Victoria thanks you for criticizing this man. I'm terrified of this channel and I think one of these hamsters is a male and the other is a female and it will end up with hamster babies and it seems to me that the creator intends to attract people by making the hamster give birth and get more views. I've been avoiding that channel like the plague. I keep getting asked about it because of my experience with soil enclosures and it just took one look at their original set up for it to be so obvious that they're doing it to farm views. Even though soil set ups are still very uncommon (as they should be, I love them but they're a huge pain in the butt to maintain correctly😂) there is at least enough information available now that they have no excuses for doing it so so badly, and no excuses for the tiny size or lack or enrichment.
Honestly, it reminds me so much of that channel with the underwater hamster cage and the roborovski. I don't know if that guy is still around but both channels have the same "do anything for the views" vibe, and the scariest part is their presentation. They intentionally film, edit and script their videos in such a way to make it appear as though they are educated and knowledgable on the subjects they speak about, it's so manipulative. That unjustified confidence is enough to lure any casual viewer, new owner or kid into trusting everything they say regardless of if it's true or harmful. Love seeing these channels undermining the hamster community's hard work all for the sake of easy money 🤪😒

You’re absolutely right, the channel expresses having zero knowledge about hamsters, but if he was to reengineer the idea with knowledge backing up his creative process then maybe he can win this idea. But he’s making a random enclosure and just throwing a hamster inside. Idk it kind of a seems like he’s only obsessed with the idea of playing God.

Poor hamsters deserved so much better! Even in my house, I forbid people to touch or feed Bunny (that's her name, haha! They stick 10 of them in a jar & think that's okay because "I saw a cool picture on Instagram :)" & then get sooo mad when it's pointed out that it's animal abuse. People hate admitting small animals are animals & not inanimate objects for some reason, man. I think they just want a pet but don't want to do the work involved, but also don't want to feel guilty about killing an animal slowly so they pretend it's basically a pet rock :/

If you want two rodents in a hamster enclosure, do not get hamsters, get gerbils. Gerbil enclosure requirements are pretty similar to hamsters, so you can move on to gerbils without changing up the whole hamster setup. Gerbils are social and although they're also not always like their roommates (in which case you should separate them), they're very likely to get to like each other and actually benefit from the presence of a friend.

I didn’t want to. My hammy had babies and I waited till the deadline before separating the males, and 2 females. It took me awhile before finding someone to adopt the female. Then, the 2 girls have already been together for weeks. The first week I gave the one female off, the one I was keeping started to sleep all day long. I received a text from the other, saying that the other was acting weird too, sleeping all day and suddenly becoming aggressive. She got returned and I placed them back to the same cage. To my surprise, they both sniffed each other and immediately started to help groom each other. It has been 6 months now, I still find them sleeping with each other and being with each other in a hideout despite the fact that I put 7 hideouts. I also find them sleeping in the same burrow a lot. Still, I make sure to put a camera inside and observe them. Though, I find they follow each other a lot. In the future though, I will avoid keeping 2 hamsters together that they bonded.

6:06 big agree, hamster bites are no joke, and they can be an issue even with well socialized hamsters! one time i was trying to examine my late syrian Pine because he looked a little off, but he was extremely skittish (probably because of the issue that i had noticed and wanted to examine him for). because i was concerned about his health, i kept trying to pick him up and look him over when i should have left him alone, and he got spooked and gave me two nasty bites on my hand. i immediately went to wash them off and take care of them, but one of them was bleeding so fast it was dripping blood and i had to keep pressure on it to stop it. biting is their last resort defense mechanism, and god damn if it doesn't work! tl;dr, i can vouch for hamster bites definitely being something you should take seriously lol

I got bit pretty badly once by one of my chineseys, but it was my fault really. We had multiple hammies at the time, different genders, and I had just been handling one and didn't wash my hands or wait a bit between trying to interact with another. I tried to move something away from behind her and she must have caught the smell and got surprised thinking it was another hamster. She chomped down hard on my pointer finger and got stuck. I tried not to move my hand suddenly but I had to pry her mouth open slightly to remove her as she was hanging off my finger - I don't even think she knew what happened. She sat down and sniffed my blood drops and just seemed weirded out by it. The bite almost pierced all the way through. It healed fast though and this little one must have felt bad because she was so sweet with me after, like she was sorry somehow. Other than that mistake I've never been bit and I've cared for fourteen Chinese hammies over the last ten years.

I once rescued a pair of hamsters from an unkind home, I don't know if hamsters can bond with trauma but when I first got them they would become very distressed when I tried to separate them. They wouldn't leave each others side, they were happy to be held if together but bit to all hell if alone, and my heart broke with the sounds they made. I let them stay together until they fully settled into their new home and separated them once they were less attached. After that I kept their homes close to each other and for a long time they seemed to talk to each other and try to be as close as possible within their separate homes.
The home I rescued them from is so lucky they formed this strange bond, because from their chipped and pierced ears and scars it was clear they had fought a lot when they were young.

Victoria, you are totally right. TWICE I housed about 2 dwarf hamsters together. Until my syrian got into their enclosure and chewed one of their heads off, it was all fine. After that my roborovski dwarf attacked my jungarian. I have no idea why has them together. I thought that everybody at Petco was knowledgeable. But now my syrian and one of my dwarfs are living in septate enclosures big enough. And I'm so happy to see them thriving and surviving. (The Syrian dwarves were never housed together.)

