Horace spending the whole show randomly loving Bridges only to fall in love with a woman named Bridget was one of the most satisfying pay offs I could have asked for
@@CBCook in my opinion it was lazy to name her Bridget it’s like calling a cartoon crocodile “crocky” it would have been better if they had made her come from a family who built bridges for a long time
@@wraithreaper453 But a cartoon crocodile IS a crocodile, she's not a bridge? I just think it's cool that they put thought into her name and didn't just name her like "Sarah" or "Rachel" that wouldn't add anything to the show.
"Skylar" said on the "Kaz and Oliver" Podcast that the only reason she was chosen for the role was because she had gymnastics on her resume, meaning she could do the flips, she had literally never acted on a show before this. It gives me the vibe of those movie adaptation musicals where they hire someone because they sing really well but can't act to say their lives.
Bruh I was about to comment saying Skylar's stunts were worse than mid. I haven't seen the show but in this video, she only did cartwheels and a front flip. A flip off a desk that she stepped up to for the flip. I figured from how bad it was that the reason why they casted her was for those, though. I didn't realise she also had no acting experience. Cartwheels are almost nothing in gymnastics, especially at that age. Artistic gymnastics, tumbling, and tricking are all different disciplines - for action sequences, you generally look for someone who does tricking/martial arts. Given the timeline they're probably working with, I can't really blame them for having poorly choreographed stunts/fights.
Wasnt aang from the movie-that-shall-not-be-named mostly chosen from the martial arts reel he sent in or something? Well we all definitely saw his acting prowess 😅
I’m actually briefly bringing that up during the upcoming Elite Force video and I can’t remember which episode the line is from. Do you remember by chance?
@@KeyanCarlile The first mention of Kaz's siblings is season 1, episode 9, at 9 minutes 12 seconds. He has 11 siblings, two of which are named Kayla because his parents "gave up after the seventh"
i was getting a tour of a med school when the tour guide said something along the lines of "every doctor has watched at least one medial drama." and I was like "no i haven't" but then i remembered this masterpiece exists
The episode about Skylar being a princess in hiding in America because of a rebel group trying to take over the throne, and the gag about Genevieve was a reference to the Disney Channel original movie, Princess Protection Program, and I think everybody should know that, because that movie had an iron grip on me when I was 8
I think the writers based Skylar Storm around Starfire from teen titans but Paris Brelec never saw that show so she basically played it as normal teenager but from space.
@@mrxlr1369 I think Skylar Storm predates Chavez Edit: actually they seem almost contemporaneous. Assuming the series was conceived of at least a year before production and the series didn't air until a year after the start of production, Storm would have been made mid to late 2011, around the same time Chavez made her debut (as a character in the Vengeance series by Joe Casey and Nick Dragotta), though I don't know the odds of the writers both finding a brand new comic series and basing a character off that new series.
@@mrxlr1369 the first episode of mighty med may have aired in 2013 but shows take a lot of time to get to air. I assumed that production took about a year before it went to air, and the pitch development and pre production took another year, so the two characters likely originated around the same time as each other.
i think that happened in ultimate spiderman where kingpin bought some big company that had trademark of spiderman and profited of spidey being a hero, which in turn made peter unable to defeat kingpin because every attempt only empowers him or something like that this one is still better, just not THAT original
The fact that Bradley Steven Perry and Jake Short now have a podcast together is just so wholesome and proves why this show was so great. Their chemistry and humor works great off screen as well. It is called "Hit the Brake"
@@wilh3rdwheel356 I don't mind it, if there's actual effort put into it to make it entertaining and it's not just "look at me I used to be famous give me money pls", it can offer insight into those people who might have been heroes to us or we simply grew up watching them and their experience and humanize them! I watched their episode with Karan Brar from Jessie and it was pretty fun, now I plan on watching their episode with Skylar's actress!
Horace used his power to save 3 unknown people, it's implied Alan accidentally killed 3 unknown patients. Horace used his power to save the people Alan killed. /j
Sadly that means we can't get the dark spinoff about his early life and the struggle of deciding who to save...but it'd make a decent gag in line with the show's usual fare if it was canon, though.
