Useful review and you're completely right about the debilitating nature of OCD. Faber-Castell nibs have been amongst the smoothest I've used, so it is good to see them available on a fairly inexpensive pen like the Hexo. One to recommend to folks new to fountain pens? Thank you, Stephen 👍🏾

Totally agree about OCD. Same goes for people declaring themselves 'a bit autistic', or that they have ADHD, just to, I guess, make themselves seem more interesting.

That self-aligning cap is brilliant. With a nice-looking, reasonably-priced pen with a wonderful nib, it's pretty tasty.

I have the Hexo ballpoint and I never considered a fountain pen. However, you have made me reconsider this or any Faber Castell fountain pen. Thank you for this review.

Yes...mine is in matte blue with blue broad nib and very very smooth and very very wet...same nib mounted on the Grip model. However the Loom still supersedes this one in all 3 nibs, F, M (found it to be a but stubbish) and B (almost BB).

Hello there Mr. Brown. I have seen a couple of your videos over the years, every time I'm looking for a new pen I watch your reviews first. I just wanted to say thank you, I appreciate your work here on youtube.

Thanks for the crisp review. I enjoy Fabre Castell nibs in general. I have only the Loom from them and I believe they have the same steel nibs. The Loom has a metal grip with which I have struggled as it keeps slipping on me. I am glad they have a plastic grip here- should be a much better writing experience.

Faber Castell consistently delivers excellent products at a very affordable price. It's been on my top 3 brands for drawing and writing material since I was old enough to have a humble allowance and happily blowing most of it on art supplies 😄

Faber Castell is the no1 brand for drawing. For writing,Inmo Japanese brands like Pilot,Pentel etc, make the best pens and pencils for writting.

Impressive at the price. Also, I'd get it based on your concern about feedback on textured paper -- I like that!

Thanks, Stephen. I'm in agreement on the quality of Faber-Castell medium and broad steel nibs...they're very pleasant.

    Greetings from Australia.
You never mentioned much about the inking option. Just a small cartridge. Will a converter fit. That would be a downer but I would appreciate your thoughts.

This is a cartridge converter pen. They use Faber Castell’s proprietary converters

I have one of these little guys and another is on order from Europe, and I think they're very good pens. Nice feel, good fit and finish, and it sports an excellent nib (mine is black with a medium nib. The one that is on order is dark blue also with a medium nib). At US prices it is a bit overpriced, however. Even so, they're very nice pens. Like 'em.

I'm a little disappointed the nib may have a lot of feedback however love the grip design. The loom had the best nib but the grip section was really the only thing holding it back. Curious if it is interchangeable? Love the solid design though of Faber Castell.

I got one from amazon (official FC shop on amazon) and it came in a very simple tiny green box, all the logos etc were there, but it’s not what is shown in the video - kinda disappointing, and it was cheap, around £14. Did I get a counterfeit?

You did not pick up on the loose fit between the barrel and nib unit which has been mentioned elsewhere. While a good entry level pen the wobble cheapens the pen even more.

Are you 100% sure, that all Faber Castell Hexo f.pens, have that flaw? Please,Im between the Hexo and the Kaweco Sport, which has zero issues?

Story time: I was never much a fan of Faber-Castell pens, mostly for what I find a boring design of their pens. Not all of them mind you, but not interesting of my dollars. I never thought I would ever purchase one. One day, I watched a review of the FC Loom, by a certain SBRE Brown. May be you all have heard of him. Sometimes I watch reviews for just the sheer entertainment and passion of fountain pens, because I definitely wasn't watching it for a review of the pen. Now I am a fan of a super smooth nib, and if memory serves me correctly Stephen mentioned that he feels, FC made the best or one of the best steel nibs out there. He raved about the smoothness of the nib. So I, open my mind, and the next time I was in a pen shop decided to test run the Loom, and it was impressive, but to me just ugly. But it was implanted in my mind, that if I came across an interesting looking FC, I'd be open to purchase. Fast forward some months and I came upon an E-Motion in Ivory Croc. LOVED it! It looked very clean, elegant, and appealed to me immediately. I purchased it with a broad nib. The first time I inked it up and wrote, I literally said, WOW!" It was the first and only time I've said that. Not because I don't have super smooth nibs, I do, but that kind of shock value has worn off. I might say, wow in my head, but I don't recall ever saying it out loud again after that. You never forget your first time. Moral of the story: You can choose your own moral. And, perhaps listen to the Dr. Remember he has to do no harm. :)

I paid a LOT more than that in Australia and got a lot less. In a word: lemon. Faber Castell didn't bother to reply to my email so I am left with the feeling that their service is about as good as their product. The pen languishes in a drawer cos I don't even want to look at the thing. Horrible experience.

Well designed and well produced pens made in Germany, what else can go wrong? Like the Japanese, the Germans have this mentality that if you have to do it, do it properly.

As OCD falls within the realm of your profession, I can see your touchiness on the topic. But I would couch it by saying I am also obsessed with how things line up with my pens. This draws a conclusion to say a person could be OC without the D.
