Let me make something clear:
Legendary and Toho are NOT rivals. None of them are competing against each other to make better Godzilla films. If anything they’re making Godzilla films TOGETHER.
Legendary are grabbing people who love and care about Godzilla and Kong so that way the films are being made by people who know what the other fans want and know what they’re doing.
Now they’re highlighting the tone of earlier Toho movies which is something that Toho would most definitely appreciate. Heck they love the Monsterverse because that’s what it’s doing. Tackling all sides of Godzilla.
Minus One was never made in an attempt to embarrass Hollywood. They just wanted to remake the original 1954 version to remind the fans where the character came from before his 70th anniversary hits this year.
Overall, Legendary and Toho love each other and the Godzilla films each side is making.

I think toho sticking to serious and legendary sticking to fun and monster fights is the best thing they should do
That's why Godzilla franchise is very good at the first place, it's very versatile because it can be used for alot of things, be it goofy rubber suit kaiju fighting, or an horrifying creation of humanity recklessness on nuclear weapons
It's just how the writers and directors execute it, no matter how stupid or depressing Godzilla is, good writing will always makes it better
That is called balance, even if you like more the serious and grounded Godzilla there will be other films with a more funny and silly Godzilla to enjoy and vice versa

Yet another RUclipsr who watched Minus One and is suddenly a Godzilla expert. Clowns like this don’t even realize that Godzilla had his own Cinematic Universe in the 60s during the Showa era. He was literally the first character to get one. He was also made into a good guy in all of those movies. If he was only just a dark and depressing character, he would’ve been forgotten long ago. Hell, the director of Minus One liked the New Empire and the MonsterVerse so much that he wants to have Godzilla fight another monster if he makes a Minus One sequel.
You definitely were one of those people who thought they knew everything about Batman after watching the Dark Knight Trilogy.

I remember a lot of old Godzilla movies in the late 60's and 70's that totally anthromorphisized Godzilla. He boxed and shuffled his feet like Muhammad Ali, he did little victory dances and he even had a son for comedy relief.

Monsterverse Godzilla didn't Marvelise. Legendary went back to the Showa and Heisei Godzilla-style films, many of which were directed by the original 54' Godzilla director who actually approved of and enjoyed directing them all. The Legendary movies aren't disrespecting Godzilla and becoming trend chasers by copying Marvel, because everything in the Legendary films is nothing that hasn't already been done in previous Godzilla films. Legendary are just following a very noble Godzilla tradition that's been established by Toho themselves.
I dislike how in 0:52 you leave out the entire Showa, Heisei and most of the Millennium era of Godzilla movies, as these are entirely Japanese Godzilla movies that 'marvelised' before the MCU was a thing. The legendary films are just fine, though you're right about the issues of Hollywood CGI, but the films themselves are as Godzilla as any other purely Japanese Godzilla movie.
They left them out on purpose because it destroys their entire argument and shows they have no idea what they’re talking about.
I totally agree with you. I usually enjoy Moon's videos due to his thorough research and in depth knowledge on the topics that he talks abt. Same cant be said to this one unfortunately. I've watched his videos long enough to know that he would change his videos' titles after an hour or two they went live. I usually don't mind, but the initial title of this video was clickbait because it implied that GxK would "destroy" Marvel's movies like Invincible or The Boys that he used to cover. But in fact, he talked abt how the Monsterverse is "becoming more Marvel". Thankfully, he alr changed the title, but having that title in the first place made me question his credibility onwards. I just find funny when he has problem with Monsterverse Godzilla fighting other monsters to maintain balance - the concept that Toho had been having Heisei Godzilla do for years. I don't see the difference between Heisei Godzilla fighting against Ghidorah or Hedorah to save the planet he lives on and Legendary Godzilla fighting Shimu and Scar King. The difference is their opponentsr and MV Godzilla teamed up with Kong with remaining the same concept. Plus, the MV never portrays Godzilla as a hero. He wrecked cities and killed thousands of innocent lives, but he simply maintained the balance by fending off calamitic monsters which makes him more of the necessary evil or a force of nature. Kong was portrayed more heroic due to his empathy towards mankind, but he still wrecked cities like Godzilla did. Legendary made this theme very obvious, and I'm flabbergasted that he glossed over this theme. Tbh, I don't really care if the Monsterverse becoming more "Marvel". At the end of the day, I want to enjoy good monster fights posing real threats to Kong and Godzilla (the thing he unironically bitched abt the recent Marvel and Star Wars movies not having enough of). I think the new movie will turn out great imo, because Legendary actually came up with their own antagonists monsters to fight against Godzilla and Kong instead of relying too much in Toho's IPs. I just hope that humans actually have a more significant in the GxK (or not that's just my wishful thinking).
TLDR: MV didn't portray Godzilla as a hero, he's portrayed as a force of nature in the narrative of MV by keeping dangerous monsters in check. MV, Toho, Godzilla and Kong fans alike only want to see their favorite atomic lizard and gauntlet-wielding ape fighting other monsters together. Moon has problem with Star Wars and Marvel movies offering low stakes for protagonists, and yet he's here bitching abt a movie that's not even out and his argument is MV becoming more "Marvel" just because Godzilla and Kong are fighting potentially more dangerous monsters that can spell doom to human civilizations and their planet.
The first cinematic universe technically was created by Godzilla with films like destroy all monsters and final wars a giant collaboration of multiple characters in one movie as a conclusion or finale to a saga. The mcu didn't create this phenomenon firs.t

