@@DonGeorgevich I feel the same way too. Why can't they start the interview with "we have someone in mind but we want to see if there is someone better". I can easily walk away at that point without any hurt feelings.
Hell no, they can have 6 people and I’ll still walk on and try. Had my technical interview yesterday and I don’t think I’m going to get it, but I’m happy I did it, I learned so much
@Amy Xoxo They gave you a chance to beat out a different candidate. View it as an opportunity and be thankful. Start your own business, if you don't like it.
1. Age 2. Attractiveness 3. Race 4. Sex and sexual orientation. 5. They do not want to believe who you are through resume, and interview. 6. Have someone already for this position. 7. Overqualified. 8. Non native to English language. 9. Too highly motivated for a job, and company. Getting a job is matter of luck nowadays.
@T ITO If you keep thinking about this you are bound to attract rejections.. Victim mentality. In my city there are plenty of marginal diverse "different" people, half of them do not even speak English properly, and they get hired with no problem, if they have confidence and respect for themselves and others. I got my first job as a new immigrant just literally walking in and making a good first impression, building rapport with the desk person. They called me next day and insisted to come in..i wasn't even sure i wanted it but i stayed with them.. Made good money.. Lol.. 11years later i quit, so now i am creating a new better career.. And guess what.. I am bound to get the job. My attitude is attracting it.
God I wish I could UPVOTE this a thousand times! You don't know how many times I've applied for jobs and already first impressions are VERY DIFFICULT to change or erase! They got their pre-concieved assumptions and even PUT YOU in BOXES that you don't want to be in! It's very depressing and frustrating, not to mention makes me angry because even though there are LAWS in place not to discriminate, there's always WAYS around them and it will be YOUR word against theirs! I really wish my parents were successful business people but I wasn't "lucky" in that sense as they were mostly employees who kissed their bosses asses during the 70's, 80's 90's and so on! They are now mostly retired but damn was it EASIER and less competitive back then!
Everyone has to like you. That's about it. If you got the interview you were good enough to call in. I just got a job after trying to get jobs with organizations that I ultimately did not want to work for. I don't prepare, I just talk to them like real people. They can take or leave me because I know my worth. If the employer is rude during the hiring process or does not contact you with a respectful rejection, bullet dodged. In the end you wind up where you are meant to be, so it is best not to go where you are not meant to be.
Unfortunately this is also how you also end up with people who on their resume are good for the job, but virtually incompetent. They are "likable" but not not necessarily the best fit. It's not always the case. Fortunately if the interview process is done properly they will hire the qualified, yet likable, person. You can be the perfect fit for the job and if the employer doesn't like your vibe or there is no chemistry between you, that alone can eliminate you. You can interview with 4 people for the same position and it can just take 1 person not liking you to give you a "Thanks, but no thanks" email or letter.
This is the best advice anyone can give. Be yourself because not everyone is going to like you. Know your own worth and move on. The person that gets you is going to be the lucky one. Once I got past all of the bullshit of how to act I began getting offers.
KendraEMoyer I agree I’ve been interviewing for three months and I have to agree "bullet dodged"... I remember wanting this particular job so badly made it to the third round of interviews and the CEO was extremely rude, I was heartbroken. Nevertheless I will not give up!
@@AngeloR674 Beg to differ. I've prepared and over prepared for the interview and in the end you don't get the job because you weren't pretty enough, young enough, or thin enough, or fat enough. Too short, your hair was too long ad nauseum. You only get the job if they like you, End of story.
This is sadly true every nerd, bookworm, and intellectual I know has less documented success in this domain then every person I know not part of any of the above referenced subcultures. This probably has to do at least in some part with word choice nerds, bookworms, and intellectuals often have much more extensive vocabularies then any one outside of these subcultures.
It has been proven before that all things being equal , employers will choose a more attractive employee over a lesser attractive one. Along side this, there are laws protecting against racial bias hiring however, employers do get to nitpick against their racial bias and find other reasons not to hire a specific race. Just because there are laws doesn’t mean employers fully abide by them. America sucks .
OK, I disagree with reason #1. They did NOT get the job because they were more qualified. They got the job because they played the interview game better. And then they went on to suck at the job.
Agreed. I had two interviews in 1 week with same company & had more qualifications than they were looking for. But the 2nd interview was bust for me; they didn’t even let me ask questions. Never had a process like that!