You know, the first episodes make it seems like Kaz has a photographic memory. In the first two episodes, Kaz takes a lot of 'imaginary commemorative photos' which is something I don't think too many people do. He's also the one who recognizes the blue tornado, who besides being a drawn character, and pretty bland looking, was also out of costume. Also when Kaz is asked to remember the contents of a comic, he recites the copyright page before describing the plot. I think Kaz being canonically photographic could have been a really funny recurring gag, especially since he's so impulsive and outwardly idiotic.
And since Oliver also presents these characteristics they could just both be completely idiotic people with photographic memory. Honestly that premise is a lot funnier than just them being nerds
@@markusflex1193 That seems quite likely and I wonder why they might have just not stick with it. Also, if you're interested, the idea of a not-so-bright person having photographic memory was done in a show called A.N.T Farm.
It's the dumbest thing ever, but I get an unhealthy amount of joy out of the fact that Horace's way of preemptively announcing his presence to the villains he isn't aware of is a distance exclamation of "I love hallways!"
The kidney joke between Wallace and Clyde is bc they were on Greys Anatomy as conjoined twins and one of them had to give away their kidney to the other one. I only remember this bc I just bing watched Greys Anatomy and literally every actor was in that show at one time.
I had completely forgotten about principle Perry until you mentioned her and it reminded me of how she saved me in a nightmare once. Like I was about to die and there she was being stubborn as hell and telling me to run while she stopped the killer.
the lack of side characters in lab rats is something i never noticed before, and mighty med is an example of how well they can be utilised. Another show where side characters play pretty significant roles in B and A plots is Kickin' It on Disney XD. off the top of my head i can name at least ten recurring characters, many of whom were crucial players in the story as a whole. if you keep up with this disney XD series i'd love to see you talk about it one day. it was one of my favourites and the very first thing i rewatched when disney plus came out.
You just made me have the craziest unlock of memories of my life. I was thinking "TF is kicking it, must've been after my time." It wasn't, it wasn't after my time at all. I had repressed memories of this shows existence entirely with only snippets of memories that I'd never attributed to any particular show, and then after a quick google search the flood gates fucking spewed open. Wow.
Something that's always amused me is how Lab Rats seemed really squeamish about using the words "kill" and "die", but Mighty Med had no such problem. Also, side note: how could you not mention that Benny the medic is also Dopinder the cabbie from Deadpool?
Bradley Steve Perry and Jake T Austin have made a podcast and in an episode they talk about how abrupt the ending was for Mighty Med and how the team all thought there would be another season. The podcast is hilarious and talks about their time at Disney with guests.
@@bluewuppo if you are inside of a car and your car is getting kicked, you aren’t in fight or flight mode. You only enter fight or flight mode if you are in a life threatening situation and under immense distress. That situation isn’t life threatening, it’d have been life threatening if he wasn’t in the safety of his own car. Then he’d have an excuse. And fight or flight doesn’t work that way, your reaction is to do what you feel is the best way to survive. You don’t either “fight” or “flight” by default, your brain subconsciously choices how to get out of a situation as quickly and easily as possible. If it sees no route of escape, then it fights. That’s what “fight or flight” means
@@pohorex6834 whats considered a life-threatening situation is different for every person. you cant assume it isnt life-threatening to him. you are ignorant, just because you wouldnt deem it life-threatening doesnt mean others wouldnt. stop making assumptions and practice more empathy. and no, fight or flight is not that simple. its an umbrella term for reactions under stress and fear. fight, flight, fawn, freeze, etc etc. it isnt just fight or flight, its the animalistic instinct of self-preservation
2:03:00 while it’s not normally how boys act, it is nice to see male characters voice when they are frustrated, without it ruining their friendship. When you show that you can talk and try to fix things, it breaks the mold for kids who see this and are influenced by the show. They might learn to communicate feelings more. I’m glad to see communication like that especially in a Disney show
Right. Didnt agree with his odd observation, implying that only girl friends have fights..& friends having some petty arguments is automatically a toxic relationship lol
The only thing I remember of this show is that Kaz says he has 12 siblings (11 living with him and another in prison) and that his parents don't keep track of them, meaning that Kaz can work much longer hours than Oliver because his parents don't notice when he's gone. Between his multiple siblings and home life, I thought they were setting up a reveal that Kaz was his parents' 7th son and had powers.
