    In this video, we will cover (in detail) the steps you need to take in the United States to obtain your temporary residency visa for Mexico. You will understand the difference between a "tourist visa" and a "temporary resident visa" when it pertains to a U.S. citizen/ "American" traveling to Mexico. We will give you tips for identifying the appropriate Consulate General/ Embassy which provides a full range of visa services in order for you to start the process. We also explain how different embassies will have varying requirements (i.e. Atlanta GA Consulate General can have different requirements in comparison to other U.S. cities). We will specifically review how to access the appropriate website to schedule your appointment for your temporary residency visa at the Mexican Consulate as well as discuss fees/ documents (i.e. economic solvency etc.) needed. This video will also give you important tips for going through this process with immigration during the pandemic. **MAKE SURE TO WATCH PT.2 OF THIS VIDEO:

    I've heard that Atlanta is one of the best places to go for the temporary residency. I know several do the tourist visa as the residency financial requirements where too high in other states. So they leave every six months for a visit back in the states and then reenter for anothe 180 days. Love your videos.

      I am scouring the internet trying to find the best/easiest place to try for permanent residency. All the consulates are all over the map in the amount needed to qualify (I've seen everything from $2,700 in Detroit to $3,800 in Miami) and the amount to apply (from $36 to $44). Some are using the Minimum Salary multiplier and some are using the new "UMA" multiplier which is supposed to be lower/easier. Here is a link to a website that has a list and links to all the Mexican consulates in the US. unitedwedream.org/list-of-mexican-consulates/

    Nice informative video you guy's! Coming by way of the San Diego Mexican Consulate, I only had to prove six months of steady income in my U.S. checking account. Like you mentioned in the video, every Mexican Consulate is different and follows different standards, (which does not make any sense). What could be a big help also is to hire an immigration service to do a lot of this work for you, such as write the official letters in Spanish for the Consulate, an do all the leg work (literally) in representing you at the local immigration office where you feel you would like to reside. Make sure you pick the right team to represent you. Going to watch Part 2 now, even though I am now waiting for the second phase in the immigration process in obtaining my temporary ressidense card.

There is NO disponible for Chicago consulate in any month of 2021!!! I assume they might add available appts - I will keep checking until we find one... does anybody know if this happens all the time at the Chicago consulate? I am so glad I did this 1 yr before we want an appt - I thought it would be straightforward and can get an appt like next week...

      @@WhyNotNow I am enjoying your channel and you seem like such nice authentic people. It would be a pleasure to meet you once I complete my relocation to Guanajuato next year. I have been traveling to Mexico on and off with a tourist visa for the last few years. I am currently initiating the process of obtaining a permanent resident visa. I will attempt to use my rental income in place of a pension and see if that will work. If not, I will obtain a temporary resident visa. I realize you may not have all the answers but I am leaving this information in my comment for the purpose of further discussion. I live quite far from the nearest consulates. My nearest choices are Las Vegas and Sacramento. I am unable to make an appointment online for either consulate and their voicemail boxes are full. For the Las Vegas consulate, it shows all days of the week as “no disponible” with the exception of Tuesdays, but I am still unable to book an appointment online for a Tuesday. I plan to show up on a Tuesday and see if they are taking walk ins. Have you heard of this and do you have any suggestions?

    • @WhyNotNow
      @WhyNotNow  3 года назад +3

      @@barrielynn8959 Hi Barrie, 🌻 I looked at the Las Vegas calendar and from what I can see, Las Vegas has no available slots posted on their calendar currently. When a slot is open, you will specifically see "available" or "disponible" denoted on the specific calendar day. With that said, that doesn't mean you still can't get an appointment as the calendar in the consulate we scheduled our appointment with (Atlanta, GA), looked the same (had "no availability/ "no disponible" listed). What I learned was that you must go online and check the calendar DAILY and MULTIPLE times a day. 👍Due to the situation with COVID, the consulates are only opening up limited slots and this can be done sporadically, weekly, or even monthly; your BEST bet is to be diligent about checking the calendar frequently/ at different times of the day. Now, there is a phone number listed for the Las Vegas consulate, however, they will likely just provide you with the same availability (viewable to you per the online calendar), and tell you to check back another day. I hope this helps. We also want to say thank you for your kind words, and of course:-). You can contact us in the future via email if you like contactwhynotnow@gmail.com. 🌹

      @WhyNotNow  3 года назад +2

      Glad this helped you out Kelly. Who told you you don't qualify? My thought is if you have a U.S..bank account where you get those funds deposited into monthly, that shows/ proves "financial solvency". to the Mexican Consulate. Once you get approved/ complete both parts of the residency process (U.S. & Mexico piece), you should then able to open up a bank account here in Mexico in which you can use to transfer money from your U.S. bank account. Just my thoughts....if you do end up going this path, let us know how things turn out for you. ❣️

      Glad to hear our video was a resource for you. We received our 1 year Temporary residency (TR) and are up for renewal in November. We can renew the TR for either for 1, 2, or 3 years. We are likely to select the 3 year option and will be doing a video on our experience with the renewal process once we are all set. At that point, we will have more info regarding what they ask for here in Mexico for the renewal (i.e. financial solvency etc ) but, it is my understanding that even if they do ask for that again, it isn't as stringent as the initial process in the U.S. Stat timed for an update in the near future. As for reasons for the TR, what we mentioned in the video as well as simply stating you desire to live in MX for a year to experience/ learn about the culture is just fine.

