Come on then, what do you make of the all-electric Honda E? With 99% of journeys in the UK under 100 miles, is it a car that's 99% suitable to our lives?
Making the car hybrid would have made more sensible
At £15000 yes but not at £26000
Once someone comes up with an electric car that can do between 400-500 miles on a single charge them more people will be willing to pay £30000 for it.
@Michael Madden why don’t people like you read the question first before commenting,
Ok so do tell me what Tesla costs £26000 and can do 400-500 miles on a charge dummy, come on you seem to think they can....
I get the majority of the time your journey with be under 100 miles but knowing that if you wanted to go on a day out or away somewhere that you wouldn't be able to take your 30k car unless you wanted to stop and charge it up for 30 mins just seems a rip off. If it was less than 20k o think it would sell but not at 30k. Can by a 3 year old M2 for that!
That interior is literally next level. Well done Honda!

It's VERY redolent of the Rover SD1.
The comparison between Toyota and Honda pretty much explains what happened to the NSX and what happened to the Supra. Brilliant!
All previous and current CEO of Honda are engineers so tells you alot of the companies outlook on cars. If only the NSX was more competively priced, we would see alot more of them!
@@iniester6724 Absolutely!! Great reply man
We couldn’t have done it without your expert services. I am very appreciative of your effort, and i look forward to continuing to work together with you Mr. Hamilton
That was a great video, really insightful. allow me to use this same space to recognize Mr. Hamilton as the single most dedicated trader I ever met. Just a couple of weeks ago, I was referred, as I had been seeing people testifying about the good he has been doing for traders. I gave it a shot and today, my first payment came through, along with his weekly lecture. It’s still a marvel to me how he was able to make $8000 in 7 days with a $1000 initial deposit, the MAN is a genius. I guess this is the epic start to a new chapter in my life. I just feel like more people should be made aware of this opportunity. feel free to contact Mr. Hamilton for assistance, he's a real heaven sent. Contact his WhatsApp + 1 9 7 3 5 2 4 6 6 9 2

Perfect car for the weekly commute. I'll keep a Dino guzzler for the weekends.
They really need to bring out something more similar to the concept as the gen two car.
This as a commuter, an E63S as a family road trip car, a lotus exige as a track/weekend car... daaaaamn
Agreed. This is an opportunity for Honda on two fronts. Restyle the car to look more like the concept and improve their battery technology.
My old motorbike had a range of around 120 miles, it lasted a few days between fill ups with daily commuting. The idea of starting the day with a full 130 mile range every morning is pretty good
It's fine for most daily commutes but there's always that once a fortnight unforeseen journey for work or in your personal life that will be made 100 times more stressful if your car only has a 130 mile range and takes 6 hours to charge - and how many people can afford a second car to combat this? Not many when this thing costs 30k on its own. I love the idea and look of it (although the concept was much cooler imo), and would love to own one, but the range and charge time would make so much of life's little complications so much more difficult.
@@rhidiandavies1991 These "cheaper" EVs only really make sense for people living in or around large cities. I certainly couldn't afford one, but then again the everyman couldn't afford a car years ago and miners just used motorbikes for their family transport.
This is still early days, let those who can afford them fund the research and development for electric equivalent of the Mini and the necessary infrastructure to support it. By then the cost of the batteries will have decreased and the technology will be further developed as well
@@twpsyn I use to feel the same way about the range anxiety but remembered when I would ride a motorcycle around with it's shorter range. Turns out, monitoring my driving distance, I never require more than about 70 km of driving distance in a day. I wouldn't know what to do with all that extra capacity especially since I can charge at home. If on the off chance I need to travel farther outside the city and charging isn't available on the route from some reason I'll just get an Uber or rental car.
@@rhidiandavies1991 The Honda E takes about 30 min to recharge from a rapid charger commonly found in motorway services or supermarket car parks. It will take 5hrs to charge at home
Legitimately one of the most attractive cars i've seen in years.

