Dude, NO!!!! I'm watching, I'm fully invested in this and REALLY want to begin a DIY home automation project of my own, this is the first video series that has broken it down into manageable, practical and digestible chunks of information. Please don't bail on us!

I'm hooked, after watching your 2 videos I can't get enough. I can see me spending allot of coin on this. I know I'll be going overboard on this. I'm a tech nut and combine this with my smartphone I'll be rigging up all kinds of commands. Thanks for bringing up a great subject.

Looks great for turning things on and off and dimming lights. How about AV controls ? Turning TV switch to Freeview, Sky, XBMC etc ? Volume control, switch to surround sound etc.... Also playing movies from a NAS ? It raises lots of questions and shows lots of promise at the same time. Time to get one and have a play i think. Cheers for inspiring me !

Really cool series and like the simplecity of the set ups. Side note, I wish that you did continue the Tasker series. If I knew that you had stop it, I wouldn't bought it! On that note, is the tasker or more the S3 on Jellybean 4.1 not a good match?

Great videos man! Huge fan. Just wondering if there's a way to turn the lights off after a certain period of time. So like you tried the sensor but then if there isn't any more motion detected after 20min it turns it back off. Also in your last theoretical example of it detecting 50% light (I assume you meant daylight) it turns the light on, well is there a way to set it to go off say at 8:00am when there should be more then enough ambient daylight? Thanks again! Make more!

Awesome stuff. What's the range on the Vera Lite? If I want to do indoor and outdoor stuff, will it have enough range, or should I get the Vera3? Also, can Tasker be used to send the voice commands through, instead of going in to the app to use the voice control? I'd like to use my bluetooth headset with AutoVoice to do all of the verbal commands.

Was wondering how to do this. Seems pretty straightforward. Step 1: get a house... :) Still gonna get some of it while renting since it's portable.
I would also put the light switch everywhere around the house! That automates all the lights.

Hey, can you please elaborate on this in a video? Can the system be used to operate other complex network attached devices? Before, I had assumed the computer was being turned on with power, which made me think of questions about things like auto boot on power in the BIOS, and how the whole system would react if the power goes out in a house and comes back on. Would EVERYTHING turn on?

I am interested in the Veralite for a home security system, but reading a lot of forums where people say not to rely on zwave for security. What are your thoughts?
Also--is there a way to incorporate a keypad panel to disarm the security then (for people without my phone...like a babysitter?)
    Thanks!

  • @nimocone

You would have to plug a module for each appliance into the power strip's various plugs. If the power strip was plugged into the module, then it would shut everything off or turn everything on that is plugged into the power strip.

Hey Armando, do you know a way to activate the voice control of the app by speech (like in star trek)? It would be the perfect addition to run mi casa verde. I remember early on in the video when creating a scene there was a Delay option.. I'll bet there is an easier way but:
what if the motion could trigger the light on, then have it shut off a minute later(BUT with a delay of let's say 5 min later). Would the motion detector keep the light on as long as there is motion and only go off if no motion for 5 min?
Seems unwieldy but I wonder if that would work?
