I'm proud, I donated all my toys to my family doctor's office. They still have them there to this day, almost 30 years later. It's amazing to go in and see kids playing with my old toys in the waiting area.
Well.... there's also the theory she's either widowed or divorced. With the second theory that she got buzz to get rid of the last memory of his father. Woody
I love that no one notices that, when Woody is under the milk crate at Sid's, he's sitting next to the US Army improvised interrogation manual, complete with the correct TM number. It's a great Easter egg.
This movie really holds up. I loved it as a kid, and I can appreciate it even more as an adult. It's definitely one of the greatest animated movies of all time. Also your comments on Mr Potato Head had me dying. 😂
I always assumed Buzz froze in place because everyone else did it, so he thought it was part of the culture or a way to survive on the "planet". I had never thought of the idea of which toy was Andy's favorite before Woody. I think Woody was his dad's toy (you'll learn in the second movie the toy has origins dating back farther than a kid Andy's age would be interested) and his dad died when he was really young, which is why he keeps Woody for so long. Also adds a subtle extra emotional punch in the third movie.
i think he still has the instinct to do it even though he thinks he's real, cause as woody implies he had to break the rules to get sid back and that was obviously letting him know toys are alive, so it must be a programmed instinct cause it's a rule.
Man… let me tell you right after Woody and Sid’s toys scared the hell out of him in the backyard and you acted like you are Sid talking to a therapist about this and said listen I need all the drugs!!! I was howling with laughter!! You rock man!
"Hey, Buzz! You're flying!" "This isn't flying, this is falling with style!" "To infinity and beyond!" Fun Fact: This was the first animated film in Oscar history to be nominated for a Best Screenplay Academy Award - Adapted or Original. Method Animation Fact: The animation team perfected the movement of the toy soldiers by nailing a pair of sneakers to a sheet of wood and trying to walk around with them on. Stealth References Fact: The toolbox on top of the milk crate that Woody (Tom Hanks) is trapped in is a Binford, the same tool brand that Tim Allen used on his television show Home Improvement (1991). The carpet in Sid's (Erik von Detten) house has the same hexagonal pattern as the carpet in the Overlook Hotel from The Shining (1980). Animation Shortcuts Fact: Some 3D effects were too complex, or even impossible, to calculate at the time of this film; subtle tricks are used to avoid them. Examples: explosions, thus the viewer doesn't see Combat Carl's demise; hair dynamics, so Andy, Sid, and Molly all have short hair while Andy's mother's hair is always tied back in a simple-to-model pony tail; and flying water droplets, thus the viewer doesn't see any liquid when Woody dunks his burning head into a bowl of cereal.
The animation shortcuts are still the same ones used in video game shortcuts except for fire and water effects which have improved incredibly. Hair is still impossibly taxing on hardware.
Nothing to say about this iconic masterpiece that hasn't already been said, but here's a PSA for you: Randy Newman is one of the most revered American musicial artists of the past 50 years. He's a 2 time Oscar winner and 7 time Grammy winner, who has one of the most underrated careers in music. For those who hear his name and simply say "he's the Toy Story guy," I encourage you to look into his catalogue and see that he's WAY more than this film ❤
Your comment about Mr Potato Head and the peeler had me laughing to tears 🤣 Also the question about how Buzz knew to freeze if he didn’t know he was a toy was one I’ve been wondering for years. 🤔 *Very* much looking forward to the sequel or anything else from you for that matter 😄

I've seen this movie so many times, but never actually thought about the hostility of mr potato head. I think you are absolutely correct! I think he probably was andy's favorite toy before Woody. That makes total sense!
The 'Toy Story' series is a rare thing, one that knocks it out of the park with EVERY film. And the first still holds up, despite how far the animation has come since.
Randy Newman is a genius. You can’t even fathom this without his soundtrack, it was absolutely perfect. And Mr Potato head got precisely what he deserved. A life sentence.
About the time that Randy Newman's "I Love L.A." single was slowly rising up the Pop charts, He appeared in a TV segment about "his life and times." He wished he had Michael Jackson's money, since his music career wasn't going so great. Then "Toy Story" came along, and Randy Newman not only has "Michael Jackson money," but he's still alive and kicking, unlike "the king of Pop."
Both Toy Story 1 and 2 had development problems that almost caused the movies to not get made. For Toy Story 1, they'd recorded all the main dialog, and were presenting it to studio execs before moving forward to animating, and it got rejected. In the original version, Woody was a lot meaner. Instead of being resentful towards Buzz, he was straight up malicious and hateful. The studio executives hated it, and they had to rewrite the script and redo all the voice acting. Almost none of the original audio has ever been made public.