You do need to be qualified and also be able to interview well to sell yourself to the employer. I would say too, remember people hire people that (1) remind them of themselves, (2) they can see themselves enjoying being around in the office (3) see skills in the person that they/their team needs. Skills can be taught, however behaviors and personality cannot be taught/easily changed.
It blows my mind how many hoops these companies make people jump through to get jobs that are like lower middle class paying these days. They keep raising the standards, education level, and ridiculous questions you have to answer. Its just a corny performance these days. You can thank the rise of HR for that. Plus, there are times you may even nail the interview but dont get it because they go with an internal candidate but still have to say they interviewed so many people...and put on the dog and pony show even though you never really had a chance in the first place.
I don't get that. Why waste someone's time like that?! That's mean! Just hire from the inside! Or promote the person! Honestly! Why do they have to make it so hard?! Exactly!
That is because there are more people than jobs. It puts them in a position where they can afford to ask a little more. Whether they always will get is another matter. Higher qualified people usually are more expensive and will have more opportunities. They have an edge on the rest. Most companies are looking for people who will be the most benefitial short and long run. This rise of HR you speak of is nonsense. They like the rest are hired to do their job. If they don't deliver they will have to answer for it. In the end companies need competent and skilled people.
How can you be sure you had nailed the job interview? Just because a conversation went well doesn't mean they thought you were qualified enough. Have you asked them what reason they had not to hire you? Usually they will tell you if you specifically ask for it. If it is something skill based you could use that to your advantage in a next interview.
From the start the hiring manager was being rude so when I got an email saying I was denied I wasn’t even surprised her energy was really cocky and snobby I’m bubbly and happy
Hi Don, I just had an interview yesterday that I felt went beyond well. In 24 hours they said I’m no longer considered. The thought of “why not me?” has been bugging me and I admit that I’m really saddened by it. Thank you for this video- it was a nice pep talk and brought insight. Gives me a little more confidence on getting better.
Alot of jobs already have someone picked out for a position they just have to interview others. If it went well then im sure they will pass along but yea not the reason you went to the interview. At least you did great and got some experience interviewing
fanofmanythings10 Same thing happened to me, they even said we will call you Monday to meet with the attorney and they never did. I even sent a thank you follow up email for the interview and they never answered. It has been a week and nothing. I guess I didn't get it. They are so rude not to answer my e-mail and let me know. So, I guess I don't want to work there if the are that rude. Thank you for the info Don. I appreciate your videos very much.
I just had a phone interview and it went very bad and I feel very low . I am an international sttudent in Ohio ,I applied for a job for which I am a perfect match in terms of hard skills but I was not ery confident because its an interview . I feel very low but I am not done.I will keep aplying and working hard and will let you know when I get an offer.Thank you for video. p.s. when I was done with phone interview ,I was almost crying and totally demovtivated .Hit like if you failed your first job interview
@@kcabenes8594 Rachel, what a coincidence sweetheart. I just got an offer today. Thank you Rachel for your positive energy . You are a beautiful soul. BTW , how have your life been?
Same. As a non native english speaker is even harder. I thought the interview went well. He said he is gonna schedule a second interview for me within a week with the general manager. I asked if it was gonna be email or phone, he said he is gonna call me and he even gave me his name. Earlier today I got an email rejecting me. I feel down honestly, but let's move on.
Don, you always do so great breaking down the situation. It's the worst feeling when you're rejected after an interview that you thought went well. Thanks for sharing this.
I had an interview yesterday and got the cal today that I didn’t get the job because It seemed like i wasn’t interested and i was too shy and i can’t stop crying I actually thought I did good at one point in the interview I got really nervous but got back together quick, and I just keep thinking negative about myself my confidence is completely down I feel like I never want to go thru this again 😓
That's nonsense. They're interviewing because they have a position to fill, just you happened to not impress the interviewer(s). Looking to exclude someone is just ridiculous.
@@sucram1015 Are you kidding?! Latinos are the MOST likely to get jobs these days! That race (the Mexican race) has been on the rise in popularity especially considering they are having open borders EVERYWHERE in the south now!
@@rosiegbo7838 It doesn't matter. Somebody ALLOWED them to climb the corporate ladder and in turn they hired others of their same race/nationality on board! They opened the bordered up and allowed their people to INFEST (and BREED) in America and that is why you see all these angry white people taking revenge!
