It's odd how you can love someone you never met, and grieve their absence, even though you were never physically near them. This the power of the artist, especially those who speak directly to us, through music or theatre and movies. Robin Williams was one of those, and I will always miss his gentle and profoundly wise presence.
I feel the same. It's been almost a decade since he's passed, and I still feel a hit to my heart when I'm reminded he's no longer with us. Robin Williams will not only be one of the greatest actors, but also one of the best people I've known.
It took me several years before I could watch his films again, I just got so sad. Watching someone else enjoy and appreciate his talent is a nice way to see him again, I really like these reactions.
Yes! I think the game took an in-game character & added to it based on Alan's fears. After all, the game can transport you into its own pocket dimension, so pretty sure it can scan your mind. The description said "makes you feel like a child" & immediately Alan knew it meant the game character that reminds him of his dad, because he always felt small & unheard, never good enough for his dad.
@@flaysol7719Well yeah years. We were all kids so we weren’t the sharpest, and the guy’s just such a great actor he really seems like two different people. Trust me, I guarantee if you rewatch a movie you haven’t seen since you were a kid, you’re gonna pick up on a lot of obvious things you missed.
@@williamhardee8863 i was a kid in the 90s myself. We watched this in theatres and in the classroom. We all knew it was the same actor. And it was his dad. Maybe just YOU weren't the sharpest kid. Cause many of us kids Got it right away. Maybe you should just speak for yourself lol.🤦
I love too that Alan's talking to his dad on the phone, at the Christmas party. Showing he was still very alive, but when they played Jumanji, the father and mother were both passed on by that point. It really shows what a broken heart does to your longevity. He had his son and was still doing just fine (hopefully the mom too)
So, to answer your question: Van Pelt is not Alan's dad, but he is supposed symbol his dad, for a reason. When he was a kid, Alan, not only had problems with his strict dad, but he always ran away from the problems he caused, like at the shoe factory when he put the shoe on the conveyor belt, and instead of taking accountability, he let Carl take the blame and let him get fired. So in a way, Alan was pretty much a coward. But when he gets trapped in the game for 26 years, he actually begins to regret all his past actions and what he said to his father. So when Van Pelt shows up, it gives Alan this big chance of redemption and standing up to his fears and problems. Alan runs away at first (Which symbolizes him running away from the problems with his dad) when Van Pelt shoots at him. But by the end of the movie, when Van Pelt holds Alan at gunpoint, Alan, instead of running away, finally has learned about responsiblity and has enough courage to stand up to his fears, finish the game, go back in time, and hope for the best between him and his father (Who also had a change of heart when he realized how much he mistreated and scared him). In fact, Van Pelt and Alan's dad are both played by the same actor, Jonathan Hyde, who also portrayed J. Bruce Ismay in "Titanic", the mustache dude who convinced the captain to make the ship go faster despite the icebergs.
RIP, Robin Williams. He made this movie a fun experience. The film was a box office success, making $275 million dollars against a $70 million dollar budget. Roger Ebert gave this movie a negative review, complaining about the PG rating, stating that "its too dark and scary for kids that it should gotten a PG-13 rating instead."
I’ve seen jumanji so many times and was always like “oh yeah, don’t worry, it’s not like a pack of wolves can kill you” but recently it finally hit me why he said that. A pack of wolves is nothing compared to what they went through playing this game.
The first gun Van Pelt had when he came out of the game was a modified *Winchester Model 1901* for the movie. When he goes to the gun store he got a *Daewoo USAS-12* that has a scope, drum magazine, a suppressor, and I think a extended barrel to make it look like a sniper rifle.
I never put it together the dozens of other times I watched this movie but, the guy at the beginning saying "don't worry, it's just a pack of wolves" is very indicative of what kind of animal threats they had recently been dealing with lol
I adore this movie. I was dead set against the reboot with Dwayne Johnson and watched it determined to hate it. I ended up loving it too. That being said, nothing will compare to Robin's original. Ever. ♥ Also, J, once again proving I'd feel safe leaving my kids with you. 🤣

Van Pelt (the Hunter) comes out of the game with a modified Winchester 1901 Shotgun. From the gun store, he gets a *heavily* modified Daewoo USAS-12. And you are correct. Jonathan Hyde does indeed play both Alan'a father and Van Pelt the hunter.
If I'd made this film I'd probably have given him a Martini-Henry when he comes out of the game, that's a real "Africa gun" with an intimidatingly large bore, but eh, the one he has still looks the part.
I always thought the gun that Van Pelt first used was an elephant gun. The spent cartridge that he gives the dude at the gun store definitely isn't a shotgun shell, anyway.
David Alan Greer...If you haven't seen his range... hilarious in "Boomerang" with Martin and Eddie, and disturbingly wicked in "Tales From the Hood" with Clarence Williams, Joe Torry, etc..

The was a cartoon show in which the kids would go into Jumanji and I think Alan lived inside it. It was weird and remembering it feels like a fever dream
That show also made Van Pelt much worse a being. In one episode they sneak into his domicile to sneak something out, and he snaps out of sleep only to go back thinking it was his maid. He then woke and snapped quick awak when he realized in anger "Hold on, I shot her last week" And then there's the game attempting to "replace" him.
Whenever I’m with people and we see something odd, I always say ‘you just saw X, right?’ And when they respond yes, I always say ‘good answer.’ I know I took it from this, this was my favorite line in the movie.

