  • We have been living in Mexico for almost two years now and Santiago de Queretaro was our home for over a year so we know Queretaro like the back of our hands. Although Queretaro was amazing, we decided it was time to move on to other cities in Mexico, so we can share what we learned with our valuable viewers. Our first experience came via Oaxaca City, but we soon realized that Oaxaca City wasn't for us (due to some unforeseen events that were out of our control). Make sure to watch our Oaxaca City video series showing neighborhoods, and a very detailed apartment tour. We left Oaxaca City and headed to the beach city of Mazatlan in the state of Sinaloa. Mazatlan was just what we needed in the short term, especially after our experience in Oaxaca. Even though Mazatlan was beautiful, we learned fairly quickly (after research/ groundwork), that Mazatlan couldn't be a long-term living option for us. We also have a series of videos showing you around Mazatlan, providing inside tips on the rental culture of the city, as well as sharing our personal reasons as to why we decided not to remain in Mazatlan long-term. Finally, the time has now come to share our new home base where we will be living long-term and sharing our day-to-day life/ insight with you.

    I'm sooooo stoked for y'all! I love that state so much. It seems like Aquascaliente is setting the example of positive things to come in Mexico. More jobs being created in auto manufacturing and tech. Multiple universities educating the future business leaders of the area. Clean streets, affordable housing for locals, incredible art scene...the state fair!!! Local companies paying a living wage, with benefits. A strong sustainable middle class. Not sure who is investing where, but it seems to be working. Enjoy your new home, you two! 🙏🙏🙏

      @@WhyNotNow Hey thanks for asking we have awesome memories from all the places we have visited, even Mexico City was cool. We took some local Mazatleco friends with us to help with the translating and cultural stuff. It was an awesome city but not for me to live just to visit. We loved Guanajuato so much, maybe our favourite but there are so many amazing places to see. Depends on your interests…. You have to see the butterfly’s in Michoacán, don’t forget Pátzcuaro. Smell the leather in Leon, tour a tequila ranch in Tequila or Mazatlán 😉. We started Vacationing in Puerto Vallarta and the surrounding towns thinking nothing in life could top that but then we discovered it was only a taste of Mexico. I think you have discovered that. I am enjoying your experience and excitement of what we enjoy too. I have only heard about Aquascalientes and look forward to you showing me around.

We watched as each couple went to the top of the stairs for their moment...it was lovely. 🌹 We also visited Leon (twice) and loved the city as well. So I am single and traveling alone. Tomorrow I will get on a plane out of New York heading to San Pancho Mexico by way of Puerto Valarta. If I’m honest I chose it because it looks like a sleepy little town and I’m a recent widower. I wasn’t up for the hustle and bustle I’m so familiar with ….I’ve been in Boston my whole life. I just wanted to say thanks for putting Aguascaliente on my list. I never heard of it. I’m staying for two weeks and if I love Mexico I will stay for 4 weeks my next visit, maybe eventually I will stay the winters. I love the genuine honesty and sincerity of your videos and I appreciate it. So many Others are just silly dreamers explaining how Mexico is marshmallows and Tra Lala Lala. It doesn’t give people like me an honest view of what it is like, and what to expect. I just wanted to say thanks and I look forward to seeing more of you beautiful town. Congratulations by the way happy anniversary😊

I didn't think you'd been to Hidalgo yet, as a lot of people don't, but it has such history, colonialism, lower cost of living, etc. but on a much smaller scale than Aguascalientes and is the capital of Hidalgo. I still think you should check out Pachuca (just for the heck of it in case you'd be drawn to a smaller capital) but I love Aguascalientes and they have the best feria in MX. So maybe staying in a hotel downtown would be a different feel. For us we would have to drive out far to if we went out to eat and there is not much variety. We think there is a lot of graffiti maybe less than Leon or Oaxaca city. It does get hot there. We are more beach people. Air quality wise we feel better. The moisture from the ocean is better on the sinus. We are from Southern California and have Airbnb’s in Rosarito Beach Baja California. So we are back and forth every other week with in 2 1/2 hrs. It has its pros and cons too. But if you like San Diego weather and love fresh sea food you can’t beat it there. Plus we fly out of the airport there inTJ about 4 Xs a year. So it’s convenient too.

    The pollution goes all the way from Monterey to Saltillo down a large mountain valley between two mountain ranges so it's bad in both places.
    I personally know this because I drive the highway between the two cities about eight times a year.

