A dog's happiness medicine. That's probably the best comment on the internet. I like your program because of the the landscapes and the leisurely lifestyle on the inland waterways are inviting. Cannel life feels absolutely captivating. Maybe it contains the Dog's happiness medicine, who knows. Happy water trails.
Dear David, You make me so envious as you float around the beautiful English countryside, and would love to emulate what you are doing, but at 85 I think it is in my best interests to just keep watching your wonderful videos instead.
Thanks for being such an excellent narrator. Having watched and enjoyed many of your videos, your personal commentary adds so much to an interesting story line.
Nice video. Yes, Bollington Wharf and the Coal Boat people are very nice. They've been my regualar suppliers since I first started boating. There's a funny photo somewhere on the net where they were going through Royal Oak Swing Bridge (shown in your video) where a motorist raced the barriers coming down and got trapped in the middle on the turntable section. The operator carried on pressing the button and the car with driver spun around with the bridge! :)
About 25 years ago on one of my infrequent returns to the UK for a holiday I was invited by some friends to join them on their hire boat on the Macclesfield canal, joining them at the powered swing bridge (parking the car at the pub across the road) and traveling with them down to the Little Morton Hall and back over three days. That was my only experience on the canals but it left an indelible impression and hence my subscribing to an insane number of boat tuber channels! So this series on the Mac was special for me and I've been waiting a long time for it, as none of the others seem to have traveled this route yet, or maybe I just missed it. And yes, it does bring back memories. Many thanks!
Another great video. I didn’t even know the canals existed until I happened upon one of your videos. I enjoyed going back and watching all your vlogs in order. Thanks for sharing your adventures with us. Best wishes from Georgia USA.
Once again a lovely journey captured with brilliant videography, narration and editing. Your videos are so relaxing and informative to watch. Thank you for taking me along, David
Wow! That custom design on that boat was pretty dang impressive! Add that to the list of thing you will do when you win a lottery (along with buying a canal side house with private mooring hehe)
After a less than great, anxiety ridden election day here in the US, your video's are a welcome retreat and great way to relax at the end of the day. Beautiful scenery, with unobtrusive commentary often with interesting facts not to mention your humor is a guilty pleasure. Thanks you for the vlog, and sharing your experiences.
It could be that this was one of the first channels I started following narrowboating, or there is a secret in the combination of calm voice and slow cruising through beautiful country side, but when I see the intro scene and the signature music I get a nostalgic chill. With any luck you'll never tire of cruising, and please keep the intro and outro music!
These videos are my way to relax after a stressful day. Actually, they are a great way to start the day as well. Just so enjoyable and beautiful. When we are looking for something to watch, we always agree on Cruising the Cut!
David - Thank you for all the videos. I am always amazed at the amount of engineering and effort which was put in place to make these canals possible. From swinging foot bridges, to car bridges, aqueducts going over/under roads, the signs, the maintenance and all done mostly by volunteers and donations (as well as the licensing fees I'm sure). The fact that all of the canals are man made and just the immense effort which takes all done by a Trust and not a Government Agency. It's truly honestly amazing. It gives me hope for humanity, because it shows how a group of people who have a common goal in mind can achieve incredible things all for the sake of what really amounts to a leisure activity (although after watching your videos it is clear the canal supports and maintains a great deal of businesses throughout the country). Once again Thank you for all of your videos. They are funny, you are a very good narrator and your videos are superbly edited. I wanted to share my experience because I am sure there are plenty of other folks who watch the videos and never provide any feedback letting you know how much we enjoy it.
I have been to Britain several times and I have sailed a lot but I think I would love to explore the canal system. I really enjoy your forays into the canal systems and your chats explaining narrow boat workings. Thank you for all the work making and editing your Vlog, it is an inspiration to those of us who would have never thought about cruising canals until we saw your take on it.
David, Ive got to say how appreciative i am that you suffer through these painfully beautiful days on the canal system. The hardships you endure for your viewing fans humble me, not to mention the true drudgery of opening those swing bridges! Just to show how nice I am, i'll volunteer to come over and suffer that for you and you can come here and enjoy the -10 nights, ice and snow. I know, yes, that's a sweet deal for you, but I'd be willing to sacrifice that for you...just for a month or so, all i could likely bear to suffer! Sorry, couldn't help that one....another very enjoyable venture, still think UK tourism needs to hire you!
Great to see my local section of canal from a boat perspective. I only get to see it from the towpath! Those buttresses' at 8:45 were put there about 15 years ago after the retaining wall did collapse into the canal. The closed towpath at 10:22 is because the retaining wall had collapsed on the towpath just after the previous bridge (next to the white cottage at 9:40). Also in late 2020/early 2021, the canal was closed over a small stretch as the canal had breached the foundations of one of the houses where the old crane was in the garden!
When you said towards the end "time for me to call it a day after filming these little horsey things". Made me laugh. Beautiful looking little tiny horses. I know you love horses. The timing in the way you said it was funny. lol
I am constantly amazed at how much effort is put into these canals and the maintenance of them. Some of the solutions like the lift from one of the other videos, seem like such an impractical, though creative way to go about things.
Journeying up the Macclesfield canal is possibly the the most serene passages I have watched of all you cuises. I don't know if it the late autumn or the 3 mph speed but I have watched this twice already and I think it is my favourite. Thank you David.
Very beautiful view with the hills in the background.. Also quite intrigued about the history of some or the old factories being transformed into apartments and making Parachutes in WWII.. or even office's..smart way of keeping them used instead of being torn down.. Cheers!
That was a beautiful mural on that narrowboat, thanks for catching that! It’s always nice to see when people help each other out on the canals with locks and swing bridges. The videos clearly show these are challenging for single boaters. The countryside there is beautiful though!!
That my friend is England as we all love, not gone, just that we need to be in touch and continue your and that Ladies' sense of good manners and kindness . Seems its alive and well in narrow boating and some thanks to the makers of video games that keep Chavs inside houses and away from outdoors.

Oh David, you have such a hard life - no I'm not jealous - well - maybe! It's all so beautiful - and for once the heron didn't flap it's wings at you and skiddadle. Going to have to watch this again when I need to relax....
Well, that was pleasant. I enjoy seeing the green countryside, cows and horses, ducks and heron(s). Your wry commentary is what I like best of all. So long from Minnesota, USA again.
I think you need to make a substantial financial claim at the UK Department of Tourism given how much of the beautiful midlands scenery your videos allow people to see. :) As is often the case, I learned a new English word from your video ... "bollard". I believe that translates into "cleat" in our (US) version of "English". As always thank you for the video Dave. When I'm outside in the Pilbara dryness and heat. Then I go watch your videos of greenery and water it is always such a enjoyable experience.
Can't understand your attitude to the motorists who have to wait when we move the bridges. We love it. The longer the queue the better! At Plank Lane the bridge got jammed with a bit of rag and it took us nearly an hour to lower it, it was great.........😀

At Plank Lane the bridge got jammed with a bit of rag and it took us nearly an hour to lower it, it was great.........😀
It’s because I like a quiet life and not to have people shouting at me.