Bro I’ve been saying LGBTQ wrong for my entire life and no one ever corrected me until today. I literally thought the T came first. I never noticed. I’m such a clown I’m so sorry
I think the reason Lab Rats has less specific characters, is because that show is focused on one specific family. Its the Davenport's story. While Mighty Med is focused on a superhero hospital along with the main characters, so more characters are needed.
@@mysticdigital5936 True. Although, that is the first time I think they call Tasha mom though. Plus they also find out they have another brother, and bond a lot more with their real dad (Douglas). So still a lot of family related stuff going on.
See, that you point it out, yeah. The acting doesn't strike me so much as bad (I never thought it was bad, at its worse she still did good) but the way she talks genuinely does come across as someone who's trying to talk like a teenager.
I watched this in Danish and the voice actress also made it feel kind of like she had learned the language, but is fluid in it. This might be my memory wanting to make it work, but if I remember correctly, it was like this. It was a good touch
you're absolutely right about the set layout! my dad was the art director for MM, so he didn't design the set himself, but he did draft it out to be built and worked on a lot of design elements and graphics! so I asked him to show me his plans and it looks p much exactly like what you drew out lol it's kinda insane how spot on you were
You’re definitely right on the whole “they care way more about live-action” thing. Dana Terrace (creator of the recent animated show, The Owl House) has trashed Disney over and over again for their terrible executive decisions and she’s gotten little more than a polite “we’ll do better”
Ikr. The Owl House’s characters just feel genuine and great for the story compared to other animated shows. Even Netflix is canceling animation projects such as BoNe. Granted, they are kinda going down under but that department def got zapped compared to the live actions shows. Kinda sucks in this day and age for animation. Hope great series like The Dragon Prince and etc. hold the line for now.
Considering how much Disney animation is praised, and how much Disney live-action is hated, you really don't sound like you have the slightest idea what you're talking about.
I agree with other comments. I would love to see an in-depth view of “My Baby Sitter’s a Vampire.” I loved that show when I was a kid, and I was crushed when it ended on an “everyone dies?!” cliffhanger. Also, you can review the movie too Edit: also Wizards of Waverley place. I loved that show too
i would also love to see that, as someone who loved that show!! live action shows but with some kind of sci fi or supernatural twist were my favorite as a kid (which is why i loved lab rats as well) so much more interesting than just regular highschool drama or regular life stuff
Something I'm surprised nobody else has realized is, Caduceo is clearly supposed to be this super legendary hero healer. The comic book geeks recognize his symbol instantly and even villains acknowledge his power enough to want to manipulate him into using it for their gain. But his only shown healing ability only has 5 uses, and only 2 of which were used on screen. Did he use the 3 first uses in such a dire situation that it made him a legend? Like did he rock up to a fight where The Great Defender, Tecton and The Crusher all had died and brought them back?
I think he has more powers than just revival. He's known as 'the healer', which suggests more advanced medicinal ability - it's just this one power takes more energy than any other, so he can only do it a certain number of times. It could be that Horace has any number of powers we just haven't been told about Like the original series Dr Who lore - he can only regenerate 12 times, because it takes so much energy, but that doesn't stop him being able to ... use his mind-meld powers, for example.
@@sofh784 we're shown outright that he can basically press pause on anyone on command. Perhaps his other powers, if any, are more supportive like that. Not especially helpful for winning a fight, but enough to defend yourself and others

Fun fact, Paris is my second cousin. The reason why she wasn’t the beast at acting is because this was her first show. While most of the other people had acting experience before, she was just modeling
Honestly she did fine, given the limited experience. Saw her work on Alexa and Katie while watching with a younger cousin and she has clearly gotten more comfortable as an actress and has gained the training to build her career.
