It does amuse and equally annoy me that people give a thumbs down. What did they expect? The title tells them what it's about, as does the description and thumbnail. It's well shot, edited, good sound quality and narrative. I am mystified.
John, there is an explanation. When RUclips selects a video and presents it on your screen as "Recommended for you", then you click on it and discover that it is not the type which is of interest to you - then if you select the dislike [thumbs down], and YT algorithms will no longer 'recommend' that genre of video again. Thus, they are not all negative about the channel or poster.
And some folks are just unable to be happy with anything. As you know they are all about. Anymore you can walk outside close your eyes and toss a rock and when you hear an ouch you found one.
And the Oscar for best pretending to look at things while filming himself goes to... David Johns of CruisingTheCut! Kidding aside David, you really deserve some award for cinematography, this was stunning.
I never thought I would end up watching so many narrow boat videos, and the culprit that got me involved was you! The way you describe throughout what we're seeing with such interest, it keeps us coming back for more! I've tried watching a lot of those other boaters, most are extremely boring, and even though they are on the same section as you! Anyway, thanks for making it fun to watch, and some day I'll make that trip to the good old UK and try to hitch a ride!
Glorious, as usual. Note to self, on sleepless nights, use David's beautiful tranquil journeys down the cut to work their soporific magic... the calming voice helps too
" England's green and pleasant land " indeed. That was wonderful. One to be watched over again for its verdant beauty. I wonder what the original working narrow boaters would think of the boats now being used and lived in as a home by choice for the love of it. I think they would approve. Thank you so much. This might be my favourite so far.
Yes, be sure to tell us if you ever do the narration for an audiobook, I would buy it regardless of the subject (except horror, no horror audiobooks please! )
What a lovely start to the video. What magnificent scenery. The canal sounds are gorgeous. Wonderful video and super commentary. The information you impart is always so very interesting with your twist of humour added in. The drone shots are brilliant. More please. I know it's impossible to fly the drone whilst you are steering AND using the camera at the same time!
I agree with you 100%! This channel has quickly become a favorite at my house. My wife and I had the opportunity to binge-watch yesterday and got caught up to date, however, there are so many that are older such as this one that we have yet to watch and consider it a treat!
I agree, there is some fantastic camera work and very atmospheric shots. I would be expecting a call from Steven Spielberg (is that how you spell it? )
David while most canals are just wide enough to all the vessels to pass, I remain amazed just how narrow the English canals are is reality. Plus how absolutely beautiful it is. There are times during your private tour I feel like you have taken us through a Time Warp Portal while are on your boat, and we are looking at the world of today through a window but we are somewhere back in time, it is just so peaceful.
Your journey took me back 70 years. I often walked from Strines to Adlington along the canal (or through Lyme Park). Our scout troop had a narrow boat moored at Adlington, but we had other boats which I took along the canal back to Strines or High Lane. Of course, it was then very much quieter, just a few boats and they were mostly working boats. I must now find your journey on the Peak Forest canal. Thanks for the memories.

