  • Goosegrass in a tough weed in the lawn that likes compacted soil. I am going to show you how to control goosegrass by testing 2 weed killer products on goosegrass. The first product is Dismiss NXT. It is great on goosegrass as well as sedges. The seconds product is Solitaire. I am using surfactant with each product. Both products did a pretty good job on goosegrass. I would give a slight edge to Dismiss NXT in this test. Solitaire is a great product for controlling crabgrass and wild violets. Enjoy the video!

You know what's funny, is partly due to this channel I have bought several selective herbicides like sulfentrazone, 2, 4-D, quinclorac, triclopyr, among others, and again because of this channel, 2 years ago I also started using preemergent twice a year. The last two years those herbicides have completely sat on the shelf! Jason is the best. It's not common to find guys willing to share their knowledge with outsiders, always listen up when that happens

Same. The only thing I still have to treat post emergent is the Devil's bane nutsedge.

No doubt...LOL those pre emergents will save you a bunch of headaches if you get those weeds in a preventative program vs post emergent. But these videos are a great resource when the problems arise. Thanks for another great comparison video Jason!

I use revolver and quicksilver and it’s dead as a door knob for fully mature goose grass

I have done revolver and dismiss. I wonder what’s better, dismiss or quicksilver? Dismiss NXT is a combo of dismiss and quicksilver for anyone reading this later.

I have well-developed goosegrass and crabgrass everywhere in my yard (~ 9000 sqft ), mixing with tall fescue. Some of those weeds are perhaps 10+ years old. What would be the recommended product(s) to use? Thank you~!

This year had my first bout with Goose Grass. Its awful. Its new to our neighborhood I see it in the next door Church lawn now too. Very aggressive weed. Like it says if you look it up it seems to like hard packed trodden soil the most so its in all my walkways. I am now walking in other areas. I have been manually pulling each one out with a weed tool the one that you stomp in with your foot then turn it a few times and it rips the weed out. But that is tedious. My question is are any of these weed killers safe with a dog in the yard? And wearing spike shoes to aerate the lawn worth buying? Thanks!

Jason, you probably can't due this as a lawn care specialist, but FMC also makes Spartan Charge for Ag use, not lawn labeled. It has the same ingredients at the same proportion and concentration as Dismiss NXT, only you can buy a quart of it for less than that 10oz bottle....that's what I use.

Speedzone red label at half rate. It's a 3 way with carfentrazone.

Cool season lawn guy reporting in! I made the mistake of buying some cheap top soil for leveling my lawn and it was evidently chock full'o goosegrass seed. (Pro tip: spring for the good top soil!) It took me a while to identify it but once I did, I stumbled across this video. I noticed that both of the products in this video had the active ingredient of sulfentrazone, so I ended up trying T-Zone SE which has the same active ingredient but it seems to be geared more towards cool season lawns. I had similar results as yours (largely positive) but some of the more mature plants put up a bit of a fight, so for the 2nd round of spraying I mixed some mesotrione and quinclorac with the T-Zone SE (and a splash of surfactant) and that did the trick. Other than some clumping tall fescue that I'm just going to have to dig out by hand, this combo has killed pretty much every weed I've encountered in my KBG/Fescue lawn.

@@bartfox9187 I don't recall the exact numbers off the top of my head, but it was the high end of the label rates, and it took multiple applications to get the well established goosegrass.

Metribuzin in the labeled settings. In residential pylex at 1/4oz per ac and speedzone at label rate works fairly good. Bermuda only and expect some damage. It will recover