The process took over a month, I went to 3 interviews for the same company and told me there would be 1 final interview, before my final interview, I got rejected. I feel so doomed.
likewise, it's almost a 2 months process. online job hunting is a long process. Schedules for interviews keep changing, getting canceled. And on that final interview, you've been cut short of less than 10 mins the interview, the interviewer doesn't like me at all hahaha.. #3 turned off. 😂 bad sign that is real. Move on.
YEP , I WORKED WITH QUITE A FEW GRADUATE TYPES ETC THAT PROBABLY HAD ALL THE " IN " CHAT FOR THE INTERVIEW, BUT WERE ACTUALLY THICK AS A WHALE OMLETTE WHEN IT COME TO THE JOB.
Jobs are very much like relationships, we invest our time and emotional energy in them hoping that the employer will reciprocate, and when they don't, it does hurt.
It is a huge factor. Huge. I know that I will not find a traditional, corporate job at my age, 65. I'm trying to head in a new direction, but it is tough. Lots of jobs, yes. But also lots of competition, especially higher paying ones.
I interviewed for Eli Lilly, as medical reviewer, it went so well but the next day they sent a mail that They rejected me. I went neurotic, I was upset, I cried.. but that’s okay, I learnt from this interview. And one day I’ll get into a company far greater and to a very top position. I won’t give up and I’ll keep learning and changing myself no matter what happens. I won’t stop being an improved version of myself. They might have rejected me but they’ll never kill my spirit. I will be number one
I interviewed at Eli Lilly time ago 😇 rejected as well after an “apparently” great interview . They went for internal candidate and I was actually lucky they did , since now I have a job in a company I wanted to work for long time
Thank you for bringing up the fact that job seekers spend so much time and energy and in just one job interview and then after the process it’s done, they don’t even get a thank you for tour time! It’s not like companies own an explanation but just appreciation. At least that’s what I think…
I had 2 interviewers not get back to me in the last month: the first interviewer said that he would email me by the next week whether OR whether not I got the job, it is now 3 weeks later and I have not heard back from him. the second interviewer said he had to reach out to a former employer and get back to me on Monday, it is now a week later and I messaged him asking for an update a couple days ago and no response... this is starting to make me unmotivated. If we're obligated to not ghost employers then they should have the same respect to not ghost us.
I just had an interview today , I don’t think I got the job. I was really depressed until I saw this video... keep on going to interviews and learn from your mistakes! Thank you !
I approach job interviews like casting calls for acting. Every casting Director is going to have individual needs and you could never tailor what you’re supposed to do with each character that you audition for. It has to be the right fit and it doesn’t matter how much acting training you have or how talented you are:)
"God will bless those who are rejected right in front of people who rejected!" All success stories have 1000s of rejection... Still they didn't loose hope n moved on..... Moving on and trying is quintessential in life but one needs God to support, to wipe tears n encourage as well...!! Be positive ... Somewhere your dreams are fructifying for a better n higher self but it is invisible right now!!
Reason #6, “job already set aside for some one” (13:44). This is unfair. I had one like that. I wasted so much time preparing myself, then an insider told me exactly this story of yours. I was so devastated. I let it go, anyway. But this is unfair. That policy must change.
I hate that. Had an interview and called me less than 3 hours later telling me that I didn't get it. The crazy thing is you have no idea with the interview if you're seriously being considered or if they already have someone in mind.
This happened to me; I was literally called in for an interview and I never even applied for the role. I only expressed through the grapevine that I was interested. Sigh ended up being a waste of my time.
Interview today and did't get the job. Crazy because I told myself that I did't want to work in the industry anymore but I was applying because it's familiar with me. To anyone feeling discourage, what's for you is for you and I'm satisfied with their decision. I'm over being at a company that expects me to spend 14 hours a day and not call off not 1 time. The universe has something for me and anybody else going through jobs turning them down. Good luck to Everyone!!!
Good stuff. Have hired quite a few people. One thing to add is if a candidate is really good, knowing what's in it for them is super-helpful. If they want permanent work vs freelance, work in this area, shorter commute, really like doing x. All add to potential staff retention which says to the interviewer, "yay, not doing this again soon".
Recently interviewed for a General Manager position and did not get it, then a few weeks later was asked to interview for a Co-Manager position (the same company). Sometimes just have to go through all the gears to excel.
