a storm as well; ground quaking, sky bursting, and all encompassing guttural instrumentals . And at the end, the storm didn't stop and neither did the song come to a close. It's still thundering but less loud now. The maelstrom only passed over you and continued onward. It's probably just because it sounds cooler to have the song fade away instead of an abrupt end, but I like this thought more. Makes it more poetic/symbolic or something. And Vergil would respect the use of that violin at the end!
Your comments about musical performances needing that space to breathe and reflect the soul of it's player, much like a vocalist, is such an inspired concept, I love it! Definitely a brilliant way for music to sound less mechanical and overly produced
I have a feeling this video is going to be a doozy! It would be cool to have a reaction on the opening theme of Super Smash Bros. Brawl :D And happy video to all!
The things you teach and how you describe the music actually fits unbelievably well with Vergil's character, like that angel part you mentioned. Yes he's a devil but he's movement and attacks are somewhat elegant which contrasts Dante's song which is full demon like intensity and brutish.
I'd love to see a reaction to some of the tracks from Final Fantasy 14. Footfalls, Shadowbringers, Ultima Thule, Metal: Brute Justice Mode, What Angel Wakes Me are all great candidates for reactions.
You should really do a reaction video on the Frostpunk soundtrack. The Game is about surviving in an apocolyptic winter set in the 1800s as the last city on earth. I recommend listening to 'the city must survive' from the main game, to 'the last autumn' and the 'on the edge' theme from the two dlc's. It's entirely orchestral, and my personal favourite soundtrack of all time. I always love watching these reaction videos, because I love learning about what makes the music I listen to so captivating.
I am glad to stumble upon this channel tbh, this is amazing! love your reactions and the violin play along! If you are reading this, i hope that you will consider reacting to Project Wingman Soundtracks because they are phenomenal. Especially one in particular favorite of mine, titled "Kings" which is the final boss battle song played during this duel between ace above a ruined city.
Omg I just discovered you today and let me just say I apologize for just now discovering you because you are amazing man the way you break it down into depth for new listeners is just mesmerizing. You sir just earned a subscriber and I can’t wait to listen to new taste of music from you keep it up. Also you killed it at the end👌🏿 P.s. I just started playing DMC today like I watched all the gameplay but never got the chance to play it but now I do same as metal gear solid and let me just say it just brings me a trip down memory lane the feeling is astonishing
You should definitely react to Frostpunk ost. It's a game about post-apocalyptic frozen world where people trying to survive in society and soundtrack contains all the feel of frozen wastelands, loss of hope, rise of discontent and great danger aproaching. And by some reasone I feel the vibe of old times, like this type of music is what I would expect to hear if I was back in times of British or Russian empire in around 1900. When people listened for classical music and it was epic and dramatic.
You should definitely check out the Metal Hellsinger soundtracks. Metal Hellsinger has already received an award several times for the best video game soundtrack. The most famous metal bands have made one or more songs for the game.
From a musician to another..you spoke of what is in my mind , heart and ear!! and in details too! Thank You for this amazing reaction and cool pointing SPG. Thanks also to Casey Edwards..who made me witness this masterpiece in my life time.
fun fact: if you play modded terraria, you probably know the mod called “the stats above” the strongest weapon you can get is called “bury the light” (it is so strong that in the calamity mod you need auric bars to craft it)
My favorite part of the song is definitely the solo just after the verse, where it sounds like it’s spiraling upward, absolutely blew me away the first time and still gives me goosebumps. Casey Edwards or whoever wrote this song and performed it is a god among peasants.
Seeing as you are taking suggestions! I would absolutely ADORE a look at the music from the game “Touhou: Luna Nights”, it is not an official touhou title but it is officially recognized by ZUN and has some really fun remakes of classic themes from EOSD which is the game Luna Nights is based apon! It is byfar one of my favorite games and is a total love letter to the franchise its based on!
