Hi Henry, your method and guidance to learning BIAB is a true blessing to us newbies. It can be overwhelming to say the least. I look forward to watching all of your videos. Be blessed my new BIAB friend.
Thank you Henry! I used to be an avid user of BIAB but haven't in over 20 years. I'm older now and the memory isn't what it used to be, so your videos are a real blessing. Thank you so much for what you do, sir. Aloha!
Thank you Henry. How refreshing to watch this 'no frills: tutorial, that actually encourages you to buy the product, opposed to baffling you with too much information.Much appreciated Mick
I am a songwriter who has, thus far had to rely on paying hired hand musicians to record what I write. I want to work with Band in a Box to give me more freedom to rewite and rewrite and edit, etc. But it's daunting. Thanks so much for laying this out so clearly!
I have owned the Band in a Box for years and never used it because I didn't understand where to start, you have taught more in 15 minutes than what I was playing with for years. Thank you much!!!
Mr. Clarke, you have done an excellent job in tutoring us rookies to Band In A Box. You took away the apprehension that I had as I prepared myself to buy BIAB for the first time. Thanks a million.
Thank you, Henry! I've been using biab for a LONG time, and always had a suspicion that I was not using the program optimally. I do a lot of stuff in biab and move it to my DAW (which used to be Sonar, but now I've moved to Cakewalk by Bandlab), and I'm really looking forward to growing from your excellent instruction.
Thanks for watching. Hopefully you'll be interested in my latest video coming out regarding how I use BIAB with Bandlab !! Of course you probably already know all the ins and outs :-)
Hello Henry from Paisley, Scotland. Thanks for that clear and concise introduction - in my first few days with BIAB and this is enough to give me confidence to begin. Keep it up - will be looking to combine this with a DAW down the road but love how you say "Have Fun" - that's a key to learning for me
Super helpful for someone "considering'" this product. Always have been a solo player "wishing" I could pull a back-up band out of the air like a genie........ This makes me think I can easily do it......
It takes a bit of work and understanding but if you can get a least a good basic understanding of how the product woks it's "ideal" for what you want to do. I will say that it's a bit dependent on the style of music you want to perform. Some styles are better than others.
Just purchased BIAB and yes I I'm a newbie. Thank you for this tutorial. Can't wait to get started... I will subscribe to your channel.. Very cool thanks...Sal...
Thanks Henry. As a teacher myself, I appreciate how you reduce the barriers to getting started. You have a very approachable personality too, very easy to listen to you. I bought BIAB 2010, but never conquered the learning curve. I want to love it, but was confused by so many things including why I couldn’t do 6/8, why I had to put in an end bar, and why midi sounded so bad.
Henry I'm brand new to BIAB 2022. So far just my initial playing around with it this thing rocks!! but I found myself at a loss, as I exhausted pretty quickly what I could do it left me searching for a good tutorial. Enter You!!! Thanks very much for breaking it down this way. This is Exactly what I needed. Greatly appreciate you doing this. Thanks again . Bo NYS
Hi. I have tutorials on composition and a host of other things. I suggest for adding instruments you look at the video "4 tips to enhance your music production". I think that will help you out quite a bit.
Recently put my home studio together after a long absence and found your channel. Really love what you are doing: your teaching style, method, and personality are great and your instructions are clear. You have a new subscriber. I've already learned some things I didn't know. Thanks again.
Just watched that. Great stuff. I used Biab years ago but re purchased last week and you've reminded me of how it works. Yes quite the way I go about heading in the right direction to create music. Really good tutorial. Thanks for making and sharing video. Mike
Your tutorials are FANTASTIC. I'm brand new to Band-In-A-Box as a tool for creating backing tracks. If not for your tutorials - which I'm watching in order - I would be seriously floundering. THANK YOU for your tutorials on Band-In-A-Box.
Hi Henry, I was a BB user back in the very early days WAY WAY before real tracks & such & have just returned to a completely new beast. Thank you for a down to earth re-introduction to one of my favourite music apps, I'll defiantly be supporting your channel from here on.
Great tutorial Henry! Do keep up the tutorials. They are always helpful and interesting. Thank you so much. Ihave tended to get overwhelmed with BIAB sometimes. Therefore your basic tutorial makes a lot of sense and I have learned something new today, with your guidence already! Best regards :-)....Mike(in England) !
Wow! I am just getting started, and the app screen is intimidating, so complex, as it needs to be with all of the options involved. But to get started now I can immediately boot it up and start using it. Thank you, I subscribed!