The axe still did some damage as it was made from the ancestors of Godzilla during the war made by the apes to fight them. Gozilla x Kong is a movie that cares about its fanbase and not for the critics. We need more of that
Depends on which era of fanbase though. Personally, I think a perfect Godzilla/Kong movie has a mixture of the story and character development of Minus One, but with far more action. The New Empire is just way too stupid in my opinion. And it’s funny how people complain about the MCU failing, but then they’ll lower the standards for this movie

Godzilla 1954 went from dark and gloomy to goofy in king Kong vs godzilla 1962 till DAM and switch it up again in 1984 where godzilla is dark and gloomy again.
If they didn't changed the genre, godzilla franchise would've died after raids again 1955 and there will be no minus one.

Monsterverse and Minus are completely different .The creators of Monsterverse were inspired by the old movies like Godzilla vs kong showing the rivalry between whereas minus one focuses on the horror aspects of Godzilla. Comparing them would be like complaining why MCU Spiderman isn't more like Tobey Maguires Spiderman .
Monsterverse is more about the lore of the titans and their roles especially Godzilla who's the one brings balance to the natural order.

The Monsterverse films have become dumber and dumber with each subsequent release, but they always remained fun and entertaining. Anyone who paid to see them received *exactly* what the films advertised: loud and proud monster fights. That's what Marvel Studios lost sight of since Endgame. Instead of giving people what they want, they're giving people what they *think* people want, or what Marvel Studios thinks the people *ought* to want.
Not only that if you compare the animation movements from 2014 to 2021 Godzilla vs Kong you can see that in 2014 the monsters movements are pretty slow but in the 2021 Godzilla vs Kong you will notice that the movements for these monsters are much faster

@@adamw9021 Eh, I think that's not a good thing. In Godzilla 2014, his movements being slow and laboured made sense for a creature that big. Seeing him become more agile and graceful, to the point of running like an athlete with pumping fists (in GxK), looks silly. Something that big shouldn't be so quick.

@@DoomRulz That's what many Godzilla and Kong fans commenting on Godzilla x Kong trailer videos don't seem to get. Since the very first trailer, I was put off by how the scale shifts when the monsters are interacting with humans vs when they're showing only the monsters, especially at the end where they run towards the camera. Yes, it's happening inside Hollow Earth, which is huge, but it doesn't change the fact that it looks goofy. I'm sure it will be enjoyable, but it's crazy how sudden of a shift it is in the movement speed of those monsters, even when compared to Godzilla vs Kong.
Last time I checked, Toho actively encouraged the West to make Godzilla movies. My brother in Christ, they gave Legendary the damn license!