Ever since DMC5 released Vergil as a playable character, this song has been such a freaking banger every single time, even mentioning Vergil automatically plays this song plus The song encapsulates Vergil'a childhood and his pursue of power in exchange of abandoning his humanity in hopes of getting it since deep inside he's afraid of getting hurt or someone getting hurt and because of him, he now is on a quest to search for power that can truly surpass Sparda (Vergil's father) and be able to stand up against the challenges before him, may it be demons, angels or even Dante (his twin brother) One thing's for sure, the song itself is an empowering feeling yet hiding a sad, lonely secret that only Vergil keeps inside
You KNOW a guitarist is at the peak of talent when they give you such a clean, precise solo and you can feel their joy at playing and they just take their time to just put pure melody into our ears. It's my favourite part of the song and it's what inspired me to learn to play. It's not flashy, it's not hardcore or over the top, it's just.... amazing talented play that KNOW he enjoyed performing.
Casey Edwards is phenomenal! The fact that he came up with something like this as well as Devil Trigger are amazing! Glad you enjoyed it! Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go find my MOTIVATION again

Also i can recommend you some ost's from "Supergiant games"... games:D
Hades ("In the Blood", "God of the Dead", "Good Riddance", "Out of Tartarus")
Transistor ("We All Become", "Old Friend", "She Shines")
Pyre ("In The Flame")
Bastion ("Setting Sail, Coming Home", "In Case Of Trouble", "Bynn The Breaker")
Add lament of Orpheus to that list for Hades.
the true meaning of "motivation" in a music
12:51 my mans going to heaven with this one🌥🌥
Devil May Cry is one of my absolute favourite game series and this song is suuuch a love letter!
If you want another DMC music recommendation I'd say Devil trigger is a definite good option. As for another Game altogether?
The "Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance" Game has some amazing hits included in it's line up! Keep up the positive vibe's and work my dude! :)
I was not expecting you to react to Bury the Light at all. It's a very welcomed surprise though.
WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT VIOLIN SOLO IN THE END!!! I'm just sitting here with my jaw on the floor like a 5 year old on his first christman receiving the BIGGEST present after your violin solo, I bow before your sheer skill and SSS rank good sir!!
This song's like an earworm for me
Hear it once, or think about it, and I'm gonna be playing it a bunch for a while XD
Really happy to see your reaction to this
Yooo the violin you add at the end was sick from start to finish, truly a D-SSS combo instantly
3:05 Literally me the first time I heard this
Your analysis and analogies were fantastic as well!
and omg that electric violin playing in the end, WOW!!
My favorite part to watching reactions to this song is that modulation in the chorus, and yours totally didn't disappoint! It's such a risky move but it's so effective in this song!
Now that you've enjoyed this song, I recommend listening to Devil Trigger, which serves as Nero's theme in DMCV.
EDIT: And there we go!
I already filmed my reactions for all 4 main character themes. Now you all just need to patiently wait when I feel like uploading the rest.
@@LionmightOfficialI imagine you heard the DVMC5 themes, but you should hear Dante's in DMVC3 too (Devils never cry)
@@socxz_psycho one at a time.
@@LionmightOfficialso looking forward to that, subhuman is often overlooked but it's just as good as devil trigger imo, although bury the light is my favourite
The breathing/space part that makes solo instrumental part like singing explanation has earned u my sub👏👏👏
Can't put words together any better than that
The first time I listened to this song I was alone in my room with my headset minding my own business when this came on. Holy fuck I had goosebumps from start to finish. At the end it felt so emotional my eyes filled with water I was like wtf is going on lol.
This is one of my favorite video game songs out there. Plus I'm a very big fan of Vergil
Also Hakita dropped two new songs
My body overflows with a feeling of power, surging through me with this song.
I feed off of certain music like this, until it has been drained dry.
"now im a little motivated" - vergil
As a young composer in my free time, it’s extremely inspiring to hear your wisdom as you explain which parts stand out and why!
I have a feeling this video is going to be a doozy! It would be cool to have a reaction on the opening theme of Super Smash Bros. Brawl :D
And happy video to all!
Thank you Richtheur!
Ah, very good, another talented person has been MOTIVATED. To the point where he has played violin solo. Now this... THIS IS POWER.
THAT VIOLIN SOUNDS LIKE A wITCHER SONG
The things you teach and how you describe the music actually fits unbelievably well with Vergil's character, like that angel part you mentioned. Yes he's a devil but he's movement and attacks are somewhat elegant which contrasts Dante's song which is full demon like intensity and brutish.
