They’re completely full of themselves, but when they sing it sounds like bad karaoke.
...Yep, that’s pretty much how I remember my high school theater productions.
What about the stage kids that did the set and costumes?
@@goldmoonflower5588 I get the sense that stage kids are to theater kids like drummers are to the rest of the band. Everybody knows they're necessary and skilled, but nobody ever seems to acknowledge or respect them.

In my high school the drama department teacher got fired for having an affair with the lead female in the major production of the school year.

my school let a film student make a "movie" with volunteer students. There was an actual script, but the movie never really became a thing or filmed. No it's not. We're just better
I started with theatre tech but I’ve moved to film, it’s more of what I was looking for. I loved running tech though lmao it was fun
This comment cut through me like a hot knife. I’m literally dying 😂 biggest reason I’m looking into stage management though.

@@norefunds4731 what?
@@arcturus8896 Huh?
I go to an arts school, and all the drama (theatre) majors think they can sing, and they’re actually bad singers, and this was a hilariously accurate portrayal.
I know people who can sing but they sing at the most inappropriate times (for example, on a train, when people are trying to relax) that every one gets pissed off.
YESSSS
@@drrd4127 Holy shit so I’m in a school musical, right? Well today most of the other cast members decided that they wanna do a fucking flashmob during lunch this Friday, singing and dancing to “When You’re an Addams” on a large-ass speaker in front of the lunchroom, ruining everyone’s lunchtime and possibly have them roast the shit outta us. Holy shit that is embarrassing. I’m gonna be sitting at a table faraway during that. The director approves of this by the way. 🤦🏾♀️
I saw a topic on r/askreddit about people that peaked in HS. This is a perfect summarry of that 😉🤪
Can we get a link?
Lol theater kids never peaked in high school they are theater kids. Being a theater kid or atleast one like in the video is the opposite of peaking.
@@monkiram I saw it on a yt video.
@Kate Yara why side smile what you want to peak in high school? I didn't say theater kids never peak they just don't peak in high school.
@Kate Yara peaking in high school would be having high school be the best years of your life
Ngl. I’m still bitter over roles I haven’t gotten. I was supposed to be Gertrude in Seussical, Ariel in the Little Mermaid, and Kendra in 13.
I feel that. I was almost mulan in the stage production, but I got nervous on stage and screwed the singing.
I know because later the directors son told me about it.
It's been six years and I'm still salty sometimes
I'm bitter because I auditioned every year and never even got into the show because of a teacher that severely plays favourites
@@danandbands5854 ugh I HATED that. I had that experience at my college. The director would just peg people in holes and wouldn't let them out. I was in her mind apart of backstage crew. And was never allowed on stage.
Danandbands that happened to me in high school! Now I’m in college and I’m actually getting cast by NY directors!
I was bitter over a role, but took solace in knowing that I had mixed feelings about the show itself and the director and I never got along. I saw one of her later shows and didn't like it. I guess that's closure.
Epic playwright Shawn Shawnford's adaptation of "Sailors Take Manhattan" would have probably tanked less than Sherman's adaptation primarily due to its lack of a suddenly abrupt ending.
Oh Jesus, it's one of THEM! RUN!
As a theatre kid I can confirm this is accurate. 👍
Is your username a reference to A Very Potter Musical?
I forgot to mention in the icebreakers video, but welcome aboard, Lily and Tao! I love your energy and enthusiasm, and can't wait to see more!
All of them singing so horribly was a nice touch :D
I was enjoying it till the end. You can't joke about Shawnford's style of abrupt endings, it just isn't done.
Omg do when emo kids grow up. I want to know my future
when they do, they aren't emos anymore
@@Gusploit Damn!
Dedicated emo kids don't get to grow up 💀💀
Skully Nah we just soften down, but remain the same inside. Like we become the tattooed adults/parents who still listen to the same bands as in high school we just have to do adult stuff on the side, at least that’s where I’m headed to starting uni soon and shit lmao
I'm living it. Nothing changes. It's all relative.
I went to a private all-girls school so being nerdy and smart made you super cool. The drama kids were popular. I’ve kept in touch with a few of them and they are EXACTLY LIKE THIS. Old-timey/European hats and everything. They’re hipsters now.

