I always thought that the bottomless cartridge is a placeholder. You can put it in the back of the barrel to prevent the real ink cartridge from getting lose and moving.
It is, and it wouldn’t work for that if you filled it first, so I understand and appreciate why they leave the back off. But wish they left the plug in the hole to keep us all from learning while trying to fill it 😂 rite of passage for fountain pen collectors.
The Hexo was the first Faber-Castell that I got. Loved the shape and size and then got the Ambition. The build qualities are quite nice. Once again great review!
I got into fountain pens about a month ago and I’ve been loving your content. I really like your detailed thoughts on the engineering of the pens, I’ve learned a lot from you! Thanks for the videos!
These pens look lovely! It’s why I watch you-your attention to detail with the pens and inks is amazing. I had some fountain pens sitting in a drawer, and thanks to you, I now know how to fix them and enjoy writing with them again. This new hobby has brought me so much joy, and I’ve learned a lot from you. Thank you!
Great reviews, thank you! I laughed at your mishap with squirting ink into the "bottomless" cartridge, because I did the exact same thing with my Faber Castell Hexo. I am impressed with the nib, and wanted to watch this review to consider another FC pen.
I just wanted to say that I appreciate your content, congrats on 30k I went through a lot of youtubers who do videos on fountain pens but your handwriting and the content, not to mention your ability to fix some of the pens is admirable. Keep up the good work bud.
Great review, thanks! The Grip was the pen that converted me to using fountain pens as my everyday, everywhere, writer. I’d never had a pen so comfortable and seemingly made for how I hold my pens! It was my gateway to the wider world of fountain pens and I’m having a ball exploring, even though I’m still in the entry way. I’ve got the Ambition on my wishlist but had never seen the Neo before - I can tell you though it’s love at first sight! Thanks again 😊
Wow! These are beautiful pens. Thanks, as always, for putting them on my radar. Ambition is particularly fun. We have fountain pens made from lava, but I somehow never thought about wood. Amazing! Thanks, as always, for your work in bringing these things to our attention. You always do great work!
Huge congrats on hitting 30k subscribers, and what a great trifecta of pens to celebrate. Your videos are always super informative and well put together, here's to the next 30k!
These are lovely pens! I haven't tried any Faber-Castell pens. The ones reviewed here are beautiful!!! Congratulations on 30,000! Love your videos!!! Thank you for the chance to win!
I work as a teacher, and i write A LOT. so i just recently found out that i would treat myself to a fountain pen. And i just love em. Been surfing youtube ever since. Love your channel, And GL everyone :)
The best nib I had the chance to use is from Faber castell . Lovely writer. That neo slim is gorgeous. Need to add it to my list . Congratulations on your 30k milestone
Thank you Besket, Doodlebud, and Faber Castell! I used to love their brush pens and used them next to tombow. Never thought about their fountain pens! Love that neo slim and ambition!
Big fan from here in Vancouver! Congrats on 30K and what a lovely way to mark the occasion. Your videos are always hugely helpful when looking for info on pens!
Congratulations on reaching 30,000 subscribers. I agree with those who love the look of the Neo Slim. I think that would be my first choice of these three pens were I to have that choice. The Ambition would be a close second. I'm not so much into triangular grips because of how I hold a pen. So that would be my third choice, though I would be happy to win any of these pens.
Hi there Mr Doodle, I'm an Australian living in rural Thailand. It's next to impossible to buy fountain pens such as Fabre Castel here. Whilst there are some local online options allowing you to puchase a limited range of Chinese pens anything else is virtually off limits. I've recently returned from Australia with a selection of new pens, ink and notebooks sufficient to keep me entertained until my next trip back to Australia. I'm always surprised by the number of fountain pen reviewers that seem to have next to no ability to write cursive that is readable. It's obvious that many are trying hard to write fluidly with litte success. Your hand writing is a natural version of cursive that is obviously fluid and unpretentious.Enjoy your informative reviews. Keep up the good work!
Faber Castell is one of the few brands that I have yet to add to my collection. Your in-depth reviews are always greatly appreciated! Now to just decide which one to add to my list... Lol
I feel like this is a great showing to people new to Faber Castell fountain pens, not just about the hazards of trusting an new empty cartridge! Great Video!
Congrats on 30,000. That's crazy. I've been here most of the way and you've done a great job. I've never had a Faber Castell so this is super interesting to me. I'm not sure why, but who knows, maybe I get lucky and get introduced to a new brand. Congrats again.
