  • I thought I would share a few clips from various different parts of my home automation system I have been putting together over the last few years. The controller software being used is Homeseer 3 and touchscreens are using HSTouch.
    I'm starting to do more detailed write ups of some of my project which you are welcome to check out here:

    Thanks Mike for your fast response!
    Just looking for something reliable. I have recently started a new business in Australia with CCTV cameras, video door phones, alarm systems.
    Looking for expanding in automation field but even if 5% fails for each project that's not considering good for business.
    Still I like Fibaro tech because I don't know any other smarter and configurable system!

    This is really impressive! I just ordered my first raspberry pi and going to try to do some home automatisation. So i might show up here and ask some questions later on cuz this video is a really nice model of how it should be! Congratz

    Hey Mike....great video and thanks for taking the time to do it...love the accent too.....just wanted to throw this little tidbit of info to keep YOU and your followers safe....be extremely careful of electric blankets..in fact....don't buy one...VERY bad for your health...just google the risks....stay well and keep those videos coming.....jp

      Thanks for the advice Jim. To be honest I'm more interested in it as an occupancy sensor/heart rate/breathing sensor than as a functional electric blanket (in fact I kinda hate them personally but my wife does life/use them)

    I've started writing up some of the projects I've been doing over the years. May take some time to get it all up there, but feel free to take a look.

    ok just stumbled across another gadget I'm going to have to add to the collection.
    igg.me/p/luna-turn-your-bed-into-a-smartbed/x/10068584
    A crowd fund project for a Smart Bed. At it's simplest it's a dual zone electric blanket with a bunch of sensors included for heart/breathing rate. Will make a great occupancy sensor.

    What light switches do you have? They look nice, and do you use any of the zwave dimmers?

    • @MikeOwenNZ
      @MikeOwenNZ  9 лет назад +3

      Yeah I swapped over to them as I liked the frosted glass finish and you can get labeled buttons as well. They are made by a company called Clipsal and they are the Saturn series with bell press switch. For dimmers I use the aeon labs dimmers and have a couple installed one on some regular incandescents and the other running some dimmable CFL's

    Hello, it looks amazing!
    What about reliable Zwave micromodules. I had bad experience with x10. I used original marmitek, spend thousands euros to build smart home but afrter one year I had faulty modules, loose setting etc!! My friend had same experience with Fibaro system. I like all the smart features you can't find at KNX or CBUS but ..
    Have you ever face any issues?
    Thanks
    Kostas

      Hi Kostas, over the last couple of years I have had some failures. 2 Double in wall aeotec switches have failed completely and 1 aeotec multisensory occasionally was reading incorrect temps (it would go from 20 degress then shoot to 60 and then drop back down). The later sensor was outdoors, but it was always under complete cover. Every other aspect of it worked fine and that's out of aprox 60 zwave devices.

    Awesome...would love to learn how to trigger the camera presets....

    • @MikeOwenNZ
      @MikeOwenNZ  8 лет назад +1

      +justscubasteve sure... I set two preset position within the camera UI itself (it's a foscam) one called home and another called door. I can then call that via http request in the format :/cgi-bin/CGIProxy.fcgi?usr=&pwd=&cmd=ptzGotoPresetPoint&name=substituting your details for everything in the (remove the bits as well)I then have two sensors, a door sensor and a motion sensor. When the door sensor trips it calls the door preset. If the door closes it calls the home preset. If motion is detected and the door has been open for more than 10 secs then it calls home.

    Hey Mike, how you doing? I like you all videos. Please tell me how did you mount KindleFire HD 7" tablet on wall?

    • @MikeOwenNZ
      @MikeOwenNZ  7 лет назад

      I went to a place that makes picture frames and got them to build some frames for the tablets and then took to the back of them with a dremel drill to carve away enough wood for the micro usb (L shaped) to plug in and charge it. From there it's stuck to the wall with 3m command adhesive Velcro strips

      @MikeOwenNZ  7 лет назад

      I've taken a pic of the back for you to see:

    what tablet and frame did you use to be able to mount it to the wall?

    • @MikeOwenNZ
      @MikeOwenNZ  6 лет назад

      it's an amazon kindle 7" HD. It's a few years old now so they no longer make that particular model (reso is 1280x800). Frame I got custom made by going to a picture framing place and then used a dremel to route out some more of the frame to fit the micro usb power plug and cable. Stuck to the wall using 3m command adhesive velcro strips (makes it easy to remove and reattach on the rare occasion needed). I haven't looked recently but now they have been out a few years there maybe an off the shelf option now available.

    I assume you do not live alone, looking at your house. The problem I have is that we are 5 people. Now if I do something like geofencing, I need to take 5 phones into account and a almost constant comming and going of friends and relatives. So it turns out the PIR sensores or even a switch work much better than Geofencing.

    • @MikeOwenNZ
      @MikeOwenNZ  6 лет назад

      I use a combination of PIR sensors/Camera triggered events/Geofence to run both room level and house level events. The PIR sensors tell me someones in a room (but not who). The geofence (these days I use a combination of bluetooth + mobile data&GPS) tell me who is in the house (and to some degree who is a in a room). I like being able to personalise the events based on who is there, PIR's wont let you do that. For friends and relatives I could care less so for them they are all PIR based events. For my family + the cleaner it's personalised.