      Hi BrownSugarBabe, When we went through the process, we just waited for them to tell us when to come in (via email) after we had registered online (via the INM website as discussed in Part 2 of this video). There have been a number of changes to the process (and other policies) since then. They have a newly updated website and it seems that is where you would go to make your appointment. Go to the INM (immigration Mexico) website where you should be able to locate the address, and phone number of the INM office in the city you plan on going to (there are multiple listed on the site and you will have to see where there is availability). This is also a good starting point as you can contact the INM office in the city you plan to go to - each may do things differently. Here is the link to the INM website in Mexico; you will have to navigate to find what you are looking for (tramites/ identidad passaporte y migracion is the starting point) www.gob.mx/.

    • @WhyNotNow
      @WhyNotNow  3 года назад +2

      Hi Sandra, When you first apply for temporary residency (after completing PART 1 of this process/ details specified in this video in the U.S.), you then must complete PART 2 here in Mexico (Temporary Resident Visa In MEXICO~ How To Live in Mexico Legally (PT. 2) U.S. Citizens: ruclips.net/video/mpaTLwdoj10/видео.html). Not sure if you watched the PART 2 video yet but, temporary residency will be approved initially/ first for 1 year by immigration here in Mexico. After your one year as a resident, you will be eligible to request your temporary residency renewal for either another year OR for 3 years (all at once). This just changed recently as before, you would have to renew every year until you meet the 4 years as a temporary resident( temporary residency is for a TOTAL of 4 years and then you are eligible to apply for permanent residency). Keep in my mind, however, that certain individuals (i.e people who receive a monthly pension, social security, etc.), can opt to apply for permanent residency right away/ skip the temporary residency portion - most people will only be eligible to start with temporary first. Hope this helps!

    I will be going through the second half of this process in January in Queretaro as well. Before you left, did you two have to complete the "Menaje De Casa" Inventory certificate for the personal belongings you brought when you first arrived? It reads as you would need to do it to import your own clothing, books, household goods, etc but I never see anyone covering it in their videos.

    • @WhyNotNow
      @WhyNotNow  2 года назад +1

      Hi Matt, No, we didn't have to complete such a form. We flew into Queretaro with 2 backpacks, 2 suitcases, And two dogs. Not sure if you are planning on driving over, or if the consulate you are dealing with has certain requirements (as they are all different in what they require).

    • @TheMooreodb
      @TheMooreodb 2 года назад

      @@WhyNotNow Thanks for replying. I don't think it is a requirement from the consulate. I think it is for people who wants to import their household goods with them but it reads that your everyday clothing in your luggage could be deemed to satisfy the need to complete one. However, I have yet to hear anyone having problems with this at the airport when they arrive so I don't know.

      You're welcome Matt. I haven't heard of any problems with people bringing items when flying. We even packed an 8 puund, dog hair dryer, small ninja blender and a number of other items in our checked luggage without any issues.

    Thanks for the info . Did you have to bring 12 months of banck staments ? Or 12 months account balance. Did you print of the bank site or you hand to do it with the bank . Thank you

    • @WhyNotNow
      @WhyNotNow  2 года назад

      Hi Ricardo, You're welcome. We printed 12 months of bank statements. You can print them from your bank website. The pages will be numbered so make sure you bring every page even if you don't think a page has any information; they will say something if a numbered page is missing. The most important thing is to check the specific requirements at the consulate you plan to go to as they all have different requirements.

      Check the financial requirements at the consulate you plan to apply with. I don't believe it is an additional 100x more per person/child; they will add an additional amount for each individual family member, but it shouldn't be to an extreme .

I just want to be straight in saying that going to a particular place doesn't guarantee a good, or bad experience. We didn't have a "special contact"; we just did our research, and prepared accordingly (also keeping in mind to go with a humble attitude regardless of the personality of the agent).

      Go to New Orleans, smoothest and most relaxed consulate I've been to. Got my temporary Mexican visa in December, but unfortunately I forgot to get a multientry when I left for thailand a month so I'm in the usa repeating the process. Once you get the visa if you have to leave anytime after waiting for it to be processed in Mexico, talk to IMM first because it will invalidate the visa process if you leave without multientry approval.

      Hi Ken & Ariel, Not sure if you watched PART 2 of this residency video, but you will now need to complete the second part of the process in Mexico before you are officially granted residency (the video provides all detailed info). You would do so in the city you plan to travel to in Mexico. Go to the INM (immigration Mexico) website to locate the address, and phone number of where you will personally need to go (there are multiple). Here is the link to the INM website in Mexico www.gob.mx/.

      Hi Muhammad, There isn't an actual oath ceremony and to answer your question, you are supposed to stay in Mexico until the process is complete. If there is an emergency situation however, you can request an exit but that does delay your process. Hope this helps.

    9:24 I need help understanding. My only option for a temporary residency card, is through economic solvency. I do not understand either of the 2 options. Basically, is the 1st one saying, that I have to have $30,200 (123 pesos x 5000) saved up altogether in 12 months? And for the 2nd option, it says that I have to prove my monthly income, tax free, equivalent to 300 days x 123.22=
    $1817.80 US Dollars. So for this option, would I have to earn $1,817 per month from a job? Would they except this option if I worked remotely online? I'm really sorry for all the numbers I posted. Thank you for this video btw.

    • @WhyNotNow
      @WhyNotNow  2 года назад +2

      Hi Hope Outside the USA, You understood it perfectly:-). You may already know this but I wanted to reiteratejust in case, these financial/ economic solvency requirements apply to the Atlanta, GA Mexican Consulate and they can change at any time (these figures were valid when the video was recorded, although it still appears the same on their site today). If you will be going to a diffrent consulate (in another state), you will need to contact them and see what their specific requirements are (as silly as it seems, they can have diffrent requirements). If you have a remote job in which you've been employed with longer than 6 months/ can show that net figure/ income being deposited consistently, I don't think you should have any issue using your bank statements showing those monthly deposits with your current job in the U.S. Hope this helps clarify:-).
