This was great!!! After reading the PDF doc I was still lost. I now have an outlet turning on my bird bath heated in the day when it's freezing and off at night regardless of temp. I figure birds don't drink at night so why waste the energy. It's all downhill from here. Thanks much for making this vid, I'd still be lost without it. Learning about the virtual switches was great as well for testing.

Awesome, I'm considering a Vera purchase in the future and the other basic scene tutorial videos seemed to be lacking conditional/state logic for scenes I have in mind. Looks like this is something that would solve that problem.
Frank Montanaro Yes, Vera scenes pretty much suck in version 1.5. I haven't upgraded to 1.7 yet because I haven't seen much of a reason to but hopefully they have improved some in that version. Like you said, Vera scenes don't allow much conditional logic. They also don't keep track of stats if Vera restarts. So, if Vera restarts at 2:00 am and you have a light turning on at 6:00 pm and off at 6:00 am it won't turn off! Stupid. PLEG solves all of that.
Also, I don't know how much you like DIY but check out mysensors.org. It is an awesome way to build cheap sensors for Vera. I am hoping to make a couple of tutorial videos for some of my sensors I have made but haven't found the time yet... Soon.

Second, as a new user, I am struggling on using my aeron sensor to keep the lights on when I am in the room, as it keeps turning it off then on again. So I noticed your first example would solve my problem.
Would you mind to make a video, step by step, on how to make the sensor NOT turn off the lights whenn there is movement and then after like 5 seconds, if no movement, then turn the lights off?

It will give purpose to my vera and my sensors, because right now, they are just expensive gadgets with no actual function. Keep up the great work!

In going through your video, I noticed that your light sensor refers to an Arduino. How does the arduino interact with Vera.

Hi Pete - I myself am also a very visual learner ... and got stumped looking through PLEG and luup videos. I'd like some help programming my Vera to send me a text if I left my garage door opened for longer than 10 minutes. Is this possible?
+Sam Nhean Yes, it is if you have the sensors. If you haven't check out my PLEG video on working with time. One way you could do what you want is to have three conditions. One that starts a 10 minute timer if the door opens then another that toggles the timer (stops it) if it closes and a third that sends an alert if the timer runs out and the door is still open. I do something similar in my working with time video.
Hi Pete, just wondering if you had any trouble setting up the PLEG plugin on Veralite. I'm also using UI5, I've downloaded it along with the Timer and Core plugins, but when I go to "Edit" it will not load at at all. It tries to open, but it goes on for ever with no success.
Two things to try. 1. Did you buy a license? That may have something to do with it. 2. Try unplugging the power from your Vera then plugging it back in. I have found that sometimes completely removing power is necessary for things to install or uninstall.

I haven't even updated yet to UI7 yet. UI5 is working well still and I haven't taken the time to upgrade it yet. Someday... the projects list is so long though! :)
