Just love how people call her a know-it-all when she’s literally one of the nicest pet care RUclipsrs ever. Like, at least she’s not being rude, or yelling. She’s just trying to help!
Yeah, know it all implies she thinks she’s done learning, or looks down on others which she doesn’t.She’s so nice when educating others on proper hamster care even when you can tell the enclosure is breaking her heart. There’s so much on RUclips that does nothing for the world- she’s making it better through education.

Anyone else feel huge guilt for how their pets suffered when they were kids? I'm 23 now and my rabbit and hamster live like the king and queen they are, but I can't help thinking back on my childhood pets and dying a little inside :'(
i had two mice from 10 years ago that i just put inside a cylindrical container.. and they soon escaped.. now i have a hamster and im waiting for his 648sq inch tank! (Temporary tank is only: 200sq inch)
In my opinion if you had a pet and "mistreated it" when you were 12 that was not you being irresponsible. it was your parents being irresponsible for letting a 12 year old handle animals that shouldn't typically be handled by young children. i had a lot of guilt about a bunny accidentally strangling itself on a leash when I was 8 as i leashed it and left it unsupervised. it freaked out and hung itself. i was horrified and traumatised. and i only came to a realisation that my parents shdn't have bought a leash for a bunny in the first place. i still feel sad about it but now i know its not exactly my fault
Awe thx everyone for the likes! Remember everyone makes mistakes when caring for animals but don’t worry that’s a part of growing as a hamster caretaker!
topsy matthews I don’t know if you knew this but some people grew up without the internet, when google didn’t exist doing simple research wasn’t so simple
topsy matthews Even then, they knew nothing about hamsters before researching. And everyone can improve. No matter how much research someone will do, they still have plenty of room to grow, especially with the experience they will earn from taking care of the hamster! 😁
The best thing is that she changed and tried so hard along the way to constantly fix her mistakes. And that brings her to where she is now. She is literally the best hamster mentor
Hello! I am 11 years old and just got my first Hamster Rafa. He is a dwarf Roborovski hamster and I love him so much! I would just like to say your channel has helped so much! My first cage ever has 658 square inches of floor space, a 8.5 inch wheel, and 7 inches of bedding!!! He has so much enrichment and is a super happy hammy!! Thank you❤
Sadly in the pet industry goldfish and hampsters are treated like road kill... They are just toys for greedy corporations to sell... Little goldfish and little hamsters always outgrow their bowls and cages... Responsible pet stores should NOT be selling either... Instead of selling expensive cages designed more for children than their pets, these stores would be better off selling cheaper, larger plastic storage bins....
There’s a small independent pet shop very close to my home, the hamster cages they sell are actually all reasonable sizes... which is good :) but food isn’t the best... and they use sawdust... but they do separate the Syrians once they’re too old. I was going to get a hamster but I never did... it was too hard convincing my parents for a large enough cage.. so I’ll have to wait but that’s fine,
Its really nice to hear that Even Victoria made mistakes of hamster care! I’ve had 5 hamsters when i was younger, and that lived in such a small cage and their wheels were way too small. Even one of my hamsters, Charlie got a swollen foot, and we had to put her down. But! I didn’t know better! I blame it on the pet shops where the hamsters are sold. These shops never had a really big cage that they sell. They ONLY sell small cages. I think it would be awesome if a hamster shop could follow all the rules for a nice hamster care. It would be such a nice idea if maybe they gave out a booklet to the new pet owners about how to do a nice hamster care. It’s really sad that all these hamsters have such a bad life. And I’m honestly ashamed of that I’ve done such a bad job taking care of my hamsters.
Wow those cages are TERRIBLE... and I’m so thankful you’re being so transparent about your mistakes. I think we all have guilt for the way we treated our pets as stupid kids (or misinformed adults), and it’s great to see an example of learning and teaching from mistakes instead of pretending they never happened.
