i am friends with the guy who recorded this..he showed me this before anyone else saw it..its crazy. i am really impressed that he tuned the drums chromaticly and played the god father theme song with the felts. he would have had a perfect score if he didnt drop the felt
this guy is increadable, not only is he techniclly inclined, but he, unlike many drummers, uses phrasing to better emphasize his music as a type of language. thumbs up for sure
dude that was tight and i really like those tenors i i like colors and i use 2 play them when i was on the drumline and i wish i could find those tenors i want a black and blue set
they are tuned different because they are tuned to match the pitches of "the godfather." cuz thats what he is playing when he starts the puffie licks at 2:08
Yippidy do, I could've been my tenor leader this year, but I told my DL instructor that I only wanted Snare, but that was filled, so I was captain of the Bass Line. Also, you're no way this awesome.
@muffinmafia you know all that requires is for all 3 of each tenor to create an arpeggio. aka all the drum 1's when hit simultaniously would play a chord. as would the drum 2's, 3's and 4's. so in theory he probably just tuned one set how he wanted then tuned the next set to the next pitch in a particular chord. and tuned the final set to the NEXT pitch in that chord. its not really complex. just brilliantly simple. :)
i agree, anyone one that evens dares to criticize tim jackson, i want them to make a video with them playing the tenors like that, but they cant drop a stick, or click a rim, or messup at all...Tim Jackson is a living legend.
@RVParsenal11 no north carolina haha. but he tells the tenorsif they crossover they are doing it for visual but its easier to play the notes with crossovers and he makes them learn it without crossovers.
@mexi53 well for one thing those notes are in groups of three right? and they're not really that fast, but each of those groups of 3 notes is done entirely with one hand. Also those mallets are probably pretty heavy for what's being done with them.
nope. I replied to that one, and it wasn't on this video. 1 you do get extra points for a good recovery. 2 it's Tim Jackson; the man is a beast. 3 I play tenors (not that I'm even nearly this good), and from looking at how he dropped it, there's almost no chance that it wasn't on purpose. it didn't hit anything to knock it out of his hand and he was playing, so his fulcrum would most definitely hold the stick in place. also, the grips on those mallets are rubber, which creates friction
I like how this video revolves around a dropped stick to some people. Is that really the most interesting thing to you guys? I REALLY hope that you learned something more from this video. Loved it. 5 stars!
@drummer1388 I could see throwing a stick being intentional, but the way he flinched and reached for it as it slipped makes me HIGHLY doubt that was intentional. but messing up in music is all about how you recover since everyone's gonna mess up.
it took me forever to figure out what i was hearing but at 2:10 he's playing the tune to the godfather. i know im not the first one to notice or anything but its pretty cool.
What ca I say! I love the arts of drumming, experts prolly already post their comments, but I can only say, what a hell of a drummer! 5* (love the peace when he drops the stick)
I was thinking in any band, but what do you mean by "concert band"? like an orchestra? I just feel like some musicians especially a lot of guitarist see their practice simply as "see how many notes (or beats) I can play in this song" My drummer can't play half as quick as this dude, but he can definately strick a groove bless him.
hey! watch out for those upside down playing zones! lol this is so sweet! he really is amazing, and so what if he dropped a stick? he got first and im pretty sure if i was the judge i would have been like "umm yea automatic one!" as soon as i saw them bring out three tenors and saw that it was tim jackson! lol haha
B lue Devils represent, they need to win DCI this year even though this was made 5 years ago, they are still good, for any people who enjoy watching drum corps reherse and perform, check out the channel DrumcorpsTube
The song he played at 2:12 was hilarious... the first time I watched this I didn't notice until the people started laughing and I replayed that part to hear it again. It sounds familiar but does anybody remember what that's from?
i dont think your 100% correct. correct me if i'm wrong but if you go 1:07, he hits all the same drum on different tenors but each drum is kind of a different pitch.
I've watched this video probably 100 times plus over the past 10 years and it still impresses the hell out of me.
The fact that he wrote this piece note for note and rhen played it perfectly is insane.

#SteveJobs #Playing #The #Quads
He was part of the best Blue man group ever!!!
~The Blue Devils~
He is an amazing quad player one of the best i have ever seen hands down
i like how
he drops a stick
and then just keeps going and still manages to win
hes godly
this guy is increadable, not only is he techniclly inclined, but he, unlike many drummers, uses phrasing to better emphasize his music as a type of language. thumbs up for sure
omg, playing so well, and recovering as quickly as he did. 100/10 no doubt
Like three blue devils but one guy
Ive seen alot of tenor players, and I truly think that Tim Jacskson is probly the best Tenor player I have ever seen!!
just cant stop watching him play
this guy is the the meaning of amazing
My favorite part was where he's like "Brrrrrrrrakadakakada brrrrrrbrrrrrrrakat kat brrrrbrrrrbrrrbrrradada kadakakadakat."
wow!!! incredible hand control and cordination
omg his sweeps in the beginning... omfg crazy
I don't think that's what they meant by "multi-tenor"
Tim Jackson showed us all what was possible, and since then absolutely nobody has done it.
I love how he throws in the Godfather melody... on tenors! That's pretty awesome.
It's all from sheet music he wrote. The judges have a copy of the sheet music as well.
What a freaking beast, how in the world do you dislike this video. You 21 people obviously dont know anything about anything.
I think he thrives off the cheering like, "Oh yeah... I'm fucking great"
I wanna see him vs Bill Bachman... XD
dude that was tight and i really like those tenors i i like colors and i use 2 play them when i was on the drumline and i wish i could find those tenors i want a black and blue set

