well, technically speaking, on the Durango (and I'm assuming the journey because of the similar frame), if you press the shifter left or right, it'll manually shift, like paddle shifters.
They clearly did that camera shot for dramatic purpouses :D

It's probably the worst "Small" SUV you can buy right now, with it's dated appearance (The generation came out in the late 2000's and hasn't been updated since around 2011), medieval powertrain (It STILL comes with a 4 SPEED AUTO, like it's 1984), and it's one of the bigger SUVs in the segment (Against the Ford Escape, Honda CR-V and Toyota Rav-4 and others) yet doesn't come with 3rd row seats, even though it's rivalling the Ford Explorer in size which does come with 3rd Row seats. I'd personally take the Ford Escape than this, with it's 2.0 Liter Ecoboost if I want more power or the upcoming Plug-in Hybrid version if I want more fuel efficiency
$26k for a Dodge, 3 years later =$4k.

Our Dodge Grand Caravan (bought with just 3000 miles) back in 2001 has been THEE MOST problematic vehicle out of the 5 we've had to date. Our 1996 Toyota Corolla hasn't had a small fraction of the issues this van has had. Never going Dodge again.

I live in the U.S and I've had a lemon law issue and I can say it was very easy. The entire process took about 5 weeks.

I've had to get into fuse boxes of a few Chrysler/Fiat vehicles and solder jump wires and connections to repair shoddy solder joints that would cause this no power to fuel pump situation

Mystery Buyer totally agree I bought a 1995 Toyota Camry back in 2005 u til 2011was my first vehicle I bought and actually drove, had only 3 major problems to fix within that time frame, water pump, alternator and distributor, other than that I had a dream car in my opinion. , it was so reliable I had over 300k miles and it drove like no tomorrow, i needed a bigger vehicle as my family grew, gave it to my brother who needed a vehicle at the time, never saw it again, for 6 years later. and who knows what he did with it. I was in subway and I saw a Camry that looked like my old one, because of the rusty roof and gas tank door, I knew it was my old Camry, the cashier at the counter owned it, I told her it was my first car I bought, she told me she had no luck trying to buy a used car on a low salary for her transportation with a child and found my vehicle at a buy here pay here lot, I was so happy that she was blessed to find my vehicle that was surely a blessing to me at the time, that made my day.

the thing is that the expert could not reproduce the problem so he could not really analyze it ....it happens , it happens with computers too ..Apple almost screwed me with a $1800 macbook pro that had graphics issues but they happened so randomly the computer seemed normal until it didn't ....they told me that even tho I had applecare insurance they could not do anything if the laptop was acting normal....what I did was I exploded in rage and told the manager "Ok, you want proof , I'm going home and bringing a pillow so I can stay here as long as I need until I can show you this "awesome Mac" is a piece of crap. I left and they kept the laptop , when I got back with the pillow a guy from the "genius bar" told me the glitch happened while I was gone and that they were going to replace it. True story ...I still have the pillow lol

I've had my Toyota break down about 10 times last year compared to my Mercedes which has only done so once... Both are from 2005.

My 2015 Dodge Caravan has nearly 300,000km's and it's still going strong on the original engine and transmission. Never stalled, never left me stranded. It's been the best vehicle I've ever had! And I work with a woman who's on her 2nd Dodge Journey. She got well over 300,000km's out of her first Journey, and her second one currently has around 200,000km's and she's never had any issues with either of them.
Dodge Journey, Oh my God, run and run fast, and don't look back.

If your car stalls out while driving just put it in neutral and started up again while you're still moving, you can still start a car in neutral you don't need to be in park so that way if it stalls just throw it into neutral while you're still moving, start it and then throw it back into drive

Def someone forgot to tighten an electrical connection somewhere while building the car. the only way to fix that is to go through every system that could cause a shut off and wrench every single nut and screw. probably also double check with an ohm meter. if that fails then yes send that sucker back.
i bought a 6 year old vauxhall astra a few years ago,no issues for first 7 or 8 months then it would randomly stall,mostly when driving slowly but still alarming.
Garages would hook up the diagnostics,no codes found ,shrug their shoulders and send me on my way-they did not want to get involved,too time consuming I suppose.
Finally,about 6 months down the line a code appeared suggesting faulty fuel rail sensor-and problem was sorted.
Got rid and bought myself a boring but reliable honda civic.