I just got a Syrian hamster yesterday and she is adorable. Her name is Pixel. I’ve been binge watching your hamster care videos so I can give Pixel the best life possible. I am also very nervous and a bit stressed not because I am unprepared, but because it’s my first time and I don’t want to mess anything up. This video helped me know that even an experienced hamster owner can still make mistakes so I should expect to make some of my own. Keep up the great work, I really enjoy your videos! ❤️
Hey! This comment was 8 months ago! How's ur hamster doing now?♡ I got my 1st hamster this year in April I think:) She's a winter white dwarf hamster named Cheeko:)
Guys, this lady has probably saved countless hamster life’s and improved so many people’s cages!! I never knew hamster needed MEET?! But now I do and when I get a hamster I will feed it what it needs and that’s because of you! Tysm!
The one time I actually want a hamster I can't get it because the stores are closed! On the bright side I have a longer time to do research and maybe even build a cage myself! (with help of course!)
Your videos are so illuminating for me. I had a hamster for six months that mysteriously died. I didn't know that pet stores carry products that were unsafe. (I was also a teenager making decisions that an adult didn't care to step in to help, but that's a different conversation.) I literally bought the entire enclosure from the pet store that day. Now that I know better, if I ever get a hamster again, I'm doing it right!
It's actually so good to hear I'm not the only one who made a lot of mistakes. My Syrian Hamster is living in an 40 gallon aquarium at the moment and although it's a bit too small and far from perfect I'm so fond of myself to at least give him a decent home. Unfortunately I really don't have the money to buy a bigger one but I'm planning to make him a large playpen as soon as I know how much money I get this month (coronavirus is cutting my salary)
@@chxleae5906 they may not have known at first. That's the point of these videos!! They are to help people learn and grow. If you aren't fully informed on this person's stance, why reply with criticism at all? Best we can do is try and make it better.
Maybe use a bin cage? It only costed me around $30 and I think I had about 500-600 square inches Edit: I found a pin that is 819 square inches on target for $22!! It’s called a 200qt bin, I am going to upgrade my sister syarian to that because he is living in 550 rn and that’s too small for me.
@@chxleae5906 Thats just like saying. If you dont have money, why have kids? Did you not hear the person say that this PANDEMIC is affecting their salary. Have some empathy. The person clearly said they will upgrade when they can. 40 Gallon is much more than what many people have. I am sure the hamster is fine!
My hamster has been taken cared badly, and I've only realised that by watching Victoria but hes so old and I could never get him a bigger cage. But I'm so glad I know more now.
OH MY GOSH IM SO GLAD IM NOT ALONE!!! I am literally NEVER satisfied with my hamster's cages. My parents think i'm ridiculous and she's spoiled but it's just never right. Saving my money to get her a cage a little smaller than your hamster cages! Thank you for helping me take good care of my hamster !
"I hope 2020 is going to be a good year and not a flop." I know she was talking about her hamster care, but watching in late march 2020 with the corona virus and death of many in the helicopter crash, storms and floods, wildfires in Australia, amazon rainforest being destroyed, many species now under threat, I laughed very hard as this as the year already flopped in the first month xD
Im 31 and have my first hamster and have been watching all these videos to learn how to make his life happy. It was an impulse buy from a pet store and I ran around gathering what the store sold other than those wire cages and got a large critter keeper. I dont think the store owner who sold me this hamster thought I was serious when I said this was a very temporary set up. My hamster within the first week was in an upgraded foldable catio play pen with a 6.5 inch wheel. Now 2 weeks into owning a dwarf hamster he has a 3 drawer dresser turned into enclosure with 13-16 inches bedding and 738 square inches of floor space. I got him etsy Hamster Eatery food and he loves it! Thanks to your videos I am able to do this right ❤