There is no way that The Crusher is weaker than Adam. I would like to point out the fact that he sent a doctor (aprox 180 pounds) flying across the entire room slamming into the wall, and the doctor would have probably have kept going if it wasn't for that wall. Secondly he has turned coal into diamonds, which I am pretty sure takes somewhere around 725,000 pounds of pressure per square inch. Another thing is most sites refer to Adam being around 10-20 times the strength of the normal person. Which talking in terms of pounds of pressure when squeezing your hand would be at max (assuming the average amount of pressure of a man, and him being 20 times stronger) 1460 compared to the highest recorded amount of pressure from The Crusher being 725,000 pounds. Grip strength doesn't always equate to how strong they are but someone that has a grip strength of 725,000 pounds is probably stronger then someone with the grip strength of 1460 pounds. This is probably mostly wrong, but this is just my 2 cents IG.
@@kingpen5866The fact that you felt the need to point out the fact that they used the phrase the fact that shows the fact that the phrase the fact that is entirely necessary
They actually did explain how the hero's avoid being seen. The explanation was some of them move so fast that the human eye can't comprehend it so it's just like a thing of wind. Or some hero's freeze time when fighting the villain
Throughout the entire show the heroes move slow enough for kaz Oliver and even regular civilians to see them, plus not all hero’s have super speed in fact characters super speed is considered it’s on separate power like how energy blasts would be considered it’s own power plus horris was probably joking and just froze kaz and Oliver to pretend to be moving to fast for them
I remember watching both Mighty Med and Lab Rats and being an avid fan of both shows, so when I heard about the cross-over show I was really excited for the potential... then the pilot dropped and they just casually mentioned that the Mighty Med hospital was destroyed along with all the character insides leaving only Kaz, Oliver, Skylar as the sole survivors. Like what the heck was that? And the way it was never addressed within the context of Elite Force. Neither Kaz, Oliver, or Skylar ever brought up the destruction of the hospital or their feelings about the sudden death of all the hospital residents. An entire show's supporting cast who we gotten to know over the course of two season just killed, offscreen and never mentioned again. Lab Rats Elite Force did Mighty Med dirty, and the offscreen destruction of the hospital still irks me to this day. Also, greatly appreciate all the work you do to make these videos, thank you for unearthing these repressed memories and doing an amazingly produced deep dive.
it was very clear that the Lab Rats writers just took over (which you can tell by the lack of funny jokes which Mighty Med had and explaining powers like the audience is stupid)
Well, there was the whole plotline of them meeting a superhero friend of Skylar who survived. And how there are still superheroes out there whose names r on a list they had to keep away from the bad guys. I also hated how the combo show just got rid of characters from both shows. I think they could have handled all of them together. I also always thought if the show had lasted longer, they may have gone more in depth with what happened to Mighty Med and Bionic Island.
Okay that Horace twist was honestly such a great situation. To resurrect your fiancée only to learn she never loved you and was simply using you. Also just, the Plot Twist did what it was meant to do. Twist the Plot.
Me and my bro as kids felt so crossed when Mighty Med ended. We kept waiting to see anything for a season 3 but nothing. Years later one of my younger family was watching Mighty Med and they just so happened to watch the last episode of the series on Disney plus, after it ended he asked us if season 3 just wasn't on Disney plus yet and we had to break the news to them that the show just ends there. They too felt crossed.
Right! Don't forget that they never bring up what happened in the ending of Mighty Med on Elite Force either. They basically left everything on a cliffhanger in both shows
The saddest thing about Skylar is that Paris is an amazing actress, as very easily showed by Alexa and Katie, but her lines and story were so underwhelming and overlooked she was completely backhanded in the show also if you think those 2 are the twins with the most sexual tension you have obviously never seen Ouran High School Host Club

As one of the 7 kids who watched Mighty Med, I can attest that the show was really good, at least by Disney sitcom standards. In 4th and 5th grade, Disney XD would air this show before school ever morning so I'd watch it at breakfast every day. This retrospective took me back to those days.
When Horace revives Skylar, I swear he says the name "Thanatos", who is basically Greek mythology's Grim Reaper, who appeared to humans to carry them off to the underworld when the time allotted to them by the Fates had expired. If Horace is actually saying something in Greek or another language, I'd hope he is actually calling out to Thanatos because that would be some crazy story building for one character in a Disney show.
