Thank you for this video Dr Becky. I have been at my goal weight for a number of years now with Keto. However, a neighbour of mine was put on that Ozempic drug by her doctor. She didn’t want to try keto. Sure she lost quite a lot of weight…she said she felt very sick the entire time that she was on this drug. She’s already gained 3/4 of her weight back after being off Ozempic for 3 months. She said her doctor is perplexed by her journey. I told my neighbour about keto; hopefully she investigates all the benefits of Keto.
Dr. Becky..I just wanted to say how much I appreciate the level-headed quality content of this channel. I've been a long-time subscriber, back to the "Two Fit Docs" days, and have learned and continue to learn so much with every post. This discussion about "Keto v. Ozempic" is an excellent example of what I mean and I hope you know just how much you and this channel are appreciated. Thank you for what you do.
Can you speak to the fact that losing weight is different than losing fat? Glp-1 causes weight loss, not fat loss only, which includes bone, muscle, organ etc. People may want to rethink injecting these hormones and making big pharma richer.
Yeeeees! It’s more important to work on losing fat, not just “weight”. A lot of influencers, doctors and the like, only speak on “losing weight”, not “losing fat”.

Dr. Becky, deeply grateful for this clear explanation. Saving it to share and PRAYING for receptive hearts with beloved friends who are being trapped with this newest message for a “fix.” One that has scary side effects. …let food by thy medicine.” I believe this and have found healing through by changing my nutrition. Also have with the addition of a simple daily intermittent fasting routine to help give me the safe boundaries and overcome emotional eating in evenings and through the night. I am so deeply grateful to have found healing of many sicknesses and am maintaining a 160 pound weight loss. I am following your book, “Zero Sugar One Month” to help me reset after a couple of months of allowing “exceptions!” It is superb! So grateful to you and your husband for all you have done to spread hope, inspiration and guidance. May your influence continue to grow, especially in the medical community. GRATEFUL!
Keto as opposed to medication sets you up for the behaviours for success when the weight loss regime is stopped. Reading labels, understanding what your putting in your body, how your body reacts to foods and willpower to stay on track in the face of temptations.
I have been on a keto journey for 4 years. I am 67. Part of my journey is that my body will not be my 20 year old body. I was doing it without much exercise. That has changed I started some at home strength exercises and I have the inclination to add more as I feel better. I eat once or twice a day and usually that is satisfying. I have rarely cheated but I do have planned holidays, passover, Thanksgiving, Rosh Hashana that I eat carbs. It does get mentally harder each time after the holiday to not want to continue eating carbs but I up my satiating foods and I get through it. It is a lesson that carbs are addictive for me and it takes willpower not to keep eating them. Because I won’t stop eating carbs, I rarely start. Friends are on Ozempic. They are not really hungry. I recommend that when they do eat they eat keto and strength train. That way they are also teaching themselves a healthier way of eating. I also recommend that they go to someone who will microdose the GLP1 so they won’t get the side effects just the amount of the hormone they need. If I wasn’t in the place I am I would get a micro dosage but I’m good without. Blessings to all.
Thank you so much for this video. I’m so happy to hear the term intermittent carnivore! This is exactly what I’ve started doing a few days of carnivore albeit not the strict version as I love my coffee so I’m happy to hear your doing the same. I value your balanced approach to good health.
I was a long-term user of LMNT however switched to Keto-chow's "Salt T" because they have no added Maltodextrin. As a recovering T2 diabetic, my insulin sensitivity is a huge concern and although I prefer LMNT to the Salt-T alternative (taste-wise), I'm a little angry with LMNT for failing, until recently, to disclose the nearly 1/2 gram/packet of Maltodextrin. I'd really love to hear your opinion about this issue and about the possible presence of Maltodextrin in other foods/drinks like flavored fizzy waters etc. under the banner of "Natural Flavors." I'd love to not worry about Maltodextrin, but doubt that I can in good-conscience.
0:57 Sadly, the “all you need to do is shop differently…” is all too similar to “why don’t you just eat less, move more” etc. I agree that changing diet is far better than injecting a drug, but to suggest that people with a food issue can simply, just, or do, anything they choose is to misunderstand and risk trivialising the problem of food addiction. I know this is the last thing that is intended, but the lenses that correct your vision will not necessarily correct mine, so can we acknowledge without judgement that glp1 medicines are the right choice for many people. Outcomes before ideology.
I love your videos, I started with strict Keto then moved to a low carb with emphasis on protein, I would like to try carnivore but I struggle to eat large portions of meat. Any ideas.
Interesting how we never hear about the side effects on the news! After having emergency small intestine surgery last year I would NEVER take a drug that would mess with my intestines! If it messes with intestines I'm wondering if these drugs could slow down or hurt other body processes??

@candy3302 Agreed! I’ve also pointed out how continuing to promote lmnt degrades Dr. Becky’s own credibility. Her response was that she spoke with the company, and the amounts of maltodextrin are very small. NOT the point! They’re dishonest and continue to leave maltodextrin off of their ingredients lists. Thus, their flavored electrolytes are essentially no different than all of those other ultra-processed products in the center aisles of the grocery store that she is telling everyone to avoid. 🤔

Hi. I am 80, been on keto for 3 years and no issues at all. Gallbladder gone for 40 years now. You should be just fine but look for others. Some may have different story but for me, sometimes more gas and that is all. Good luck.
Hi Becky, I’m just wondering if keto would be a beneficial diet for me. I am seven years post menopause, and just in the last year or so my Belly has become an issue. I am a thin person and have always been. I was an avid runner for at least 25 years, and recently stopped running because of the joint pain and pretty much all of my body. I was unable to take HRT, because of breast cancer history. My question to you is, how do I get rid of about 3 inches of belly fat, that has accumulated over the past year. I have always been a clean eater. However, I tend to over eat. And I give into sweets. In the past three years became vegetarian, however, I do eat fish. So I’m not a true vegetarian. But I don’t eat meat, so it makes it kind of difficult to get my protein. I rely on tofu, dairy, fish and edamame. I do work out, which includes strength training and walking. I also have a daily yoga practice. I wouldn’t really care about these 3 inches or more possibly. Except that it just makes my clothes uncomfortable at the waist. It’s definitely not a health issue.
I have videos on eating keto/low-carb, belly fat, and menopause that you can find on my channel page. I will also be addressing menopause changes in a video next month.
I did keto, felt awful, and gained a few pounds. Always important to note that keto, vegan, high protein, high complex carb or any other way of eating, is NOT for everyone. Fasting is also not for me. I tried it. You have to figure out, via trial and error, what works for you. And if you're over 50 and female, especially, same with hormone replacement therapy. It's not the same for everyone. For me, (this might not work for you) - eating higher protein, moderate carb and higher fat (nuts and seeds, mostly) PLUS a lot of walking with a weighted vest and 4 challenging weight-lifting sessions per week finally got rid of my post-menopause belly and I'm now stronger and more fit than I've been in years. I'm 60.
I think the common factor and it is the most IMPORTANT factor, adding to your point, I agree we are all diff and what works varies, but there is one thing that is common and shared. THE ELIMINATION OF PROCESSED CRAP (sugar and empty carbs). The rest is choice 🙂
