  • I am testing powerful weed control products on dallisgrass, crabgrass and other tough weeds. I sprayed carpetgrass, nutsedge, kyllinga, foxtail, goosegrass, and broomsedge. The products I am using are tribute total and dismiss NXT. (affiliate) amzn.to/3PD9IVX
I wanted to see how well these products would do on tough grass weeds and sedges. This is an expensive combination that I am combining with methylated seed oil. amzn.to/3Kcj3D8 (affiliate)
I would not do a blanket application on a yard for of weeds with this combo due to the cost. It is most for spot treating weeds. I think dallisgrass and other grassy weeds are easier controlled during the fall, winter and early spring.

Just a heads up-- Dismiss NXT has an Ag equivalent--it's also made by FMC and costs about 70% less....under a different name, but same ratio of Carfentrazone and Sulfentrazone and comes in 1qt or 1 gallon sizes.

MSO dissolves the waxy coating on the leaves enabling the herbicide to be absorbed better. Surfactant help with leaf coverage, MSO helps with penetration.

I sprayed dallisgrass and crabgrass in my yard in early spring. It all died and was completely gone for 3 months. In August we started getting lots of rain, it all came back thicker and more hardy than before.

Awesome video, thank you for sharing your knowledge!
Question: you quickly mentioned using Solitare for getting rid or post emergent crabgrass (which is what I'm dealing with). How would you compare it to Quinclorac? Any pros / cons would be great commitment from a pro!
Thanks again for your videos and links, they are very helpful.

By far the most consistent RUclipsr posting things we want to see about lawn care. Question I just sprayed my weeds yesterday with just tribute, mso, and AMS mix. How long should I wait to mow? I'm eagerly waiting to wack them weeds down.

I love how you do these tests, but a video with second and application and results would be awesome. Also some super tough weeds I have read about whacking them ahead of first frost so that they are damaged when heading into winter dormancy. (It was wild violet and tryclophyr it believe)

Is it better to spray for weeds before or after you mow? I always thought mowing first would be better because the "open" ends of the weeds would "suck" up the poison faster or just do more damage having a fresh cut edge.

I added this same comment before about goose grass..i have many acres of zoysia [ Meyer Z-52} and have used sencor at a rate of 1.75 ounces per acre on young plugs through mature sod almost ready to harvest with no turf damage..the goose grass is totally 'straw' color in a couple of days.. also the goose grass was knee high !! i also used methylated seed oil at a rate of 1 quart per 150 gallons of spray on 8 acres .. This is not an expensive cure for goose grass..

Did you happen to find a goosegrass killer? or maybe someone else from the comments. I have a neighbor who basically lets goosegrass run wild in their lawn. I need something that goes scorched earth on it. I will have to be careful with my lawn. Its zoysia. Worst case scenerio. Anyone whos got ideas would be great.