Unbelievable. Their car has been in for diagnostics tens of times, but as soon as the media steps in they replace the car like no big deal, which is something they should have done in the first place. Something is wrong when you need to call the media just to get a problem fixed. If they don't want to help their customers until their reputation is in danger, that just shows how much they care.
I think the lady definitely got ripped off by the dealership because she paid 26k for a 2.4L Journey, which is already way too much. A 4-cylinder Journey should only cost around 20-22k.

All I can say is I own 2 Toyota's 2010 Prius (over 200,000 miles) and a 2005 Camry (over 300,000 miles) and neither has ever needed a major repair. Just replacing brake pads. I am very strict about following the car maintenance schedule for each vehicle by using a great car maintenance program www.lonewolf-software.com/automotivewolf.htm to monitor and remind me when any type of maintenance is required. Toyota's are great as long as you take care of and keep up with the maintenance schedule. I also only use OEM oil and filters for both vehicles.
Excellent software. I've been using it for years!
I manage multiple vehicles with that software!
Can vouch for toyotas, my 2007 camry CE model, 5 speed manual, 316,000 miles. Never broke down. Just maintenance oil changes, air filter, brake pads.

That’s the opposite for me. Had a 2001 Camry and at 90k the engine stalled and I crashed it. Then got an 2007 Camry and at 42k the transmission lost all gears expect first which over rev the engine and blew the 5 out of 6 pistons out the block. Then got an 2012 Tacoma and at 53k it started drinking oil. Then the ac pump freeze up and Toyota wanted 6k to fix all the problems. Traded that in for a 2013 4Runner and had nothing but electrical problems. That was my last Toyota I would ever buy.
This is why I like older cars better, not near as many electronics, more mechanical and easier to fix

Dodge is one of the most unreliable cars around the world, they always get the lowest rankings in reliability studies
Heavy duty trucks are okay, about the only good product they still make.
*Looks at my 170k RT avenger* Then again none of anything on the car is OEM and replaced with after market parts that are better.
My journey is still running perfectly after over 10 years and 150k miles..

I still drive my 50 year old Ford, Falcon, Futura, Convertible. I have been driving it for 47 years. I service the car myself. It has broken down 3 times in 47 years. Dodge's are crap!
+Lance Boil My dad has a dart he has been rocking that his dad bought from the factory brand new back then. It is his daily driver with god knows how many miles and has only had 1 major breakdown due to a cracked block and that was only a few years ago. Car brands don't matter man, it is all about general maintenance and just doing research on what you want to buy online. There are endless amounts of sources to find anything and everything wrong with any car anywhere.

I had the same problem with my Dodge journey. Crankshaft position sensor was replaced by myself year ago. No problem.