At the end of the day, there’s no such thing as a mistake-free pet owner. We’ve all had to grow and learn from our mistakes (my first reptile had a cage that was a fraction of what it needed and I was really bad at keeping the humidity at the right level). The important thing is to be open to learning and avoid shaming new/inexperienced pet owners and to stop pretending we were always perfect. I love your approach to pet care education, keep up the good work!
I’ve had my robo for 2 days and he’s already walking onto my hand!!! I think he might be easier to tame than most people say about robos. P.s. his name is Rocket :)
THE RUBY NUKE how much time did you give him to settle in? Normally people advise you to not interact with new hamsters for 2 days to a week. No hate, just a suggestion for any future hamsters you may own.
@@localsadcowboy8721 This doesn't help in anyway 99% of the time. In fact, most ethical breeders encourage new owners not to do this nowadays. It's a very misinformed and outdated practice. Breeders put so much time into taming the babies and then when the new owners go and leave their new hamsters for days-weeks it just sets back the breeders hard work and the new owner wonders why the hamster isn't as comfortable with human interaction. With a young hamster, the more you handle it the tamer it will be and therefore easier to help when it requires health checks, nail clipping and treatments etc. Leaving the hamster isolated just makes them more fearful. If they're nervous on day 1 they will be just as nervous if not more nervous on day 7. If you do gentle handling and interaction from day 1 you will build up their confidence and trust sooner and if your hamster is from a reputable breeder it will maintain and build upon the work the breeder has done with socialising etc.
@@neeve2010 My hamster gave birth to 6 hamsters, I sold 5 of them. And the one that was left got so tamed, that whenever I put my hand in her cage, she is always up to go and greet me. Her name is Milka btw, and will be 5 months this month. I renember the starts when I tried to hold her for the first time, she peed in my hands. Then she started to bite a little, but not hard. Almost like test biting if it was worth to bite me, or not. And then when she grew up, she became an angel. tbh, Ive never had such a tammed hamster before. And the 5 other syrian baby hamsters we're also a bit tamed, so the customers had to have an easy job on taming them.
I used to have a hamster who died a few years back and I feel so bad about the way I cared for her! She had such a small cage! I’m getting another hamster and they’ll have a nice big cage thanks to you!
It so horrifying thinking in 2020 cages we used in 90's/00's are still a thing. My first cage around 20 years ago so triggering lol She was a rescue golden syrian hamster called Hammy. All of my hamsters been rescues/adopted. I remember reading they need bigger wheels so she actually had a rat wheel in a tall cage. I also remember reading about cotton bedding being bad. I remember wanting a critter trail style cage instead as I assumed these were better but pet store said not worth money. She actually got a nasal tumour no doubt from the pine shaves bedding! This was in like 1998-1999-2000 time You sound like me. I would buy cages/tanks for my birds and fish. Decide didn't like em. Get another. Decide didn't like em. haha Just done same. I had the Falco 80 from Zooplus for two gerbils. Haven't liked it since I got it so just purchased the Falco 100 from Zooplus instead.
I know this’ll most likely drown in the sea of comments, but as a twelve year old now, I’ve done so much research. I feel as if I’m beyond prepared to get a hamster once again. I’ve learned so much, and after this pandemic is over, I’m getting a new hamster! I’m getting two 50 gallon bins and connecting them to make a cage of over 1,500 square inches. I’m very exited, and am glad to have a great restart to hamster care at a young age. Videos from amazing channels like these are what have helped me learn what I should’ve been doing when I got my first Syrian hamster when I was around 9-10 years old. 💕
15:48 AND IM SO HAPPY, BECAUSE updating my hamster's cage from a cage like you've had first to a cage you have currently took me only 3 weeks, and its all because of your channel! You just fixed another hamster's life, congrats!