You know what , you are big deal to this application, i bought this app but i don’t know how to start , thank you for this video , i need to train my self to triad chords in piano in every key, that what i want , can you give us a video to that please. Thanks 🙏
I've used BnB off and on since it was first introduced but have never stayed with it long enough to remember what I learned. I am now getting back into BnB 2018 and your videos are helping me get reestablished with its function's. Now subbed!
Thank you so much Mr, Clarke. This was a perfect intro for a beginner like me. I haven't opened BB since the late 90s and it's sure changed!!!! Thanks again. Subscribed and liked.
Well, even as a retired computer programmer and IT professional involved in almost all aspects of data and software support, I found BIAB kind of frustrating! Thanks Henry for just starting at zero and presenting in small chunks! I appreciate it!
Thanks for all the great tutorials, Henry. I'm basically just beginning but I think I've learned more from you than I have from the BIAB tutorials. I just wish you lived next door so I could pick your brain on a daily basis. And your own songs and covers are great too. You're a very good vocalist. Looking forward to learning more, especially about using a DAW in BIAB, as I've never used a DAW before. If I had my druthers, I'd still use tape because I more or less knew what I was doing with tape (yes, I'm old too) and didn't need to learn any kind of computer programming.
Just hit me up with a question is something is not clear. Sometimes I must admit I assume a certain level of experience everyone does not have. Thanks for watching.
Thanks so much! I was totally clueless and now I’m way farther ahead than I thought I would be after just this 1 tutorial. I wish there was a link at the end for the best next video!
Mr. Clark, I don't speak much English, but I have to thank you. For many years, I still started and ended with BIAB because of its complexity. For the first time, I'm glad to know how to get started. Your lessons are amazing. Thank you very much, Mr. Teacher ... Matej
just wanna thank you for inspring me to again enjoy writing and recording music at 66.I now have 23 songs distributed by Distrokid and love writing and recording. Thanks!!!
That's awesome. I have quite a few in distribution. It's really inspiring when you start picking up listeners I have over 23k listeners per month on Spotify and I'm close to 70.
OMG finally a tutorial for the ABSOLUTE beginner. What a relief. Everything else I have found assumes previous knowledge or goes way too fast. This was very repetitive but I think that was good because I really have these few concepts down now as I followed along this tutorial with my BIAB program in real time. It is a rare teacher who can step into the shoes of the student and present based on those needs rather than his/her own. Thanks you!
Thanks Henry. . I bought BIAB 2018 but never really understand how to use it and the difference between BIAB and Realband. So I forgot it. However now I see how powerful this kit is! In particular your comments on realband versus a DAW have made the whole thing clear to me at last. Can you believe I thought Realband was an upgrade to BIAB to be used as a preference! You are now my go-to tutor.
WOW! Love that line, " Sometimes we are limited by our own knowledge." Thanks for choosing Funk ( Working on some Funk backing tracks presently." Amazing analytical perspective to using BIAB...🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏 Much appreciated Henry !!!!!
I had 2015 BIAB and used it for years so now I'm looking at this video to see what is different because I have 2022 ordered and it should be here in a day or two. This vid looks very good as a refresher and a clue to anything that might have changed. Thanks man !
I would "save is" with a name starting with "A" so it would be at the top of the list to find easier. But I forgot about the .SGU ending. See I'm learning already !
Thank you for all you are doing. I especially liked this one about going back to basics, choosing a style and playing a demo. I was writing a song in minutes. Much faster than all the other songwriting methods I have experimented with.
Nicely broken down for a fresh user. It's very much the same advice as I'd give talking someone through the "daunting" first glance. Everything else can wait a bit, and some won't ever need to explore every option.
Yes. I agree with you totally, I just thought I'd take a user through some of the videos step by step. Hell, even I don't use all the menus ... hahahahahaha Take care my friend !! :_)
Thanks, Henry... this was a great intro. I've got the newest version of BIAB, the 2022 one, and I see slight differences... but your video is still great for the very basics. Will look for other videos of yours too as I get more proficient! I have to play around w/ it... Would want to see how/when to use that LOOP button you talked about, and also how to visually spot where they put in the Choruses. Thank you!
Hi. Glad the video helped. I did use loops when I created the song "Walk on By". This video explains how I used them ruclips.net/video/h4gWNHY0pQs/видео.html
Finally managed to get some backing Henry, had to load in 'Real Tracks' I must be dyslexic at least with BIAB, I've used high end software like 3D software to make a full length 3D cartoon, I've used complicated printing software at work that cost thousands of pounds (retired now though), but I continually scratch my head with this software, you are a genius!! But I'll carry on, because I don't think there is anything else to beat the end results like this does. Thanks.
