  • A direct-shift gearbox is an electronically-controlled, dual-clutch,[ multiple-shaft, automatic gearbox, in either a transaxle or traditional transmission layout (depending on engine/drive configuration), with the automated clutch operation, and with fully-automatic or semi-manual gear selection. The first dual-clutch transmissions were derived from Porsche's in-house development for the Porsche 962 in the 1980s.
In simple terms, a DSG automates two separate "manual" gearboxes (and clutches) contained within one housing and working as one unit. It was designed by BorgWarner and is licensed to the Volkswagen Group, with support from IAV GmbH.[citation needed] By using two independent clutches, a DSG can achieve faster shift times and eliminates the torque converter of a conventional epicyclic automatic transmission.[

    Good day ,
There is no doubt there is no match to DSG ‘ s prowess . There have been reliability issues with dry clutch DQ - 200. Am sure Munshi ji follows Arundev Acharya . He sure can shed some light upon various issue faced .
    1. Misbalanced fly wheels
    2. Worn pin selectors
    3. Failed mechatronic units .
    4. Premature wear in clutch pack
VW has made software adjustment , mineral oil modification to delay the above onset . VW have calibration soft ware to gauge the wear during every service . Bases the tolerance readings they renew additional 5 & 6 th year warranty . Sunderdeep ji would appreciate if VW like rest of the world offer a standard warranty of 10 yrs /1.5 lac solely on their gear boxes . This move shall In still more confidence in prospective buyers .
    Note : I do own a 1.2 tsi / DSG ,
VW sources their torque converter from Asin ( Japan ) / 1.0 tsi . DQ 250- wet clutch was mated with TDI engines .

Being a owner of Octavia, Honda City, and camry. I love Octavia but you cannot deny the fact that Skoda and vw cars requires significantly high maintenance. It's true they give the best driving pleasure, it's just your choice if you want to go down that path. On the other hand Toyotas and Hondas also have great driving dynamics and you don't push your car to limits every time you drive it. 2022 camry provides great dynamics and reliability when you compare it to superb.

Between Koreans and VW I will anytime choose VW but I do not agree Hyundai is a copy cat in modern era. Even DSG is not something invented by VW, it was first conceptualized before WW 2 and first used by Porsche race car. VW brought in first production car with dual clutch transmission but that is I guess somewhere 2002. One cannot expect nobody else will have their own versions of DSG in the form of DCT or any other terminology. Hyundai understood the market well and captured accordingly. They are better than VW in electric cars I feel. The Indian mentality supports Hyundai product philosophy and so the market share is the reflection. DSG or DCT both have their reliability issue. Few odd example of vehicles running 2-3 lakh km cannot justify what the internet is full of about DSG failures. Hyundai DCT has its own heating issues. No doubt VW technological knowhow on transmission and engines is praise worthy but Hyundai is not far behind. In fact it has caught up fast in favorable markets. Sister Kia is doing excellent job. Business is all about giving the market what it wants. People like me who love VW's impeccable machines with high end technology and superb drive can say whatsoever but there are different needs of different market and one who caters those needs, capture the market share.

I had 3 DSG ( mechatronic) failures in 40,000 kms. No matter what i did and contacted, they did nothing but repair and give car back. Finally I left my car their for 2 years till conclusion of case filed by me against them which I won thanks to their high headedness. In India under 25 lakh only volkswagen, Skoda, Tata and Mahindra produce 5 star rating cars out of which Tatas and Mahindra's don't have galvanised steel body which means they have tendency to start getting rusted within 5 years of there use. If you are buying top model of XUV 700, XUV 300, Harrier, Safar, Nexon etc. and maintains It really well. Eventually it will get a lot of corrosion and rust within 12 years of it use and you have to scrape it because of the rust. Near the coastal areas of India, scorpios are getting rusted within 4 years. VAG group is best.

DM FLYWHEEL matlab DOUBLE MASS OF THE FLYWHEEL. 😂 sir!! its just for smooth operation of the engine to dampen / reduce the jacking and jumping forces of the reciprocating components in an engine.
I would like to quote here -"gyaan na hone se zada kharab hota hai adhoora gyaan hona"
DSG DQ200 ho ya DCT ho... upshift dono ke ache and quick hain but DSG ka downshift at slower speeds is horrible. Dont miss that !!

SAVW is the only autogroup in India which is giving their technology to the Indian market. Hence we think they're highly advanced. Truth is that other companies choose not to give their advanced tech for Indians.
Toyota has proved what they're capable with their GR Yaris with 260 hp 1.6 3 cylinder engine with a very advanced all wheel drive system, a carbon fiber roof for around 31,000 pounds in the UK with 5 years, 1,60,000km warranty.
Even Hyundai i20 N line is very well made. I have to disagree that Hyundai is copying things now since they're capable of making well engineered cars in the international level.