It’s weird watching this near the end of 2020 as at the end she says “I hope 2020 will be a good year” having no clue what’s in store 😂 Also I love this video and your channel
Me and my partner just got our first hamster without doing any research on it... After watching a few of your videos I made a list of things to get so that I can actually take care of it. The people at petco said that it was a good cage for them but its one of the critter cages and thought it would be okay but now I just feel bad. I am on a mission to get everything to make him happy, Thank you so much
When I go to a pet store and look at the cages and I’m looking and I’m like what? How can a hamster even take a step in this and why is the world still selling these when I thought we would have learned our lesson? 🤔 anyways definitely agree with your hamster care thank you it’s helped me so so so much.
I started watching your videos a couple of days ago while my hamster was in care for an eye infection. Holy cow I didn't realize how many mistakes I had made! I went out the very next day and went on a shopping spree for my little Mokona. She's now back home in a much larger enclosure with much more of the appropriate bedding, and much more enrichment.
This video made me feel a lot better about myself. I own ferrets, not hamsters, and in the last few months I've learned about their care that I didn't know before. I beat myself up about my mistakes a lot, so it's really nice to hear someone who has similar experiences be able to forgive themselves like I want to be able to.
LOL thats when happened to my guinea pig a while back before my dads friend wanted him the pet peeps looked and said it was a girl when i got home i checked and nope it had a tiny wee wee i even named him rosa but now his name is elix idk if the dude changed his name btw he had a giant cage and i fed him oxbow not the sunburst crap because hamsters need sunburst and guineas dont
I just want to thank you Victoria, yesterday I realised my poor Russian Dwarf actually has a small cage and possibly is not very happy with it. So I started watching you since I watched you when I first got my hamster. I talked it through with my parents about getting an aquarium and luckily they agreed, I am now binge watching almost all your videos to improve my hamsters life. Thank you for changing how I see my Hamsters life!
Thanks to your 11 years of learning it took me only a year to reach my peak of hamster care 🥰🐹🐹 thank u so much for helping me give my hamster buttercup an amazing life!,
you have improved my hamsters life and health by giving me all this info! pickles lived in a ' medium ' 🙄 pets at home cage which i thought was so good. then i began watching you and realised i was doing it all wrong, now he lives in a alexander cage with the right size wheel and alot of enrichment💖
Honestly props to your parents for being so understanding and supportive (helping you build the cages etc) because a lot of parents would not be or even controlling about their kids money and not let them buy a new cage. Its super sweet to hear that they were so understanding
So happy that my first hamsters cage is 461 square inches and I’m upgrading to 1070 sq soon ! 😁 I researched for 2 months before finally purchasing the hamster and my care has improved so much since then !
11:24 i totally understand what you mean at this time, in fact, i had 5 betta fishes and 3 died in less than 8 months (live around 4 years) and all my friend strat calling me a fish murderer just like you, i bother all my family and go on blog to search for an explain and they told me i don't change enough water for the first, next my tank was damn, next i change too much water, it was hell, everybody told me i take too much care of my fishes, so now i have 2 betta fishes in small tanks even if every body tell me it's bad, other people have worst and their fish live well so i put lot of plants, i change water when i feel i have to and i just leave them live their live, now i envisage adopt a hamster and i'm lost between stereotypes and all, so thank you (sorry for my bad english, i'm french and i love your channel, i understand well because of the subtitles and you help me in english, and more of all you give good advices, more than every french youtubers i've seen, continue please :3)
Just because other peoples care is worse and their fish are "still alive" doesn't mean the fish are happy or that it's okay for you to be lazy when taking care of them. You shouldn't own fish if you can't take care of them period. I hope you never got a hamster because you would make it suffer like your fish did.
Its a great day today! 1. give your hamsters a lot of treats(HEALTHY TREATS c: ) 2. Pet them (ONLY IF THEY LIKE IT!) 3. watch Victoria Raechel for 3 hours straight! (That might just be me) Lmao
I love how you go back and talk about mistakes you made when you first started talking care of your hamster(s). Not many people are comfortable talking about this kind of thing, (including myself, lol!) but you did it anyway. That says a lot of good things about you. Great job, keep up the hard work!!

