Back in the 80's this was a diet soup. My friend & I couldn't handle the diet end of it, SO!!!! We added ground beef & invented stuffed cabbage soup in her kitchen in Collinwood Ohio. It tasted so MUCH better!!! Try that you'll like it that way!!! Ground chicken? Less calories!!! Well anyway didn't respect her recipe. And thinking about it, my friend and I were not even fat back then, we thought we were. Wishing I looked like that now. My freind's name is Claudia, she passed away to cancer. I wish she'd be here today to know that this cabbage soup is making a come back!!!
Wow. My husband and I had been enduring head and chest colds and not feeling like eating anything. Then I made this soup today and once the smell filled the apartment, appetites returned! Delicious and we both felt loads better afterward, so thank you very much for posting it!
I made this soup last night (1/8/24.) I used my own garden tomatoes from the freezer, used 1 whole garden grown Georgia pepper from the freezer, added additional celery, carrots, garlic, 4 cups of vegetable broth not 3, and 1 lb. of bratwurst. With or without the brats, it would have been the best soup ever. I'm 67 years young and I know a thing or two about soups and I'm here to tell you, you can't go wrong with this recipe. As my wife kept saying, "this is medicinal." Thank you for sharing this awesome recipe.
One of the best cooking videos I've seen. Very informative, to the point and she doesn't waste time adding unnecessary minutes to the video. I love the fun bits of humor and educational tidbits! I'll be searching for more of these videos.

Okay all 3 of my picky family members , who stress me every dinner time , all gave it 5 stars , absolutely loved it , already asking me to make it again! Thank you so much for the receipe 😊
Omg, this soup brings up some memories. I made it yesterday with dill instead of parsley and added a can of chickpeas. It is perfect in this chilly weather
This is nearly identical to what my wife and I have been making for years - we add celery seed and add extra ginger slices along with the grated. We have a huge garden, so late Spring through Fall, we make it a lot including our own vegetable stock, which includes ginger root _[lots of veggie scraps - it's a mental battle - compost or stock...]._ And we also occasionally add quinoa for protein. We rinse it first then soak it overnight in our vegetable stock, strain and keep the stock and give the quinoa another rinse.
Cumin, coriander, chili, turmeric, ginger, garlic, and parsley or cilantro is very Indian/Curry like. I love it! Gonna try this one. I already make many variations of cabbage soup. And they are all good and satisfying. Thank you for this recipe outline.
Thank you for that term “shimmering” the best marinaras shimmer. I have tried to explain this to people but they didn’t know what I was talking about. I don’t like dull looking sauces. Your cabbage soup looks amazing. This is the way to eat ALL your veggies! I like to add kidney or garbanzo beans as well.

I've been on a feeding tube for all of my life so I'm fascinated by cooking. I was watching just thinking about what the difference is between Cabbage and Lettuce. Thanks!
My docs recommended this diet to me two years ago....now I'm ready. I hate cabbage, I now have to eat it....sigh. This dish was AMAZING! My family loved ir and I brought some to work and they freaked out! Thank you! You are now my go to!
My Granny has been making this for years, she adds a little unsweetened cream and serves with grated cheese on top.We eat it with garlic bread. So delicious.
@leonardmartingeraghty5079 , how interesting ! I never thought of adding the cream..... I used to boil down 2 or 3 peeled and cubed baking potatoes until they were "mush" to thicken mine.... I'll try the cream next time - thank you for sharing this !
She has some lovely jewellery I noticed . The food she makes is really healthy . I like to change things I made mine with Kale from my back yard and added the garlic last to preserve its qualities . Lovely with warm sour dough or pita bread and butter .
This looks so very good. I am cooking it tonight! Weather this week is so cold, freezing every night. I've already made some gumbo (I live in Louisiana) so this soup is perfect for what I'm hungry for. Thank you!
I make this fairly often, freeze in batches which is so convenient. I am fresh garden herbs like oregano and thyme. Then top with plain Greek yoghurt. Sometimes a boiled egg on top. Lovely. Thank you!
I made this tonight. It is really enjoyable, especially for someone who doesn't particularly like veggies. The spice heat level was perfect for me. Thank you.

Just finished making this. I did add a can of beans (garbanzo) as some reviewers suggested. No regrets there. My veggies were all kinda on the large side so I just used a quart of veggie broth. 3 cups is kinda silly. I actually added an additional 15 oz can broth after it cooled, cause it seemed a little lacking to me. I used red Chile flakes, maybe a heaping half teaspoon, and it provided good spice. How to make it better??? Bone broth instead of vegetable broth, which BTW, what is that even made from???
No meat
@Shirmagedrusclau Wrong!! Perfect keto soup if meat is added. I use bison!!
Bones!
