like the features, setup was difficult for some of my devices (August Door lock, ruclips.net/user/postUgkxhB5YOMNj04GuoAosExygP4cH-dKeb4aB Bose speaker)... but all switches and outlets (5), thermostat, tankless water heater. Unfortunately all I can do is turn on/off Bose. It doesn't support volume or changing channels, but I believe that is due to the particular speaker I have.... Worth getting if you already have other devices to use it with... I don't sit around and ask Alexa questions much so that doesn't really matter to me....
Excellent video. Thanks a million for showing us the how to!
Ive installed this system in Germany at my Home with ST and Fibaro Roller Shutter 2 and the KT52S curtain motor. Works very good !
Thnx for making this, heads up in future to maybe blank out the alexa word as she’s in my house listening too 😂
excellent, well described and well structured video. very informative, very easy to follow. thank you very much for your hard work.
great video thanks
thank you it's really useful 😀😀
I got this working on my relatively cheap e-rod, Alexa (Dot) & Harmony Hub. No skill needed to set it up, just put the model of your motorized curtain rod into Harmony setup and most likely the remote functions are already available. Then you can program Harmony activities easily - open, wait 20 sec, stop - to open half way. Alexa fully supported through the Harmony skill.
Do you know of any solutions for 110v? The DT52S you can get in 220 or 110, but It looks like the KT320S is 220v only.
awsome project.
Good video. Simple, clear and complete. I would like to know if it's possible to set timers, so if you have roller curtains you can have different shade setting: 10%, 30%, 100%... etc.
Thank you
thank you
Very nice 👍👍👍👍👍
Nice work! Try this: Call them "drapes" instead of "curtains," and Alexa will respond to "open drapes" and "close drapes" instead of turn on/turn off. I'm not certain what's magic about "drapes." I can say that "Draperies" won't work with open/close commands. "Garage Door" or "Garage" also won't work. Drapes open/drapes closed works in my setup, which is an ESP8266 WiFi module attached to a Somfy remote. I designed it to operate a Somfy 3-button remote, deriving a third button push from a two-state control by looking at a Boolean drapes state variable. Search Somfy on Github if you'd like details.
Thanks for sharing. Good job. Please, tell me how does curtain's motors know when to stop? I mean, in the moment they worked without being attached to curtain's base
What motorized roller blinds type product would you recommend instead of the curtain rail shown here that would work with the Aeotec controller?
Also, do you know if splicing the Beme Erod power cable work with the Aeotec controller as well (they seem to be using a quick plug setup)?
Hey what kind of power strip/ surge protector is that? I like how the plugs are spaced out so the u can plug in the big power blocks.
Could you change the alexa command to "curtain close" and "curtain open" instead of saying off and on?
Do they have this for blinds that go up and down?
Hi, could you please kindly let me know that you have try the motorized curtain that is able to stop opening halfway using Aeotec or other zwave
Is there a way I can use the Amazon Echo Plus 2 to control it directly or do I still need the Samsung bridge?
if not what you recoment for 12 volt
Netjes man
Can it only close or open half instead of full length?
I can't find the Aeotec dsc14104-zwus in stock anywhere. Was it discontinued? Is there another motor controller that would work with this setup?
since it finds the device as a dimmer can you say like open 50% and have it open half way etc. ?
how does the aotec dsc 14014 know when to stop the curtain? ..
you can get the same results by connecting to Smart Plug Wi-Fi Outlet Switch ?
Hey there!! I've lived in SP for a year..and I REALLY miss the Kopi!
I'm a newbie to the world of automation and IoT - so please excuse if this is a silly question:
How does the motor know when to stop turning either way? Since you're only giving 2 commands (On: to turn one way, Off: to turn the other way) - theoretically the motor would try to keep spinning even when curtains are fully open or closed. So, I'm assuming it's much like a car window in that the motor itself senses a resistance/obstacle and then switches itself off.
The reason I'm asking this is because I'd like to integrate your method to horizontal blinds (i.e. tilt them up or down)...but the motor you demonstrate won't be easy to hide - so I'll need to use something else. Just wanted to make sure I look into other motors that have this "auto-off" function built in.
