Wow. This is one of the best solos I’ve ever seen...even amongst other DCI snare champions. Great execution and technicality but-most importantly-it’s INCREDIBLY well written. He really knows how to play to a crowd. Awesome. 10/10.
I disagree. I love the fact that they're so hyped for him and just having a good time. The soloist's performance + the audience's response to that performance = pure positive synergy.
for some reason, it feels weird seing someone from vanguard do all those stick tricks. but this was great, he actually played some musically sensical beats as opposed to the BD guys who did stick tricks and played some somewhat random stuff
I'm literally crying! This is... I'm speechless!!!! And, if this is how good all the snares on Santa Clara Vanguard are, I want to see the whole drumline in action!!
I love people hatein just cause they could never do this in their wildest dreams!! I have seen people do all of this in real life. There is nothing fake about it, just raw talent!
This man has chops that all you fools wish you had. hes my best friend and jonz brother so i better not see any negative crap on here. he did his thing and left his legacy so i suggest you all try and do the same. a proud day in scv history right here.
no... Both Emmanuel and Anthony have a great quality of sound. They both march with great corps. And they are both great people. You can not say that one or the other has way better sound quality than the other. You just can't! They are both masters of their craft with very different styles. They both have contributed a lot to the activity. Keep it positive people!
I was there and it was amazing. Hype???!!! You should have been at the tenor "show", we were dancing on our chairs. As an alumni of SCV it was a proud moment.
don't get me wrong, i thought anthony porter's solo was visual rapage. but when i was watching it i felt like i was watching blast and every other i&e snare solo all over again. either way, hey they're still awesome
All I know is, I wasn't doing stuff like that back in the 1980s when I marched with thw Bluecoats! Great Chops, and lots of shedding gives you alot more options musically.
@evega420 manny himself said that the reason he auditioned for bd was that scv had scheduled camps on performance dates for pulse, the winter line he was already playing with at the time. pulse went on to win wgi. i think any drum staff with their wits about them would encourage their players (especially one such as manny who'd been on the line for three years at that point) to perform in wgi instead of forcing them to choose. another member went to the coats because of the whole ordeal.
He played a much more difficult solo this year. But it was given a score of 92.(I heard he dropped his stick or something) This year was just way more competitive.
The good part- This guy's sound quality, drum tuning, execution, and playing style/form seemed a little better than the other guys. But the not so good part- a couple of the other guys had better content and more notes, more difficulty, and better structure in their solos, particularly R Nader. But, I can see the justification for this solo winning, though I would have placed it second (based on the solos/vids I saw). This guy did a very good job and his playing looks and sounds great.
cause of the tricks he does i think. my high school plays with tilts and i tried doing the tricks he does with the tilt and it was real tricky. but i can get them playing flat. that's my best guess.
I don't even know what the qualifications are to do I&E... I heard some corps don't allow members to participate. If it is its a major bummer if they do. I want see some bluecoat drummer or bring some regiment guys back.

Pearl snares sound so great. His rimshots are like gunshots.
I agree
How they said E M A N U E L in the beginning gets me everytime
I just don't know what to make of this, its incredible but the crowd hype has me losing my shit lmao
wow, he's got amazing sound quality and is in total control
13 years later, and I'm cheering out loud with his fellow members/audience!
I disagree. I love the fact that they're so hyped for him and just having a good time. The soloist's performance + the audience's response to that performance = pure positive synergy.
What just what did I just watch? Mind warp. UNDENIABLY GREAT.
for some reason, it feels weird seing someone from vanguard do all those stick tricks. but this was great, he actually played some musically sensical beats as opposed to the BD guys who did stick tricks and played some somewhat random stuff
I agree. SCV has been layin it down for the past several years with a light touch. Remember the '04 line?
I'm literally crying! This is... I'm speechless!!!! And, if this is how good all the snares on Santa Clara Vanguard are, I want to see the whole drumline in action!!
When he opens up the sound vents you can actually hear a difference! Cool.
My man was NO JOKE playa! One the best very best to ever do it.
I love people hatein just cause they could never do this in their wildest dreams!! I have seen people do all of this in real life. There is nothing fake about it, just raw talent!
i dont get why he is playing flat...but they play on tilts
Keelan Tobia in the beginning he was playing on the other side of the drum so if it was tilted it wouldn’t work
It's his solo, he chose to have it flat lmao
*shot* *click* *smack* *kick*