And I'm sure NONE of us disagree with the studio executives putting their foot down about the change... That decision legit changed history in a GOOD way and it made the audience more relatable to Woody... Plus with the way the other toys started mistreating Woody while praising Buzz played a huge role in his resentment... I've been blessed to watch all 4 movies in theaters... Woody and Buzz (in my opinion) are top 5 all-time as far as greatest duos in cinema history, especially with the excellent chemistry between Tom Hanks and Tim Allen (both global icons) 😎
I often tell people that nothing brings me more joy or makes me happier than a child's laughter. Your laugh, JL, is a very close second. The sheer joy and delight you are experiencing in those moments is infectious, and I thank you very much for that!
"Why do they have burgers at Pizza Planet?" Because kids are fickle. I'll bet they have chicken nuggets/fingers/strips as well. And a shitload of ketchup. Kids love ketchup.
Good ol' Jim Varney. Toy Story 2 was 1 of 3 movies he was in before he died. Man I miss that man. Even though he died of lung cancer due to him being a smoker he never ever smoked in front of his fansor the camera because he didn't want to be a bad influence on his fans because they look up to him. I had a uncle that looked like Jim Varney and he was always goofing around and being silly like an Ernest character too. I remember in the early 90s while he was at Six Flags someone saw him and thought he was Jim Varney and was hollering out "hey look it's Ernest". R.I.P Uncle Joe
Jim Varney was one hell of an actor… did you see Ernest Goes to Jail? He played the villain in that one also and he was completely different from Ernest as the villain
@@nsasupporter7557 yes I've seen that and all of his movies numerous times. Jim Varney played a duel role where he was Ernest and the criminal Nash. I grew up watching all Jim Varney's Ernest stuff in the late 80s and throughout the 90s. I remember his children's TV show Hey Vern it's Ernest. The shorts Hey Vern it's my family album and Your World as I see it. I even remember I remember in the early 90s going over to my uncle's house (oddly enough the one that looks and acts like Ernest) and he had a VHS called Ernest Greatest Hits vol.1 and vol.2 where it was a bunch of old commercials from I believe the 70s and early 80s where Jim Varney's character Ernest first appeared. The first actually movie role Ernest was in was the 1985 movie Dr. Otto and the Riddle of the Gloom Beam where Jim Varney also plays the villain Dr Otto.
because of how new computer animation was at the time, it was far easier to animate toys than humans. All of Andy's friends are andy lol, Sid also looks a lot like him. Just because of how new it was and budget constraints is why all the humans look so similar.
It was a pain in the ass for the animators to create human models back then. So they had to reuse the same models for a lot of the humans instead of making new ones from scratch, and tried their best to show much of Andy’s mom and many of the adults. This is why early Pixar movies didn’t involve much humans until Incredibles.
Except Pixar wasn't part of Disney until 2006 when they were bought out. They then ruined it by churning out sequels and the studio's creativity suffered.
Disney knew how to help kids experience and work through complex feelings in a safe way. Kids need to know about disappointment, failure, death, etc and how to handle it.
great franchise. some of the best line deliveries. I was watching the DVD commentary once, and if I recall correctly, the scene where Woody has a bowling ball fall on his head was redone because Tom Hanks wanted to give a more “appropriate” delivery. the first scene in Sid’s room is done amazingly well.
Thanks for posting this one, JL. This was my first "movie magic" moment that I remember. In fact, there's a nice story behind it. I live in Indiana, and we went to visit my aunt and uncle in Houston for Thanksgiving. This was 1995, so I was eight years old. My mom, aunt, younger brother, and I went to the big multiplex theater and saw Toy Story on the big screen! When Woody and Buzz flew at the end, my mouth was open, and I was awestruck. That was my first "wow" moment in the movies. Years later, my brother and I saw Toy Story 3; we were both in college at the time. Not that there's anything awkward between us (to my knowledge), but it's just that we have different hobbies and interests - it happens. This was one of the things we shared with each other. We had one of our best brother-to-brother conversations in the driveway of our childhood home afterwards. The Toy Story series has brought me some of my best family moments, so I'll always hold it close to my heart.
@JL This will be amazing to see you fall in love with each film. Your comments as you watched were amazingly funny. Thank you to the EOM staff and your amazing patreons
Thank you and Blank so much for your channel. I discovered the channel a month ago and been binge watching the videos. I just lost my mom and your videos are helping me thru. God bless you, Blank and whoever else makes these joyful fun videos.