Thanks!
Hopefully one day, someone will make a Vertical blind Controller for Smartthings. Maybe I should make it as it is a pretty easy design.
These look really promising, but they don't have a release date yet: ruclips.net/video/686Gu2Fb_LU/видео.html
The Aeotec Micro Motor Controller shown isnt available. What other product can you suggest? Thank you.
Hello, the lake behind you. Do you use plain water or another type of solution?
nice ,can you write me what do i have to install in usa for 110 volt
Can Any one tell me what is that behind the instructor..
I am really curios abt that??
where could I get that bubble wall with the time and date display?!
Looks great I assume works with Google Assistant as well?
That such friend greetings from Colombia, I have a question that I could not solve. How do you link the "alexa" with the z wave driver?
In my case to domitize my apartment I am using amazon echo, z wave driver "horus" in colombia and it is the same "vera" for united states.
bro can you explain how to connect the micro controller to the dooya curtain motor ? i cant really find a pic
would there be any way to "if this, than that" where you just say open or close rather than off or on?
If I customise the keywords to "Open" and "Close" instead of On and Off using IFTTT, does it work? Sorry I don't own these devices so I can't test them out myself.
Do you have tutorial about alexa to motorize curtain. How to set up?
Couldn't you use an Erod Remote Control Telescoping Drapery Rod Kit with a WeMo switch outlet plug to do the same thing in a simpler way? It seems like there is less tinkering and individual parts.
Just wish to enquire where can I purchase the curtain rail?
The links for the Dooya products no longer work. Is there an alternative source or product?
Isn't RM pro+ BROADLINK is better than SmartThings Hub?
What about if you are in the bedroom and you want to open the curtains in the kitchen-room?
I got mine from Add-A-Motor.com It was far less complicated and worked with my current track system so I didn't need to change everything. Setup took me about 10 minutes.
Great and very thorough video 👍. Where'd you get the water display behind you?
It's called a Bubble Wall =)

How to get The Curtain Engine up/down/pause command in udp?
Excellent video. Quick question! What a device handler on ST do u use in this system?
SmartThings will automatically identify the Aeotec Micro Motor Controller as a 'Dimmer Switch'. I hope this answers your question.
Seems like a short curtain rod. Or doesn’t that matter? Could I run this off of my Phillips Hue, and the router that I have through my internet provider?
I too have a Philips Hue, Please let me know if you had any success
Can I do this with an Insteon Hub?
Is this HomeKit compatible?
that controller has been discontinued, any other options you can recommend
I'm trying to build this in the US but the voltage for the curtain engine is 220v. will this be compatible with the 120v Aeotec micro controller?
custain motor voltage have 110-210V,it's means DC motor ,if you need more help just let's me know gzyushun.en.alibaba.com
Thanks for this. Where did you get the curtain?
world.taobao.com/item/520095280221.htm
its that will work on 12 volt
What kind of water wall is that?
Answer is further down: 15852881828.world.taobao.com/?spm=2013.1.1000126.3.C6piV06
Wow, this is neat. Could it also be put on a timer?
Just add it to a Google routine
is there motorized curtain track that move to one side only? open/close to the side. Instead of open/close at center.
the curtain track you can decide the open way ,can open/cose to one side ,www.alibaba.com/product-detail/Electric-curtain-Compatible-With-Alexa-And_60778397429.html?spm=a2747.manage.list.153.36e871d28G5mmM
Nevermind I just realized the plugs aren't like what we have in the US. Great video though
Netherlands?
Haha, yeah.
Dutch-born Singaporean =)
- Groeten uit Shanghai!
Nice video! I am a Singaporean too, but born in China :) Just wondering how is the user experience with Echo in China though. Heard many of its services are not available in China.
When we test US products we normally always use a VPN with a US IP to avoid interference of the Great Firewall. Perhaps the below answer may also be of interest to you:
Q45: Does the Amazon Echo work outside the US?
Yes, but there are several important issues you have to take into account.
Below findings were valid on Thu, Sep 17, 2015 and may be resolved / updated via future software updates by Amazon or via hacks / custom fixes contributed by the community.