I'm glad Honda have tried to make an EV look interesting and a bit different, the model 3 makes me want to fall asleep when I see one 😴
Tesla styled by no-one.
This feels like a reverse Tesla. Lacks the battery size/range in exchange for better quality and styling. And being a Honda, it'll be way more reliable.
Teslas look boring in the images but they're so much worse in the metal. They're just massive high riding lumps and look like kia's from 10-15 years ago.
@Gary Pastorchik no, but i tried forcing an unexpected reboot 🤓

My terrible fear is that sales will not be good enough to justify a round 2 to see future gen with a better range
It's a terrible fear. They will make an iteration of this far far into the future. Watch.
Sales were forecasted to be poor before the pandemic, I can only imagine how bad they are now
onetopbbloveyou.linK
Have the same fear, so buy now and it will become modern classic real soon.
@@stevedwrd I don't agree with the 200 mile range. By the time Honda comes out with a new long range battery every Tesla will do 400 miles of range at a cheaper price. Honda must reach beyond their comfort zone. Even Chris said that if the Honda E had 280 miles of range today, now, it would be a game changer.
"Toyota is run by accountants, Honda by engineers" - Very well said, particularly when you think about what the new Supra's materialised out to be...
But have you seen the GR Yaris! WOW
@@kowosky I know, I’m conflicted. Why make such a roaring effort with the Yaris but then rummage around in BMW’s parts bin for the Supra! (Yes I’m being facetious here)
@@NN-ug8ll Toyota is a very strange company to be fair. Who would have predicted the original Supra or this Yaris. Honda has always had more expectation placed upon it. This Honda has been a return to form.
@@kowosky Well I think Honda has a clearer philosophy towards performance - all of the Type Rs are light, small engined, high revving, great handling, fantastic feeling cars, hence the expectation. Toyota’s best hits may be all very good in their own right, but they certainly don’t seem to be underpinned by a common line of thought...
I think that's the main reason why the A90 Supra was developed such that it is a BMW Z4 underneath, but do you also think that if Toyota had not done that and make a new chasis and performance 6-cylinder engine from scratch, we would have the Supra much later and at a price that will make us all go "for a Toyota? No way."
I love it. Want one, in white.

lol honda civic gang
@@bullshitdepartment lol never owned a Honda but they "NEVER" come into my garage broken down.
He’s definitely right about Toyota nearly
ALL their cars now are boring hybrid runabouts that are almost identical, and the interiors are just shockingly cheap and nasty. I honestly don’t see the point of a Corolla/Yaris Hybrid when you can have the Prius.
Really. Cool car. This must be promoted by Mr. Bean. Same color. Cool
Absolutely. Look at old civics from 88 to 00
Double wishbones in the front and independent rear suspension. Unique in its class. Also full Aluminium engines with 16 valves back then.
What where for example the germans doing in this class back then? Heavy iron lumps with 8 valves, cheap mc pherson struts and even cheaper torsion beam or solid beams in the back. Plus, no variable valve timing.
So yeah Honda allways had an Engineering spirit about it. Starting all the way back with the first car they put on sale the honda s500/s600. They allways had a special focus on egineering. The civic cvcc, the 1300 Coupe, the s800, the Prelude, the insight, the NSX, the integra Type R, the civic Type R EK9 and so on.
What are you talking about?
Volkswagen had 5 valve per cylinder engines back in the day. Wasn't all that reliable (to be honest) but from a engineering stand point they where right at it back in the 90s and 00s. And all in all it did work as many 1.8T 20V are abused by making twice the intended HP figures (sometimes even more).
BMW had VANOS since the BMW M50 (1990-96), Porsche VarioCAM since the 90s as well.
The base Civic 1.3 was a carburated SOHC engine back then. If you're comparing top of the line engines keep the facts straight at least.
I respect Honda btw. don't get me wrong.