Wow, excited to see this video after recently reading on Reddit that FC produces nibs that surprising feel the most like a hot knife through butter. This is my first serious look at FC pens. I really like the neo slim! Thanks for the great review!
Congratulations on 30k subscribers! Thank you for the video, and for sacrificing your clothes and carpet for us viewers! 🙂 All kidding aside, I had an ink mishap the other day and found Amodex stain remover worked in getting the stain out. All of my Faber Castell fountain pens have come with two cartridges, one with black ink and one that is empty/bottomless-I thought it was odd at first, too. I (sometimes) use the bottomless cartridge as a spacer in the barrel when I have only one full cartridge (small side facing the back of the barrel). I also use it in cleaning nib sections. I connect a bulb syringe to the back of the cartridge so it easily fits into (most) nib sections for flushing. I can also use it in other pens that are tough to clean (e.g., Montblanc Bohem). I do the same with a Lamy cartridge; I cut off the back of a spent cartridge and fit a bulb syringe to the back of the cartridge, making it easier to flush out my Lamy pens.
New to the fountain pen world, and have found this channel to be a wealth of information. Glad to see the technical insights, and appreciate the effort required to produce such well thought out videos
I've only recently found the fountain pen world and what a deep dive into this rabbit hole it has been! One of my first videos I watched on YT was yours. Thank you for your detailed videos. Keep up with your great work!
I have an Emotion and I love the way it writes. I am really interested in finding out how other Faber Castells writes. Congrats on 30,000. I really like your videos, especially how technical they can be, not just the normal reviews. Thanks for all you do.
Thanks for the review and giveaway - I love the engineer's attention to detail in your videos! Oh, and congratulations on breaking the 30K subscriber mark!
What I like about Faber Castell is their pens are some of the rare ones that have a completely flat and straight side. This allows them to rest closed on a flat surface without wobble. Great video!
That Neo Slim Nib look very interesting. Reminds me of the Falcon nib. Thanks for all you do for the hobby! We watch you because you have a great engineering mind and your reviews are fair and reasonable. You look out for us the consumer and we really appreciate that.
Great, lively, honest video of 3 interesting pens. I don't have a Faber Castell fountain pen, but used their technical pens and found them excellent so a Loom was always a planned future buy. Now I can see that I'm going to have to try these too. Your word classy is what I have always felt about the brand.
Thanks for this. I have a couple of Faber Castell Ondoros which are favourite pens, but the Grip review convinced me to get one for a grand daughter who loves to use mine when she gets the chance.
Congratulations on reaching a well deserved milestone! This is the most underrated fountain pen channel on RUclips and I'm happy it's trending in the right direction.
Wow! I've always like Faber Castell pens, especially those nibs! I have a few but I'm sure they'd never mind a new friend joining 'em! Thanks to you and Blesket as well!
Always a pleasure, DB, to listen to your reviews, so a triple review is a special treat. I have more pens than I can possibly use enough to get to know them all well as I would like, but I don't have much experience with Faber Castell... another case of lifelong learning.
Hey Doodle Bud great video. I’m a fan of the FC fountain pens thanks totally to your influence. The FC steel nibs are as good if not better than many gold ones. A really good make of pen perhaps underrated here in the UK. Thank you
Love the engineering insights you add to reviews. And your mention of the "bottomless" ink cartridge. The curved down nib is the same as on my Cross slim format fountain pens.
Love the Faber Castell pens. My only one was a gift from a friend whose father had it and he inherited it but never used fountain pens and he gave it to me. Writes really well. Thank you for the give away and I’m hopeful. Thanks again for your videos, I always enjoy 😊
I've just entered this fountain pen world and.. can't stop using it. Even though I only have 2 pens, cheap preppy and Kakuno, both are great pens, planning on buying TWSBI pen soon. Nice video btw, love that pen!
Congratulations on your 30K milestone! While I own quite a few pens, I do not own any Faber Castell pens. I do love their Inks. Winning would be nice a day before my birthday. But I will congratulate the winners now just in case I am not one of them. I love your content and approach to reviewing, analyzing, and giving us the engineers perspective of fountain pens.
Thanks for the very enjoyable video. I’ve never owned a Faber-Castell fountain pen, although I have owned some of their drawing pens and they were excellent. Thanks for the opportunity.
