Spent 3 days trying to learn from some other guy's video without success. You got me going in less than 11 minutes. Thumbs up! (And middle finger up for the other guy).
Excellent beginner's overview, thank you! Another simple feature worth mentioning: BiaB also enables the user to transpose the song's key (as one would expect!).
I started using BIAB in the late 1980s on a Mac SE. in those days it was MIDI only. No RealTracks. It was still amazing. If you’re trying to cover a song, all you need to do is find it or generate it with Chordify and type it in to BIAB. The most difficult part is choosing which style to use.
Thank you very much- I think it was The helix plug-in (in logic) .. I can’t remember exactly because it has been a long while since I recorded this video.
Lol...C maj9#11 Have fun with that. I was unaware of those crazy chords until a few years ago. I started playing guitar when I was kid and it was all about simple 3 chord and maybe an off chord.
Sounds great. What are you running your guitar through? What gear? I just got the BIAB Mac version that has the DAW plugin. Looking forward to exploring this. Thanks for a really easy to follow tutorial.
Hi- thanks for the comment. I think my guitar was going through logic on my Mac using the built-in amp simulation. I Use a focusrite scarlet audio interface to plug my guitar into my computer.
Yes, I don’t work for the company so I have no reason to try and sell it to you, but all youve got to do is type in the chord and select the style and then hit play
How do you play the guitar with the backing track or save it for a song? Please show the details on how to connect your guitar to a system and save it for later?
I was going into Logic (a separate program) and using their amp simulation plugin within that. Band in a box is for the creation of the backing track only in this case. I’m not sure if band in a box contains any feature for recording (it may but I am not an expert, I’m just a user that made this video for fun)
Also, many thanks for sharing your knowhow, Nick! May I ask you for a solution of my problem with notating lines in BIAB? For example, writing the bassline in the classical jazzsong "Cantaloupe Island". I already know how to use "Not´n" in BIAB. But how to copy & paste one written (bass-) bar to the next, following bars? Then transpose in case of Db7? Same to the great pianovamp of Hancock! Thankful for any advice, regards from Europe, Austria, Guenther!
Thank you ! I am not really very knowledgeable in that area - I am certainly no expert on the product but just a user like yourself. Perhaps you could contact support on the band in a box website. Hope you find the answer you are searching for. Best wishes! Nick
Do you have a video where you import a song you've written & composed & then add extra instruments to it using BIAB? I can't find clear instructions for this anywhere.
Hi Donna, no I just made this video for fun. I would actually do the opposite. I would drag the band in the box exported individual audio files into my recording software project, then you can pick and choose which instrument you want, and then mix the whole thing.
Thanks for the video! Which Band In a Box level and year do you have? Did you purchase any add on packages? Can songs be set up with 3/4, 3/8, 5/8, 6/8, etc. with the base package?
I believe so! I’m not an expert on all the features so it might be a good idea to email them at their website. I have the ultrapak and you can set various time signatures.
I’m using the ultrapak - I have no vested interested in selling any of them as I don’t work for the company -I only have experience with the ultrapak and I find it to be great. I don’t really know much about the other versions.
Not exactly sure what you mean but it will play any chord progression you input with the live instruments. I don’t work for the company so you might want to email band in a box to be certain.
@@nickkellie Just to clarify you mean I could drag the tracks onto protools or logic and then mix them separately on protools? Can you adjust effects on on the individual tracks before they are put on a DAW?
I don’t recall them having effects on to begin with. Just to clarify i don’t work for pg music and am not paid by them so I don’t really know every detail. I just made this video for fun. But yes you can export each instrument as its own stem and mix and add effects to taste. Sometimes I just export bass and drums for example and add my own guitar
@@GreatSongs I know this response is quite a while after your post, but band in a box has reverb as I think it’s only effect. It’s a good idea to turn the reverb off before dragging the parts over to your DAW. That way you can add in whatever reverb you want in ProTools. If you don’t, it will print the WAV file in ProTools with the reverb that you then can’t get rid of.

Same here, well done 👍

Every time I forgot how to use band in a box I come back and watch your video and love how you play :)
I love your playing

That’s awesome! I’ve been using it since the 90s
It really helps me. Thanks Nick.
Hi Nick. Sold my kit changing to a percussion set up congas, timbale, cymbals etc. Hope u r all good.
Oh wow! I’m sure that will be a fun departure!
Thank you Nick.
Great playing. Thank you for the tutorial.
Many thanks!
Man how do you get that fantastic sound. Please inform me
Thank you very much- I think it was The helix plug-in (in logic) .. I can’t remember exactly because it has been a long while since I recorded this video.
Great guitar man
..
Nice video. That last track you did sure wanted to resolve to a Cmaj9
Some of your playing reminds me of my old teacher Shaun Baxter... cool.
I know Shaun well! I used to have lessons from him too!
Great stuff, Nick. I'm sold! Hey, can you tell us what mode you are playing on in the intro piece. Thanks for your great video & great playing.
Thank you! It alternates between 2 bars of E Dorian and 2 bars of D Dorian
good one Nick!
Great video
Great tutorial, Nick!
Thanks James!

Nick, thx for the video. I have 2019 version and will upgrade to 2023 Ultra. Do you give lessons?
Thanks for the tutorial! Your playing is absolutely stellar man
Thank you ! Very kind of you to say!
Great Tutorial! ..question..can BIB generate a Lead Guitar Part ? Thx
I think it can.
Thanks so much @@nickkellie.I need a lead player badly lol

perfetto! grazie davvero.
Very nice. And nice playing also. BTW, you can copy the previous four (or eight) bars by typing K4 (or K8 etc).
good to know - I will try that out. Thank you John!
Fantastic...thanks
What do you use for that sound. I hear a lot of guitarist use that same sound or close to it. And thanks for taking the time to do this demo.dave
I believe I used some kind of plug-in on my computer probably the helix plug-in. The video is a little old now, so I don’t remember exactly
@@nickkellie ok thanks for the feedback. You play very well. extremely well I should say. dave
Thanks so much..is this simple to use?
..i hate complex software that needs a masters degree to operate..i want to focus on music creation.

@brownpunk1794 I think you can get a free trial to test it out first but I’m not sure

De nada, amigo mío. ¡Gracias por tu apoyo!
Very helpful... what kind of pickups do you use nick your tones is great..
Thank you! These are zexcoil pickups. I believe I got the convertible set. They’re silent too which is really useful when recording etc.
Can you save your work in playlists
We didn't hear the Cmaj7/#11 ! :P
n band in a box can we change normal head note
to alphabet head note

I would like to know if a recording with a microphone can be converted to sheet music?
can you change style easily with this program?
Yes it’s very easy and quick to do so
Scuse me, wath is the name of patch with guitar wha wha, thank you
I’m not sure, sorry! It was a while since I filmed this. Maybe I mention it in the video somewhere
What else is need what is the guitar 🎸 plugged into
Hi - my guitar was plugged into my computer for this via logic. Band in a Box only provides the backing tracks.
Does it come with any pre recorded tracks?
Not exactly sure what you mean but it will play any chord progression you input with the live instruments. I don’t work for the company so you might want to email band in a box to be certain.
Can I do the same with Garage band ?
You can create banking tracks, sure- but it’s not designed to create entire backing tracks from simply typing in the chords.
using real track sound?
Yes indeed
Ok let me ask you this . Can pull all those individual tracks into protools or logic as a wav file?
Yes you can. Individual tracks and then mix them