I had a job interview and I thought I had done really well and it seemed like the employer thought so as well, she even told me to start training the next week. I had emailed them my schedule and no response for a week. I had to message them twice in order to get them to tell me that they had chosen another candidate. It sucks that they had made me feel like I was going to be hired only to be told a week later of silence that I wasn’t it. It was a good learning experience though :)
It sounds like there's a good chance they were waiting for another candidate to accept an offer before letting you know you weren't successful. It sounds like they didn't want to lose you if things didn't work out with the other candidate. It sucks being left hanging though!
A month after my first interview as a development engineer, the hiring manager called me and said they had offered the job to an internal candidate. So in this case they admitted they had the job filled from the beginming !
Thank you so much I had an interview today and and I got the job I been watching you’re videos to prepare myself and for entertainment this help me so much!! Thank you.
I know it sounds really just childish but i recently had 3 job interview in a retail food places (maccass, kfc, and Boost juice) and they all rejected me 😭😭 I prepared my interview for 9hrs straight (not joking) and i got the email just now i failed... all of them... i couldnt stop crying 😭 its hard to handle it when all of my peers gets job in one go but i cant it... hurts... my heart
@Supriti Sharma Wow you are right in Texas they hire tall or just above average young skinny guys who are clean shaven between 5'11 and 6'3 usually never over 180 pounds.
I sooooooo appreciate your comment about how it is "rude" how prospective employers just drop you like a bad habit once they decide to go with someone else, even if you ask for feedback. Yes, I am going through a VERY difficult, psychologically and emotionally taxing search for a high school social studies teaching position in Chicagoland. At least in a general sense, I am as qualified as anyone out there relative to my level of experience in the field and whoever does eventually hire me is going to get one of THE best high school social studies teachers in the world and nothing less. But for now, good God, I just need to get a frickin' interview and for the most part, the process feels very cold, detached, and just plain discouraging. But I WILL get through this and land my dream job because teaching is my life's purpose and that's just the way it is. And when I do get there, I VOW to NEVER forget what this process is like and always do anything and everything I can to empower those going through this struggle.
Brandon Zurvale, I get the impression that you are a little desperate. If that is the case, it probably comes across in the interview and that could be a turn off. I know you posted your comment 9 months ago and I hope you found the job you were looking for. If you haven’t, try a different approach. From my experience, when I went to an interview for a job I was not that excited about, I was very relaxed, talked to the interviewer like I would talk to a colleague and more often than not, I was offered the job. The key is to just be yourself. Eventually you will find the right fit.
@@Dennis0824 I hear what you're saying and it's a fair point to raise but no, I made sure that never happened (i.e. I do my venting on RUclips, haha!, and am always all business at interviews, etc.). And to be honest with you, even a comment like the above is very out of character for me now that I look at it a year later but I'm going to leave it up anyway so others going through a similar situation know they're not the only ones. And BTW, while I haven't landed THE job yet, I did take a baby step forward recently with a long-term subbing position in a nice district. We'll see what happens. Cheers!
@BUCK LANE Thanks for the feedback. I appreciate it. As I mentioned in another reply above, while I still haven't landed THE job, I recently took a baby step forward by landing a long-term subbing position in a nice district. Been here two weeks, so far, so good, and we'll see what happens. Cheers!
First of all Thank you for all the good videos! I normally never write reviews, but wanted to let you know that I watch your videos even though I have a great job with the city of NY. Your advices are great! It's good to know things to develop knowledge. Best of the best to you and your family!!
In the case of number six, I'd say that it could be seen as an opportunity to make ourselves be seen although we are not going to be given the job. I personally had this experience. I applied for a job which was already set aside for someone inside that large company. I put so much effort in that interview and it went so well that they finally hired me, not for the post I was applying to (it was already set aside) but for an entry level position. They said "we were so delighted with your interview that we want to give you this related job". I accepted it and eventually got the intended job. The thing is, if it hadn't been for that interview, I wouldn't have been known by them and wouldn't have gotten the job.
Your videos have helped me immensely. I have gotten more information from you than any other person on here. I wanted to thank you for the quality channel!
I have done 2 interviews Blue collar jobs. The first I went in and winged it. I left feeling what I could do better. Then I saw your videos and I watched a few of them and when I went to a second job interview with a much better Job. I used what I learned from your Videos. I left the interview feeling Great about my Interview I didn't Get the job but I wasn't bummed out I looked for something that I wanted to do. I have a 3rd job interview tomorrow morning. I'm going in early and prep myself before I go in and again use what I learned. I hope I get in with this Company I believe they will help me grow and I will help them. If I don't get it I still feel your videos are helping me find a great job by teaching me how to go in with convenience.
