Drew Brees finished 16 yards short of breaking Dan Marino’s passing yardage record. They were out of the playoffs but looking to play seed spoiler against the Panthers, but couldn’t get the win or the record in the finale. That Saints team also played a game in the Superdome on October 12, then didn’t play there again until November 24. More on the Cardinals that season. It was well known that the Cards didn't travel well based on their losses at Washington, at Jets(in which I was in attendance), at Philly on Thanksgiving night, at New England(all of these were blowouts) and at Carolina. Their only road wins were at the hapless Seahawks and Rams making their 2008 road record 2-6 but in the divisional playoff game at Carolina they used the Panthers as a chew toy and, as Kurt Warner put it, "shocked the world" 33-13. The reason being is that Larry Fitzgerald was absolutely unconscious in those playoffs catching 30 passes for 546 yards and 7 TD's setting a playoff record that still stands today. Man that team was both fun and infuriating at the same time. Sadly, losing the Super Bowl with 40 seconds left is the most Cardinal thing they could have done.

The Wildcat wasn't invented in 2008. It was an older offensive alignment, called the single wing, from the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s, that had been used by the Steelers for instance just a few years earlier when they were being led by Kordell Stewart in the very early 2000s before Tommy Maddox came to Pittsburgh.