Congratulations to the winners, whomever they will be. Another great video Doodlebud. I don’t have any FC pens so I appreciate the detail in your video
The ambition looks great! Been a silent lurker of your channel and got my Majohn A1 after your review from the same store on aliexpress! Thanks for the great work!
Before I got into fountain pens I did some youtube crawling to get an idea of what I was getting into. Between you and Inkquiring Minds I have gotten alot of knowledge and have saved a ton of money. So congrats on the 30k and here is to you getting 100k soon!
Congratulations on thirty-something thousand subscribers. I have several Faber Castell pens - Ambition, E Motion, Loom, etc - and I can assure you that all the nibs are excellent. Keep up the good work, Mr. Doodlebud. It is really appreciated when someone knows a lot about what they are talking about. Greetings from Europe.
Another great video, as an engineer myself, I use a fountain pen at work, and I love the analytical approach to your videos and the information you provide for many different types of pens keep up the great work 👍
I just started being interested in fountain pens - along with trying to improve my handwriting. I really enjoy your pen reviews, you go into such detail and are so thorough - provide all the information I could want. All three of the reviewed Faber Castell pens look great.
I love seeing your take on pens. With your approach from the view of an engineer it is a refreshing change from a lot of other reviewers. The nib on the Neo Slim looks similar in design to the nib on the Pilot Falcon which has a nib that curves down too.
Hi Doodlebud. I just got into fountain pens last week and your channel is the one that did it. Already have a Varsity and Safari but would love the chance to grow my collection. Keep up the great work!👍🏻
Always turn to you for knowledgeable, reliable and fair reviews. Thank you for sharing your wealth of knowledge as well as your passion for fountain pens. Good luck to everyone! 🤞🏼🤞🏼 Neo Slim! 🤞🏼🤞🏼
Your channel is one of my favorites!! 30,000 subscribers is awesome!!!! No big surprise that you have that many!! I always learn so much from your videos.
The wooden pen is truly gorgeous! Got into fountain pens when I was in elementary and have been using them for years now. I’ve always adored Fabre Castell. Thanks for the review!
Thanks!
WOW! Thanks buddy!
@@Doodlebud pls dont be biased towards his comment now 😅
Faber Castell is one of the most under-rated brands. Love the e-motion in particular.
Haa! I did the exact same thing by filling the backless cartridge and got ink all over my pants at work. You are not alone, my friend.
Oh man, at work is way worse than at home!
I think it's for cleaning purposes. So you can put it on a syringe. Probably those syringe sizes are easier to find in German stores.
I recently entered the FP world and have come to really appreciate the engineering and analytical approach you take with your videos.
That's true. I don't know any other reviewers wirh such a knowledge and approach.
I got the Faber castell grip for my daughter years ago, she still uses it regularly. I do prefer it to the Lamy Safari. A great starter pen!
Good luck everyone and always nice to have another pen! I recently got back into fountain pens and love it
DAMN, THAT BLACK NEOSLIM LOOKS GEORGEOUS !
GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE !
THANK U DOODLEBUD AND BLESKET FOR THIS !
When you mentioned how that one person held her pen, the words lobster claw came to mind. Congratulations on the 30,000 subscriber mark.
The Hexo was the first Faber-Castell that I got. Loved the shape and size and then got the Ambition. The build qualities are quite nice. Once again great review!
Been watching your channel for several years and always enjoy the quality of your reviews. Congrats on your 30k milestone.
Love Faber Castell steel nibs. Very smooth writing.
I'd enjoy trying these out; I don't think I would have looked for these without this review. Thanks!
I have given the faber Castell as a gift for people starting out. It’s a really great entry level pen!
I got into fountain pens about a month ago and I’ve been loving your content. I really like your detailed thoughts on the engineering of the pens, I’ve learned a lot from you! Thanks for the videos!
I found your channel a couple of months ago and bought my Gravitas Entry because of your review! Thank you for all the reviews and tips.
I don't follow a ton of fountain pen channels, but I'm always super excited to see a video of you're pop up! Great review as always!
DoodleMeister always giving the reviews we can trust! 🎉 congratulations to you on 30,000!!
I've never owned a fountain pen, but I always enjoy listening to people talk about their passions and I find your videos particularly entertaining!
Just started getting into fountain pens this last week and your videos have been super helpful! Thanks for everything!