Both of the rifles in this film were created by the prop dept. the newer one does have a real rifle as its base but is heavy on modifications. the first one is probably based on something like a 4 bore or 8 bore- most of those are double barrels like the hunter in Jurrasic park 2, in the days of black powder you had some limitations, there was a point where just adding more powder didn't do anything to add velocity with black powder you cap out at about 1200 fps after that you are just wasting powder. SO they made the bullet bigger for hunting large dangerous game. a 4 bore is bigger than an 8 bore, 4 = 1 inch diameter bullet 8 bore .83 inch diameter so a very big chunk of lead
Some of the CGI is a little dated, that said it still all these years later has aged so well. The practical effects, animatronics, puppets and whatever else was used looks fucking amazing
Its the thing about good stories even if the effects of the time don't hold up today a good story will encourage you to overlook it while if its all about the effects there's no reason to rewatch. There's a number of old asian films I love where you can literally see the wires on modern TV but the story still brings me back.
My theory is the kids don’t remember them at the end because it hasn’t reached the time period it all happened yet. I feel this is the case because the parents were talking about taking a trip to the same place they died in the original timeline. I believe that the kids might remember everything that happened after time catches up with the date of them meeting.
24:55 yes it is! im so glad you caught this, most people don't. They did it to emphasize the "battle" between him and his father. Just something for the audience to go "oh interesting."
I'm never quite sure how I feel about time being reset. It takes away Judy and Peter's adventure and also everyone having to deal with what happened. I wouldn't have minded their just going on from where they were.
Grew up watching this movie and playing the awesome board game. And the older I got, that "father to son" scene at the end of the movie just made me cry more and more.
One of my favorite laugh track sitcoms remains the Bonnie hunt show life with Bonnie. David Alan Grier is on it, and they are so funny together. I believe it was three seasons.
This rewatch reminds me how phenomenal this movie is. I can equate it to "chatty chitty" as far as awe and impact. "Jumanji" to me is as "bedknobs and broomsticks" is to my mom.
I grew up with this movie. So nostalgia keeps bringing me back. It's the same with Deep Blue Sea (1999), which I think you'd enjoy. Nothing special about it, it's not Oscar material. It's just some chilling, you can watch it in any state without having to take it too seriously. And I feel Jumanji is a bit like that too.

@@crazyape515 oh yeeeaa i do recall that show, it felt like the beetle juice cartoon. not bad but a lil cringe haha
That show also made Van Pelt much worse a being. In one episode they sneak into his domicile to sneak something out, and he snaps out of sleep only to go back thinking it was his maid.
He then woke and snapped quick awak when he realized in anger "Hold on, I shot her last week"
And then there's the game attempting to "replace" him.
OMG! Not the Danny Glover knees!!! LOL!

