Scorigami rules because it completely removes any sort of loyalty to any particular team. I don't care who wins anymore I just want new numbers when the clock gets to zero
College football just came incredibly close to giving us a 4-3 score. Iowa beat South Dakota St. 7-3, with Iowa scoring a field goal and two safeties. The field goal ruined it. A less impressive 5-3 was also possible, without the 2nd safety. But no, the unlikely combination gave us a boring 7.
I would _love_ to see a college football scorigami. The blowouts are more ridiculous, the shootouts are more ridiculous, college kickers aren't nearly as automatic, and the overtime rules are completely different. Even if Jon only did scorigami for FBS (1-A), he would still have his work cut out recording all of those scores.
Had the raiders not gone for a field goal in OT, but a touchdown, it would of been a scorigami in week 3 as well... make it or not, extra point, 2 point conv., or not

Best way for it to happen would be, team A scores safety (2-0), team B scores TD with PAT (2-7), team A scores TD goes for 2 to go up 3 and fails (8-7), then holds team B scoreless the rest of the game.
@@Petty_RJ I like how he said that the Broncos were the only team to ever get a safety as their first snap, well... Browns Steelers in the playoffs last year lol, the Steelers became the second team
On this day, September 25th, there were three safeties in the same day: Commanders against Eagles, Broncos against 49ers, and Bills against Dolphins. Two of them resulted in near-scorigami: Eagles-Commanders 24-8, and Broncos-49ers 11-10, which makes 0:40 no longer accurate. Both of these final scores had only happened once prior to today. It's especially funny that Washington tried for a 2-point conversion, but failed and ended up with 8 points the weird way instead.
On September 13, 2020 Green Bay beat Minnesota by a palindromic scorigami: 43-34. Cool thing about palindromic final scores is the point differential is always equal to the difference of the digits of one of the scores multiplied by 9. So if you're weird like me and are into both palindromes and scorigamis, that was a pretty cool result.
@@lightyagami3492 I remember a MISERABLE game between the Dolphins and Steelers in 2007. The field had been used that weekend for a high school championship game, and then a college game. The ground was so trashed that the crew, I guess, panicked, and just laid down a new layer of sod on top of the old one. This might have worked out okay, but then it rained just before game time. The field was a literal swamp. There was a kickoff or punt, I forget which, and the ball literally didn't bounce when it hit the turf. It just sunk into the muck. The offenses seemed completely helpless, and as it got late into the game, I snapped. Instead of rooting for my team, I was just rooting for a 0-0 tie. With 17 seconds left the Steelers managed to get deep into Dolphins territory and seal a 3-0 victory, with a field goal. Not only did I lose the chance to see a 0-0 tie (what would have been the first in over 60 years), my team lost the game in one of the most unwatchable, yet strangely fascinating games in NFL history. Actually, if there was any game that had a plausible chance at the as-of-yet unacheived 4-0 score in the 21st century, that was probably it.
As a Seahawks fan, I was impressed with the unbeaten scorigami streak, then I did a little searching. Pete Carroll actually has one scorigami loss, a 34-18 loss to the Falcons, just weeks after his first Seahawk scorigami against the Cardinals. www.pro-football-reference.com/boxscores/201012190sea.htm I'm guessing though that based on how this is being talked about, it stops being scorigami once another game has matched that final score. Because the other games Carroll has coached and gotten scorigami remain the only time a game has ended with those scores.
Notes for other sports: In rugby union since 1992 (the last time they changed the scoring), tries (equivalent to touchdowns) have been worth 5 points, conversions (free kicks at the goal after tries) are worth 2 points and all other goals are worth 3 points. There have been a few teams that have scored exactly 5 points, but a 5-all draw may never have happened at the top level (missed conversions aren't incredibly common, and both teams only scoring one unconverted try is rare). With rugby league, things are a bit more interesting: tries are worth 4 points, conversions and penalty kicks are worth 2 points and field goals are worth 1 point. Since the latter method is so uncommon and rarely useful, I can imagine a score of 3-1 being practically unheard of. With cricket, runs are scored a lot and in groups of 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6, so scorigamis are extremely likely and the only interesting results are really large/small scores... and very close games. There have only been two ties and one draw with the scores level (i.e. they ran out of time when a team was just about to win). Australia has also lost matches by exactly one run and exactly two runs. (I'm referring to Test cricket here, but the same stuff applies to other formats.)
Field goals in rugby league are actually pretty common during the overtime since the main rule is 'whoever scores the point first wins'. The rarest thing in rugby is probably the penalty shootout and boy, that is both intense and weirdly funny at the same time.
For test cricket, I'd say given there are four innings, team scores ranging from 50 to 700 and possibilities of declarations that every game is likely to be a scorigami. It's more notable if the score is exactly the same as a previous game. There's also been less than 3000 Test matches.
Probably because point differentials can technically be used to determine playoff entry and seeding and there can't be a single point scored in a game, but there can be just a safety.
At 0:04 I saw something so beautiful. The Browns won, and then it got exed out. Oh yeah, it was an example of a impossible score, so true.😭 Edit: I’m a browns fan and it happened!! Omg yayayyayay
This video is 5 years old, I'm amazed I can't find any comments about this... at 9:19 Jon talks about the six-point touchdown that he's marked with a seven-point piece.
The craziest part about that 40-39 scorigami imo is that the same score has happened one time since then… and it was in the Cowboys-falcons game where the falcons players stood around the ball on an onside kick and let the cowboys recover it. The score 40-39 has happened twice in NFL history, and BOTH TIMES it was due to an absolutely absurd choke leading to a game winning field goal
But why would any team try to go for 2 if they just scored a touchdown and they're up 6 - 0? And then it would have to remain 6 - 1 for the remainder of the game. I think it's safe to say it'll never happen.
@@whirlingstars Yeah, anything-1 would be shocking, but for 10-1 to happen, not only would you need the defensive 1pt, you would need two other safeties.
14:47 John Bois: One of the most bizarre finishes of all time resulted in a score that might never happen again Atlanta Falcons Special Teams: Hold my beer.