It's very likely a way to help them get noticed in the RUclips Algorithm, as Godzilla × Kong is coming soon to theaters. But also a lot of videos on something new has a negative view on them, whether it's warranted or not varies, but being negative also gets views. And there's the chance where they want something to be as well beloved as Minus One was, but forgetting that Godzilla's versatility is why he's still relevant to this day

@@WholesomeVolibear I think critics also didn't realize in Godzilla King of the Monsters where they did an excellent job of making sure both the humans and the monsters get a similar amount of screen time. It's something I felt right after the movie ended and I walked out, and this channel called Filmento that analyses movies came out with a video a couple of weeks later praising the exact same thing. Yes, the human moments could have been fewer, but the balance between humans and monsters was done very well and the characters were also enjoyable without being as unserious and comedic as they were in Godzilla vs Kong.

Fr though, Moon is one of those critics who would lambaste movie remakes other than Godzilla -1 and calling them half-assed or soulless. Tbf, I don't necessarily have problems w/ classic remakes if they are made with care and respect for source materials like Maverick 1 or even Godzilla -1. Remaking a godd movie that can be shown to the latter generations is something I'm all for. The problem that I take issue is his hypocrisy, he took issues with other movie remakes for telling the same stories, but proceeding to dickride Godzilla -1 when it tells exactly the same stories abt 1954 Godzilla, but I think the fans like it just because it is the 70th anniversary of the character. Plus, how many stories like Godzilla-1 or Shin Godzilla do we need until the Godzilla IP gets saturated? Legendary not only respects source material, but also the MV's worldbuilding is pretty unique because the concept of hollow earth has not been explored b4 which these critics like Moon fail to see that, smh. They even feature the Toho Big 5 as an homage to Toho fans which nullifies his soulless remakes argument (but I'd prefer Legendary coming with their own monsters for their future projects because MV is an independent franchise, and i want it to succeed on its own feet). I think I can say it for everyone that Godzilla has to be one of the most versatile IPs I've ever seen in the fictional work yet severely underutilized. It's literally the lowest rated MV film based on reviews from general audiences on IMDB. Hardcore Godzilla fans will say it's their favorite because KOTM has a lot of fan service and they have a higher tolerance for terrible human characters since that's mostly the norm for Godzilla films. But hardcore Godzilla fans are a niche audience. General audiences do not have an easy time sitting through a film that is 75% boring human characters. KOTM is simply a film that doesn't have a lot to offer for people who aren't already old school Godzilla fans.

The reason Godzilla is so successful is because it works in coexistence with various stories. I mean take invasion of Astro monsters, who knew Godzilla and Rodan would be fighting against ghidorah on an alien planet and then Godzilla doing a victory dance, or Godzilla final wars, it appears serious but it’s actually pretty enjoyable and fun.

If one prefers the more serious ones like Minus One, Shin, and the original, then that makes sense. Making this a false dichotomy between Toho and Legendary is silly though when you know how goofy and unsophisticated _alot_ of the Toho films were.
If Toho keeps making stuff like Minus One and Legendary keeps reimagining the Showa era, that would be great since all aspects of the character would continue to be manifested. Godzilla as hero/defender of Earth has been around way before the Legendary movies.

Because as long as major studios are producing garbage big budget movies with lazy CGI and DEI agendas we won't get quality movies. Marvel phase 1 and 2 created some decent films but the past 4 years has been insufferable. The 90s was a decade that produced so many amazing movies that people still watch. This decade has produced mostly disposable drivel that isn't even liked when it's released let alone 30 years from now. Hollywood needs to get back to making movies that people want to see and avoid forcing ideological messages disguised as escapist entertainment.

I don't get why people are flipping tables over GxK when the Showa era does the same thing.(I like the Showa era, just using it to show the franchise has been silly and wacky)

Godzilla minus one is such a blessing & a curse for the franchise.
Yes it is without a doubt a great movie but that also caused a lot of people to drop all these horrible takes on godzilla without doing any research at all.
