I learned that onion on the grill trick from my Mexican friends and I use it every time now. Really helps to make the meat not stick.
Pam spray or oil would work perfect for that as well. The onion is used to get rid of all the old grease caked on the grill from the last carne asada.

You obviously have never been to a white barbecue. We’ve got several grills and smokers going along with coolers full of beer an a mini fridge full of Coors Banquet. 😀🍻
Yeah no shit. And I'll also say I love Mexican food but every time I go to a Mexican BBQ the meat is almost burned.
Even in Central NY we knock out a spread larger than that. It's about 400.00 to put on a decent bbq. And everything comes from a butcher block. No preservatives and flavor is unrivaled.
@@ElimGarak1 nothing like prime beef tenderloin smoked then reverse seared. Couple of whole chickens, pork ribs, sausage, New York strips, homemade sides and some smoked baked beans to top it off. Beer and then more beer of course…

@@jerichofawkes1911 We're much the same. The 4 meat groups Beef, Pork, Poultry and Sea Food. Shrimp and clams. 50/50 butcher block smoked bacon and sirloin ground, 1 inch patties cook low n slow. And if ya can find it I'd suggest Hoffman Hot Dogs(beef) and Coneys(Veal-pork) in a natural casing. They are a Central New York brand. Only type you can serve in the area honestly. Topped with Texas Chili and onions its what we call a Texas Hot.

The Mexicans in my area adapt some white stuff to their barbecues (hot dogs, hamburgers, and apparently whiskey) and do Mexican-like ways to do it (seriously, a cheeseburger with Tapatio and some tacos on the side, it's bomb)

As a Mexican, I 100% agree. But also, you forgot the watermelon AND the roasting corn (with the husk attached) getting cooked on the grill with the left over coals AND getting tortillas and transforming them into tostadas, that would be my 3rd and 4th meals of the afternoon.

My friend went to a picnic with her Mexican boyfriend and dutifully made a big bowl of PA Dutch potato salad. She said they seemed puzzled at firsts but scooped it up with tacos, and there was none left over to take home.

The origins of the carne asada is from Monterrey but Tamaulipa and our in people on Texas because if you go further in to Mexico they don’t used the same meat ask them about the fajita and they don’t used it . But I love them both if am with my family Burgers and carne asada.