    Gotta tell you, I'm feeling seriously "displaced," right now. I was in Ajijic for some months, nice little town, great weather. Tourist 180 was almost up, time to go because an immigration attorney told me I couldn't do the amnesty program. Back to the US. No actual home there. Back to Ajijic, no affordable rentals. Where to next? I got it! Merida! Hot! Hot! Hot! 🥵 Weird rental requirements, crooked agents, owners, it's their market, they know it. Sitting in a friend's Airbnb in Mérida at the moment, trying to find elsewhere. ( I'm paying of course.) The coasts are at times too touristy, sometimes too hot. Bigger cities, polluted. Retirement/snowbird areas like Lake Chapala, expensive rentals and homes. Guys, I'm tired, I need to settle for a while, like you I miss that "home," feeling. Additional comment.... Trying to find the Centro area so I can check out Airbnbs, so where is it? 🤔 This might work for me but gotta get boots on the ground first, which means Airbnb.

    • @WhyNotNow
      @WhyNotNow  2 года назад

      That does sound like a lot Terry...😤 Are you seriously looking to find Centro? You should be able to pop whatever location you want into the search field. I didnt know Merida was like that in terms of rentals etc ..

    • @terrycavender
      @terrycavender 2 года назад

      @@WhyNotNow yes, serious. Merida is a nightmare! Say you find a cool place for the equivalent of $500 USD, sounds great, right? But, then comes the required double deposit, and the attorney fee, typically, the same amount as your rent. So, even before you move in, it's $2,000 up front. Oh, and there's the twelve months thing, most landlords want that, no six months, or month to month. None of the chirpy, "This is SO awesome!" RUclips channels ever mention those things. 🙄 They're like, "LOOK! We found this GREAT apartment for only $10,000 Pesos!"

    • @WhyNotNow
      @WhyNotNow  2 года назад +1

      @@terrycavender Unbelievable....that is disturbing. An attorney fee equivalent to a months rent..?? Required two month security deposit! What exactly are they calling this "few" and what is the purpose of it...? It sounds like big time "foreigner taxation". Plus, isnt that amount in rent already pretty good income for the landlords out there 🤔...a few years back, before the influx of people moving/ promoting the city, rents were going closer to 300 (USD comparison). for a decent place. 🙄 And they're doing the same as the real estate agents in Mazatlan are doing (we talked about that in couple of videos while in Mazatlan).

    • @terrycavender
      @terrycavender 2 года назад

      @@WhyNotNow ya I know! 🙄 I was told by a relocation service that they could get me something in the $300 to $500 range, with a pool no less. It seemed reasonable from the prices I saw last year, so I bit to the tune of $1,000 Pesos for the service. Got to Merida expecting a list of places to look at. We met, they had nothing! "We're waiting to hear back from our people." Right! Then why did we have a meeting if you have nothing to show me? Asked for, and got my money back. 👍

      Your father is probably just looking out for your best interest. We can only speak for ourselves, but we have lived/ traveled to a number of different places in Mexico and have been completely fine. It is just like in the U.S. (or anywhere in the world) where there are great, good, and sometimes not so nice areas. Just pay attention to your surroundings wherever you travel and use common sense (i.e. not flashing/ pulling out a lot of money in public etc.). Go visit and enjoy God bless you and your family as well. 🙏🌹

    It is great that you are in Aguascalientes but maybe you shouldn't call it "home" quite yet. You kind of lock yourself in and it makes it more difficult to change your mind later. After six months, yes, you could say, it is home. Before that a lot could happen. But then what could go wrong in a city that has the National Museum of Death?

      @@WhyNotNow You have chosen a very prosperous city, with a lot of high tech industries, and a Nissan car factory. Apparently there are a lot of Japanese engineers there. It looks to be a great choice. I like the fact that you have moved to somewhere that retirees rarely choose. A quick look at Numbeo shows rent to be 66% lower than in Querétaro, which is great if you have the same uality of life. At least you won't bothered at 7.00 in the morning by someone trying to sell you timeshare or a tour of the city.

      @WhyNotNow  2 года назад

      @@rayvogensen2983 Hi Ray, That is the main reason we chose the city; because of the fact that the expat penetration is low. One thing about Numbeo, is it is only as good as the folks inputting the data (it is based off of anyone who simply wants to add info). We will be doing a video soon talking about our personal reasons for selecting this city.

      @@WhyNotNow You are right about Numbeo but I also double check looking at
      Expatistan. When Numbeo first came out I did the prices for Chaves, Portugal. I actually went to our largest supermarket and wrote down prices for different items. Despite some errors you do get a general idea about different places.