@@stephanvelines7006 yeah the first vag 20v was like 1996. Toyota also had a 20v at that time btw. The first 5 Valve came from Ferrari. Vanos came 92 Vtec 89. True the early 90s Base civic was a 1.3 electronicly controlled carb. But still full aluminium engine, still 16 valves, still double wishbones, still independent rear.
This is the ideal car for Singapore
not enough charging points anywhere to work. Would be good otherwise
In Singapore with COE this car would cost a fortune
In Singapore, the car would be horrendously expensive and therefore unappealing to most. Singapore as a city is a wonderful candidate for an all electric road network but the infrastructure is very weak and the costs to buy a car are just too high, our government is drunk on excessive motor vehicle taxes and can never give them up

ruclips.net/video/IcNnXb7A5q42/видео.html
Most urban drivers (certainly in London anyway) don’t have access to off-street parking at home, so that short range becomes a real issue. If you can’t easily charge at home, that low range becomes hugely inconvenient and a drain on your time.
Excellent point.
Not everyone can pull into a garage and charge it at night. It's limited range is going to kill plenty of sales.
Just like there are services now to get the kerb outside your home lowered and you front garden converted into a driveway, there'll likely be similar services where they'll install a charging pillar or plate at your kerbside.
@@mikeward1701 Neither landlords or renters will want to pay that pricey bill. Especially when vehicles in parking spaces can and do change with leases expiring.
@@roaddog7542 As electric vehicles become more popular and prevalent, being able to charge your vehicle will be a priority for prospective tenants, so landlords will have to pony up at some point. It's a question of whether they do it preemptively to be forward thinking and steal a march on their competition, or reactively in response to it.
onetopbbloveyou.linK
130 mile range means it’s great for a daily and terrible for anything else. So I suspect most buyers will own a second car as well for long range but just want this for getting around town. The concept looked sooooo good too, oh well, it’s still kinda cute 😂
0:28 Hit the nail on the head with the styling of the production car vs the prototype. I was hoping this car would be my first eV... until I saw the production version. The prototype seemed to take cues from the cool Peugeot 205GTi
I agree with your comparison with 205. In my head I thought it similar, until I compared photos. I love 3dr cars, but I compromised an ordered an e - reserved May 19. No regrets. It's quicker than stats imply. And although I was never a fan of automatics, I don't miss gears, clutch or even brakes. One Pedal mode with AutoBrake is amazing! When I occasionally drive my wife's Audi A1, I keep having to use the brake pedal! Seems very strange/old tech. This is the future. And no, it is not that expensive for what you get.
His shoes match the car
Those Asics are cool anyone know the name?
He is spot on about Apple.
Honda CVCC throwback😔❤😭😭
Love ours! Just did a vid with the traction control off...man oh man this thing is fun to drive! Well done Honda!
I urge the doubters to go and test drive one. I did a few weeks ago and now I really, really want one!
I ordered based on looks and spec, way ahead of getting a Test Drive. That just puts a big smile on your face. I had high expectations, and was not disappointed. It is great to drive. And range is not the issue everyone worries over. Just start counting the number of 'free to use' Charge Points there are @tesco @asda and Council Car Parks
You gentlemen are killin' it on TOP GEAR . Absolutely love the chemistry and honesty
be better if jeremy c and the rest were doing it
It's nice to see Honda and ASICS collaborating.
the future versions of this, I will definitely buy!
If it was $30k USD, I'd order one right now. What a beautiful little vehicle. Perfect commuter and beep beep car.
I wish it was coming to the states. perfect to and from work car for me! would love to own one.
The same with a thermic motor will be cool too ! The interior is fantastic , exterior too.
I recently had a go in one and I loved it. It feels very Japanese and oozes authentic old school Honda!
Prototype looked so good!
That interior is the best thing to happen to Design in ages, and is a link I often forward to ANY slightly design related topic on this RUclips platform. Might switch it up to hotmail.