Whenever I’m with people and we see something odd, I always say ‘you just saw X, right?’ And when they respond yes, I always say ‘good answer.’ I know I took it from this, this was my favorite line in the movie.
Love the shirt. “For me, it was Tuesday.”🤣
What’s funny is because of my nostalgia for this movie, I didn’t want to watch the newer jumanjis. I finally gave in last year and I enjoyed them both. Can’t wait until you check those out too.
Another great film with Robin Williams is "What Dreams May Come " but make sure you have a box of tissues!
Kirsten Dunst was awesome in "The Interview With A Vampire"
This is my favourite Robin Williams film and awesome reaction.
One of my favorite, I’ll never forget the first time I saw this when I was a kid. Scared the crap outta me 😂😂
You cannot be serious. Nobody was even killed in this movie. So predictable.
@@azazello1784 dawg I was 5
@@joshfuller772 you're valid mate, I saw this film older than that and it still scared the hell out of me. a-holes trawling the comment section just to shit on people need an actual hobby. hope you have a gr9 day 😁
@@subtlesraf thanks for having my back lmao
Same
I laugh every time you say "Shut the **** up" in your videos 🤣🤣🤣
Keep doing great man 👍🏿
Loved your reaction to this, you should also check out the 2 sequels to this, Jumanji: welcome to the jungle and Jumanji: the next level they're both really good
they're not sequels jsyk
@@subtlesrafOh thank you the person that thinks they know it all. Trying to make someone who just made a simple statement feel dumb. If they weren't sequels by your definition they could be the other people. The name was there. The game was there but just in a different format. Just pointing out that you didn't even need to respond to this innocent comment which most people would probably agree with. JERK
@@subtlesraf I think they're meant to be, not direct sequels but continuing the story definately as you see this jumanji board game at the start of the first one. Like Scream V and VI are sequels to Scream even though only one of the original actors is still part of the franchise.
@@liamwarner5749 ah ok, fair point!
30:00 his screaming is the most hilarious scream in all of cinema for me!😂🤣😂 Thank you for keeping it in the reaction, and I'm so happy you found it as funny as I do!
P.S. I hope before you do the sequels, i hope you do the sort of sequel (or, as I like to call it, Jumanji's cousin) "Zathura." It's pretty good, too
Jumanji in SPACE
We really need a prequel movie with the kids back in the 1800s playing the game and an actual origin story for the game
That would be cool. Start writing. 💪🏼
@@patticriss2238 I also want a sequel to fight Club where we see Tyler's back story and we can see through his eyes cause we have no clue what Tyler is doing off screen I know we see the end results of what happens but i wanna see where Tyler learned all that stuff in a preinternet world see Tyler's dad and his college days, and while we at it we need a bob and Marla back story as well
@@Raven5150 there ya go. Write is fine movie scripts.
I have seen this film so many times as a child and an adult..
And I have only just realised Alans dad also plays huntsman 😂
“Oh he’s a monkey”, classic, great review this movie holds up year after year….😅
I seriously forgot how funny this movie actually was🤣🤣
Funniest fucking reaction comment EVER: "State Farm gonna be poppin in the morning" 😹😹😹🤪
Childhood film. RIP Robin Williams.
"It's gotta be microchips or something."
"Nah folk, that's Satan"
lmao
Some of the CGI is a little dated, that said it still all these years later has aged so well. The practical effects, animatronics, puppets and whatever else was used looks fucking amazing
Its the thing about good stories even if the effects of the time don't hold up today a good story will encourage you to overlook it while if its all about the effects there's no reason to rewatch. There's a number of old asian films I love where you can literally see the wires on modern TV but the story still brings me back.
I love this movie. The entire cast is superb.
David Alan Grier is hilarious in everything ive seen him in
He's not hilarious in Tales From The Hood, but he gives a great performance.
I always thought there was something about the hunter I couldn't put my finger on. 2 decades later.....ITS HIS DAD!!
"It's got to be microchips..." Nah, that's Satan. lol
Fantastic reaction ❤😊it’s been awhile since I’ve seen this. Loved it. Thanks for the fun re-watch 😊
I thought the expressions on the kids faces when Alan and Sarah yelled no to their parents trip, looked like they remembered.
This is the first time watching the movie that I noticed the man who played Robin Williams looks like he’s also playing the rile of the hunter.
A movie that has always been dear to my heart...Thanks for reacting..When my Man is floating down the street and see`s the alligator and screams...That is an all time funny scene.
I lost my daughter for a total of 10 minutes, it was the most awful anxiety induceing experience i have ever had. She had went around the corner to play with kids next door. I swear i couldn't breathe breathe! Fantastic reaction as always. ❤
I’m ashamed to say it took me dozens of times to watch this movie before I realize the hunter is the same actor as his dad lol love this movie
I love how nobody is like, "Maybe we should play this game outside". Would solve so many problems.
A great childhood film of mine.
This movie is amazing! I miss robin very much, one of the best actors ever in my world. Great work jay and blank!
Carl's police car is the character who most suffered in this movie! hahahahaha XD
Last action hero is absolutely amazing ❤
I remember my grandpa took my sister and I to go see Cutthroat Island but it was sold out so we saw this instead, I think we got the better deal
The little girl Sara as an adult is played by the actress Bonnie Hunt
30:04 one of the best scenes. Lol
Classic movie. Hope you are having an great and awesome day ❤
FUN FACT! Johnathan Hyde Plays The Father Of Alan Parish and also The Hunter After Alan Parish! I was 99.9 % sure that he played both people but just to make sure I looked up the movie on Wikipedia!!!
Yeah, the kids could have had dreams about the adventure or something. There is always a way around it.
I always been fascinated by the power of the game and how it stops time. Like Zolter in Big. Where did it come from.
Your reaction at 34:21 XD
I always ALWAYS crack up whenever Van Pelt first comes out of the game and starts chasing Alan and says "You miserable coward! Come back and face me like a man" as he is shooting an unarmed man..shidddd what the mf expect? You got a rifle!! 😂😂
gonna end up part of the circle of life had me rolling great reaction!
Man O' man, I have a sweet pooch of my own. I love your family of dogs always behind you!!! Enjoy watching the cutbacks from the movie and watch how they are behaving. Thanks! 🙂
Great Value Crocodile Dundee! LOL! 😆
Loved this reaction! Thanks J, thanks Blank.😊💚
Sorry I missed the premiere....but I'm glad the poll vote won bc I voted for Jumanji. Such a modern classic.😊💚
Congratulations on the new apartment my man!
I forgot how extremely powerful the Jumanji game is, made worse by its escapees trying to steal the game. It’s not quite Pandora’s Box or even the One Ring, but it’s pretty apocalyptic lol.
this movies practical and digital effects were so good, i also have the miniature version of this board game, i wanted the full size replica but that was too expensive
Where did you get the shirt? I was wondering why Raul Julia’s hat was over his eyes on your shirt til I realized it was just creased over lol. I want one of those shirts now so bad.
One of my favorite movies! about to watch this reaction now. So excited!
JL and his hitchhiker knowledge 😂😂😂
"Ain't that his pops, though?"
Same actor, different character.
David A-G was also that reporter in I'm Gonna Get You Sucka, who liked Springsteen! 😂