I think a lot of people don't understand a few things, the amount of computer controlled electronics in these newer cars, like it or not, are just incredible, on average there are 10-15 in a non hybrid car, and with a hybrid there can be up to 30+. With so many electrical connections, wires, inputs, outputs, and so much communication between them with canbus systems the possible causes of something like this could be staggering.
So taking it to the dealer to have them fix an electrical problem that doesn't happen very often and not on command is asking a lot, especially when there are no codes that are tripped and nothing visual.
I work at a dealership as a transmission tech, and we get a lot of customers in with problems that we can not duplicate, and the bottom line is, if we can not duplicate the problem, we can not fix the problem. If it doesn't happen on the road test, we will CCND (customer concern not duplicated) it for 0.3. The problem is that the manufacturer does not pay us to diagnose a warranty claim, and if we don't find anything all we get paid is 18 min, so most techs (being flat rate paid) will not spend more than that amount of time looking at it because they are doing it for free after those 18 min. So this is a manufacturer problem, and trust me, all the techs don't like it as much as you do.
The best thing you can do is remember as many facts about what the car was doing when the problem happened, how fast you were going, was the car hot or cold, were you braking or accelerating, what gear you think you were in, I know that most people don't have that stuff in their head when it happens, but remembering as much information as you can at the time it happens will help the dealer techs pinpoint the problem faster, and better.
ImyurZero exactly i was a tech at a dealer too for a while and sometimes it takes 5- 10 minutes from the time i get my work order to go out find the car and pull it inside. Add another 5 mins to brush snow off scrape windows if its winter. Now im supposed to diag. an intermittent stall. Check for stored codes, another 5 mins. No codes. Test drive for a bit, no issues. Already working on it for at least 0.2-0.3. If i cant get it to do something it shouldn't, its getting parked and ccnd because i cant fix what isnt broke, and i dont work for free. Ive got 2 front brake jobs lined up that i can bang out in an hour and get paid for 2. Totally manufacturer problem.

I worked at a Dodge dealership and we had a blue journey that had this exact same issue! It was brought in on the tow truck over and over again. The owners got frustrated and traded it off. The dealership put it OUT ON THE lot and resold it again! Guess what came back into the dealership less then a week later? The blue journey and the new owners. It was disgusting.
I’m usually never jealous of United States laws but wow. They are miles ahead of us with this lemon law...

@@JPTECH8 But even the newer electric boost requires power, depending on the vehicle and what the failure mode is, the booster may be losing power and the driver ends up in an arm wrestling match and like the old days of non-power assisted steering the slower the vehicle is rolling, the more effort is required to turn the steering wheel.
Non-power steering is referred to as manual steering. There's a lot to poke fun at here but this part checks out.

You can shift an automatic. Most have the standard 3 extra gears. You then have newer CTV and duel transmissions which you can switch into standard/sports mode if you prefer it.

I would never buy a new car. Just like the expect said "too much to go wrong". I own a 1999 Lincoln Town Car and I'm sticking with it. Too many computers in modern cars.
Back in high school I bought a cool looking dodge car, couple months later got a Toyota. It’s amazing how problematic a dodge is 🙄🙄 I haven’t had any problems w my Toyota !

My Dodge ram truck was a lemon. Brakes, highway noise buffeting and sudden shifting into reverse from park. Lawyer in CA had it bought back for me thank God!

usually a dream car is something you have wanted for years. whether or not it's exotic. a dream car is just as the name implies,something you've dreamed about. the perfect car. any way you look at it a dodge journey is nothing out of the ordinary. had she researched her "dream car" she would have had a bit more knowledge going in. I just calls it like I sees it. she bought a car spur of the moment without researching her options. to make the story more exaggerated, she claimed it's her dream car.

2005 I bought a California lemon law buy back vehicle in Arizona. It has about 8k miles on it and the pricing was perfect. The vehicle is still on the road and 254k miles later and I'm still driving it. The best vehicle I've even purchased.
Theres a reason why dodge had to be bailed out. People realized that after 03-04, the quality went to junk.So they bought other brands. And fiat merging, its worse. I'd stay far away from dodge/jeep/chrystler. Chevrolet has been having many quality issues lately as well.
Only one American company didn't need a bailout yet they are still hated by the people that did need help haha.

The car that they drive around is not the same as the lemon one. The lemon one has hubcaps and untainted Windows. In the test drive pan shots it has alloys and tinted windows.