Hello!! I don’t know if you remember me ;-;. I’m the one who told you about the savage hamster pickles. I think that’s what I commented. Well here I am now! I have a new hamster. (Again) well the reason why I got him was gotta be um 😐. We were in the province (still now) and my mom picked up our laundry. Next to the laundry, was a pet shop! I think you all-ready know how this goes, my mom told me to see what kind of animals was in there, because it’s been a long time since I’ve visited it. We saw a lot of dwarf hamsters... then I looked in the corner to see two BOOtIfUl Syrian hamsters.... one was grey and white.. and the other one was a beautiful, kind of peachy white colour? The lady told us that the grey one was allready bought. And so we bought the other Syrian hamster... we got him/her everything it needs. The other funny thing was that the money we spent on caramel (the new family member òwó) was supposed to be gas for our car... so ye. The reason why i didn’t watch your videos and being consistent. Was because I haven’t had a hamster for a long timeeee. Caramel is a beautiful and healthy hammy :3 . Wow, I never realised how much I wrote ;-;
@@someone-cm2xt my mom used to tell me to work for it and I didn't even get it 😂😂 now I'm working and she abandoned me so I can get whatever I want now, I even got a hamster lol
" Still wasn't happy because I'm not ever happy apparently" yesssss, good to know I'm not the only one who is only happy with my hamster's new toys and cages for a while before I decide to buy them new ones XD
I'm so happy to see hamster care has come such a long way. I had hamsters between 1988 and 1994 and back then there was nothing on their care outside of trusting what the old man at the feed store would tell us, and he pushed the Habitrail plastic cages on us. I'm sad that Fuzzy, Bob and Frisk didn't have the appropriate space, but I'm really happy that now there is so much out there for people to research and see what these little furry friends need for proper care. I've only been randomly suggested your videos lately and haven't had hamsters in almost 30 years, but I appreciate your videos and your educational tips.
You have certainly come a long way as a hamster Mom 🐹💙 Thank you for taking good care of your babies. I really appreciate your time and effort in making educational and entertaining videos. Happy New Year.
I’m so happy because I’m getting my first hamster and we are gonna get the 55-gallon tank with the 10 inch wheel and this what I’m doing(correct me if I’m wrong): 1: At least 6 inches of bedding for the hamster to burrow 2. Large enough cage(bare minimum: 450 sq inches) 3. Safe bedding: Aspen shavings, KAYTEE clean and cozy, Carefresh, Timothy Hay, etc. (DO NOT use pine and cedar wood shavings!) 4: 6.5 for Robo’s and dwarfs. 8-12 for Syrians and other large hamsters 5: Do not house them together! They are solitary! It doesn’t matter what breed. 6: Don’t use wire or mesh wheels! They will cause bumble foot and other infections. 7: Lots of chews and hideouts to help them burrow and keep their teeth at a good length! 8: Make sure they have a good diet and all of the ingredients are healthy and they are getting all of the nutrients they need 9: Do NOT bathe a hamster in water! Always use sand bath and do not use dust. That’s the basics that I have learned ^^ of course I know way more than that but that’s pretty much like what every hamster owner should know! I’m so excited! I hope my hamster has the best life possible. I’m gonna name it Meliodas if it’s a boy and Elizabeth if it’s a girl. Idk if you see the anime reference lol 😂 I’m so excited!!
Nice name I get the reference too I’m excited for my hamster I’m getting him next week!! If they are a girl I’m going to name her honey or nutmeg and if it’s a boy Albert or Billybobbybrown
.yva no. Do not house hamsters together. They will die if they fight. I’m not explaining because you are stupid. I’m sorry for being harsh but stop housing solitary animals together
The 2 dislikes are the people who saw you used bad stuff for your hamsters. But they themselves, probably did it too. It’s good that you changed your mistakes almost immediately! 🐹
You should feel so proud of yourself. It’s not dramatic to say you’re changing the world with your knowledge and heart. Thanks for being tenacious in finding out more and more and for sharing what you learn with everyone else ❤️ I’m a better hamster mom because of you.
People need to understand that we've all started with mistakes. Petco and many other pet shops don't usually educate you on how to properly care for your pet. They tell you put it in this, feed it this, and it'll be just "fine". I adopted a gerbil from a rescue league who came with a plastic/bar cage. The only bedding she had was wood chips and her diet was some mixed fatty seeds. (That's all what she had with her when I adopted her) I started doing research and alot of it was actually FALSE. From the bedding to the size of the cage and it didn't even mention that plastic was bad for them!! The enclosure had a bunch of plastic accessories and that was the first thing I removed. The 2nd was the bathing dust.. I didn't change it to sand for a few weeks until I stumbled upon a video saying that bathing dust is really bad for their lungs. The 3rd was finally filling her cage with a bunch of Kaytee bedding and avoiding wood shavings. AND just recently I've finally made a bin cage for her, waaaay bigger than her other cage and she actually comes out of hiding when I pop open her lid to say hi. There's still alot more that I want to improve so that her life is as comfortable and fulfilled. TL;DR - no one is perfect. people make mistakes and we learn from them.

