  • Here is a quick demo of how I use the Amazon Echo with my home automation and home theater control. This is not meant as a how to but rather an example of what is possible.

I can tell this will improve as time goes on and the software and hardware become more defined. That being said my wife who is disabled from a stroke talks to our Xbox to control the TV with more perception and accuracy that this demo. Now I'm not a fan boy of Microsoft I'm an Apple guy and she is only controlling the TV functions but I have to say it works extremely well and she does have a speech issue. Just my two cents

You are giving the commands too fast, you need to pause briefly. You need to get her attention first (ring light on).

Cool system you have here. I might be wrong here, but you have a tablet with touch screen that can turn things on and off, which you can do much quicker than asking Alexa to do anything. Especially when you keep having to repeat yourself. I can see using Alexa when you don't have tablet near you. I personally would rather use the touch screen to turn stuff on and off. I do like the idea of home automation and this is really cool. thanks for the video.

Slow down with the voice commands. I have mine on my harmony hub and iftt. I have learned you need to slow down with your voice commands.

Try pausing a second between the words "Alexa...... Turn on .... " you're saying the command too soon.

Alexa is a cute gimmick. But I don't see home automation replacing a harmony remote anytime soon.

Amazon Alexa works great in tandem with Harmony! I have them in my home theater and really am impressed with how well they can work well together, specially with the new Harmony skill that allows scenes to be recogmized by Alexa.

For home automation these are great systems. Security AllStar, along with the UltraSync Hub, have an announcement coming soon that will further change the security industry. One of the technologies just mentioned in the two previous comments will be a part of the Ultrasync HUB and will combine all of the creature comforts of home automation and home theater with the best of security features which include Police, fire and medical services.

SimpleControl on my iPad is much better than using my Harmony Elite remote with all the data on the screen and controls all available. Both work with multiple Amazon Echos.

    • @SecurityAllStar

technojerry we are finding that several systems that have been in the industry much longer, like the Alarm.com and the Ultrasync HUB, also do not have some vulnerabilities like those systems not built for the security industry. People need to consider just what all these systems are capable of before turning them loose.
