Don’t look for any signs. There aren’t any. Many recruiters and managers are really good talking to people. They can make you feel at ease, confident and engaged in the interview. You may think things are going to go good because of this. Don’t fall for it. You don’t have the job until you have a written offer.

    • @BenTalksTalent

While that is true about an offer. I do think there are signs. I’ve been in recruitment for 13 years, there are definitely signs of you look for them. It doesn’t mean you “have it in the bag” though.

I remember being asked to do a job interview, but on the morning of the interview, I got told that I didn't need to come in, because they found the "perfect candidate".
I was annoyed (I didn't show my anger on the phone).
How do they know they have the "perfect" candidate? They didn't interview everyone, so they may find someone even better. No-one is perfect.
I remember hoping that this "perfect" candidate turns out to be a disaster, shows up late constantly, shows a different side from the interview, and eventually gets fired. And if this company called me up again, I would say "No" to spite them, and think that they got what they deserved.
I think you can only know the best candidate when you have all interviews.

Hey Ben! Big fan of your channel! I wanted to get your opinion and feedback on 2 scenarios I am currently facing right now.
Scenario 1: I already had 2 interviews both with recruiter and Hiring Manager of a well known bank last June 9, 2023. They already gave me pre employment requirements checklist and said they would be conducting an evaluation check and will be scheduling a final interview with business unit manager. A whole month has passed and I haven’t heard back from them since. What went wrong? 😭😭😭
Scenario 2: I had an interview with Hiring Manager of a well known property developer last June 29, 2023. I observed both positive & negative signals from the interviewer. The interview was long (1 hr & 15mins) but she kept on checking her phone as I was trying to answer questions. As we reached the end of the interview, she asked me “Do you have other pending applications elsewhere?” and “Can I conduct a background check on your CV?”. The Hiring Manager told me to coordinate with recruiter about the next steps and status of my application. It’s been a week and I haven’t heard back from them regarding my background check. How long is the background check process? I am starting to feel anxious whether or not they would extend an offer to me.
    I need help Ben ☺️☺️☺️

thank you for this! I actually just had my first ever design panel interview as a new grad yesterday. Tbh I don't know whether i did well cuz there were a bit mixed signals(or maybe it was just me feeling too nervous💦 and couldn't tell) When I was sharing my ideas, the employer did occasionally take turns to ask me qs or give me feedback and comments like "i agreed with what you are saying" or having positive feedback on the design challenge I did for the panel. But idk😂 their expressions just looked a bit scary. At one point, I was seriously not feeling confident when i was asking them for more context on a qs they asked. The lady was telling me there's no right or wrong answer. I think this is a strange experience 😥😅

Had an interview for a graduate scheme(UK) by 2 managers and I felt like it went superbly. They asked admin questions like right to work, if I drive, when can I start and benefits etc and they've told me that they've told me I'll hear back after all the interviews have concluded in about 2 weeks. Told me to contact them via email if I had any questions in the meantime and said 'that was great' at the end. Are those ctual good signs or are they most likely just being polite? Causing me a lot of overthinking as it's for a massive company 😅

Hey Ben, this is a great video!
However, I would like to address the “Close the interview strategy” part. What if the interviewer has already made a decision that you’re not the right fit, so they’re not gonna bother answering to that question you asked anyway. You did mention that if the interviewer says “No, there isn’t anything else I’d like to add or ask about your application”, it’s a good sign. I’m asking in context of “looking for signs if the recruiter is interested in you”. Curious to know your take on that :)
    Hope I made sense lol
Great work! Great videos. Thank you.

Any thoughts on this situation.. I went through 3 rounds of interviews with an outsourced recruiter. After 3rd and final interview the outsourced recruiter let me know my recruiter was changing to a internal recruiter. The internal recruiter reached out and said she'd be in touch with the next steps. Is this a sign I maybe got the job or no?

I think it’s likely unrelated to you. Sometimes companies go through hiring process changes and it sounds like that’s what’s going on. But the fact they are moving forward does seem good Caleah!

I had these great signs in the interview but last time I had a follow-up I was told to give them about 1 or 2 weeks due to interviewing and then they will have an update on potiential nect steps. Also adding the job on their website is now taking down after being up for only a week. I have no clue on what to think.

As of watching five of these videos I can say I'm still completely unsure if I've got the job. Mentioned that they are super short staffed, and they'd like me in 2 different positions based on my experience. Other then that almost no real feedback other then mmhmms, and when asked I got a generic next steps will be I speak to my manager and he will contact you. So I THINK they want to hire me, but out of necessity rather then my interview lmfao.

he showed hiis consideration but then we talked about more details and i was honest about it .. there is a mission in the position that needs a dutie that i didn't do usally in my work experience so he said " i thought that you can do this too ..but it s not ! and in this role we need this dutie essencially" .. Honestly i think those doing the interview should be more clear as literally the majority of people taking the interview do not know what the interviewer means and just give them a answer they are not looking for thus get eliminated even if they were the best candidate for the job and was a culture fit
