    I spent $84 on a new transmission and watched this video to replace it. This video made it simple!!! I did not remove my top because it wasn't necessary. It took me about 1.5 hours since my 4 year old girl had to help. She learned a lot and so did I. Thank you!!!

    Thank you for this guide! While my Hotpoint washer uses a slightly different agitator design (single unit needing multiple extensions to remove) the rest of the video was spot on! I can’t believe my 2 year old washer needed a transmission already, but this guide saved the day. Much happier to spend a couple hundred dollars on the part needed than 3x as much for a whole new washer.

    This is the vid! 👏👏
    Had a grinding washer for awhile, eventually it kept leaving clothes wet and not spinning right.
    Got the transmission, clutch, shifter, and belt on the web and took about 1.5 hours start to finish!
    Got to buy a 33mm socket too 😂

    My husband and I were able to replace the transmission successfully with this video. We bought an $88 part and saved us over $400 in buying a new washer. Please note there is a new washer that comes with the new transmission that isn't shown in this video. Interesting note - you don't have to take off the top part of the washer as shown at the end of the video. Not sure why it is there as he doesn't show that in the beginning.

      hi lanasmith1085, one question. I believe my model in the bottom is exactly like this one but the agitator is one piece not like the one shown in the video that you intruduce a screw driver to take it apart(so the agitator was 2 parts), he took out the longer part so now he got the screw at hand. was your agitatot like in the video or it was one piece?

    I'm grateful for this video, but I got a couple of tips that I learned the hard way.
    The edges of the transmission are sharp. Be careful.
    Clean any lubrication that got on the belt and pulleys.
    Good to lubricate moving parts like the plastic clutch teeth and shaft spline with lube safe for plastic. Silicone based?
    I had a hard time inserting the transmission into the bottom of the tub. I probably should have lubed the rubber part of the shaft a tiny bit. My transmission popped in suddenly while tightening the bolts. Hopefully, that rubber part wasn't damaged in the process.

    A quick note: On my washer, the 33mm socket must be deep well. I needed 2 1/2 to 3 inches of depth to clear the center shaft. Also, I could not find a deep well 33mm, so I used a 1 5/16". It was a little loose against the nut but it did the job. (Remember it's a left handed thread - turn clockwise to loosen.) I also found using an impact wrench makes removal much easier.

    Great instructional video! My washer is repaired better than from the factory. During the initial disassembly I discovered that the Bellville (convex) washer was upside-down. Green dot is supposed to be up. From the factory the green dot was down on my machine. So, the factory assembly defect may have actually caused the gear case to fail prematurely

    Thank you for this video. It was very helpful! However, I absolutely could not get the agitator off using the screwdriver in the hole method as shown in this video. I was using enough force to cause damage with no luck. I was very successful using a rubber strap wrench at the base below the part where the hole is.

      If you already have the hole located, I would place a smaller-ish flat/standard/blade or Phillips like the video described screwdriver into the hole, slightly pushing it in while rotating lower agitator section until it allows you to go further in and is difficult to go past, there is a small spot that is meant to be pierced with the tip of the driver and hold it together to make it pop out of the "locking tabs" on the bottom portion. After you pierce it push the screwdriver as far in as you can. I found it easiest to use Enertia to help out with spinning it. I would rotate the tub counterclockwise a bit and then, holding only the agitator top, twist with both hand clockwise and it will pop.

    Would I need to do this if my ge won't agitate during washing and there is oil under my washer? Please help.

    • @ThomasBeringerMichael
      @ThomasBeringerMichael Год назад

      More than likely, the agitator has a planetary style transmission. the actual agitator is moved when the clutch below pulls the clutch up and only moves that splined shaft. The problem normally would be a clutch or the clutch motor that spins partially to make it "push" the fork. But since you have "oil" on the floor, that means the seal is gone up top and it has flooded the case of the transmission and has wiped it out. I have pictures to show of what it looks like but suffice to say, if it is leaking a seal is worn and if your agitator ain't spinning, the tranny is more than likely shot.

    • @ThomasBeringerMichael
      @ThomasBeringerMichael Год назад +1

      It IS difficult to see and I actually had to use my cell phones camera to find it, but you also have to understand too, that once you remove the agitator, you will have to find a way to seal it as once you puncture through the inner portion/shell, it will allow water to come into that area and rust out or go past the seal for the bolt holding onto the lower agitator and cause it to fail much quicker.

      @@jeffwestbrook6570 Duct tape has been a perfect method to close it back up, and it can/should be done previous to attempting the reinstall. These transmissions are some of the worst products in the appliance industry. They will start leaking oil within the first year of use, sometimes even within the first 6 months.