I noticed that too! turns out "thantos" is also just the greek word for "death." I believe another comment said that his full incantation was "death lives life dead" or something like that. cool stuff.
his superhero name is also Caduceo the name of staff of the greek god Hermes which is often (improperly, his staff and that of the actual greek god of medicine, Asclepius look incredibly similar - Hermes has two snakes where Aclepius has one - and have been essentially fused into one symbol for both medicine and Hermes) used as a symbol for medicine related stuff (hospitals, pharmacies, etc.)
@@CallMeFi The Rod of Asclepius and Caduceo are only confused in the US. Everywhere else has the Rod of Asclepius as their symbol of medicine. This confusion also serves as an amazing metaphor for the American healthcare system as Hermes is the god of thieves, liars, and merchants.
Honestly, Mighty Med will always be a favorite of mine. It is a shame I never really got to see how it ended because of the weird crossover/transfer with Lab Rats, but honestly the idea of comic books being like history books of actual super hero's is a really clever idea, and for what it was it was a really fun ride overalll
True but I didn’t mind them being in the crossover of Lab Rats. It is a shame that the series did left on a cliffhanger cause views were down. I understand the actors of Leo & Adam wanted to move onto other projects but a cameo would have been nice
@@littlesparrow303 I agree that it would have been nice to see those characters as well And it's not really the series crossover I minded, more that it felt like the show just cut off and was continued somewhere else Honestly, next time I have Disney plus I should honestly check it out and see how it all went down 😅
When you were talking about how the Mighty Med characters being out if character in the crossover, while the Lab Rats characters are completely in character, it reminded me of how Quinton Reviews said the iCarly characters were completely out of character in the iCarly and Victorious crossover, meanwhile all the Victorious characters are exactly the same as they always are
yoo i just watched that video too! seems like these crossovers did the characters dirty,, each show had its own charms so i wish they couldve kept the different characters true to their character instead of just have characters of another show be guests in the other show's storyline
I found it so interesting that Mighty Med pulled off multiple twist villains in a row, and 2 of them were Skylar. Like they legit did a "Skylar's powers turns out to make her evil" storyline and a "Skylar is secretly evil" storyline....IN THE SAME STORYLINE LIKE WHAT??
As someone whose special interest is Tumblr Sexymen and whose favorite character is Horace, I don't think you understand how much you just blew my mind and made my week. I am going to be insufferable to my LR/MM friends.

However, it's worth noting that a lot of my knowledge is just straight up observation so about half my sources are just 'trust me bro,' so maybe take it all with a grain of salt just in case XD My longest time on record going over this whole thing was about four hours
I think it's very likely that MM actually had a higher budget than LR and just used wayyyy more of it on actors, hence why there were so many named background characters AND so many celebrity appearances, especially in sports stars. This also could contribute to why the main actors overall were better quality than LR. Honestly though, that shows how much more thought and passion went into the writing and showrunning of MM. It's clear the creators had a genuine passion for the world of superheroes and comic books and spent so much effort making their world true to the genre they were using, whereas LR seems more like just. An idea someone had and didn't really know what to do with. The creators weren't really interested in the world of LR, so background characters were entirely irrelevant, while in MM every single background character is still a part of the world the creators made, so of course they're going to make those characters vivid and unique, budget be damned
I met Bradley Steven Perry a few years ago by accident. I was watching a play and I realized he was sitting in front of me. He was in the lobby afterwards and when I found an opening I told him that I really liked him in Good Luck Charlie. He said "wow thanks, people haven't recognized me in awhile". Then I said I also liked Mighty Med and he said "WOW, absolutely NO ONE remembers me from THAT", hahaha. I did not have Disney Channel But For Boys in my cable package. I don't know where I watched this show but I remember liking it more than Lab Rats, another show I've seen a few episodes of somehow. Didn't realize Skylar Storm was a bad actress back then either but I was also in denial about being gay. she was my favorite character because ~she's so pretty~. A few times in this video I was thinking about how pretty she was and then it hit me that that's the only reason why I liked her as a kid. Oh, silly me......
I’d say that it’s not that Skylor Storm has a bad actress, it’s just that she’s not given a lot of good material to work with because Skylor is a considerably underdeveloped character compared to the others.
Fun facts about some of the actors: The twins who played Wallace and Clyde, along with the guy who played the fake Dreadlock (Bob?) were all in better call Saul. Dreadlocks assistant played the video store clerk who Mike and Lalo asked to see store footage from. And the twins were… you know. Twins.
