Agreed. The one thing that always impressed me about Matt was that he has absolutely ridiculous chops but still backs them up with technique and musicality.
Not entirely...he has wet macular degeneration. His vision IS significantly impaired, but he;s not totally blind/ The fact that he could march on the field in BD, and Cadets before that, says a lot about him.
MATT BOWERS!!! went to my high school and marched with my instructer. hes butt rapin amazin. he helped out our line a little bit after his 08 season wit bd
Well, my instructor always harps on us on slicing. When Bowers played a roll on one drums, you can see the slice mainly in his left hand (since that's like the only hand you see). Otherwise, it's the angle that the video was taken at. My instructor said that this guys was probably the best sounding, as in sound quality, that's he's heard in a long time.
WOW!! did he just do that?! lol that was amazingly clean for the speed he was going at. in fact i heard only about 2 or 3 rims good god i hope i can learn to play like that.
Wow! I have so much respect for drum line drummers, especially when you see talent and dedication like this. I play a set but every time i see something like this, I am like DANG!!!! I need to work on my technique lol.Thank you sir for humbling people everywhere :) good job.
was he in cadets 05? if so hes got a DCI world champion title, two dci percussion trophies, a WGI world champion title, and now a tenor i&e title from dci. HOLY SHIT
Wow, his slicing is worse than mine. I'm not bagging on him, it's just that I didn't think that he would slice. I always thought that they didn't slice and that's why my instructor always harped on me to stop slicing.
If you watch these: watch?v=JJPq7qhywLs watch?v=31B89xgfP6o you'll see them both looking down. When you start playing some serious notes, it's hard not to look down. And I agree some visuals would be awesome, but I don't think you can expect visuals from a non-visual guy. lol
Matt has a condition called immaculate degeneration, which renders him legally blind. He told me that when he sees, he sees sporadic splotches of color; that he has a general idea of what things are, so it helps him move around a football field. When it comes to music, he uses a large electronic magnifier that blows up the image of a bar several times and he has to put his face very close to it. So before he ever plays something, he has to memorize it first. How's that for sight-reading?
frikkin awesome but umm..... does the blindfold really make a difference?, well i guess it does kinda since he misses the last note, but still, i think he was kinda, idk, cheating with the blindfold thing
well, i don't get why the blindfold thing is so OMFG. when my instructor marched cadets, they made them use blindfolds when playing so they don't rely on sight. but that WAS 95 96 so idk about now.
Matt Bowers is and has always been a drum machine lol. I marched with him in High School he was always impressive to watch!
supposed to be studying for school, sucked into watching dci videos on youtube again...
Arn't we all! Ha!
Agreed. The one thing that always impressed me about Matt was that he has absolutely ridiculous chops but still backs them up with technique and musicality.
i love that riff he keeps bringing back throughout the piece. it's awesome.
HE PLAYS AT BLINDING SPEED!
Not entirely...he has wet macular degeneration. His vision IS significantly impaired, but he;s not totally blind/ The fact that he could march on the field in BD, and Cadets before that, says a lot about him.
holy shit, that was the sickest tenor solo i've seen in a while
MATT BOWERS!!! went to my high school and marched with my instructer. hes butt rapin amazin. he helped out our line a little bit after his 08 season wit bd
im loving the consistency! good god!
I marched with this guy at Spirit in '03. One of the hardest workers I've ever seen!
10 bucks says this guy routienly does this in his sleep.
@thsma2009 WGi is if you you turn 22 before the season ever begins. But if you do it it mid season you're okay( I march WGI)
I might have been intentional. It was a visual in their show.
@mrTooKanSam if you knew, he is only partially blind, more things far away.
he can only see out of his peripheral vision. and hes just a beast at everything else
What an inspiration.
That's amazing!
The fact he is better than all of us in these comments i think its fine
WOW!! did he just do that?! lol that was amazingly clean for the speed he was going at. in fact i heard only about 2 or 3 rims good god i hope i can learn to play like that.
you can tell he put a lot of work into this solo
Theres always that one guy that says "WOOOO" after a lick in a DCI vid.
Wow! I have so much respect for drum line drummers, especially when you see talent and dedication like this. I play a set but every time i see something like this, I am like DANG!!!! I need to work on my technique lol.Thank you sir for humbling people everywhere :) good job.