Faber-castell makes a lot of art supplies. I really enjoy using them!!!
Thank you!
Congrats on 30K subs! Faber-Castell is amazing. Lovely pens, great nibs, and a historic brand name.
Great reviews, thank you! I laughed at your mishap with squirting ink into the "bottomless" cartridge, because I did the exact same thing with my Faber Castell Hexo. I am impressed with the nib, and wanted to watch this review to consider another FC pen.
Love that you review pens for a wide range of budgets!
I just wanted to say that I appreciate your content, congrats on 30k I went through a lot of youtubers who do videos on fountain pens but your handwriting and the content, not to mention your ability to fix some of the pens is admirable. Keep up the good work bud.
Thanks for the chance! i just got into fountain pens for sketching. Can't believe i've been missing out for so long.
Great review, thanks! The Grip was the pen that converted me to using fountain pens as my everyday, everywhere, writer. I’d never had a pen so comfortable and seemingly made for how I hold my pens! That's so awesome you hit 30K. Congratulations!! The first fountain pen I bought was a Faber-Castell Loom back in 2016.
Thanks for the review! Looking forward to this GAW since they make such fantastic pens. Good luck to all!
Congratulations on reaching 30,000 subscribers. I agree with those who love the look of the Neo Slim. I think that would be my first choice of these three pens were I to have that choice. Great review thanks! I have used Faber Castell markers and pens and never realised they had Fountain Pens
As a Canadian viewer I really appreciate the blesket discount code! Thanks as always

Thank you so much, email sent
Faber Castell is one of the few brands that I have yet to add to my collection. Your in-depth reviews are always greatly appreciated! Now to just decide which one to add to my list... Lol
Love watching all your reviews. Got myself 3 pens ever since watching and now I only use a fountain pens and my writing is now readable

Convinced me to pull the trigger on an Ambition. Thanks for the review!
Thanks for the review and giveaway - I love the engineer's attention to detail in your videos! Oh, and congratulations on breaking the 30K subscriber mark!
Great video! Faber Castell's fine pens don't get the love they deserve and it's nice to see you review three of them! Well done!
Ain't that the truth.

Really appreciate your reviews and opinion. Congrats on growing the channel, DB
I'd love to finally try a Faber Castell nib. I've heard nothing but great things about them in the community. Also congrats on 30k!
Wow! I've always like Faber Castell pens, especially those nibs! I have a few but I'm sure they'd never mind a new friend joining 'em! Thanks to you and Blesket as well!
Congratulations on 30k! I've not yet experienced a Faber Castell writing instrument. Let's hope that changes soon!
Thank you
My Tamitio is one of my favorite pens and that nib (steel) is so damn good!
Love the engineering insights you add to reviews. And your mention of the "bottomless" ink cartridge. The curved down nib is the same as on my Cross slim format fountain pens.
Thanks for this review! I'm one of those who really love the Safari's grip section, so learning about the Grip was especially interesting.
I just got my first fountain pens. Thank you for the lesson on filling a blank. I don’t think I would’ve noticed. Love your channel and reviews.
Congrats on your 30K milestone, been watching since your pilot custom 912 FA Nib video about 3 years ago.
Love the Faber Castell pens. My only one was a gift from a friend whose father had it and he inherited it but never used fountain pens and he gave it to me. Writes really well. Thank you for the give away and I’m hopeful. Thanks again for your videos, I always enjoy 😊

Watched you for several years. Always very interesting videos. Congrats on 30K followers. Keep it up.
found this channel a few weeks ago and absolutely LOVE the content 😃. On another note, The Ambition looks GORGEOUS, I'm a sucker for Wood + Metal
I've been looking at the Ambition for a while. I think it's time to pull the trigger!
Thank you for the reviews!
Shawn
Congratulations for reaching 30k subs and thank you for all of the in-depth reviews.
DB always does a great job in his videos. My favorite RUclips pen reviewer.
I can totally see myself getting ink everywhere the same way! Congrats on 30k subscribers!
Thank you for caring and sharin! My favorite fountain pen channel.
As a fellow engineer I love the detail you go into on fabrication and design, thanks!
Faber Castel has been a dream of mine. Great looking pens.
Another great video, as an engineer myself, I use a fountain pen at work, and I love the analytical approach to your videos and the information you provide for many different types of pens keep up the great work 👍
The grip series all have the grippy dots on the three faces of the pen/ pencil.