Imo the saddest possible occurrence would be if a team went up 10-1, which can only be done with a touchdown + safety PAT and 2 safeties, just for the losing team to kick a field goal, resulting in a 10-4 score, *_the only 4 point score to ever happen before_*
Let the record show, that on the night of October 14 2018, The Patriots defeated the Chiefs by a score of, for the first time in NFL history, 43 - 40. Edit: Scorigami number 1043.
@@tommyl.dayandtherunaways820 I think it's largely because soccer games are pretty short. They play for 90 minutes with no commercial breaks or timeouts. American football and baseball games last 3 hours minimum, with much of that time being spent waiting for play to resume. Once you start watching soccer and get used to play happening pretty much nonstop, it's pretty hard to go back and watch sports where the clock keeps stopping.
Some kicker, maybe Tucker, this year suggested 1 point for kicking the ball through the uprights on a kickoff. So there may actually be hope for 1-0 after all!!
greenbay champ they should do that but bring the touch back up to the 30s. Imagine a tie game at the last minute, when a kicker kicks it through the uprights on kickoff. If I was on the losing end of that I would be hella pissed 😂 And also, would it count for the 1 point and a touch back? Because if not, than a team can just try to kick it through the uprights every time
RetroGamingNow Have you heard of something called a "fair-catch kick"? It basically means that if you make a fair catch, you can kick a field goal from the spot of the catch, and the defense has to stay 10 yards away as with a kickoff. The rules specifically distinguish a fair-catch kick from a kickoff, and you can't use a tee for it. Now, it is common for a punt to end up beyond the receivers' 35, so a fair-catch kick is sometimes easier than kicking a field goal on kickoff. You already can't defend a fair-catch kick.
I'm gonna be *that guy* and comment on this video immediately after an important event happens. 40-39 just happened again. Dallas Cowboys over Atlanta Falcons, Sep 20, 2020.