@jazzman3071 yeah i watched him at 2009 WGI finals, he had the shades on at finals
did he miss that one note toward the end on purpose? well on purpose or not that was still a fucking sick solo!
Downright epic
Wow ive seen you comment on like all drum vids lol including the one by quakertownbands
Sweet!
awesome.10 stARS!
was he in cadets 05? if so hes got a DCI world champion title, two dci percussion trophies, a WGI world champion title, and now a tenor i&e title from dci. HOLY SHIT
you cant even tell the singles from the diddles. unbelieveable
I'll second that.
this dude had a mean ass slice when he warmed up
The dude is like 90% blind. I think we can forgive a little slice.
6:40
dude, he majorly slices in his left hand. never noticed.
@Snebasseor OH MY GOD HE'S BLIND. Repeck.
They're both great drummers! lol
nice groove part
@c2dinc Like Matt R from RCC his age out yr is 07 but he had WGI bouns
Anyone know where I can find sheet music for this if possible?
@c2dinc where if anywhere could i get the sheet music to this, please and thank you
He missed at the end. Nice.
spirit in 05
Damn, Fosho!
hey in his first section is whut chris drummer played in his 2010 i&e
HAH no. heck. the drum major for the blue devils this past summer was 17
Wow, his slicing is worse than mine. I'm not bagging on him, it's just that I didn't think that he would slice. I always thought that they didn't slice and that's why my instructor always harped on me to stop slicing.
He looks like Malcolm McDowell without hair.
agreed
@thsma2009 the changed it to 23 after he already aged out and left
he plays with sound quality cuz he marched cadets and rx
lol. thank you :)
MAD CHOPS!!
hahahahahaha. thats great
0:34 nice slice bro
he went Kenshi on them drums man..
yeah, you've obviously never been in...
Yeah it was redundant it was a joke and it was halarious lol - he desearved the win, the solo was very clean unlike others.
@mrTooKanSam it's still badass though
don't quote me on this but i'm pretty sure he aged out this year (meaning Touch was his last show ever). i'm not positive though, but i think so.
sheet music please? :)
@thsma2009 welcome haha.
If you watch these:

@betaomega04 It's actually called "macular degeneration."
Its any age, but it all depends on skill level.
But for the Blue Devils A Corps, you must be 18-22 right? I think that is what it said on my flyer.
you should do some research on promark. theyre gonna be good in the next 5 years.
isnt the blindfold pretty redundant for him? i mean. from what i understand, hes almost blind.....
but either way, he shreds.
@gfaithw
MY EYES!
well he's used to not seeing cuz he's practically blind.
rhythm x 08 and 09?
You mean double paradiddles?
Blindfold? doesn't matter blind anyway
what was his score?
drums
im guessing tim jackson didnt win this year?
ever wonder howmany heads hes broken? lol
99999
thats my point.....
MAD effen CHOPS
is this the same guy who marched cadets '06?
He has tunnel vision. No perefs (however you spell it).
oh no he didnt...blind folded!
WOW Really? 06 Regiment won that year too, and there was really a 16 year old? Hahaha
Thanks for the knowledge.
Matt has a condition called immaculate degeneration, which renders him legally blind. How's that for sight-reading?
thats not irony... its more redundant...
um.....long arms...
Well, he is legally blind.
He mussed his last big hit! Be made up for it by almost breaking the low drum's head.
frikkin awesome but umm..... does the blindfold really make a difference?, well i guess it does kinda since he misses the last note, but still, i think he was kinda, idk, cheating with the blindfold thing
Wow, do you even lift?
hes really good, that blindfold part was ridiculous. but thats quite a statement ur making...
Well, Jackson won four years in a row. Haha
haha what? he only won 4 times though!
well, i don't get why the blindfold thing is so OMFG. when my instructor marched cadets, they made them use blindfolds when playing so they don't rely on sight. but that WAS 95 96 so idk about now.
he is no tim jackson...lol
cool tho
But you said before that James Christian is better than Tim Jackson...That would knock Matt out of the top three.
So he's better than Tim Jackson?
It is on purpose.
You can only win 4 times. DCI World Class ages from 18-22.
That's on purpose.
I care about Bill Bachman.