You are truly entertaining and informing. Thank you for your candid honesty. You made me guffaw and laugh out loud and you're great. Thank you for sharing!
Why don't employers provide feedback? There should be a service that acts as a go-between and lets applicants know the reasons for being rejected. I went through three interviews including a grueling two hour video interview with four people only to later receive a terse rejection email. I do wish I could know what I did wrong.
Alexander_the_Goat , you should not assume you did anything wrong. They probably picked someone else, who in their subjective opinion, was better suited for the position.
For millions of people who failed the job interviews out there, remember that it's not the end of your life whatsoever! By now, I failed 3 different job interviews this 2022 already, but I am still fine as always, you know. The reason I failed is because I know I do deserve more!
Today I got the job! In the past 4 months I have applied for more than 100 jobs. I’ve been to 5 prescreenings on Cam, 16 first interviews and 3 second interviews. in second interviews, you meet the senior executives who grill you. You get behavioural questions with almost endless follow up questions and have to be ready with a handful of examples
For the record i just wanted to hear what you had to say!...A lot of factors go into it! The personality and attitude of the interviewers! Sometimes just there bad attitudes! and negative energy have a lot do with it!
Well, guess I'll just stay where I am and die, which is what's happening. I can't do a thing about experience I don't have. The only thing I can do is continue to try to sell the experience I do have and my potential to add to the solid base I have. Honestly, I have to stop watching these videos. They just make me feel hopeless.
Learn to BS. You just have to have a positive and can-do attitude and tie everything from your prior experiences to the job requirements on the posting. Write down stories (STAR) and practice them. You got this. I believe in you, you should believe in yourself!
I failed two job interviews at the same company this week. It sucks, but I’m going to continue my search. They were my first two interviews in a while.
Thank you so much for this great advice and info Don:) The interview processes for my position require 3 rd rounds of interviews. i interviewed 5 different companies, meaning total 15 interviews. However i always fails the last round of interviews. Its sooooo frustrating and depressing 😭I spent so many days for these long interview processes for nothing.. Again much appreciated for sharing this video🌷it cheers me up😁
Last success interview for me. I spelled the manager's name wrong and did not take water from them. Was very nervous and tired! Two days later I received the offer letter :)
I think sometimes it is also very subjective. I worked with a manager who chose someone with NO experience over someone who HAD experience simply because this manager thought the one WITHOUT experience was a nicer person and went on to justify at the deliberation that this candidate seem eager and willing to learn and therefore this compensates the lack or absence of....in this person‘s opinion. This manager is often vocal about disliking candidates who are too knowledgeable because apparently this mgr did not like to lose the job to someone who is better.
So brutal but honest. Sometimes there is already someone in mind! What if we we’re invited to the second interview and didn’t get the job? Can it still be the case?
They already have someone in mind, but they "must" post the interview, is super true. My company does it for seemingly no reason. They hired someone who was training with their HR manager for a year part time, and still had to post it publicly to be fair, but there was no doubt who was getting the job lol.
I remember a time when if you got the call you were hired. Now everything is ass backwards and getting worse. The pink Unicorn is alive and well! Can only hope these companies continue to struggle until the light comes on in their proverbial empty skulls.
Hello Don, I interviewed for a position, all great etc., you are wonderful candidate blah blah. Heard nothing back. I rang them and was told an internal promotion got the job. I said, "What about the consequential vacancy then." And was told, "No, you would be too 'high powered' for that job." So what's a person to do? A kick in (the wherever) hurts no matter where it lands. We just have to accept that it's probably the best that you (I) missed out. Still, it's hard to take when you want to put (better) food on your table for you and your family.
A BS Staffing company will hire you through UPS where you can work with tatted up convicts and be overqualified. It's really sad the way our country is people often times NEVER get what they deserve. I am one of the very many unlucky ones.
Yep. I can't articulate myself on the fly. It's really hard and so un natural for me. I've decided to be myself for the next interview. no script and no preparation because the more I prepare the more I get lost.
I just went through multi round interviews with 5 different companies within the last 3 weeks. Some I was overqualified for. Not one of them panned out and I am so extremely frustrated. I must be missing something.
