I appreciate many kinds of good music, I also know all the songs of Johnny Cash and June Carter (Great) and other great artists. However, Elvis remains the greatest musician and entertainer of all time, but in all his songs, all the power of his soul comes out. One could also say that he gave his whole heart to his listeners. Very rarely are covers better than the originals. I'm Canadian and grew up adoring Lightfoot's work, especially this perfect song. Elvis takes it beyond the beyond!

I am English and grew up with my Father singing along to Elvis and this is one I loved so much. Light foot was great but Elvis was pure gold.

What band? This was an acoustic recording. Elvis didn't need all the orchestral accompaniment that was added to his vocals after the recordings.

My mom and granny got me into Elvis when I was 2, he was my first crush. 20 years later and I still love him. My granny passed away last year and one thing I have left is an Elvis quilt that she made for me. Isn’t it crazy how 3 generations of women are fans of a man like Elvis? The first Gordon Lightfoot composition to become well known, this song was composed by the Canadian singer-songwriter in 1964. The tune describes a down-on-luck man far from home, observing the takeoff of a Boeing 707 plane. According to some sources, it was inspired by Lightfoot seeing off a friend at the Los Angeles airport.
Elvis Presley also performed the song during the USA airing of his 1973 Aloha From Hawaii via Satellite TV show. Lightfoot recalled during a 2014 Reddit AMA that it was the favorite cover of any of tunes. "I got a lot of attention on that song," he recalled. "I tried to meet him once, but Elvis had left the building. I never got to meet him, I never did, I almost got to meet him but I never got to meet the guy."
This is a great song by Elvis.

I was only 5yrs old, but I got to see Elvis live in concert in Providence Rhode Island at the Civic Center on June 26 1976!!
"Early Morning Rain" was one of the songs he sing that night, and I'll never ever forget it as long as I live!! I remember that night VIVIDLY!! It's etched in my brain!!! My Dad took me to see Elvis that night, and it's a memory I'll always have, and cherish!!! I miss them both so much!!

Lucky you... in 76' I lived in Warwick, RI and went to Pilgrim HS. At that time I was only 16 and wasn't into Elvis but a few years later I became a fan. I saw Neil Young, Yes, and some othe bands at the Civic Center but boy do I wish now that I'd gone and seen Elvis.
