- Very interesting to play about with the Honda E's HDMI port, of course you can also plug games consoles etc into it, perhaps we should try that....hmmm...maybe in another video!

This is great, Ian! I've been following you since you first got your Leaf and over this time I've been both entertained and informed by you. Thank you for all of your time and effort!
Thanks for your kind words!
Thanx this helped me decide even more why i should buy a Honda~E especially when u have Kidz that need Entertaining….lol 👩🏽⚕️✌🏾
Very smart tech on that car.
Yeah its packed full!
So you could buy a portable kettle and cups for cups of tea and coffee while charging 🤔
Absolutely, plan on doing just that! Yum yum
I'm going to try that in my Nissan qashqai you learn something new everyday 👍🏿
Good idea!
Merry Christmas Bruse and family,,🎄🤣
Thanks, you too!
Jesus the sterio sound on that is good especially when you're wearing headphones. Ian can you hardwire a decent dash cam to it and show us how it's done.
I am hoping there is some form of app that comes along that can be installed - to make use of all the cameras - theres loads of them!
Great video thanks love the Honda e pitty about the range . But be fun with all the charging you gonna do .
Yeah its a lovely car to drive.
Seriously considered a Honda e when little was known about them. If it had been 150 miles range and split fold rear seat I'd have got one no question. Still think its a cool car though. Oh and when did the cigarette lighter become the 12v? Must be getting old.
I wish they would open up the 35.5kwh thats in this little beast! Instead we are at restricted 28.5kwh. I am really impressed with it.
If you are using your phone for the data, why not just use HDMI out cable on your phone? It works a treat, the sound from the HDMI is really good.
Couple of reasons:
1. It can be removed from the car and plugged into a Hotel TV / B&B etc (which can then connect to their wifi - i.e. its adaptable as a stand alone device with its own wifi receiver
2. It can be plugged into the car and ANY mobile (not just with a iphone connection) and tether to it to allow a connection. Meaning my phone doesnt have to be left in the car if a passenger is left in there watching something.
But there would be no harm in also getting a iphone specific connector!
Great Ian I use Roku at home. I watch ev video while I am doing laundry at the public washers and when I charge
Awesome. You have it plugged into your car and in your phone?
I get to do that most times I fast charge. Netflix and RUclips are good for killing time whilst charging up.
Good to have the option right!
Those screens look a bit small for watching video comfortably. :) The 3 pin socket is a nice addition though even if it steals precious range.
It’s actually not bad at all in person - quite an experience.
No really to say people watch videos on their phoe
Ne which is smaller lol. Bit a of a stupid reply you have there
Hi Ian,
Interesting.
I can imagine the Roku inter-connectivity facility being useful if you were stuck in a supermarket car park or waiting for a vehicle rescue service, or similar situation.
However, travelling 50,000 miles should reveal much more interesting uses (?).
Yeah interested to see what develops. Was thinking of a small PC / Mac Mini plugged in, and then us the screen. But of course then you need to have a keyboard and mouse to edit with....and ultimately the screen will be too small for that use. But there will be other things!
Hi Ian we must live fairly near each other I'm in Hardwicke near Gloucester. Umm you know what I am seriously thinking of cancelling my order for an id3, which on the surface may seem mad except after 14 months of real road time I have friends still getting lots of problems with the software which seems to be a major issue on that car which is now putting me off. So I'm going to have a chat with my Local Honda dealer which I'm not sure where that is yet and I may cancel the id3 which is not going to be ready til April so they won't even be building mine yet.
Thx 4 your channel it's excellent maybe if I get one I could come on a couple of your visit every Honda Dealer challenge.
WiFi isn't showing up in the honda e, however mine is working no's any fix? She has a S10+ I have a Sony xperia
Can you show the aquarium you and your wife was talking about?
A little story about our fish.....well when I connected MY account (after newly creating it), the system booted down and when it returned...the fish were all dead (well, more accurately - no longer there).
@@IanSampsonRLO I had the same issue when I collected the car, no aquarium. Turns out that a data reset removes the App. Just required tethering to my phone, opening My Honda Apps and downloading again. Fish are now going swimmingly!🐠🐡
@@sib4897 My Honda App within the car? (I get a connection error when opening the one in the car)
I have a roku stick, need a Honda e
Ha ha true!
Interresting ! ! ! Can you scale up picture so it fit entire screen ? perfect for movies in 21:9 format
Can only be displayed on 1 screen at a time, left had screen displays largest (when you set it up to do so)
I see you use an iPhone user so I'm not sure how it would work, but I would use a Google Chromecast instead of a Roku as the new one not only has a remote but also it would allow you to download Netflix content to your phone's app on your home's WiFi then stream it from your phone to the Chromecast without consuming your phone's data. Just a tip/idea! :)
David, yeah I look at that but was concerned if it would have limited compatibility with an apple OS. My first port of call was the Apple TV, but that requires the use of the 3 pin 240v plug, and it was a bit too bulky. With the Roku its a stand alone unit (for example - this might be needed if it is ME that goes off when someone is in the car....and of course my phone would go with me, killing the network - mind you if this was MY usage case I would have to subscribe to the Honda wifi point data subscription).
Awesome!
Thank you! Cheers!
Cinema on wheels, not a drive thru but an in-drive.
ha ha pretty much!
I do this in my honda civic, it's not electric of course, I do wonder if I'm draining the battery on my lunch periods lol but so far no issues!
Does your civic have an HDMI port?
Brilliant
Cheers!
Agreed - very impressive. I am wondering why you did not just go mobile phone to HDMI? Saves all that remote hassle and hiding the Roku under the dash....
Not sure, but I think some streaming services might not allow screen mirroring from a phone via HDMI.
@@Will-dq4vh Roku are not clear on your options, but an HDMI gives so many more options. You can play downloaded content so save your data allowance.

Have you been able to use the car settings to stretch the picture so it displays in full screen ?
No, not possible sadly.
@@IanSampsonRLOWhat happens if you change the setting to stretch or crop ?
If you're coming to Sheffield on your please let meet you
Cool
It is!
Id love you to try and do a 24 hours living in my honda E it would be amazing
There's a guy called Travis Heinz living in his ford focus for the last 8 years. RUclips him.
Or better still use a £20 Chromecast and use your phone for navigation of apps... Actually, all new cars should come with a HDMI input!
Only if you want to use the same phone. The roku is a stand alone device that doesn’t need to be cast to, so all the services such as apple tv+ are native, it just needs an internet connection - which can be from the cars hotspot, or anyones mobile device (meaning I can go off with someone sat in the car and take my phone..but they still have access to all the apps)
It's kind of pointless since you can get a bigger screen on your phone. When I say bigger, it's a little smaller but you can hold it up to your face.
Yeah if you have a phone you could watch it on a phone...you could also do that in the living room as well.
Some cars have Netflix built in 😎👍
They do! This has a HDMI port to allow any connection - so XBOX, Playstation, Wii, tablet, phone etc etc etc, world your oyster in terms of connections.
BENCH!
👍