Hopefully they'll make more.
Got signed up with the Theater Kids (Drama club) by being at the right place at the right time, this was the first year our school did drama, It wasn't super serious and we all had fun that's why the acting was natural and we beat our rival school (who have been doing it for years) in amount of awards, also because they went for this abstract hard to understand plays that tried to teach an obvious life lesson and we went for something simple, wholesome and funny. The tour was one of the best times of my life, got to meet such awesome people only a very small group were as serious about their acting (or overacting) as this sketch.
This is pretty accurate...I’ve worked with the Musical kids in my school as a part of the crew (The set), and good lord they are devils...they were so dang rude and toxic and were just emotionally damaging. Just horrible. I’m sure there are lovely people out there that are theater/Musical kids, but they’ve ruined it. I’m sorry if I offended anyone, but I’ve been holding onto this grudge for a while.
Don’t apologize! Theatre kids are insufferable and their vanity is out of this world. The ones at my school were cliquey and made fun of those who didn’t get into pieces. Teachers take part in that damaging by supporting and being close with the students. Same people in all pieces, albeit in different parts.
Lol I like how they litteraly pour tens of thousands of dollars into theater production only to put a play that honestly has just meh music and meh story.
Video production class for life.
One eighth the resources and a better overall product
I have never done theatre my in entire life, not in the drama club, never been on stage, zilch. But in some madness, I decided to take Theatre as my major in university. From an outsider entering the community, I can confirm this still happens.
thats exactly what i did lol
"Let me get some wine" - that's how you can tell it's a sketch about growing up. People drinking wine. That's what TV has taught me.
I wish they had a dude in all black just walk by and roll his eyes while they were singing to represent us crew peeps
"It was politics and war."
*Vietnam flashbacks* aka Miss Saigon flashbacks.
No but really it is really hard to pick out the stabby theatre kids at first but just wait until after the cast announcement and you'll find them.
I paid Shawn Shawnford to write a comment for me. It just didn't ha-

@שחר א. I.....um......I don't get the reference.
Thing have been crazy, and it sucks that we don’t talk that much. שחר א.
No Refunds (It’s from “Sincerely, me” in the musical “Dear Evan Hansen”)
So excited for what she puts out next, this is a really strong start!
Just saying, I was passed up as Wilbur in Hairspray when I was a senior, to a junior who couldn't sing, and I'm still bitter about it. It's been almost 10 years.
I was in the drama club in high school and do some community theater as a hobby but I’ve never considered myself a theater kid because of people like this. I’ve never taken it this seriously. For me It’s just a fun thing to do and get creative with. Theater people always intimidate me to an extent because if you say the wrong thing they get really in your face. That’s why the friends I’ve made through plays think I’m really reserved and quiet; just because I don’t want to get yelled at for liking rent or not liking rent or however I’m supposed to feel about Rent with *this* particular group of people.
I feel like College humor is just calling me out this point

People who peak in high school ALWAYS crash afterwards
“She sang the root note” yooo my heart shriveled at that
I love the new cast members!!!
Does MatPat give off this kind of feel too, when in conversations?
On behalf of your audience, I just wanted to take a moment to thank all the wonderful people at college humor for bringing us such fantastic content on a regular basis and keeping us all so very entertained....keep up the amazing work!
Usually, skits about theater kids are over the top, but this one hurt how accurate it was
I love the new cast members ❤️
Love the new staff
This video is both hilarious and scary accurate, and now I miss drama club and its drama
My college roommate was one of these people, and she was really annoying about it. Any singing activity became a competition. Would make me feel like crap if I didn't know of a musical or play or whatever. She would critique acting in movies and offer what she would had done instead. Ugh
Oh my gosh those people are insufferable! Thinking so highly of themselves they think themselves superior. I am sorry you had to deal with that
Hello police? Grant is wearing a fedora please come and arrest him.... I don't care if it's ironic it is still a crime
That's a trilby, the flagship hat of hipsters. Bogart wore a Fedora.