I went to petsmart today and the hamster section looks like a toy isle ...

They make it seem like hamsters are “toys for kids” and it’s so frustrating trying to explain to people why they need to upgrade🙄

If u didn’t have the money why have a hamster?
@@chxleae5906 they may not have known at first. That's the point of these videos!! They are to help people learn and grow. If you aren't fully informed on this person's stance, why reply with criticism at all? Best we can do is try and make it better.
I'm sure your hamster is grateful
Maybe use a bin cage? It only costed me around $30 and I think I had about 500-600 square inches
Edit: I found a pin that is 819 square inches on target for $22!!
It's true , no one is ever going to be perfect....the most important thing is that we all learn from our mistakes💚💛

That's great progress!
I've had a robo for 2 months and they just started to walk on my hand
U have taught me so much about hamsters and i wanna show my mom these videos so she could understand more about them.

She was a rescue golden syrian hamster called Hammy. This was in like 1998-1999-2000 time
You sound like me.

Hello!! I don’t know if you remember me ;-;. I’m the one who told you about the savage hamster pickles. I think that’s what I commented. Well here I am now! I have a new hamster. (Again) well the reason why I got him was gotta be um 😐. We were in the province (still now) and my mom picked up our laundry. Next to the laundry, was a pet shop! I think you all-ready know how this goes, my mom told me to see what kind of animals was in there, because it’s been a long time since I’ve visited it. We saw a lot of dwarf hamsters... then I looked in the corner to see two BOOtIfUl Syrian hamsters.... one was grey and white.. and the other one was a beautiful, kind of peachy white colour? The lady told us that the grey one was allready bought. And so we bought the other Syrian hamster... we got him/her everything it needs. The other funny thing was that the money we spent on caramel (the new family member òwó) was supposed to be gas for our car... so ye.
The reason why i didn’t watch your videos and being consistent. Was because I haven’t had a hamster for a long timeeee. Caramel is a beautiful and healthy hammy :3 . Wow, I never realised how much I wrote ;-;

You have certainly come a long way as a hamster Mom 🐹💙

Thank you so much! Happy new year to you too! 🎉
I’m so happy because I’m getting my first hamster and we are gonna get the 55-gallon tank with the 10 inch wheel and this what I’m doing(correct me if I’m wrong):
1: At least 6 inches of bedding for the hamster to burrow
2. Large enough cage(bare minimum: 450 sq inches)
3. Safe bedding: Aspen shavings, KAYTEE clean and cozy, Carefresh, Timothy Hay, etc. (DO NOT use pine and cedar wood shavings!)
4: 6.5 for Robo’s and dwarfs. 8-12 for Syrians and other large hamsters
5: Do not house them together! They are solitary! It doesn’t matter what breed.
6: Don’t use wire or mesh wheels! They will cause bumble foot and other infections.
7: Lots of chews and hideouts to help them burrow and keep their teeth at a good length!
8: Make sure they have a good diet and all of the ingredients are healthy and they are getting all of the nutrients they need
9: Do NOT bathe a hamster in water!
Idk if you see the anime reference lol 😂 I’m so excited!!

Thank you!
Did you get the gerbil a bud?