Yea thank you I just had an interview and she was nice she actually said expect a call like by a certain time like this afternoon at 3 and never herd from them and I had some just not even give u interviews they just blow you off but I do know never call them cuz your going to end up hearing something you don't want to here after they act nice was of time thanks for this it helped me put alote
I recently went to an interview that made me wait 45 minutes to constantly being interrupted by the staff at the company. I don’t know why I didn’t walk out knowing that they didn’t appreciate my time.
Don, this happened precisely to me! #2. How would I know this? The company used my resume and paraphrased almost precisely what they asked for in a potential candidate. Know how do I know this? They paraphrased virtually to the letter what I had on my resume! A few days later on the same site, this company had posted a job position and its requirements for that position. I asked an IBM guy friend of mine what he thought of what transpired. (he started there in the '80s and highly intelligent in the IT world and with his own successful company) And he looked it over and said Melanie you are correct this did happen! The response from my interviewer (asked back 2 times here) and he said," He said you need a corporate environment, this environment would be too rough for you." And I have been told I have to look less attractive! I have a few profoundly beautiful women, and they have told me this, " Melanie, you have to look like a librarian. I am in sales, I would think this would only be a plus! Please understand, I am a humble person, I am only describing reality. This is what 4 other attractive, personal friends of mine and I also encountered when they were applying for jobs. Another example, a wife and husband team were hiring, I have extensive experience, ect....you can figure out why I wasn['t hired! Reality is a little too much now that I am back looking for work!
@@Luckshara-Lucky i wish i could tell you. I've tried so hard to get in a company, it's better when your career plan lined with the job you're applying. as for me i'm applying for a bank teller position, but my major is nursing, but my previous experience matched with the position, and i have the skills required.🤷♀️ i've done a lot of research, and give my best. I still didn't get hired.
@ Andy Rojas - consider yourself lucky you didn't get a callback. By you not receiving a call back or written acknowledgment in response to your application says a lot about the restaurant's management team. Never undersell yourself; always find value in you. Never willingly give someone the time and attention they're unwilling to give you in return. My suggestion would be to list in columns, employers you would like to work for. Then under each column, note the company's reviews and a summary of info in its business portfolio if available on-line; why you would like to work for the company; benefits and disadvantages in working for the company; what if hired would make you an irreplaceable asset to the company; what valuable skills will you acquire in the position of interest; what annual salary range are you willing to except for a position factoring in weekly or biweekly payroll deductions, and will this be enough to meet your monthly financial needs and savings goal? Comparing columns with the answers to these questions should answer the question of what employing company may be right for you. If you really want to be a member of the Chic-fil-A, team, instead of becoming a counter employee, dream bigger and look into franchise opportunities in the company and what skill sets you'll need to operate your own Chic-fil-A restaurant business. Why be an employee when you have opportunities to become an employer. The company offers an extensive, multi week training-program prior to taking over operations of a franchised Chic-fil-A restaurant business. Dream big and put a plan in place with specific deadline goals. And remember, you must first see yourself as a valuable asset and just as important if not more important as those whom you come in contact with. Where one door closes another one is bound to open which may be the right opportunity meant for you.
I had to fly 2000km to another City for an interview because they refused to do the interview online. It cost me a lot of money and time and energy and time away from my family. I was well prepared and had a great interview. They saw my commitment. But two weeks later I saw on their FB page that they appointed someone internally.
I have to say that I’m employed and I’m not seeking. I do watch still because once your ebook, I think RUclips wasn’t widespread as now ( long ago) changed my life completely. I use to suck at interviews and you changed that to me. I do watch for entertainment and to keep sharp because you never know.
@13:40 I had an interview yesterday for a company I applied for 3 times in the 3 different depts. I’d wait a week and re apply, did this for a month. I then abruptly got a phone call from the interview manager who had told me to do a phone interview the next day, less than 24 hours, he said the interview would go quick and be no longer than 20 mins as he is going to be interviewing other candidates too. Based on his demeanor I knew this was a “pity interview” and that they already had made up there minds. // I do the interview, try to explain my duties and the interviewer seems annoyed and tries to rush me multiple times and interrupt me. I stretched out the interview for 35 mins trying to engage with them, but they didn’t seem interested at all. I was dead on arrival and wasted valuable time trying to set this job up.
I interviewed recently and the interviewer asked me 2 questions... first was 'if they talked to my family and friends whats one word they use to describe me?'.. now the second question was very weird.. they asked me 'If we talked to your enemies what would they say about you?'... how would you answer that?