@@KryssLaBryn Very true. Further reason to love Fedoras. The trilby is the pathetic wannabe Fedora
This was perfect!
I'm auditioning for Les Miserables and I am so glad I didn't do theater when I was in middle school or high school. I was in the choir and loved to draw.

Thank you for reminding me why I never pursued theater or music 😂
I love Lily and Tao!
1:17 forget? Whether the decades are 1½ or 2½ (a quarter of a century) I will NEVER FORGET!
Janie is very underappreciated. Especially since she doesn't have a title card so a lot of people probably though Lily wrote this. Lily's great in this sketch but still you know.
I know nothing about theater but high school hang ups are definitely relatable
I think I'd rather have Slenderman chasing me into Freddy Krueger.
Excellent sketch, Lily.
This was amazing
Lily was such a great addition to the cast
You haven't experienced cringe til you've seen theatre students doing ketamine with their teacher in the disabled toilets during the final months of a performing arts course
lily has my heart 💕🥺
The amount of College Humor skits my school has done is baffling and seeing this makes ANOTHER AND IM GONNA DO THIS
Grant hit that spin with some finesse
This is all too accurate and I guarantee I will be ranting about high school theatre casting choices when I'm an adult too.
Omg love lily's acting!
That end joke was genius. Make abrupt ending to a sentence about abrupt endings but do in a way that it’s easy to miss. very cool
As a former theater kid I can say this is 100% accurate
Trying to figure out if Sean Seanford is a Stephen Sondheim reference??
I hope it is..
it is a Sean Shawnford reference -_-
(Want to add that I was a theatre kid, too...they have it all down PERFECTLY in this sketch!)
I feel personally attacked by how incredibly accurate this is...
It gets worse: when I went to acting conservatory after high school they wouldn't even let us consider auditioning for musical theatre. I'm 47 now and still happy to insufferably go on and on about Sondheim.
Good to know this what I have to look forward to...
That vest and fedora was perfect.
I feel so sorry for theatre kids who grow up and don't have a career in theatre. They have no way of doing what they love and paying the bills
They will find out their teachers lied to them about the actual level of their talent. Only the truly gifted ones succeed.
That poor girlfriend. When you learn that your former theater kid is STILL a theatre kid as an adult, you RUN!
Welp I’m still in high school and yes my friends and I do break into musical songs in the middle of the hallways. Its amazing, I love them
Would anyone else have walked away when they started singing and would they even notice you leave
God bless Seanford. A true legend.
Well, looks like I have my next theatre skit!
It has been too long since we've gotten to hear Grant and Raph sing together.
I took music class with these kids. They were super judgemental and spat in my face when I told them my favorite genre was "folk music"
I like musical theatre music
That must have hurt. They are the most judgmental and exclusive people and the teachers do absolutely nothing. (Sometimes they can bully too)
@Lex Bright Raven 😒 Little bit of Dylan, Neil Young, some stuff from the slavery era (like Dink's Song), Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters,...
A lot of Irish folk (my favorite being The Auld Triangle)
And some classic rock, I am currently enamored with The Band
Can say I have been in a car of people who did plays in high school, and they jumped into singing just like that with me being the one who didn't know what was happening
Yeah theater might have some drama. But have you ever joined Band( including percussion and color guard) that’s a whole different story
Only ex theater kids could be this spot on about theater kids...
I’ll b sat in a class and no matter where I am in the building I can always hear musical theatre students just start belting out tunes 😓😂