I’m not sure if this man has any common sense or respect for these animals. Honestly, I am so grateful that you are criticizing these types of people. You don’t see a lot of people like you advertising proper hamster care and information. You mostly see people on the internet who are abusing these animals for views and money. As a very big hamster lover, I love your videos and I do try to spread them to people I see that are not engaging in proper care for their hamsters. In fact, you changed one of my friends hamsters life, because my friend got information from your videos.Thank you Victoria, and please never stop doing what your doing because you really are changing animals lives, and peoples mindsets!!!❤️❤❤

I was hoping you would react to this, I got it in my recommendation and I got too frustrated to finish the video. Your reaction pretty much summed up mine. Now there are 2 possible outcomes for those hamsters, either one is a female and will give birth or they will get into a much bigger fight at some point. 😖 Not even gonna mention that the setup still sucks.
I also hate how he did research before he decided to introduce them, saw that hamsters are solitary and was like, "Oh, well, lemme introduce these guys just because I can." Just ugh. 💀

That video made me so anxious. The cat is bad enough, but I've seen what having two hamsters together can end up like. When I was a kid, we had two dwarf hamsters. I didn't know any better at the time, so they were in the same cage. I think we had them for a month or so before one killed the other. Really traumatizing for a kid.

My sister and I kept our sibling dwarf hamsters together in a large enclosure for the first couple months of their lives. I'd say at 3 months old they decided they had enough. These were babies that cuddled together constantly prior. Thankfully it wasn't a fight or explosion, we just noticed the one starting to hoard the food and not let the other close to the stash or dishes. We separated them that night. Glad we did too because they were sexed wrong and we did have a boy and girl. But we didn't want to risk that fight and that bit gave us time to build 2 permanent enclosures.
This video gave me so much anxiety though. My boy will bite me if he even so much as smells another male hamster on me. And it hurts.

Are natural enclosures ok for hamsters? I always thought the dirt and stuff would get in their eyes but I use a sand bath. I use the regular hamster bedding and sometimes my hamster (ab 8months) gets like this sticky stuff in her eyes and I take it out with a cotton swab, this normal/should I keep getting it out or am I doing more harm then good?

Hello Victoria! I want to start by telling you that I absolutely love your video and if my hamster can have this amazing life it's because of you and your video you help me to give him the life that he can dream of and improve the way that I am taking care of him. I also have a suggestion for a video in the future who, I think, would help me and a lot other person which is to do a video on the herbs and their effects on hamster. For example, in your last video you said that thym has a effect on the respiratory system of the hamster. I hope you will think of it! Thank you!

Thanks for highlighting the issues with this channel, I'm going to go and report it. Exploiting animals and treating them irresponsibly for entertainment is disgusting.
I rescued a Syrian hamster from a pet shop that had been left in a cage with another so I've seen first hand the damage they can do. His back was covered in deep gashes and wounds, and he would scream in fear anytime you went near him. It was amazing that he survived and eventually became a tame, happy pet. He was covered in scars for the rest of his life though.

I've only had my hamster for a week because my sister gave her to me out of the blue and your channel has helped me a lot like she came in a tiny cage like 130 and that same day I ran to Walmart can got the biggest bin I could and use your videos to build one but it's only like 350 and I'm buying a 1.2k+ square inches soon plus she had a 6-inch mesh wheel and the best I could do on short notice was a plastic 8.5 so I'm ordering a 12.5 wooden one after I get my paycheck
your channel has helped me a lot this past week! Cookie my Panda Syrian is showing less and less stress signs

Thank you so much for posting at least once every week. I learned about hamsters being solitary the hard way. Many years ago I bought a hamster from the pet store and she ended up having six babies. I kept all of them, separated the boys and girls, and they never fought or hurt one another as far as I am aware. I thought it was normal and not that I was lucky. Fast forward many years something similar happens- I kept two boys, one girl, and the mother. My last pair of brothers were super close from what I saw, and I thought the same thing for these two new ones...Well, I came home one day and they had off'd one another. I was shocked because I had never had something happen like this before. It was a pretty eye-opening experience for a younger me. I haven't put any hamsters together since. I know better now. :')
Honestly though I despise seeing channels like this. Especially with the cat being right there lol. There's another channel on YT that has placed a teddy bear hamster next to a mother cat and her kittens several times for extended periods. I just wanted cute cat videos and all I got was stress. 😵

As most of us know, female hamsters are in heat like once a week, and if anyone has owned a female and accidentally touched near her back end they know females stiffen up for a few seconds while the male mates with her. She goes stiff for easier access. The hamsters made an attempt to mate in this video, though judging by the position of the little one I doubt it was a successful first attempt

During the pandemic, we wanted to get a hamster. While we were on the waiting list for a hamster from Strong Brew hamstery, we also checked out local rescues for any hamsters in need of a good home. There was a rescue that featured hamsters in pairs and even threes, and when we wanted to apply to adopt one of them, they refused because they said they were looking to place those hamsters all together as they were "friends". At that time the hamsters were still fairly young. We told them that hamsters were solitary, they refused to let us adopt a single hamster and were adamant the hamsters needed each other. I was very surprised at such an approach from a rescue. We ended up waiting for 5 months for our Strong Brew hammie (strongly recommend them), but I always wondered what happened to those poor hamsters they refused to adopt out as singles...