Hi Don, I had more than perfect interview from all possible aspect but still got a rejection mail today. It was 4th round of the interview, I went extra mile to present the case given to me. Now, I’m feeling devastated and don’t know how to react and how exactly i should energies myself and work on things again.
Hi Don, I looked all your videos. It was very helpful for me. I had 5 jobs interviews with a huge company. My profile fit 100% for the job description and requirements. But I have that filing that they don't hire me. Thank you very much for your professional and inspiring videos! I have learned a lot from you!
If you already have a candidate in mind, you should not waste your time or my time interviewing me.
why?
@@DonGeorgevich I feel the same way too. Why can't they start the interview with "we have someone in mind but we want to see if there is someone better". I can easily walk away at that point without any hurt feelings.
Hell no, they can have 6 people and I’ll still walk on and try. Had my technical interview yesterday and I don’t think I’m going to get it, but I’m happy I did it, I learned so much

1. Age
2. Attractiveness
3. Race
4. Sex and sexual orientation.
5. They do not want to believe who you are through resume, and interview.
6. Have someone already for this position.
7. Overqualified.
8. Non native to English language.
9. Too highly motivated for a job, and company.
Getting a job is matter of luck nowadays.
Perhaps for you this victim mentality manifests in your answers and the interviewer picks up on it.
I'm probably 1 that's a non native english speaker. I speak and understand really well, just not a native speaker.
@@timshow781 exactly right!!! (see my answer to the post above)
It's sad how many years we go to school just to have to face another demon after graduating..the job search
the job search is the ultimate playing field.
I know, right? You spend years proving yourself in school, and then you have to prove yourself all over again.
And then when you get hired, you still have to prove yourself until you get what you want, promotion, salary increase, trust from coemployee, etc..
Never ending:( its insane! And my anxiety is killing me:(
So true
KendraEMoyer thats why u didnt get the job! You need to prepare!
@@AngeloR674 Beg to differ. I've prepared and over prepared for the interview and in the end you don't get the job because you weren't pretty enough, young enough, or thin enough, or fat enough. Too short, your hair was too long ad nauseum. You only get the job if they like you, End of story.
Another UNSPOKEN REASON: You arent of the right social clique to join
That's tough...
Truth
I hate companies interviewing outside candidates when they already have someone inside.
OK, I disagree with reason #1. They did NOT get the job because they were more qualified. They got the job because they played the interview game better. And then they went on to suck at the job.
rwingender this!
Agree with this. Interviewing is also a game of who can be the most charming. I'm horrible at being charming and selling myself. I hate interviews!!
I had an employer telling me this. They may wow me during the interview, but they sucked on the job.
This has happened to me.
Absolutely SPOT ON.
Never go to an interview with the false sense of confidence that you are going to get the job... You are only going to be upset when you don’t get it.

I had 2 interviewers not get back to me in the last month:
the first interviewer said that he would email me by the next week whether OR whether not I got the job, it is now 3 weeks later and I have not heard back from him.
the second interviewer said he had to reach out to a former employer and get back to me on Monday, it is now a week later and I messaged him asking for an update a couple days ago and no response...
this is starting to make me unmotivated. If we're obligated to not ghost employers then they should have the same respect to not ghost us.

I approach job interviews like casting calls for acting. Every casting Director is going to have individual needs and you could never tailor what you’re supposed to do with each character that you audition for. It has to be the right fit and it doesn’t matter how much acting training you have or how talented you are:)
This is why we gotta learned the skill and be our own boss. Can't have your life or success based on someone's approval of you.
Thank you for being so honest. This is truly needed today. You are extremely gifted at what you do Don.
Had same situation.deep down I felt like they have reserved the vacancy for someone else
Thanks for sharing your story and best of lu
Good stuff. Have hired quite a few people. One thing to add is if a candidate is really good, knowing what's in it for them is super-helpful. If they want permanent work vs freelance, work in this area, shorter commute, really like doing x. All add to potential staff retention which says to the interviewer, "yay, not doing this again soon".
agreed.

Eventually you will find the right fit.

newsflash!
Thank you so much. This information makes so much sense. Loved the encouragement you shared!
They already have someone in mind, but they "must" post the interview, is super true. My company does it for seemingly no reason. Right as black college student in trying to do right thing and still not getting hired
💯💯
I remember a time when if you got the call you were hired. Now everything is ass backwards and getting worse. The pink Unicorn is alive and well! Can only hope these companies continue to struggle until the light comes on in their proverbial empty skulls.