I really appreciate the drone footage. It adds a lot to your productions. More please. Ron in Washington State.
David: Please feel free to "blather on" ad infinitum. Having never been able to visit England, much less on a canal touring narrowboat, your commentary makes the videos immensely more enjoyable than the competition. You point out things I might have missed, plus the background information and explanations all make me feel more like I am right there with you. Remember when you explained that the problem with a "trad" stern was that it made it difficult to have a conversation if you did have a guest? Well your blathering fills that gap nicely for this viewer trapped in Thailand! Thanks and carry on.
Always lovely well recorded audio, and nice smooth levels. Never too quiet, never too loud and always very clear. The birdsong at the start was lovely too!
Hi there, I discovered your videos by the 'Recommended for you' list, and enjoyed the tour of the boat and this episode.. It's funny how much I can relate to your choice. I too was a journalist (photographer) for over 25 years, based in London and then Paris from the mid 80's. I chose to leave journalism and move to rural France and set up a fishing lake business. I have in the past owned a camper and travelled widely in it... and it is a retirement project to do so again with my wife. I'm glad you are still going on your travels... You know the French waterways are vast, so if you run out of English waterways to sail on...... I shot some pictures last month of a retired Dutch couple who had left Rotterdam in September, on a tugboat and were sailing down the French canals and rivers to Sète, due to arrive in April next year. Anyway I look forward to following your travels. best Regards Gareth
As always a pleasant trip. That drone scenes are amazing wouldn't mind a minute or two more of each in the video. Long videos aren't a bad thing per se.
Macclesfield one of the last British canals built as late as 1830's - as trains were making first appearance. Something very special and uniquely beautiful about this stretch of water highway - including the elliptical shaped bridges.
The bridges! I love all of the canal bridges. Each one has so much character and charm. I've never seen anything quite like them. I like when CtC (and other channels) point them out in their films.
Just enjoyed the last 4 vlogs in a row, l'm sure l will continue my viewing, well into the night. I just wanted to say, Autumn in the UK is quintessentially British, the heavy morning dews, cool air, that climbs gently throughout the day, often beneath a clear blue sky, and just the hint of Mother Nature's impending spectacular finale in November, with all the hues and breathtaking colours, before our evenings draw in. I have been privileged to live in the Arctic Circle in Finland ( my thumbnail), and of course it to has its own beauty, but my heart will forever be in England. Thank you, for your wonderful content, it has always been of the highest quality.
I have previously commented (and complimented) on your latest audio developments and this most recent birdsong reinforced that view. But the sound of flapping wings as the birds descended onto the canal was extraordinary and a treat even to the casual observer. Well done, once again!
I've start watching your videos, and hit the subscribe button after seeing episode no. 172. I was thinking who named a video "food, glorious food" is worth watching. So I've start from the beginning, from episode 1. I don't regret it! Thank you so much!
"Food, glorious food! Hot sausage and mustard! While we're in the mood -- Cold jelly and custard! Peas, pudding and saveloys! What next is the question? Rich gentlemen have it, boys -- In-di-gestion! " etc.... ( from Oliver )
Brings back fond memories for me. Lived in Poynton in the late forties and learned to swim in the Macclesfield Canal. Now in British Columbia, Canada retired and in my eighties. Jumping off the canal bridge in Higher Poynton seems just like yesterday.
Nice vlog and lovely scenery. Just a tip, when using chains, or mooring rings, take a loop of rope, pass it through the ring, hook it around the boat cleat, pull tight and tie off the loose end on the boat. Saves having to feed the whole length of rope through the ring. Happy travels.
Just lovely! I think I'm going to bookmark this one and watch it over and over again in the depths of cold dark bleak winter! I've thoroughly enjoyed your trip on the Mac, thank you so much for making this video and sharing it with us. 💖
David was in fine form and elegaic mood for this one, from the dew-sprinkled dawn and avian choir, to his rather impressive parallel parking, at the knell of parting day. A very nice piece of work, young man!
That could be a first David, an entire episode shot from your drone over a particularly complex canal junction, complete with moorings and boatyard, say. Presuming all kosher with CRT. With suitable v/o detailing historical elements, sundry facts etc, etc. Definitely seems to be a demand for at least one aerial episode.
We enjoy your jabbering, it's informative and gives us a look at what you find interesting, and possibly how your mind works, and not everyone talks to the dogs along the trail. I love the way you folks in GB, repurpose old cotton mills, factories, etc.. into new businesses, apartment (flats) etc... Unfortunately, they mostly just get demolished and something new is built here in the US. SAFE MOTORING
I love the Mac and Peak Forest. Your trip showed the junction onto the Peal Forest. On our trip there, our friend's dog Monty decided to leave the boat as we passed through the narrow. The first we knew was seeing a dog that looked just like Monty heading up onto the bridge! His owner leapt off and I reversed into the narrow and hovered. Monty was recovered quickly and we were on our way. Dogs are lovely on a boat, but can give you a surprise occasionally.
I have to say, whenever im feeling down. I watch your vlog. Because my dream is to live a good 45ft canalboat one day. And your expertise with film and your voice makes it ignite the fire of me wanting that life style. Plus it really relaxes me watching your vids whenever I am feeling down or lost in life. Wish you could show more of inside your boat living or updates or look to see how more people live in their boats, or show us more of the world around that community etc. Keep up the good work. And I hope to see you one day. I'm 29 now, but hopefully you'll stick around vlog or no vlog in the canals so I can shake your hand. P.s you legit have a great singing voice btw. Props for singing Sinatra well.
Good day from Vancouver British Columbia! I must say just how delighted I am watching the sights from the stern then following along with Googla Earth. The history and beauty of your canal systems is simply quite amazing! I so wish they’d put the effort into building them here instead of pipelines.. anywho, thank you for sharing your adventure! Dean.
Thank you for sharing your wonderful cruise this morning. A beautiful day for a short journey. Better weather there than here in East Tennessee USA. Cold and very foggy morning.
Thank you again for another lovely video for me and my son to watch. So relaxing and beautiful scenery. Please keep them coming. Looking forward to your winter vids
I interrupted watching 199 twice. Once because I could swear I was looking at a John Constable and had to check and later when I "knew" you were showing us Giverny and that Monet would be crossing the bridge to welcome us in. It is that beautiful. Were armies of British youth under the direction of Luchino Visconti paid to place those yellowing leaves on the mirror surface of the waters? I could feel the breeze denuding the trees above and the light shooting through the gaps. Beautiful! Every second beautiful
I know I leave this comment quite often, but another lovely video David! I really feel that if there is a hire boat trade organization promoting the canals, they would do well to contract with you to produce adverts for them. Truly makes me long for a narrowboat holiday.
Ross Barton There is a cormorant on the short section of canal in Chichester U.K., that follows the wake of the tourist boat and sweeps up whatever is disturbed. AJ
@@CruisingTheCut certainly not as common as heron, but I'd say we probably see them around as much as kingfishers. Though those are harder to spot even when they are around!
I agree with you, the Macclesfield seems to be the best canal, yet. Thank you for the amazing videos and the excellent commentary. Excellent things to watch, while holed up in the house.
Thanks for posting sir . Full water tank empty potty. Love that line. Scenery supurb. Looking from Canada towards the west it appears so idyllic. Thanks for taking me along on the cruise. Between cruisingthecut and narrowboatexperience and the cats. I now know were to get the best cat clumping litter and the above mentioned water tank business. Win Win Win for us all. Thanks Britain.....your parents did a good job with each and every one of you. :-)
At 6:01 - yes, that's a cormorant. And they're pretty common on the canals - at least around us. There's 2 or 3 spend most of their time on our marina at Preston Brook, and we see them a lot on the Bridgewater and upper Trent & Mersey. It never occurred to me that they might be rare elsewhere. We love them, especially when they follow the boat, diving regularly to fish. I wonder if they are after fish disturbed by our passage.
Many thanks for your great videos. We are in the South West of western Australia and greatly enjoy the comforting pace and soothing sounds you deliver. Cheers.
This was absolutely beautiful to watch. I would like you to bring us along when going shopping sometime. After all, shopping is part of canal life!? Many beautiful places to see in this video. Now, back to my wife, who also is beautiful.
The drone really makes following along on a map worth it for these videos. It was nice to discover your view of the valley on my computer then see it shown on the drone. Great video.
Your videos are just stunningly beautiful, David, thank you so much! I know things get slow during winter, and i know its starting to get really cold in England now, but please, dont stop filming and uploading, even if for just a chat with a cup of hot tea by the fire!
What an enchanting landscape. Thoroughly enjoyed the journey. One of the very best, even by the very high standard that we know we can expect in your vlogs. So, thank you very much. And to bed now for a very restful sleep. Btw, great work with the drone!
Well done David. Knowing how you are a shy, retiring fellow that you are, I shall not express the depth of joy, and how the gentle rolling hills with the plant and animal life all enjoying on such a lovely day brought peace to a weary soul. I'll keep that to myself, Wouldn't want to embarrass such a modest man as yourself. ;-)
It does amuse and equally annoy me that people give a thumbs down. What did they expect? The title tells them what it's about, as does the description and thumbnail. It's well shot, edited, good sound quality and narrative. I am mystified.