My mom had a 2008 Subaru outback and it was fine up until 2014 where the transmission went out. We got it fixed but this year during a summer vacation to Florida, the oil in the car was completely gone and we where left on the highway during the summer heat. Once it was filled up again, we went only 1 mile down the highway and then it completely shuts down. It turns out we needed a new engine! Once THAT was fixed, the AIR CONDITIONING didn't work and was just pumping out hot air and air conditioning coolant didn't do a thing to fix it. Then, last week the transmission was about to go out but we already planned to buy a new car and that's what we did. Now that old car is gone and we are having a good time with out new car.
my mom bought her car and it had 3,000 miles on it, it was a factory demo. This vehicle started losing radio signal randomly and sometimes the voice control came on. We took it to ford and they replaced the main computer under warranty. To this day it still does this but much less.

On my older Classic Mustang car the ground wire to the coil was broken but you couldn't tell by looking. The mechanic in California fixed it in less than 10 minutes.
Those aren't nearly as complex as modern cars. They're a snap to fix!
I rented probably 20 cars over a course of 2 years for a job that I had. The only car that ever broke down on me was a Dodge Caliber - it just didn't want to start up again just a few minutes after I had last used it.
I have a Jeep Patriot that's cost me an additional $4500 in repairs since I bought it. Hardly get a month without having something done. Brakes down twice, need new rear brakes again. Ball joints, swaybar, toner arms, etc etc etc. Oh, and every ABS sensor has gone out at some point. Rust like crazy on underbody components. Contacted Chrysler, didn't do much except offer "Prefered pricing" on my next Chrysler (didn't say what Prefered pricing would actually be)...but can't see myself buying another. And besides, not impressed with any Chrysler dealership I've been in contact with (they're all pulling a scam, imo).

I experienced the same problem with my 2014 Toyota Corolla. Vehicle stalled, all electronics disables, no power steering, no abs, no traction control, the gas pedal was unresponsive. I brought it in the dealership and they tried to fix it buy resetting the check engine light. Right after i picked up as i was leaving the dealership, check engine light came on again.
This happened around 5 time and finally i suggested them to try and change the battery. After they replaced the battery, problems were gone. Just because you have a car that's a "lemon" doesn't necessarily mean you have to replace the whole car or the whole car is defective.
I like the guy in the beginning saying "I believe they're getting greedy." Sir, with all do respect, you are far to gentle. They are greedy and they are only it for the money. Apple? Greedy. Samsung? Greedy. Chrysler? Greedy. and you can fill all worldwide companies and let the final word being: greedy.
Same issue with grand caravan was in the tipm box was a recall but not on "mine" they wanted near 2000$ for a new box I wired it for under 200$still going strong.

This isn't a new phenomenon
Washington State has had a lemon law since 1994 or earlier. 3 times in shop for same problem then they have to replace car. Had Ford Explorer 4x4. Rear end differential went out in 6 wks. $2K repair or more. Demanded new car. But not 3 times so had to keep it. Gave to say never had another problem after 16 years. In my case good thing as replacement couldn't beat that problem.
I had the same issue. It's probably the CPU. If the CPU crashes it won't trigger a code. A used CPU cost about $50~$150 of ebay. It may not work 100% but even then it can be used to test your current CPU. If the problem goes away then it was the CPU. It depends on whether you have a trust-able mechanic and how much he will charge fr diagnosing your problem.
Coworker had a 2010 Jeep Compass with a similar problem. He would be driving along and the vehicle would lose power. No fault codes and no warning. Turned out to be a bad connector on the harness supplying battery power to the underside of the main fuse panel.

If you are looking for a specific vehicle, used especially, do research. Ask questions depending on the research. Find the Blue Book value of the vehicle in which at times you can find even at parts stores, and the " Red Book Value " if possible online which at times is undisclosed unless you are a Sales Employee at a dealership for Used Vehicle Sales, and use those numbers in negotiations on the price. Get info on the VIN, or even take the vehicle you choose after searching several of the same vehicle, take it on a test drive, with a quick stop at an off road shop for a quick inspection. A lot of times if you explain the past experiences and concerns to the place you go, they will accommodate with either a free first time inspection or a buyers be ware approval inspection.