Hello Don,
I interviewed for a position, all great etc., you are wonderful candidate blah blah. Heard nothing back. I rang them and was told an internal promotion got the job. I said, "What about the consequential vacancy then." And was told, "No, you would be too 'high powered' for that job."
So what's a person to do? A kick in (the wherever) hurts no matter where it lands. We just have to accept that it's probably the best that you (I) missed out. Still, it's hard to take when you want to put (better) food on your table for you and your family.
P.S. You have a wonderful channel which I have just discovered (thanks RUclips) and of course have subscribed to.
A BS Staffing company will hire you through UPS where you can work with tatted up convicts and be overqualified. It's really sad the way our country is people often times NEVER get what they deserve. I am one of the very many unlucky ones.
Thank you. You have a great wealth of ideas and advice. please keep it up
Thankyou for this video sir. I needed this today.
Yep. I can't articulate myself on the fly. It's really hard and so un natural for me. I've decided to be myself for the next interview. no script and no preparation because the more I prepare the more I get lost.
i have a speech impairment .. so this phone interview thing wont do me any favours
I just went through multi round interviews with 5 different companies within the last 3 weeks. Some I was overqualified for. Not one of them panned out and I am so extremely frustrated. I must be missing something.
Informative, thanks! I’m bummed for not getting the job but I’m hopeful.
Thanks for those tips. I feel that you were really talked to me and answered the questions in my mind why i was rejected from the interview.
They should tell us why they didnt want to hire us. So rude haha
8:45 "you're not a culture fit" -- code for discriminating.
It’s possible. You never now
It's so frustrating.
Really good video, thanks!! Hope I get my dream job this year!
Thank you.... I'm listening to this video I'm already preparing myself just in case I don't get the job thank you for your advice
I recently went to an interview that made me wait 45 minutes to constantly being interrupted by the staff at the company. I don’t know why I didn’t walk out knowing that they didn’t appreciate my time.
Been there
Don, this happened precisely to me!
I've been told number 6 was the situation once. I wasn't a good fit but I had the experience they wanted so i got an interview.
I'm so tired of interviewing, I've been watching these videos for 2 years and nothing's working!!! I want to die
Me to
Me too. I have many interviews, but no offers
same here

@@Luckshara-Lucky i wish i could tell you. I've tried so hard to get in a company, it's better when your career plan lined with the job you're applying. as for me i'm applying for a bank teller position, but my major is nursing, but my previous experience matched with the position, and i have the skills required.🤷♀️ i've done a lot of research, and give my best. I still didn't get hired.
Wow. Great video. Its refreshing to hear someone who's not talking out of their ass.
many thanks
I applied to a chick fil a like 5 or 6 times they never even call me for an interview and I keep coming there
@ Andy Rojas - consider yourself lucky you didn't get a callback.
How can I get to an interview quickly at McDonald's cause I'm 17
It's better then getting a interview a few times by them and get rejected
Had three interviews this week, it was exhausting!
I had to fly 2000km to another City for an interview because they refused to do the interview online.
It cost me a lot of money and time and energy and time away from my family.
I was well prepared and had a great interview. They saw my commitment. But two weeks later I saw on their FB page that they appointed someone internally.
It’s better to not get the job then get hired if they didn’t really like you. It’s almost like dating.
it is like dating.
I have to say that I’m employed and I’m not seeking. I do watch still because once your ebook, I think RUclips wasn’t widespread as now ( long ago) changed my life completely. I use to suck at interviews and you changed that to me. I do watch for entertainment and to keep sharp because you never know.
I'm thrilled you enjoy my videos
That’s an interesting question
Hi Don,
I had more than perfect interview from all possible aspect but still got a rejection mail today. It was 4th round of the interview, I went extra mile to present the case given to me. Now, I’m feeling devastated and don’t know how to react and how exactly i should energies myself and work on things again.
i've been there and I know your pain.
Hi Don,
I looked all your videos. It was very helpful for me. I had 5 jobs interviews with a huge company. My profile fit 100% for the job description and requirements. But I have that filing that they don't hire me. Thank you very much for your professional and inspiring videos! I have learned a lot from you!
So glad to hear that you were getting a lot of value for my videos.
Don, I can only click the thumbs up once. Thank you.
Excellent advice! Thanks a bunch!
