Testing 5 Nutsedge and Kyllinga Weed Control Options

- I am testing five nutsedge and kyllinga weed control options for the lawn. Sedges are difficult to control in the lawn. Many times, I am just trying to suppress the sedges to keep them under control under cool weather knocks them out. Kyllinga sometime can be controlled with a pre-emergent herbicide like Specticle. Nutsedge is typically controlled with post emergent products like the ones shown in the video Celero and Vexix are two relatively new sedge products that are not tested in this video. Sulfentrazone give quick burn down results on sedges but can cause a little damage to the grass, especially in hot weather. Enjoy the video and let me know if you have a go-to sedge product.

I use bought blindside from your advice Jason a few yrs ago for my fescue yard. It works great on both kallinga, spurge, nutsedge, oxalis and dog fennel. I am hoping these problem weeds for me annually plus keeping away the POA from next yr will work for my first time doing a 3rd split app of dithiopyr in fall pre emergent
Wow what a resourceful video a lot of info thanks Jason for making it learned a lot.
Thanks for watching. Glad to help
I've got plenty of yellow nutsedge that needs to be sprayed. Been too hot to tackle this summer. The day it cooled off, it rained. At least the nutsedge has also slowed its growth somewhat with the lack of rain. I need to take a day off of work to get this done. Has to be sprayed at least a couple of days after mowing so i can see it too. Going with straight sulfentrazone, no surfactant.
Great video! Wide array of chemicals. Would like to see results on some Centipede. May not be a predominant turf in your area. Definitely a more sensitive turf.
Thanks for the great content!
Sedge is beautiful. Better than spraying chemicals.
I use speed zone southern. Mostly have yellow up here. Knocks it dead.
I really like Imazaquinn, Jason. Have you ever tried that? I have seen it work even when Dismiss doesn't, and it is relatively fast with zero damage or burn. The reason Dismiss failed is that I went light on the dose to prevent burn.
Great video! Love your channel $
Thank you
The only weed that I have that keeps coming back no matter what I do. Well this and maybe what I think is doveweed. It's so hard to keep weeds away when my neighbors are basically farming the stuff.
I like monument juiced with quicksilver and it’s gone gone with MSO 🔥
I've used dozens of products for sedge, certainty has produced the most acceptable results. Is it the silver bullet? No, but acceptable enough for me and the customers. I switch back to sedgehammer every couple years to avoid resistance. I use the ag equiv of certainty called outrider for cost effectiveness. Great informative video, thank you for sharing.
*So you agree that absolutely NOTHING works to kill the nutsedge for good. It will ALWAYS come back the next year.*
I dont have experience with all of them, but I have noticed with the pro sedge and blindside I get quick burndown, and then the sedge seems to come back in a month or so...so we are getting more of a supression than control.
Thanks 👍
used celero on kylinga. expensive but devestating.
What kind of daytime temps did you have when you sprayed?
How do you clean your tank sprayer?! Ive been wanting to put tenacity down on some perennial Ryegrass, but not my bermuda, so have been thinking about just using my rounding tank, but I’m sketched out since it has roundup dedication…
Would glyphosate beat them ?
I'm a hurry, i want to get seed down and on bare ground
, i got some Q4 too ?
Celsius is my go to for all around
I like Celsius also but it typically has to be mixed with something for nutsedge. Or you can use celsius xtra
What do you think of Tenacity?
Is certainty ok to use on a Bahaigrass lawn? I have green kyllinga in the lawn. I have used dismiss with good results but not certainty. Is certainty safe for bahaigrass?
sulfentrazone in general is incredible on my two biggest problems, kyllinga and pennywort. Sulfentrazone will burn down pennywort in 24 to 36 hours and kyllinga in 48. Still working on the a strength that will not discolor surrounding turf. Might have that info by next year!
Throw in some liquid chelated iron. Best way I've combated the yellowing of herbicides. Make sure to test the mix though.
I use Sedge Ender.
I use Dismiss!
Sedges & Kyllinga-Meso, Sedgehammer, Sulfentrazone
Any 1 year update ?
Sedges don't bother me much because you can't see them well but dandelion and Virginia button weed and field matter drive me crazy. I wish they made change up in granular.
Just get a $10 pump sprayer….
Jason who or where did you get your company lawn flags ordered thru?
I order the flags from Blackburnflags.com
Hey Jason, quick question. What are you using on Torpedo Grass? (Besides Roundup lol)
Nearly impossible to kill. I don't have any recommendations
@@lawncarelife-- Thank you!
@@allanyoell1363 Torpedo grass is relentless. I spray it with round up repeatedly in bedding and it keeps returning.
I had great results killing torpedo grass with high dose of quinclorac with sticker.
Great video. I was always told to never use a sticker with Dismiss. Did you notice any increase in Bermuda turf damage with or without?
Sticker definitely Heats it up but damage is usually minimal on Bermuda lawns. I would consider leaving it out during hot weather
Been trying to find some Celsius extra, can’t find it anywhere
Southern States has it
Site One also
@@Driven3d not available on SiteOne for some reason
BLINDSIDE
How does Image work?
id assume it works fine. Active ingredient is sulfentrazone which is the same as the blind side and dismiss in this video
Sage hammer is good
Disagree. I didn’t have great results with that. I still use MSMA
Sedgehammer is the same as Prosedge he tested here...same 75% ingredients with the bottle purchase. Halosulfuron-methyl - 75%
ProSedge
Kantana will be the most effective
What happens if we mix them all together? Lol
Boom 💥
I have 4 letters for you…. M.S.M.A.
I can see you a couple of problems with that. First is not legal on residential properties. The other problem is it burns up a lot of grass types other than bermuda
@@lawncarelife Yes, I am fully aware. I’m a licensed applicator and owner of a squirt and fert company. It’s labeled for use on golf courses so as long as I make a few chip shots on the lawn before I spray, I’m legal…. right? 😂
@@bryanaspinwall800 Squirt n Fert......😆
Too funny.