Glorious, as usual. Note to self, on sleepless nights, use David's beautiful tranquil journeys down the cut to work their soporific magic... the calming voice helps too
You are one heck of a powerful, unintentional salesman for the downright striking beauty of Jolly Old England! It's gorgeous!
Binge watching your videos is a wonderful diversion from my quarantined life. They’re a treasure.
Same ^.^
Great drone footage at the end.👍

David, can your canal boat adventure book be far behind?
1:30 that jabber is part of the experience -- you are our tour guide
Parallel parking a canal boat!! Some people couldn't do that in Mini Cooper. Well done, Captain.
As I played this video, several small birds near my window started replying to the ones in your footage. It really felt like I was there!
Hahaha how funny
I find your voice a comfort. Thank you.

Unfortunately, it was chucking with rain when I went along it as you'll see in the next vlog.
Absolutely beautiful intro shots. All of your travel videos are relaxing and enjoyable. Thank you.

Beautiful. I really enjoyed hearing the birdlife, would have been magical. Stunning scenery, thank you.
Those Jacob Sheep were gifted by King William III in 1692 and have been there ever since.
I've made that up.
Well done David. Knowing how you are a shy, retiring fellow that you are, I shall not express the depth of joy, and how the gentle rolling hills with the plant and animal life all enjoying on such a lovely day brought peace to a weary soul. I'll keep that to myself, Wouldn't want to embarrass such a modest man as yourself. ;-)
lovely job of parallel parking, . very clean finish though your neighbor looked a little skeptical.
Fantastic vlog,as per usual. Oh the simple things in life....a full tank and an empty toilet...I did chuckle. 😂
I'd rather have a full belly and a sunny deck :)
Another great video 👋, thanks for sharing, keep 'em coming and safe travels 🙏.
