About 10 bajillion glitches involving portals. As it turns out, the Source engine doesn't play nice with portals, especially when saves and loads are involved. :P
Y'know, I don't mind people going through glitches for speed runs. The fact that people have to "find" these glitches is where the hard work is put in. Not to mention getting them all right in one run.

In the source engine Bhopping forwards was really op and quite easy to get a lot of momentum with, in portal the creators thought of that and fixed the forward momentum, fortunately for speedrunners they forgot about backwards momentum =D!
It's a bit more complicated than that. It's not so much that they forgot about backwards momentum so much as it is that their fix for bunny hopping actually created a much more potent method for gaining speed due to the way that it tries to prevent bhopping. Basically, if the engine detects that you're going too fast, it'll push you in the opposite direction to slow you down. But if you turn around mid-air after your first jump, it tricks the engine into pushing in the wrong direction, giving you more speed...which makes the engine push even harder, granting even more speed. Rinse and repeat.

no cheats at all... just exploiting errors in the game which is totally fine in a speedrun, its about finishing it without EXTERNAL tools. so as long as its a glich in the game using it ok!
But hey, this speedrun was a triumph, but hey, I'm just making a note here, HUGE SUCCESS. Its pretty hard to overestimate my satisfaction. And about Aperture Science, they do what they must, because they can. But hey, its for the good of all of us, well, exept the ones who are dead... HAH
Tfw that's the responsibility of the designers for leaving the glitch in the game, in a time where games are much more complex than 10 years ago and thus HAVE MORE BUGS.
Let's be honest, most glitches are found randomly, what's harder though is to actually use these glitches to speed up the game :p In portal there are a lot of cool tricks that are... well so far useless for speedrun, they're just cool tricks to mess around.
Zedbrains They saved and quit next to a portal to create the no-clip glitch, but they cut out those parts. Therefore, they used their overall time instead of the full thing.
After watching this i feel that dumb i don't even know if i'm carrying out basic daily activities correctly anymore, i'd bet my months wages this guy can wash his hands in 1/1000th of the time it takes me and still get better results. There is literally nothing you can say that will convince me otherwise so don't even try.

That sentence makes no sense. It could take a million years to find a glitch it could still be considered "cheating". Finding it is not the impressive part.
In reality, even if they are glitching, they aren`t cheating, cheating is using an script, an program outside the game or modificating the archives, speedruning is how fast you can complete the game with the game mechanics, and glitching is taking advantage of them, Iam probably wrong because I dont know much about this, so please correct to me any mistake
Somehow I stumbled upon this over the internet. Even though it has been close to 7 months since the posting of this video, and I've never even played portal before, but it looks impressive, even if I didn't know what was going on half the time. Even a complete outsider like me can appreciated hard work, finesse, and creativity. Cool video!

Most speedruns use some amount of exploits in either the maps or the game mechanics. Just see mirror's edge, where they punch and kick their way across impossible distances :)

They're also in the vein of total science fiction (not science fact) in games and movies and the ones proposed as a hypothesis are cosmological constructs which we humans have nowhere near enough the energy required to create on our own or form as we please. It would be like trying to stop ebbs and floods from happening on Earth - and that is in fact easier. In games and films they're really neat though. So far they're a hypothesis and not theory.

Nah, its easy, works on all platforms and all game versions. The portal just can't be exactly in the middle of that door, it has to be a little bit off in the front or the back

Antti-Jussi Nieminen Then you don't understand what scientific theory means. Wormholes are a *hypothetical* feature. So far not a single one has been proven to exist. They're also in the vein of total science fiction (not science fact) in games and movies and the ones proposed as a hypothesis are cosmological constructs which we humans have nowhere near enough the energy required to create on our own or form as we please. It would be like trying to stop ebbs and floods from happening on Earth - and that is in fact easier.
In games and films they're really neat though. So far they're a hypothesis and not theory.

Long story short, COMPLETING THE GAME AS QUICK AS POSSIBLE THROUGH ANY MEANS NECESSARY
This is most likely an Any% category which is where you use any method to reach the end as possible
It is not 'cheating' because it is in the original source code for this patch of the game, thereby being 'glitches' which are allowed
There are glitchless runs for a lot of games where you can watch a normal playthrough, where you can also stop bothering the runner of the game
if you don't like speedrunning or think this is cheating, please do your research first

it's a glitch, it's pretty complicated and frankly I don't understand it very well so I can't explain the details.
Nah, its easy, works on all platforms and all game versions. The portal just can't be exactly in the middle of that door, it has to be a little bit off in the front or the back