Yes it does have a bit of a learning curve but if you take your time and create your own methodology (I don't know where you are with the product) I have tutorials on a lot of the features to help you not only get started but enhance your tracks. Just gotta keep at it :-)
Henry, Awesome video! I was completely lost with the idea of purchasing Band in a Box until I saw this video. I am learning to play Tenor saxophone and want something that will help me stay in time, have a melody that I can start improving and improvising with! Thank you!
Cool. I think it's a great tool for jamming against. I use if quite a bit to see where I want to take a song. Did you see my video on using it to help create melodies. Might be excellent for a sax guy to play around with. Thanks again. Henry
Well Thank You. I hope you can quickly grasp the basic principles and run with it. There's a lot to learn but with a little patience you'll be rolling out those tunes !! :-)
Very refreshing intro. Would be good if you could do a video about looping a section. I know its basic but when I started I did not know that one has to drag a single bar to loop it. Looping a section is my most used function for practice
Very clear & concise. As someone who does not have a degree in music and/or does not play the keyboards I find your videos just what is needed to learn. I find the videos put out by band in the box themselves to be too technical and definitely slanted toward trained musicians. Those videos assume a high degree of knowledge of both music and the program itself. I have watched the training videos for the 2025 version of Band in a Box and they are all about making your own MIDI files and using other software and the instructor is moving the cursor all over the map (which is so distracting) and they don't show you how to get to where they are showing you on screen - they lose me right at the beginning.
Awesome tutorial! I'll be 71 in another month Henry and at this point in my life I get a little bit impatient with trying to learn new things even though I have a strong hunger to learn. ( I aint exactly got a lot of time) 😂 About a year ago I downloaded Reaper.. My 1st DAW. After fiddling around with that for about a month I gave up on it. Thank you for making Band in a Box seem simple enough for even me to get started on it. I've been a guitar player and a singer for over 50 years now. I always played alone but now I feel like I have a band. That's a great feeling! Kudos to you my friend and thank you, thank you, thank you.... Randy
You're more than welcome and best of luck. We're not that far apart in age. This is the time of our life where we can do what we want musically and it really doesn't matter.
Hi Henry, first of all Great video! I have a Question: When I click on Load Song Demo, for the exact same style you've picked "_EVFNK60" I don't see 2 options to choose from (One with Vintage E-Piano and other with Sax Solo) like you did..Is there a hidden feature I have to enable or what? It just don't work for me the way you showed in your video..Please help me out...Thanks! Appreciate it! UPDATE FIXED! OMG. The options for that is showen in the left top corner, is that a bug? I missed it...
Just subscribed, thanks you so much for doing this basic intro to BIAB! Older guy who is not familiar with DAW's or this type of program, but does have an IT background. It really helped. Using the 2022 version but was still able to find my way around.
I initially thought the screen had changed a lot until I found the very, very small icons at the top left, just by the plugin dropdown. There are options from minimal, normal and DAW mode. I think my install defaulted to 'minimal' and the tutorial is in 'normal' mode. Flipped that and everything matches now.
I love using BIAB and your tutorials have been priceless. This has been my go to tool for songwriting and production. I have started a product review website and would like your permission to post one of your RUclips links in my review. Thanks for all your help.
@@Muzaert DAW Integration is not so basic as you may think. Sure it's easy if you're doing only a few tracks but as you start adding things like Utility Tracks it gets a bit more complex. I have a tutorial on basic DAW integration ruclips.net/video/yRfjTKiMVYY/видео.html but it is not suitable for this presentation. This is for "BASIC" users. DAW integration is not a BASIC function and a lot of basic users do not every use DAWs.
@@henryclarke5407 Thanks for your prompt response, Henry. But @ did it not clear up for me. I wonder, do we talk about the same thing? I referred to the difference between Biab's rather complicated stand-alone version and the since a few years existing thinned-out, very basic Daw plugin version, called BBM4.app in my UltraPlusPak.
hey Henry great job om your BIAB videos. I had a BB version back in the late 90's or early 2000 but never did much with them. I'm thinking about buying the latest version. Keep those videos coming. Appreciate them.
Hi Henry...I'm also a BB user since the very first DOS version....I've since upgraded probably every 5 years or so and now I'm still a bit behind as I'm using the 2019 Audiophile version. I've used the odd real track player for other recordings I've done when I just needed a musician to do a bit of a part and it wasn't worth hiring a real person. Great videos you're doing for the BB community here! Thanks
I don't use Audiophile. I really couldn't hear that much of a difference. Besides, the streaming sites compress the audio anyway so I just kinda figured why bother. But I'll leave that decision up to you.