This movie blew me away when I saw it in the cinema. Back in the 90's we had shows with real life and some CGI. I was sure the toys in this would be CGI and the rest real, but sitting in the cinema I saw that everything was CGI. It was one of the greatest movie experiences of my youth
I love how J hated on Mr. Potato Head 😂. I have some animated movie suggestions: Balto, The Secret of NIMH, All Dogs Go to Heaven, and The Chipmunk Adventure. Any Pixar movie is good too 🙂
When buzz talks to star command and goes why don’t they answer has no right being as funny as it is but I die every time PIXAR MARATHON INCOMING LETS GO
Six minutes in and I can't stop laughing! 😂 I found this channel a few weeks ago and boy am I glad I did! This dude's reactions are just brilliant! So, so funny. Kudos!
J, Slink's country voice was done by Jim Varney, better known as Ernest from all those 80s movies like 'Ernest Goes to Camp' & Jed Clampett from the 90s 'Beverly Hillbillies' movie. He was an All-Star.. R.I.P. Jim..
So glad you loved it! My coworker and I joke that we are Woody (me) and Buzz (her). We dressed up as them for Halloween in the office this year and even filmed ourselves doing the scene where they meet ("There seems to be no sign of intelligent life anywhere"---"Hellooooo!")
Great reaction as always. When this fiest came out, the premise and animation appealed to kids but there was so much more in it that appealed to adults as well. And that continues throughout the franchise. The amount of heart these movies have and the emitions they're able to generate is unbelievable. Really looking forward to seeing you react to more.
I was only 18 years old when this movie was first released in theaters. And it was my first year of College when Toy Story was first released in theaters.
The great things about most Pixar movies is that they are kid friendly, but not just for kids. There are a lot of references that only adults would understand
4:54 I think that gag is under-appreciated, even by me. I vaguely remember those writing pads as a little kid. When you pull that clear sheet up, it erases what you drew.
I don’t end up subscribing to many reactors, but I like u, ur a real one, ur funny, and ur genuine, love u buddy, keep up the great work, I hit that sub button and put the bell notifications on!
Buzz would freeze when humans came around because he didn't want to give away himself as a space ranger. He was undercover. The other toys were more his "kind", whereas humans would appear to be definite aliens to him. You simply MUST do all the pixar films, as well as "Big Hero 6"...it has an actual theme about how we should be towards others, etc in it.
I want to thank you for having the puppies back on camera again lately 🐶🌭🐶🥰. J you had me dying with the way you were out for Mr. Potato Head's blood 🤣. Finally, I love when Drogo tells you off 😂
The only reason they don’t be on camera is because my big dog is unable to get on the bed anymore because he’s old. My little puppy hangs out with the big one bc they like to cuddle with each other. It was never like I stopped them he’s just old and can’t - J
I wanna inspire a Patreon/member to suggest Spirited Away (2001) by Hayao Miyazaki & Studio Ghibli, which also ties in to watching more big Ghibli movies. Would love to get J's reaction to them. Spirited Away is not only my favorite but it for some reason seems more perfect for this channel than the rest. Then Howl's, followed by Mononoke (saving second favorite for after Howl's).
Just what I needed tonight❤❤❤ Oh I remember this my baby boy was 3 years old in 95, he loved this movie...Hope you feel better soon, my sinuses have been kicking my butt lately.
This is SUCH a great movie. Tim Allan and Tom Hanks are such an unexpected but perfect comedic duo as Buzz & Woody. This was I believe the first ever piece of CGI media I ever saw, as I was born in early 1994 and my mother had this on VHS to play for me. As such, this movie, its cast, and the music are all such a part of me as an adult. Sid gets an honorary bowl cut cause you know that's what he prolly had before it was shaved.
Perfect choice! Can’t wait mate, this came out the year my sister was born! I’m three years older than her, I feel old.. but still love this movie so much, I grew-up with this movie and I would also watch it with my sister too as she got older ❤
The first scene to animated is The Army Men scene. To get references for them walking, Supervising Animator Pete Docter (who later directed Monsters, Inc., Up, Inside Out and Soul and is the Chief Creative Officer of Pixar) nailed a couple of tennis shoes on a plywood board and filmed himself "walking" wearing the board.
They had a hard time animating humans. That's why Sid kinda looks like Andy. If you look real close when the birthday friends come in the house, they all look the same
Toy Story is the greatest movie series of all time. Not just animated. Every movie is top tier. People doubted 3 and 4, but they pulled it out and hit with all of them.
So many great Pixar movies. I hope you hit them all but my favorites are: Finding Nemo, Monsters, Inc., both of The Incredibles, Ratatouille and all the Toy Story movies.
"There better be a dog in the rest of these movies"

Did you notice that Sid's toolbox was a Binford toolbox? On Home Improvement, Tim Allen was always promoting Binford tools.

