How to PASS the CBEST: Strategies & Tips

Hello there! Ever considered being a substitute teacher in the state of California? Well if you have, the number one requirement is to take and pass the CBEST. CBEST stands for California Basic Educational Skills Test. In this series of videos, I will walk you through the strategies and tips on acing the CBEST. If reading and writing aren't your strong suit, I will help you score as high as possible on the mathematics portion. The reading and math portion consists of a 50 question multiple choice test. The writing portion requires you to write two essays.
Today's video is just a brief intro about the CBEST and the basic things you need to do. High level, this is what is covered and focused on. In later videos, I will go over more details on actual practice tests and practice problems for the math portion.

Hi Chang! For the math portion, we can not use pencil and paper. Everything is done on Pearson Vue. No calculator, pencil, or paper. They only give us a virtual notepad and to solve the problem we need to type it in. Are you able to show us how to solve math problems just by using the notepad? It's very difficult to solve a problem just by staring and mentally solving it.

Hello Rose, thank you for the suggestion. For the next few videos, I will go over the paper-based version of the computer-based test. You can definitely follow along to see what my thought process is when solving these questions. At a later time, I will post a video with some test tasking tips and guides for the CBEST.