Thank you so much Henry for sharing this information. Very well explained.. Looking forward to exploring this further.. A Safe & Blessed Thanksgiving Holiday to you & Yours! God Bless. Keith Hilley.
There are so many variations on PCs out there I really can't go beyond looking at the system requirements to run the software. One thing I will add is that the USB drive version (Which I use) is extremely easy. You just plug and play but I understand that not every has the budget to purchase in this manner.
Best teacher about using music software. The Goat.
Thanks a Lot !!
Just watched Back to Basics. One of the best newbie tutorials I've seen on ANY subject!

I'm so excited I found your channel. I will be watching all your BIAB tutorials!

I'm glad this is helpful.
Henry,
Awesome video!
Henry
Henry you just gained a fan. This was a FANTASTIC tutorial!
Well Thank You. I hope you can quickly grasp the basic principles and run with it. There's a lot to learn but with a little patience you'll be rolling out those tunes !! :-)
I am just starting with the software. I'm glad I discovered your channel. You make it very easy to understand. Thanks.😊
I'm glad you find the tutorials useful.
Very refreshing intro. Would be good if you could do a video about looping a section. I know its basic but when I started I did not know that one has to drag a single bar to loop it. Looping a section is my most used function for practice
Many blessings for gettin' me started!
Keep at it. It gets easier !! :-)
You are great! Thank you for the tutorial. I did ‘subscribe’ and ‘like’. 😊
Awesome! Thank you!
Thanks, I appreciate that, I've tried to make it simple for everyone!
Thank you, Henry! I bought BIAB and needed this. 🙏
Fantastic!
Anybody that uses the term "stuff" like I do a lot, deserves a subscribe.. Well done Henry :o)
hahahahahahahaha !!!
Great job,thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
Awesome tutorial! I'll be 71 in another month Henry and at this point in my life I get a little bit impatient with trying to learn new things even though I have a strong hunger to learn. ( I aint exactly got a lot of time) 😂
About a year ago I downloaded Reaper..
Great job!
Excellent beginner tutorial
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you ,Thank you.
Is It a BUg?
Henry, You are great!
Thanks a lot.
Thank you Henry! I really do appreciate it!
You're welcome. I hope the product works for you.
Just subscribed, thanks you so much for doing this basic intro to BIAB! Older guy who is not familiar with DAW's or this type of program, but does have an IT background. It really helped. Using the 2022 version but was still able to find my way around.
That's good to know. Believe me it gets easier the more you understand what's going on :-)
I initially thought the screen had changed a lot until I found the very, very small icons at the top left, just by the plugin dropdown. There are options from minimal, normal and DAW mode. I think my install defaulted to 'minimal' and the tutorial is in 'normal' mode. Flipped that and everything matches now.
Wow! So helpful, Henry! I'm sure you saved me hours of frustration. Thanks!
I'm so glad that the tutorial was helpful !! :-)
Thank you Henry, I use logic pro just learning bb
Thank You, Sir
You are most welcome
great video Henry, your music is super cool, thanks for sharing. I am an absolute novice on biab. Cheers. Andy. Scotland.
Hi there. Take your time. You'll get there. :-)
Great stuff Henry Many thanks
Glad you enjoyed it
I love using BIAB and your tutorials have been priceless. This has been my go to tool for songwriting and production. I have started a product review website and would like your permission to post one of your RUclips links in my review. Thanks for all your help.
Sure, you have my permission. Thanks !
Thanks
You're Welcome.
Great stuff for me @ 64 years old 👏👏👏😎🌈🌺🤙🏽
We're in the same age group :-)
@@henryclarke5407 Hey youngsters, I am almost 76 years old!
Even more basic would be explaining Biab's daw plugin - so eeasy to understand and apply!
I'm thinking about buying the latest
version. Keep those videos coming. Appreciate them.
Thanks. Just remember that as with any software there may be bugs in the initial release but they usually are straightened out pretty quickly.
Great channel Henry.
Thank You.
Great video, much appreciated!!
Thanks for watching !!
Nice one Henry, great tutorial for beginner's. on BIAB that has Billions of buttons etc.!
Thanks Mr. Phil.
Great help! Thanks!
Thanks
Thanks for viewing.
Great video! Very informative. Do you use the regular version of BIAB or the Audiophile version. Love the easy way you walk through the process.
Thank you and Happy Holidays to you !!
Great video, great channel. Is there a go to video for how to set up your PC to run BIAB?
There are so many variations on PCs out there I really can't go beyond looking at the system requirements to run the software. One thing I will add is that the USB drive version (Which I use) is extremely easy. You just plug and play but I understand that not every has the budget to purchase in this manner.
Love the vibe here :D Subbed!
Thanks so much !! :-)