Let's take a moment to applaud Chris for matching his shoes with the car's colour 👍.
I love the design. It looks so good in the right colour
Driven one and it's actually a nice little car and the interior is a great place to sit. Would be a nice car to own for town driving but would still keep my Type R for the b-roads and open roads for a more exciting drive.
I can’t believe we actually wait another year for the next season 😭
Seriously the interior on this thing is a masterpiece
The nice modern interior will make you feel at home 🏘️ no matter where you go. Really need to see the experience for myself maybe a test drive.
It is much bigger than it looked in the concept car ! For me it would have been brilliant if it was about the size or even slightly bigger than the original mini !
Guys that was the best review , 4 minutes on exactly what people want to know without the added crap.
I agree if this car claimed 250 miles it would be hands down a no brainer, but for now 130 miles ( actual 105) is scary lo.
Thanks for your views
Honestly, after driving an E-UP with less than half the range of this - I’m definitely loving what Honda has done with this car. It has more than double the range, and the better suspension and much better built car is an absolute joy. I hate small cars and especially EV’s, you’re always being constantly reminded of what’s been saved on, either bodywork, insulation, interior etc. But for this car, you feel like you’re driving a normal, well built and safe car.
I don’t understand why everyone is bashing it’s range.
Someone told me I’d should rather get a Zoe with the increased range. Have you driven one? It’s like it’s constantly draining your life force. Not only that - it got ZERO stars in the last NCAP test. ZERO!!!
Appreciate the Honda for what it is. 200km of driving wherever you want, then charge and continue 🤷♂️
I saw one of these Honda’s the other day in Southport. So someone took the plunge and bought one.
Love the apple analogy he made. It sums it up perfectly, the only thing it’s missing is a proprietary charging cable haha
is possible aftermarket like engine tune company modifi or put more battery in it,make it longer range?
Despite its faults, I love this car. Probably a future collector.
I've got an e46 m3 and I want this little honda E so bad !!
Honest, fair, knowledgeable. Best Top Gear host ever.
A good host? Yes. Best? Absolutely not.
Chris harris and Jack Rix discussing cars is a win.
This would be cool to do a Kswap on.
That is amazing looking!
I'm more of tech guy than a car guy an Chris Harris was on point with apple. Shows he's a real critic and not just for cars.
@Honda - bring this to the USA
This car looks so cool
I really wish this was available in the states...
It doesn't have a bed, It can't tow 900 tons. No V8. They would sell like 5 of these in the US.
This car would make a good collectible one day. It will be pretty rare since there won't be too many out there but with it's mix of digital , analog and retro style elements it will be distinctive and quirky enough to make it very desirable.
Low key looks like a New gen of the MK1/MK2 City Golf
They probably had to solve some weird problem with the rear suspension. Maybe they can add to the battery next run. They really need inductive street charging to get e cars to catch on.
Actually, its rear wheel drive
They need to make a "Long range" version of this then I see it being worthwhile, still cool however

if i could afford one, hell yea, would want one
U must see honda civic 2nd generation
Make the design closer to the concept and increase the range to 200-250 and they have a banger.
$20G I'd consider. Counting you can get a used certified low mileage leaf for less than 15 in the states, that's a tough sell.
I don't agree with the opinion on the car, but Chris is bang on the money on priorities at Honda v Toyota
Love it! so cool and quirky
130 miles brand new, but how far will it go as the years add on
It's so cute I love it
That concept looks like a 80s hot hatch, superb. Very 205 gti-y
Harris is like the Oracle of the car world, we humbly come to him to hear his truth about all things on wheels. Your word is law Harrisboy
Dear BBC, you need to give Chris his own show.
So now it’s winter, heating on, demister, lights etc. What’s the range then?
As far as the subaru garage for a trade in.