You have GOT to do another one of these. They do seem like a ton of work so I don't blame you if you won't do one for a while, but this video and the Lab Rats video are literally legendary. Some of the most binge-able content ever on RUclips
Fun fact: Horace’s resurrection power chant “Thanatoi bios bioi thanatos” translates from Greek to “Deaths life lives death.” Thought that was interesting
Amongst these recaps and mixed theories, I’m definitely thinking something similar was being set up. The idea that Kaz and Oliver’s powers would only work when they were together, and that possibly leading them to inherit the dyad and catastrophe’s powers to eventually fight Bridget. Of course we got Elite Force instead.
Maybe this would've been a plot point in season 3 where they try to use Wallace and Clyde to defeat Bridget, although they destroyed the amulet so that would be unlikely

I agree with you on Mighty Med side characters vs Lab Rats side characters. Lab Rats side character problems are especially noticeable during the Bionic Island period when there should be a fixed number of bionic students(excluding the few times a student joining/leaving is part of the story) but named characters just disappear without explanation. In the Lab Rats finale they claim all the students are in the room in Giselle's lab, yet Spin, S1/Taylor, etc. aren't seen, it's just the Davenport kids, Bob and then unnamed extras. This can be contrasted to the Mighty Med finale where a lot of the wedding guests are named superhero we've seen in the hospital before, and the few notable absences like Techton can be handwaved as wasn't invited/busy.
the jokes that kaz makes about his english teacher’s wedding after answering the question about great expectations is actually kind of a great expectations joke too. like miss havisham, the teacher’s fiancé breaks off the engagement/wedding and turns out to be a criminal who wants to take her money/family name
I love when shows do this, especially when they actually understand the source material. Still mad at Girl Meets World for just making up a new plot for Sense and Sensibility. It’s about two sisters falling in love with different guys, not two best friends falling for the same guy, and there’s no friend who knows about everything and is driven insane. You can’t just decide that you want your story to parallel a classic over halfway through the show. These things need to be planned ahead of time, and you can’t just make up your own plot for an existing book. This was completely off topic, I’ve just been holding in a lot of resentment for this for years. Sorry.
Here's a thought that has been in my brain since i first saw the pilot in 2013. Skylar explains that the annihilater stole her powers, bike, and her CLOTHES. Are we just going to ignore the fact that after he defeated this woman and rendered her completely defenseless, he also stripped her half naked... like dude, uncool
Caz and Oliver stick together because they're Heterosexual Life Partners™. A trope where two dudes are *definitely not married* but they're giving cranky married couple vibes nonetheless.
Elite Force as a whole should have been saved for when Mighty Med got to have a true ending that tied up all loose ends. I cannot begin to tell you how lost I was during the premiere of Elite Force when I found out Kaz and Oliver had powers, Oliver's mom was a super villain, and that Mighty Med had been destroyed and all the heroes were dead. It didn't help that I completely missed the series finale, but still. The whole thing sounded like the setup for a dystopian future storyline or movie. I would have honestly preferred that. Still, can you imagine if Disney had the balls to end a show on such a negative note, with the characters being surrounded by so much death and destruction just to provide a credible setup for a new show? They could have aired the Lab Rats finale again right before this dark Mighty Med finale to perfectly tie the two together. They could have made it so that Davenport was there to help the survivors at Mighty Med, which is what led to him pitching the idea of the Elite Force to Kaz, Oliver, and Skylar. As for how he was in the right place at the right time, they could have made it so that Davenport developed an obsession with learning as much as possible about superheroes and super villains after the Lab Rats vs. Mighty Med crossover, which led to him finding Mighty Med and keeping tabs on it. Elite Force is just another prime example of a story that was poorly executed due to executive meddling. Did we absolutely need this show to be brought into the world? Hell no. Did it deserve to be handled better and given a proper chance to do right by the two shows it was spawned from? Hell yeah.
Once upon a time, Elite Force was intended to be the continuation of Mighty Med’s incomplete story while also taking advantage of the Lab Rats’ characters (who’s own stories were being concluded for good). Trying to take advantage of the popularity of the crossover. It of course ended up a train wreck.