Also, you're no way this awesome.
@sawfish33 He's playing the Godfather theme, the Blue Devil's show that year
there are notations for rolls and ghosts notes and what not
I LOVED THAT PART!!!!!
Wow.... that is massively impressive
I am certain that 2006 was just an all around badass year for the Blue Devils.
this kid is ridiculously good, my god.

@sawfish33 He plays the godfather theme, the BD show that year
in my opinion, if not the best, hes one of them tims a beast
i agree, anyone one that evens dares to criticize tim jackson, i want them to make a video with them playing the tenors like that, but they cant drop a stick, or click a rim, or messup at all...Tim Jackson is a living legend.

If drumsticks experienced orgasms based on the skill level of usage, these sticks would be the happiest sticks in the world.
He's dropped one every year, it could almostbe a tradition now - but he has advanced the multi-tenor idiom so much it becomes irrelevant.
Sonny, music is made to entertain us and this certainly is entertainment on a very accomplished level.
You try it sometime !
@mexi53 That's the theme from the Godfather movie trilogy
@mexi53 well for one thing those notes are in groups of three right? and they're not really that fast, but each of those groups of 3 notes is done entirely with one hand. Also those mallets are probably pretty heavy for what's being done with them.
hes such a beast he can drop his stick and still kill it with one hand...
the force is strong with this one
i doubt there is sheet music for it, but if there was it would be near impossible to read.
yea u can tell at 308 when he runs down the drums and each is a different pitch.. sounds like it keeps stepping down each set
@Knafi thats a bibber...
@ofatheroartificer So...why are you watching this video? You must have searched it for it to even appear...
he'll be teaching my drumline tomorow. no joke
nope. I replied to that one, and it wasn't on this video.
1 you do get extra points for a good recovery.

how does he still hit zones?!?!?!?!?!
@drummer1388 I could see throwing a stick being intentional, but the way he flinched and reached for it as it slipped makes me HIGHLY doubt that was intentional. but messing up in music is all about how you recover since everyone's gonna mess up.
Damn he's got those things cranked!!
@mefivecent wearing what the tenors or his current clothing. because you wear both of them during any marching event
Jackson, Bachman, and Werth. If they get together that would be some crazy shit
21 people watched drumline and said dayum thats some skill!
The show that the Blue Devil's played that year was called "The Godfather: Part Blue" And he was paying homage to that
No he won't. He's literally the greatest person in the world. My all time favorite staff member.
Pure Excellence!! 🎉
WOW that was amazing
Some crazy hands right there !
Imagine Wearing those During Marching Season
it took me forever to figure out what i was hearing but at 2:10 he's playing the tune to the godfather. i know im not the first one to notice or anything but its pretty cool.

i want to play tenor any words of wisdom for me
total bad ass.
im talking to this beast on facebook right now!! AHHH
@chiodos82 I'd love to see Neil add a section of tenors like this to his drums, to incorporate them in one of his solos. Then, I'd be the crying one.
wow those are some clean 3s there
thankyou
anyone know what he's doing now?
amazing stick control.
why is there no sound at the end!?!?!
That sheet music would make my eyes explode..
hey! watch out for those upside down playing zones! lol this is so sweet! he really is amazing, and so what if he dropped a stick? he got first and im pretty sure if i was the judge i would have been like "umm yea automatic one!" as soon as i saw them bring out three tenors and saw that it was tim jackson! lol haha
awesome
no he just has 2 sets of 6
1 in front facing towards him
and one on each side facing away from him

Is very great!!
Ever heard of Bill Bachman?
My new hero
2006? Guys, we're getting old.
The song he played at 2:12 was hilarious... the first time I watched this I didn't notice until the people started laughing and I replayed that part to hear it again. It sounds familiar but does anybody remember what that's from?
flying of the bubble bee somewhere in time ?
i wonder if u could march those??
18 drums
i dont think your 100% correct.
correct me if i'm wrong but if you go 1:07, he hits all the same drum on different tenors but each drum is kind of a different pitch.
In school, I bet he could write two essays simultaneously
I wonder if its freestyle or from notes
havent seen "quads" in a while... normally see quince or six
I so wanna try this! I think I could too! Fucking sickk!
that was the most awesome thing i've ever seen in my life. Don't know about the outfit though
So? He improvised and made it fine
That was simply amazing. Which drum core does this guy play in?
Almost every video on youtube from the 3yrs he won the i&e competitions he either drops a stick or it slides out of his hand at some point.
looks like he dropped a sticj not sure if it wasd on purpose or not
@MrCalebs11 good job staring at it the whole video.
UMM i was just wondering if there was a certian set up that you HAVE to put ur tenors in a way? or just do watever?
you know exactly what your talking about!!!!!!!!!!