Sir you just earned a sub with that sick violin in addition,I loved it such a nice play it was, thank you for clearing the rust in my ears
Thank you!
I'd love to see a reaction to some of the tracks from Final Fantasy 14.
Footfalls, Shadowbringers, Ultima Thule, Metal: Brute Justice Mode, What Angel Wakes Me are all great candidates for reactions.
I haven't listened to this song in a long while and it STILL raises the hairs on my arms! So good! 😎👍
I was just listening to a mashup between DoG OST and Jetstream Sam's when I received the notification, such an amazing one
I know Vergil music wasn’t playing in the final boss fight but …his title in dmc5 is “the alpha and the omega”
Bury the Light is simply one of the best pieces of music from a video game. It really just hits the soul, that’s the best way I can describe it.
would love a whole violin part for this, if your up to it that is! AMAZING VIDEO!!!!!!
the tears that fell when the electric violin came on. WOW. thats a whole nother layer i never could've expected. truly awestruck
Omg I just discovered you today and let me just say I apologize for just now discovering you because you are amazing man the way you break it down into depth for new listeners is just mesmerizing. You sir just earned a subscriber and I can’t wait to listen to new taste of music from you keep it up. Also you killed it at the end👌🏿
P.s. I just started playing DMC today like I watched all the gameplay but never got the chance to play it but now I do same as metal gear solid and let me just say it just brings me a trip down memory lane the feeling is astonishing
Thank you! Welcome aboard!
I just found this channel and it's 'criminal' that there's not more to that violin accompaniment. I would adore a full video of it.
За Motivation и Power стреляю в упор! Спасибо за реакцию , от OST DMC всегда веет крутостью и пафасом😎
Наконец нашла наших!
As a former band-nerd, I appreciate your sense of "feel" for the hard-hitting parts I thank you for this breakdown.
Thank you for your support!
GOD DAMN, that addition to the song at 18:33 was PERFECT, is there a way to listen to the whole one?!
Thanks also to Casey Edwards..who made me witness this masterpiece in my life time.
fun fact:
if you play modded terraria, you probably know the mod called “the stats above”
the strongest weapon you can get is called “bury the light”
(it is so strong that in the calamity mod you need auric bars to craft it)
"Now I'm a little motivated." to be able to bury the light
We can all always use more Touhou music!
This vid alone has over 100 million views. I was there for the celebration and shadow hunter is an amazing guy. And has class of music
Ever since DMC5 released Vergil as a playable character, this song has been such a freaking banger every single time, even mentioning Vergil automatically plays this song plus
The song encapsulates Vergil'a childhood and his pursue of power in exchange of abandoning his humanity in hopes of getting it since deep inside he's afraid of getting hurt or someone getting hurt and because of him, he now is on a quest to search for power that can truly surpass Sparda (Vergil's father) and be able to stand up against the challenges before him, may it be demons, angels or even Dante (his twin brother)
One thing's for sure, the song itself is an empowering feeling yet hiding a sad, lonely secret that only Vergil keeps inside
Final fantasy 14 is always a great choice for music. Scream, flow, sunrise, close in the distance, to the edge. All great songs.
13:13 "Bury the Light deep-"
Omg that violin take had me in tears. Absolutely beautiful.
I'm more surprised that you haven't listened to this yet, it's so popular and iconic
HELL YEAH. I was head bopping along with you and your enthusiasm was infectious. Thank you for making my day groovy :D
Rock on!
BERRY DELIGHT!
I cannot imagine what the singer's neighbours must have thought when he was absolutely screaming those lyrics
Casey Edwards is phenomenal! The fact that he came up with something like this as well as Devil Trigger are amazing! Glad you enjoyed it!
Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go find my MOTIVATION again
Great video! I love this song. Drums were not programmed btw.
Even better.
3:18 the most iconic line
I love your commentary you put in your videos, man. Its entertaining and educational too. Everytime I watch your videos, I learn more about the art of video game music. Also, if you havent checked out the Monster Hunter: World OST yet, you should give it a listen and start with Proof of a Hero. Love your videos, man.