he killed all the devils that year!
Some of the sickest chops I've seen in a while and I marched Blue Devils in 2005.
Art Vandelay I thought you were an architect ?
thats the cleanest solo i have ever heard.
dude he rocked. i was there. in fact i think i was right behind this camera guy.
Sound Quality is just perfect!
Put me in that room in my dreams brain.
I was there and it was amazing. Hype???!!! You should have been at the tenor "show", we were dancing on our chairs. As an alumni of SCV it was a proud moment.
that drum sounds great
Ay lowkey keelan comment under all this hate
Oh yeah so you have an I&E First place ring. You sir must be great!
he was so much better than every one else.
the quality is out this world .. damn i wish i could play like that ;(
amazing sound quality!
thats the prettiest snare tone I've ever heard, loved the tuning and those roles are unbelievably clean!
that solo was awesome
I'm glad that someone other than BD (and out of all that could have, SCV!!!) won snare individuals.
excellent sound quality :D
Those alternated ruffs are amazing...
Hahahah i love the way he kicked his stick
My son wanted me to mention the he thought this was the best solo and he also said the solo and player both seemed the "coolest".
Loved the Grandmas 3:26
that was a really clutch solo
This is why I want to be in the Vanguard more the any other corp. They always have the best sound quality when I comes to solos IMO.
AMAZING!!!
This is the definition of sound quality. If anyone ask you what type of SQ they want to strive for? Refer them to this video!
proud to say that is my drum now.
fkn amazing and the crowd is all SCV Dick! im hella impressed!
crazy clean.
He had the hype of the crowd. That's why he won. Look at past winners they didn't have the best solo structure they had the crowd involved.
That man at 4:29 is the most single most intimidating person I have ever watched in the lot, those who have seen him will agree
Best. Crowd. Ever.
damn thats a beast.
btw this is steven from school.
don't get me wrong, i thought anthony porter's solo was visual rapage. but when i was watching it i felt like i was watching blast and every other i&e snare solo all over again. either way, hey they're still awesome

hey is this manny's channel? well anyway, DUDE your F***in Crazy! I finally got to see your one man show, hope you're doing good neighbor!
Jonez 04
His technique is FLAWLESS.
HOLY CRAP! By the way, you know it's clean when you don't hear inconsistencies. And this kid needs to be in his on dumline!
WOW! it's a fucking miracle! one positive comment concerning rudimental drumming to actually come out of betoyeyo.....
what hands.. awesome.
Roll sound is sickening. I like really like the wa the drum is tuned. what heads is he using?
because he's a badass.
ahehe !
thanks !
MABUHAY ANG MGA PINOY ! :D
emmanuel deleon
yes, the best
No, he taps for Vanguard, there is another guy from SCV thats at COats now though.
anyone else lurking hard for his 2010 performance?
i wish i had that many friends lol
@evega420

@PeanutButterGorilla he has amazing control.
Who is marching with now
Thats a tastey sounding snare.
What the heck is he playing at 4:04 going on. That stick flash going with the music is just crazy.
He played a much more difficult solo this year. But it was given a score of 92.(I heard he dropped his stick or something) This year was just way more competitive.
Hooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I noticed he placed 4th or 5th this year. I wonder if he played this same (or similar) solo, anyone know?
were you there when he played his solo? lol if so were you screaming and jumping haha.
0:04???
what did katherine put on the ground to make everybody cheer?
cause of the tricks he does i think. my high school plays with tilts and i tried doing the tricks he does with the tilt and it was real tricky. but i can get them playing flat. that's my best guess.

what did the girl put under his snare?
Lickers split guy?
not human
does any one no where this guys from cuz my last name is de leon
oh okay, thanks.... well he's a cool guy to hang with :)
where can i get a copy of this?
was that a warm up . as if dci drum corps can be full of them selfs anymore then they already are.....sick solo hehe
I believe his name is emmanuel de leon
Wow. It's not fake. It's called a roll.
The judge in the beginning looks like Jeff Prosperie
his drum harness
well yeah, I was taking your comment in more of a general standpoint, my bad...
This was the best solo last year?
Because of the technique he was using.
what place he got?
even without the crowd, you can tell his notes were a lot tighter and his tech was more crisp than ralph nader's solo.
cpt morgan pose is actually the left leg
If that is a Yamaha snare, then he is opening the Acoustic EQ Vent thing that is used for volume.
ivan pacheco did it with his elbow
it's the snare throw... i think they used double snares so one set on the bottom, one n the top
holy shit
