One of the best songwriters and musicians to ever record in studio and to take the stage and perform...and a great man to stand up for and give to worthy causes such as the call to bring more and much needed love, care, respect, appreciation, healing and protection for our amazing, beautiful but now much abused and polluted planet earth..for all eco-systems,lands, air and waters and all wildlife...lets all pray for and do all that we can to help our earth..thank you,Neil
when u have a great song , melody and a touching lyric, all you need , is a voice, an acoustic guitar to perform it..........no modern technology required
Bravo and thank you Neil, Gordon... You guys are the inspiration that keeps me going as a songwriter believing that the songs are our children and make us proud when they stand on their own.
This is the anthem of my life. I've travel all over the world and still I long to be in the fields around any airport (not in rain) but on a bright and beautiful day!
To quote Robbie: "I think you know this guy...eh?" Few people love Bob or Elvis more than me, but this is my favorite cover of this song. Gotta luv Uncle Neil...
For me, no one did this song, better than he! . Thank you Neil for, YOUR, heart of Gold, love and dedication to the music industry!! Can't imagine life without your work 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
wow, beautifully done here, the only other time I have ever heard this done was with the king himself,Elvis.he played infrequently thru various tours.most notably Aloha from Hawaii..wonderful sound ..
As a teen I used to ride my bike 15 miles to see planes land and take off from MKE. I loved the smell of the field grass and the jet exhaust of departig planes. I was truly in heaven.,
hi mike the old gray fergie tractors, and lotsof others run on the same fuel i think ,tvo great smell, brings us back to good old care free days , like neil young
This kind of song fits Neil so well! With all his personas and sounds, his folksy sounds still are among the best. His soul settles into this kind of song.
Beautiful, didn't realize this was a Gordan Lightfoot song, but knew it wasn't Neil written... Thank you commenters and thank you Gordan and thank you Neil!
Priceless memory, Gordan Lightfoot singing this and his other legendary songs, in an intimate underground (actually under the ground) coffee house, the Riverboat in Yorkville, Toronto, 1964. Joni Mitchell played there a few weeks, later.
God, this is a brilliant cover. It's tough to improve on Gord. Bob couldn't do it, and Neil can't either. But their covers are definitely at the level of the Lightfoot original. Been a Neil fan all my life, and he's never ceased to impress.
Ima SuperPerson To be honest, I liked it when I first heard it, but then I was like meh. It's a good cover, good interpretation, but compared to the original, it is shit indeed. Completely different feel to it, Gordon's version really has that amazing spirit, the music flows, etc. here I can feel nothing, the different chord changes Neil used work terrible in this song... no good.
Sometimes being me (being a "dick") ain't easy. But I'm afraid it was this time. I love Neil, big time. Always have. But this particular version of Gordon's song sucks ass. You know, we - all of us - just need to start calling a spade a spade, or whatever. Honesty never hurt anyone. I thank you for your view. I don't want people to agree with me - I want them to think for themselves, and not blindly follow others. If I can help with that - I feel like maybe my life here has had some purpose. Thanks and best wishes!
Every time I hear this song, I picture a soldier hunched over in Vietnam wishing he was home..., finally beginning to understand he really has no idea why he's there watching his buddies die..., maybe trying to get over a recent death of his buddy. This is a hauntingly sad song...
This is an excellent cover by Neil. Early Morning Rain suits his unique vocals and he adds something fresh with his harmonica. Two of the many great Canadian singer songwriters.
For Lightfoot fans who have followed the story, Neil's lead guitarist in Crazy Horse suffered a hand injury over the summer, and Neil cancelled a number of performances including those at two big festivals in Ontario. Lightfoot was asked to step in, and did so, and Neil expressed his appreciation to Lightfoot personally. Last night, Neil performed some songs with a few musicians, but not his full band, and he did some songs solo, including Early Mornin' Rain: just Neil, his guitar and harmonica
ain´t it beautiful? to listen to this geniusses at least that´s what they are for me ....another fan, says so much, brings back memories from the late seventies in my case...having a cold one (one)
Two of Canada's best...
Two of the world's best...
Thank you Neil...
Thank you Gordon...
But Bieber is THE best.
@@DowntownCanon I don't belieb you.

Nah..your best was Danko...by a huge gap. Nobody played fiddle, bass and reg guitar like him...Neil cant touch him
As Crosby often said Neil is the most talented musician I have ever met. His talent is endless.
There's no mistaking Neil Young's one-of-a-kind voice and he sounds fantastic, as usual. 🤗
He's very good, but no Dylan. Bob's the main man.
@@joekilday3801 Phil Ochs you mean
Joe Bob does a great version also.

From Bavaria to CANADA: I will love this music till I die!😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍

Gordon Lightfoot...what a legend. Neil does him proud!!! A fellow Canuck :-)

I can still see Neil and Gord singing at those long ago opening ceremonies of the Calgary winter Olympics...
RiP Gord. Neil, long may you run.
Bravo and thank you Neil, Gordon... You guys are the inspiration that keeps me going as a songwriter believing that the songs are our children and make us proud when they stand on their own.
One thing Neil has that most wish they did, he has a song for any feeling or emotion that you might have !! He's a musical Masterpiece !!!
Always great to hear someone do a Lightfoot song!
This is the anthem of my life. I've travel all over the world and still I long to be in the fields around any airport (not in rain) but on a bright and beautiful day!

We thoroughly agree!!!!
It's a matter of opinion. I think Peter, Paul, and Mary did it best. check it out.
Gordon Lightfoot. Just the name makes you smile. Thanks Neil.

Such an 'Individual',, such a 'Rebel' .... I love that :)
Wow, beautiful lyrics and this song does touch my soul... Thank you....
Listening in 2020. So many great covers.
This kind of song fits Neil so well! With all his personas and sounds, his folksy sounds still are among the best. His soul settles into this kind of song.
Thank you Neil!
A man who, since the 60s, said what he meant and meant what he said. A hero, 100%!
Just breathtaking.
one of the greatest songs ever !
Beautiful, didn't realize this was a Gordan Lightfoot song, but knew it wasn't Neil written... Thank you commenters and thank you Gordan and thank you Neil!
He never seems to amaze me I wonder how many songs he has to iñ the vault? Go Neil.
nice to hear neil sing this old classic. beats the rat pack types any day.
I've never understood how Neil can split his concentration to play two instruments at once. But I suppose that's what a musician is.
It's probably automatic. Like we automatically breath, Neil Young automatically plays two instruments at once lol
Gordan Lightfoot died today... sad day for music lovers, Canadians and Neil Young.
Priceless memory, Gordan Lightfoot singing this and his other legendary songs,

Top of my bucket list to see this legend. never be another hurry up and pop over the pond mr young ..
Timeless!........you're the man!

Thank you.

I didn't know this song. it's time for Neil Young release a folk album and this song has to be included. It's beautiful!

Neil Young rings the best in life.
A nice rendition with different chords, of Lightfoot's classic.

Wonderful touch of Canadiana.....Neil Young covering Gord Lightfoot's EMR
Nicely done.
Mr Young clearly knows his stuff. But for me this classic by G. Lightfood will always be owned by Peter, Paul and Mary.
You should check out Tony Rice's version.
How about Gordon’s version ?
Perfect, just perfect.
