      No I haven’t, I have asked 7artisans for the lens or a discount but unfortunately they don’t supply older lenses for review. And I can’t afford to buy every lens at the moment. But I do have a LOT more fuji cine lenses in the bank about to be released

    What a fantastic review 👌 how would this lens compare to the Fuji red badge xf8-16mm ?

    • @ThomasBusbyPhotography
      @ThomasBusbyPhotography  Год назад +1

      The wider a lens is the harder it is to make sharp, and making a zoom is harder to make sharp as well.
      I didn’t do the comparisons for my own interest and the 8-16 is impressive for what it is, but I couldn’t find anything as consistent all the way to the edges that I’d consider wide angle

    A very watchable review - unlike most. After noting the prices for 40 year old Carl Zeiss Contax 15mm and 18mm FF lenses, I have this S35 12mm on order. I saw a matte box fitted in one shot but can you confirm that the front element of the 12mm does not rotate?

      @@ThomasBusbyPhotography Well, thank you for the great content, sir. Yeah, I understand, and the fact that you’ve covered this lens on the Fujifilm platform is already great. Immediately thought of the comparison Cine Dailies did with the SLR Magic, and you blew my mind with the focus plain test. Obviously when it comes to the cinema lenses, with native X-mounts, the choices are very little, but you know, a detailed comparison between 7Artisan, Mitakon, SLR Magic like Fuji’s own photo lenses would be the coolest thing. A lot of us in the marginalised parts of the world, can’t just go to a Camera store and try lances or bodies and tests the differences, so when someone like you comes along and gives us good details, it’s extremely appreciated. Like I’m still searching for one decent review about the XF18-120 f4 PZ for example, and some of the other Fuji creators have kind of disappeared, so welcome on the scene.

    Thanks for this tb. I just have a quick question if I may. I now own a XH2S and am learning video more (I don't know if its a natural progression to start with stills and slowly be pulled into the video world but that seems to be where my motivation is heading). Going from Stills to Video, the major thing I notice is 'video lenses'. declicked aperture rings, the cogs for manual focusing etc but typically having no AF.
    Now the question; If someone is thinking of getting into video and the stills side of their photography is not so dependent on AF, are there any downsides to start collecting videography lenses like this 12/2.9 with the intent to use it also for photography? It seems silly perhaps to spend twice, a lens for video, a lens for stills, if that lens for stills is not needing AF for example and you'd be fine to use it manually.
    It might seem really silly, but when I watch reviews of video lenses they never really talk about the glass from a photography perspective, I just wondered if there was a noticeable drawback apart from the obvious things like lacking AF.
    Cheers tb!!

    • @ThomasBusbyPhotography
      @ThomasBusbyPhotography  Год назад +2

      My biggest guess would be at the moment most video lenses are made to resolve 4-6k video, which is no where near as high as say a 40mp sensor for stills, but a still lens that can handle that much detail is very much overkill with how much detail it can handle for most videos.

    • @SummersSnaps
      @SummersSnaps Год назад +2

      @@ThomasBusbyPhotography That's what I was thinking, when you talked briefly about this lens being more than capable for 1080p and 6k and likely 8k, it got me thinking then if resolving 26mp (or 40mp on the XH2) would therefore start to show some resolution problems.

    • @ThomasBusbyPhotography
      @ThomasBusbyPhotography  Год назад +2

      4K video is about 8MP equivalent.
      But if you want your video sharp in the corners ya want a lens that can handle about 12mp at a guess, to be safe.
      Which is most Lens.
      But 8k video is about 33Mp which is really pushing it for a lot of APSC lenses, as the apsc sensors starts to get other flaws over about 26mp, so a lot of aspc lenses haven’t been designed for that higher detail (in photo and video) then fuji find a way to get 40mp on a apsc sensor and it’s great, but MOST lenses can’t handle that
      So if you buy a lens for photography knowing the MP might keep climbing, the better lens you get the more future proof it is.
      With video as the resolution race is much slower as we are currently at about a 4K standard (8mp) video lens focus far more on other features that have more of a benefit to video as resolving 15k video just isn’t something that’s coming any time soon.

    • @ThomasBusbyPhotography
      @ThomasBusbyPhotography  Год назад +1

      The 8-16mm from fuji would be the only one I can think of, but aside from now AF this wouldn’t be a bad photography lens for its price….though it is very heavy

      I have the Carl Zeiss Contax Distagon 21mm F/2.8 and it is a brilliant lens as it's sibling, the 18mm F/4.0 Distagon. These classic primes are fast becoming collectors items now but on S35 via a Speed Booster, they remain truly fantastic Cinema lenses.

    I'm considering using the 7artisans 12mm T2.9 cine lens on my Fujifilm X-S20 for some handheld filming. Is there any warping or distortion I should be aware of when using this lens, and will it affect handheld shooting significantly?

    • @ThomasBusbyPhotography
      @ThomasBusbyPhotography  4 месяца назад

      For handheld it’s a little front heavy and wide, yes on any lens this wide you’ll some distortion and warping depending on how you use it, it most totally hand held.