Is a good follow-up because I think I'm sorry the TV presentation of this was a let down he was driving it round country Roads which its not designed for and as for the fun park guess it was funny but this car is so much nicer than the other two you compared it with. As you said the looks alone you drive this around the city and everyone looks at it one drive past me on a roundabout and I nearly crashed my car because I was so happy to see it I want to run up to it and hug it, good point about Honda and Toyota because I don't think Honda would be silly enough to put a BMW engine in one of the cars.👍
This feels like a more feature rich Leaf. Hopefully with better battery technology. 130mi is plenty for every city commuter and city driver here in the states.
A few more charging stations and its the perfect car for kl and singapore
Malaysia
Truly asia
id buy one if it comes to Australia
what about the fiat 500e? only thing that can compete with this styling-wise
Lovely little car, Honda is just wetting their feet with this car, they need a full on electric fleet or at least a car and SUV
I want one but don't want to sit in it waiting for it to charge most public chargers are no where near 30 mins.
Its great to see that they still try to make electric cars exciting.
As a commuter car it's brill. So what if the range is 130miles. My Mrs drive 6 miles to work and 6 back on rural roads & then a 4 miles drive to Sainsbury's. One full charge would last her a week on a cold winters week. I would love her to sell her 1onwer low mileage Honda Cr-z but she won't. I wonder if those prototype wheels are available from anywhere?
This Top Gear is so lit that they dont even drive it on 4 minute long video.
I have hated Honda vehicles for the last ten years or so, but I adore this thing. I can’t buy an electric car that does less than 300 miles on a charge because I drive 200 miles between my and my mom’s house every week (even in subzero weather) but I do really love the look of it.
It’s perhaps not the best but it is ideal for a lot of people in a LOT of countries
I Wld love to have this car. Range wise isn’t a problem.
This looks like the grand son of a Honda City Turbo or a Today.
I would really like one but 30.000gbp for a car I can't really take anywhere outside the city (at least unless there's a plug waiting for me at my destination) is too much. I am not a rich man, if I pay that much it would be for my everyday car, weekend included. I can't pay 30.000gbp for a car that basically can only take me to work and back or at most to the next big city and back (barely). If it had maybe 100 miles more of range, then hell yeah.
The issue with range is spot on. This car would fare so much better with more range. Doesn't make sense to shell out that amount of cash when there are options such as the Peugeot e-208 which has over 300km of range for a similar price. So this Honda becomes more of a niche than anything else, where you have to love the design more than the practicality.
Making the car hybrid would have made more sensible
Right?! They already have the crz.
What gets me is all these cars are coming out with more and more elaborate touchscreens. Touch here ,swipe across, swipe up,swipe down etc. Just to do basic heating or radio controls. Now you can watch a fishtank and feed them while driving.....but you get fined for using a touchscreen mobile phone!
I love this car but it's defo way too expensive. Cheaper, i would have though of changing car soon. But for now...i'm going to squeeze my Corsa until it can't move anymore ^^ Love my Opel Corsa!
No charging in sweden for this kind of short range, to bad it's a cool car! Also the big urban charging stations that does exist is all taken over by e-car rental/pool companys no chance getting a charge park there.
Good video, but yeah 130 miles of range isn't gonna cut it for me either, especially when I can get a Chevy Bolt with nearly twice that for just a little more money
This is Honda's Phaeton. (Wait, what ?!?!)
They don't expect to sell tens of millions of them but it's a statement of what they can do and is coming from their very own direction. Expect bigger stuff with longer range in the future, all made cooler by this having come first.
Oh that concept car....... 😍😍😍
Why did they change its design..... 😭😭😭
In ten years time (Maybe before?) They will have the " Honda E-R." That should be fun.
It's someones second car, along with their new Landrover Defender.IMHO. :)
Believe it or not Honda is actually not a car company but a technical research and manufacturing company which has a branch that makes vehicles. Toyota on the other hand is an automotive company.

Chris Harris you rule!
This is the perfect urban commuter car, the mileage is fine!
Doubt honda will see this but... Please please build a type r version of this car and sell it in the UK.