It's from Aisin Seiki, a Toyota owned Japnese company. Moreover, VW's dry clutch DQ200 gearboxes have high failure rate in Indian conditions. So, definitely can't agree about reliability of DQ200. Hi, Got a query , there are some problems as heard from some youtubers on the DSG transmission in Taigun GT and the error shown was "ESC....", Since I have booked the Virtus GT , so got worried on the same? My point is that, if I get this issue on highway and the Volkswagen service in not nearby then what to do? This problem was faced initially when the car was launched? Is this problem solved totally or should I cancel this and go for Honda City Hybried or the top variant, since Verna 2023 seemed a bogus car to me? But I love the driving Dynamics of Virtus GT. Kindly comment.
Anyway changed from Virtus GT DSG to Virtus GT MT.

    Sir,
I have just now procured a pampered Vento TDI DSG 2018 model. The flywheel has been cahnged just 5k kms back, now the car is at 1.20k kms. What a gearbox it is.I have Duster AMT 2016 model..I do love the Duster, but this transmission just throws the AMT of Duster in the dust. Just covered 220 kms today, and the shifts were seamless, perfect. I do know the notorious nature of DQ200, so i have promised myself to not look at S mode, and drive sedately..After watching ur videos on DSG, I am gonna take special care during rains. Please do guide regarding any other preventive meaaures i need to take.
    Regards

Bass biased video hai ki VW group hi best hai baaki bekar, I own a slavia, Honda city and a Nexon, No doubt slavia is good but my other 2 cars have given me less trouble in last 4 years as compared to slavia in the past 4-5months,2 power windows not working, They don't have spare parts to fix the window, wireless Android auto crashes automatically, loads of issues, brake noises, so please stop being so biased @sunderdeep

I have not ridiculed koreans infact i have ridiculed these buyers who just incline towards features only, or for looks, or for presence I just said pls tk balance stance. Of course for me safety nd build quality is paramount but after that sheer driving dynamics. For Audi…. Audi is VW and VW is audi right. Dey are no poles apart. Audi Q5 and Kodiaq n tiguan share same engine same gearbox and same AWD system. Yes audi comes with sheer brand value nd insignia but i am here for mass passenger market not on luxury brand. Me like middle class hv to see so many things. If most of the things are common and maintenance, parts and trims have huge difference i.e body parts and labour rates of audi den obviously as per my budget i will pick cost effective nd more friendly product which are almost same but are more affordable. Bcz if kodiaq diesel gt serviced in Rs. 17500 for normal after 15000 kms and on the other side Q5 will fall no less den Rs. 50,000 for same stuff.

On Chandigarh Bathinda highway, a Grand i10 was cut into 2 equal parts after hitting a pole. I hope the passengers are OKAY, if they are done, i hope they buy Alcazar top end in Heaven. This is not ridiculing sir. These guys are literally selling tin cans to Indians. As my family spends nearly 30000 kms on roads yearly, i see it as a crime to sell unsafe vehicles. Munish bhai said perfectly- How will a car save its passengers when it can't save itself. At least in North, where fuel quality is far ahead than in the South, people are still not interested in buying German cars. Say i buy Top end Vento TDI DSG for 13.50 lakhs, whereas Top end Verna SX(O) CRDI AT goes for 15.50 plus. I have 2 lakhs window for any emergency. Obviously i am not getting gadgets, but based on my experience of driving both Vento and Verna yesterday only, i can say that Vento is leagues ahead in terms of Steering feel. Hyundai may be masters of class cars, but they just can't tune thier steerings effectively. I have driven nearly 90% Hyundai models, not even a single car had European steering feel. I always buy cars for safety, drivung pleasure. Bought Duster over Creta in 2016, simply because of Ride quality, handling, steering feel, and true top end automatic. Hyundai were not offering Electronic Stability Control in top end car. What a miss. If u spend most of ur driving time on highway, European cars are better, if ur office is 5 kms away, which u cover in 45 minutes, go for any tin can, provided u don't encounter heavy duty trucks. One of those behemoths carried my bumper for more than 100 meters after its guard hit my car. I was scared to death. and u can find a video over VW build quality where a Vento hit a truck. The axel of truck was dislocated, such was the impact. Cabin of Vento was intact, no damage to both A pillars. This video was main driving force behind myself searching VW VENTO TDI DSG and finally getting 95% original piece with service record(barring bumpers, everything is original, told by the best oainter in North India).

The act of dismantling, understanding the design, preparing similar design with modifications, testing, execution and selling the reverse engineered product is forte of Koreans. DCT overheats since the system gets confused in bumber to bumper tfc. They say don't drive recklessly and that's where reliability comes into play.

So it's still safe to use 1.5 as per Indian petrol? This is the reason people going towards Indian made 1.0 litre turbo engine. Please clarify this doubt as I am fond of 1.5 engine.
