I've watched a lot of reviews on the X-T4 and was primarily interested from a video perspective. Many of the others simply shot video and tested the autofocus without too much detail into the settings that they were using - they simply shot and that was considered the alpha and omega of the subject. I was happy to see that you went into a bit more detail on the autofocus and knew what the custom settings did. I have more confidence in seeing what you did and found versus some of the other reviewers. Thank you for the extra bit of detail.

I never really learned how to shoot photo's and video until I bought the X-T4. It's hard to put into words, but this camera, by the way it is designed, makes you understand how it all works. That's a huge benefit. I just love shooting and experimenting with this camera. All my Sony camera's (A6400, A6600) feel like toys now. Fuji nailed it. And thanks for your review, very helpful. Keep up the good work.

Maybe I am going crazy, but I feel like the IBIS still has that jerky look similar, though not nearly as bad, to what I have seen in X-H1. It definitely gets the shake out, but I think I might rather have some shake than smooth footage with random quick little jerks from the IBIS. It feels jarring to have something so smooth suddenly be not smooth for a fraction of a second. idk are my eyes playing tricks on me? Other than that, I'm pretty pleased with what I am seeing out of this camera!

  • @lefthandright01
    @lefthandright01 4 года назад +1

It does look like a great camera to use, but it doesn't really address the elephant in the room. When i entered into the Fuji ecosystem they had 3 flagship models. Fuji kept an appreciated philosophy of not changing the technology in any generation, only changing the body types to suit different approaches. If you mostly hand held, and preferred range finders, then the x-pro series was a great model for you. If you preferred more video centric features, deeper grip for better hand held video and IBIS, then the X-H series was ideal. If you were a mix of hand held and tripod, then the more traditional DSLR style X-T was for you.
In terms of mechanics, the more expensive feature sets to build and implement are IBIS/hybrid E.V.F and leaf shutters. Having three distinct model types allowed photographers to purchase bodies, without having to financially invest into features they didn't feel benefited their work. Fuji then released the X-T3 with improved video shortly after the X-H1, and the waters began to muddy. Most x-pro users were very happy, some asked for a bit more flexibility from the LCD display..and got (arguably) one of the most controversial screens..X-H users were looking for more up to date features, which were then released in the body type they least preferred...GFX users were some what disappointed the GFX series didn't have leaf shutters..but the x100 series did have them, but only with a fixed lens..now a year after release there is the X-T4....with more video centric features again..
All the features people have hope for are available, but curiously they are spread across differing models, instead of being contained within the original product line vision.
As a fuji user this has now got me at a cross road. I shoot mostly under lights, tethered and tripod..I just dont need these features, and now that they have been added, the camera is now near full frame in price, and size. I could investigate upgrading to GFX, but it will always lack the leaf shutter that I would desire from it...so, that being the case, rather than excite me, it is instead forcing me to now explore opportunity costs. A camera with features I don't really use, that is FF in size, and rivaling FF in price..but with an APS-C sensor...
I am not going say Fuji has blundered this by moving X-H orientated features to their X-T series...but essentially in the Fuji community, I am not the only thinking this..is Fuji still worth it? When they no longer have the smaller form factor on FF, and no longer the competitive pricing over FF.? It looks to be a great camera..but the issue is, is it still the best tool for money spent for me any more as a stills shooter? The X-T line was desirable to people like me..a great camera with the additional price of feature sets and mechanics I don't use..but now they're bundled in. I kinda believe, this camera would have done better in a X-H body and titled as the X-H2..this dream people have of 43 megapixel 8k aps-c sensor, well, in terms of technology, it is still something that is very much on the horizon. There was no real reason to release this camera as a X-T series when they already had the existing tooling to make it an X-H series.

    Good thorough video again, Ted.
What you say at the end of this video is very interesting as, in fact, cameras are more and more designed for both stills and video.
But for those who are not at all interested in video, it’s a bit worrisome to see all those video capabilities being added on camera bodies at what must inevitably be a cost.
So here is my simple and probably very naive questions, for you and the subscribers of this channel : would a stills only XT-4 or X100V with no video capabilities cost less? Is there a potential market in the digital world for stills only cameras?
Thank you and cheers to all!

15:00 I put on any unstablized prime lens on XT4, with IBIS and DIS on, I also got very jerky images when I panned slowly. However, when I put on the 18-55 OIS lens, I got gimbal-like smoothnes in the footage. So I now only use OIS lenses for shooting handheld video. For unstablized prime lenses, I will use a gimbal.

That EU tax was supposed to be removed in July 2019. Don't the camera companies know?

Yup, Sony's A6400 has no limit now as well?
All of The lumix cameras since their GH5 i think have no recording limits.

Which lens did you use for the video ?? Was it the kit lens by any chance ?? I have seen mostly youtubers struggling with focus issues apart from 1 or 2.
If you can help me with that, that would be awesome.

Sony A6400 has the feature to switch back & forth betwen video with a simply press of a button! @3.45 you're wrong.

Paul The A6400 doesn’t remember all of the settings when switching modes.

Ted, great video! In your discussion and example of the exposure ramping, did you keep iris & shutter speed fixed while leaving ISO on auto? I do run n gun shooting, so it's essential some parameter are left in auto mode.

How come you haven't done a full review of the XT4 yet? Maybe I just keep scrolling by it but I have not seen one in the videos section on your channel.

Silly question, were you able to actually find the f log view assist? I bought this camera (love it) but I'm almost convinced its not actually a feature. Tried every video setting available, still no clue.

Is that a battery-powered mic mounted on the X-T4? It looked like a micro, but I didn’t think those worked with this camera?