Well.... there's also the theory she's either widowed or divorced. With the second theory that she got buzz to get rid of the last memory of his father. Woody

Any Pixar movie is good too 🙂
I was 14 when this came out, and was already put of the toy stage of life, but still loved this movie. The whole franchise is great.
R.I.P. Jim..
I didn’t see this comin, I’ll make sure I have a good plate for this one.
I was trying to show a friend of mine your channel but I typed in EMO Reacts....and boy, does that pull up a whole different kettle.
When this came out my dad's best friend was a grandpa and this was still his favorite movie.
"Where the FUCK is Andy's Daddy?" 😂
Sid and the little boy from Poltergeist in a motel room, tying each other off. Now that's a sentence I never thought I'd hear. {chef's kiss}
Buzz Light-year is Tim Allen and Woody is Tom Hanks.
“Oh those teas from Long Island” had me 💀
Back when us GenXers were little, we had Raggedy Ann and Andy. They came to life when the kids weren't around.
I actually remember them! I was beginning to think that I was the only one!
This movie was first released 28 years ago in theaters. And the very first time that I saw this movie was when it came out on VHS and on Home Video.
So glad you loved it! My coworker and I joke that we are Woody (me) and Buzz (her). We dressed up as them for Halloween in the office this year and even filmed ourselves doing the scene where they meet ("There seems to be no sign of intelligent life anywhere"---"Hellooooo!")
We all know Sid is going on the “ain’t $h!t” list.
Sid’s last name is Philips
I was only 18 years old when this movie was first released in theaters. And it was my first year of College when Toy Story was first released in theaters.
I just looked up all the Pixar titles and yes yes yes…please continue the Pixar reactions!!! So many great ones!!
The great things about most Pixar movies is that they are kid friendly, but not just for kids. There are a lot of references that only adults would understand
“Him and that little boy from Poltergeist are gonna be tying each other off in a hotel room.” Was hilarious J.
One of the best series watch them all especially to the 4th one so emotional they'll feel like family.😊
Welcome to the family - J
He needs those steps they sell for short dogs. 😒😅🤔🥰🐶
@@EOMReacts I'm confused as to why you were asking if it's the real Mr. Potato Head? It's a toy that's been around since 1952.
That rocket is still one of the most cathartic moments in film history. So exhilarating.
"I am Misses Nesbitt. Can't you see the hat!?" 👍🍻
I love your dog crawling around under the covers!
OMG you made me spit my coffee everywhere. The two guys tighin each other off was priceless.
"The hat looked good..tell me the hat looked good" 😂 love that part
Just what I needed tonight❤❤❤ Oh I remember this my baby boy was 3 years old in 95, he loved this movie...Hope you feel better soon, my sinuses have been kicking my butt lately.
FUN MOVIE! I'LL BE HERE FOR THE PREMIERE!
Bro, when I tell you this is the greatest movie ever. I really mean it. I’m 30 years old and this movie has slapped my entire life.
The piggy bank Hamm was voiced by John Ratzenberger (Cliff the postman from Cheers) and he did a voice to 1 character in almost every Pixar film.
J never looked so cooler when he was shocked about slinky’s voice! 😎 ❤
I still remember watching this movie on VHS with my classmates in kindergarten. I miss those innocent days.
One of my favorite easter eggs of all time: Sid's toolbox is a Binford.
The voice acting is insanely good
By chance, have you ever seen Ernest go's to camp?
Does anybody know what Heisenberg 007 is😂
Yes! I love that J knows Ernest! I love Jim Varney.
You had me dying. The comments were on 🔥 tonight. 😂😂
I never thought I'd be rooting for Mr. Potato Head makes it onto the Ain't Sh#t List....yet here we are!!
They had a hard time animating humans. That's why Sid kinda looks like Andy. If you look real close when the birthday friends come in the house, they all look the same
Hope you two are having an great and awesome day ❤
Toy Story is the greatest movie series of all time. Not just animated. Every movie is top tier.
People doubted 3 and 4, but they pulled it out and hit with all of them.
T-Rex was played by Wallace Shawn, aka mr. "Inconceivable!" from The Princess Bride.
Oh man, I can already hear Jay cracking up at the movie Over the Hedge.
nice chose!!!!! this came out during the year i was born!
Bro would really take a potato peeler to Mr. Potato Head 😂 savage
So many great Pixar movies. I hope you hit them all but my favorites are: Finding Nemo, Monsters, Inc., both of The Incredibles, Ratatouille and all the Toy Story movies.
He did Monsters Inc not that long ago. It’s part of why he’s been interested in doing more animated movies.
@@taneshah.1260 yes, I saw his reaction. Just naming my favorites.
"If he don't think he's a toy, why does he keep freezing?"
That blew my mind. I never thought about that before 😅