US Time Zones Only
The Amazon Echo currently (as of Thu, Sep 17, 2015) only supports time zones covered by US Zip Codes. This means that for now you will be allocated a wrong / incorrect time zone on your Amazon Echo if your time zone is not covered by a US Zip Code, which is definitely the case for users in Europe and Asia.
The above impacts asking for the time (without mentioning your city), compatibility with your calendar and setting an alarm (specifying a time) on your Amazon Echo when you are outside the United States.
US ZIP Codes / Locations Only
This impacts local weather, news and traffic requests. Instead of asking: "Alexa, what is the weather like outside?", you will have to ask "Alexa, what is the weather like in Singapore?"
Oh boy, I found it:
bit.ly/2y8e6Vg
It is a well known online store, so...

Wasn't Alexa already an "smart thing" hub? Was it not possible to run that without the Samsung hub?
Many products in the smart home landscape do not use Wi-Fi as a wireless protocol, but instead use protocols such as Z-Wave, Zigbee and Bluetooth.
The Amazon Echo is able to connect with products directly via Wi-Fi and Bluetooth but as of today (20160831) not with Z-Wave and/or Zigbee products.
Due to the above, you often times still need an additional smart home hub, such as the Samsung SmartThings Hub to realize certain implementations such as the one in this particular video: curtain control via voice commands.
Can you post where you can find these products (controller, curtain engine)?

dear friend, i need to know where can i buy compatible curtain rails
i got it. thanks
we can make curtain rails
I can't find anything like this in Home Depot.
Do I have to get hub to connect to echo? or echo can search for the switch as a smart device
The switch uses Z-wave while the Echo uses Wifi. The ST Hub bridges the two together, so yes it is required.
Will this work with a hue bridge or does it have to be a smart things hub?
Abigail Barrientos smartthings (the hue bridge is only for hue light bulbs).
cadillacdavelle thank you for the reply! Also will the smart things hub control the lights as well or do I have to buy the hue bridge?
get PC , enable voice commands, get good mic ,, get X10 plug to lan ,,, job done , dont need an Amazon Echo
how to connect 2 curtains(motors) together with single controller ?
you can buy the 2 channel controller ,means two channel remote control ,so each channel will control one motor
Would be sooo much cheaper and easier if Xiaomi supported IFTTT. :-(
you can get the same results by connecting to Smart Plug Wi-Fi Outlet Switch
ماطور الستائر
Or... you could buy a smart connected curtain rail in 4 weeks
Can't you just stand up and close the curtains but still this is the future
just came back from a a holiday and some of the hotels had automated blinds. it was so convinient
+Dan Moran cool
thats a lot of money to save 5 seconds worth of work.
you should think about it in other use cases, it's not just for the lazy.
even though you have voice control (which is fantastic) software control allows for so many more options. For example, if you like your curtains open in the morning but you leave for work you can have them close automatically during the hottest part of the day while you are at work.
also, consider people who are immobile due to age or injury that would prevent them from getting up and opening a curtain.
there is so much more that something like this could give someone a sense of independence or help reduce heating and cooling costs
super polite response
i was just thinking how if it was 5 seconds of work...wtf are you watching the video for?
Dave MacDonald Then you would buy the Xiaomi device and not this circus....
Dave MacDonald Great call. I’m an above knee amputee, and this would be very helpful. Does anyone know how much all of this would cost, minus the router bc I’ve already got a router? Also. Do they have a setup for this, using the Phillips Hue? Thanks and again good looking out. Veteran here.
Thanks for NOT answering my question! I’m sure it had something to do with the fact that I’m a VETERAN!!! Keep your shit!!! It’s a lot of money I’m sure, and I know I can come up with something better and cheaper.
Dude, stop using alexa word in the video. Its common sense.
To much money for just a few seconds of work.
that controller has been discontinued, any other options you can recommend
can i connect it with google home instead of amazon echo?
Seagullian Dave that's what I wanna know to.
It only needs to connect with the Smartthings Hub. Then anything, Alexa or Google Home, can just connect to the ST Hub.