10/24/2021 Cardinals 31 - Texans 5 LET'S GO BOYS, A RARE 5 POINTER HAS TAKEN PLACE! (And my Cards won again, but I was low key more interested to see if the Scoragami would actually happen haha... Texans had 5 in the first quarter and the Cards had 0 so the odds of 31-5 happening had to be astronomically low after Q1)
UPDATE: The 1 pt safety got wayyyyy, wayyyy closer to happening than ever before. In the Bengals Ravens game, 9 seconds left in the 1st half, Burrow throws an interception on a two point conversion attempt to Hamilton. Hamilton runs down the field, breaking several tackles, but is brought down at the seven yard line. Hamilton drops the ball out of bounds. You won't see this on the play-by-play, there was a flag and it was called back. But had the ball been fumbled into the endzone, and recovered by the Bengals by falling on the ball, and there was no flag, this would have been a one point safety.

I'm surprised 8-7 has never happened
Everyone always wants to win in overtime, not risk losing 6-7.
Best way for it to happen would be, team A scores safety (2-0), team B scores TD with PAT (2-7), team A scores TD goes for 2 to go up 3 and fails (8-7), then holds team B scoreless the rest of the game.
Or both teams get a TD but one team misses the PAT.

Who else really wants to see a 6-1 final?

The most unlikely score I can imagine is 10-1. It's just like the 6-1, but the team that scores a touchdown also needs 2 safeties.
Austin Eastwood wow that was smart
No they can score touchdown extra point and get a field goal ten isn’t that unlikely
Nvm I take back what I said because the way they achieve the one is with the attempted 2 point conversion
Austin Eastwood nah 4-1 win in ot or 4-4 tie

Pete Carroll is still the scorigami wizard. Seahawks win the scorigami 43-16
they acknowledge it, too, in 710 espn seattle's "pete carroll show", which is here on youtube. :)
As a Seahawks fan, I was impressed with the unbeaten scorigami streak, then I did a little searching. Pete Carroll actually has one scorigami loss, a 34-18 loss to the Falcons, just weeks after his first Seahawk scorigami against the Cardinals.
www.pro-football-reference.com/boxscores/201012190sea.htm
I'm guessing though that based on how this is being talked about, it stops being scorigami once another game has matched that final score. Because the other games Carroll has coached and gotten scorigami remain the only time a game has ended with those scores.
Notes for other sports:
In rugby union since 1992 (the last time they changed the scoring), tries (equivalent to touchdowns) have been worth 5 points, conversions (free kicks at the goal after tries) are worth 2 points and all other goals are worth 3 points.

Pro Skill Gaming that’s not normal
Forfeits are scored as a 2-0 score because safeties are not awarded to any player but instead to a team
then why not make it 1-0, thatd be a perfect way to make it a possible score
Probably because point differentials can technically be used to determine playoff entry and seeding and there can't be a single point scored in a game, but there can be just a safety.

2-2 or 3-2 is an exciting game in soccer haha
@@tommyl.dayandtherunaways820 I think it's largely because soccer games are pretty short. They play for 90 minutes with no commercial breaks or timeouts. American football and baseball games last 3 hours minimum, with much of that time being spent waiting for play to resume. Once you start watching soccer and get used to play happening pretty much nonstop, it's pretty hard to go back and watch sports where the clock keeps stopping.
The thing that always gets me about this video is the scorigami wasn’t even the focus. He made that up to explain how 6-1 could happen

greenbay champ HOORAY!
He's already done it before it just never counted because that means its out of bounds
greenbay champ they should do that but bring the touch back up to the 30s. Imagine a tie game at the last minute, when a kicker kicks it through the uprights on kickoff. If I was on the losing end of that I would be hella pissed 😂
And also, would it count for the 1 point and a touch back? Because if not, than a team can just try to kick it through the uprights every time
greenbay champ it was jim harbough he said it should be 1 point
RetroGamingNow Have you heard of something called a "fair-catch kick"? It basically means that if you make a fair catch, you can kick a field goal from the spot of the catch, and the defense has to stay 10 yards away as with a kickoff. The rules specifically distinguish a fair-catch kick from a kickoff, and you can't use a tee for it.
Now, it is common for a punt to end up beyond the receivers' 35, so a fair-catch kick is sometimes easier than kicking a field goal on kickoff. You already can't defend a fair-catch kick.