@@kevinong9471 Yeah. If they never intended to give Mighty Med a final season to wrap everything up, then they could have and should have picked up the story in Elite Force by having the Lab Rats help Kaz, Oliver, and Skylar track down Oliver's mom.

As a person with ADHD, I loved Skylar and her themes with disability and how she worked around it. Kind of sad that she got her powers back, and that she was reduced to a “All I want is my powers back” but when she was put into a school situation I loved her “fish out of water” act. A lot of her habits remind me of autism/adhd, which as a little kid in a small town with no one to relate gave me some relief… I learned to “Work around the system” because “the system” never worked for me. Skylar learned the same thing, “the system” being the fact that you have to have powers to be a superhero, and she survives nonetheless… Skylar was a cool anchor that I kinda needed after being bullied for my “otherness”. It’s sad to me that she’s seen as having no character just for being a little awkward in a status quo that no longer fits her.
For what it's worth, I really liked Skyler. I think sometimes the show didn't know what to do with her, but she worked the best when she was a fish out of water trying to live and excel in a world not really made for her, like you said. I also wasn't the biggest fan of the frequent ragging on Skyler/Paris in this video (though of course Keyan is entitled to his own opinion and most of it was in good fun).
I'm not mad about many things, but the way that Mighty Med got butchered at the end will probably make me mad for the rest of my life. Growing up I was a huge fan of Mighty Med, following it from the very first episode release all the way to the end. When I found out about the spin-off I was skeptical but optimistic, since even though I've never watched Lab Rats I knew it was popular. Seeing in the first few minutes retcon all the character development, killing off beloved characters, and solving the plot off-screen made me so disgusted, but I tried to struggle until the end of the episode anyway. When I wasn't amused and found out that none of the writers for Mighty Med worked on the spin-off, I was livid. They basically stole characters from another show and try to puppeteer them with writers who do not understand them. Even at that age I could tell that this decision was made from charts, not from hearts. I did not watch the show, and from what I heard it flopped, which is a terrible official end to Mighty Med. I am glad many years later to see the occasional RUclipsr talk about Mighty Med though. Made me feel vindicated in this opinion I've held for a decade. (Also I can't believe I watched this entire video from beginning to end, I did not realize it was over 3 hours long until it was over.)
Fun fact: when I rewatched Mighty Med on Disney+ when Disney+ just came out I was going somewhere with my grandparents and I slept in the car. I had a very vivid dream about being in the show Mighty Med and interacting with the characters. I don’t really remember the dream because it was a long time ago but I remember feeling overwhelmed and confused when I woke up. It was the first and last time I’ve ever had a dream about a tv show.
45:30 Kaz actually doesn't know odds. Odds are expressed in a way that shows the potential winnings for any given stake. For instance, odds of 3:1 meant that you would win 3 units for every 1 unit staked. Odds are on different incremental scales. For percentage, 100% chance equals certainty, while 0% chance equals no possibility. Thus 3:1 odds are actually 75%, therefore Kaz doesn't know odds.
I found this show a couple years ago going through Dis+ after right after I found Lab Rats, and I am thoroughly convinced there is an invisible background plot of Gus coming to terms with having superpowers while trying to hide his desire to be good from his supervillain parents. On my second watch I took a note every time I noticed him say something that made no sense, here's most of the good ones (I don't remember all the context sorry): - Friend with dolphin shape shifters (s1:e20) - Trapped in monopoly game once (s1:e20) - Magic mayonnaise (?) - Rich parent(s)/ dad bought domain (turns into Chinese restaurant) (1:23) - Ran for mayor: 230'000 votes (1:23) - Says "Would you rather shoot down evil tomatoes and throw javelins made of corn or jump over barrels of radioactive waste while fighting a giant hamster robot?" (1:24) - Finds pandorian. (1:24) - Compulsive Spanish speaking (1:24) - Runs bouncathons and marathons - Ate toy (1:26) - hot-air balloon race (1:26) - "doing nothing runs in my family" 1:27 - Wants lemur but mother says they shed - Close friends with alan - Uncle is inventor of extremely large things that are usually much smaller 2:5 - Pet dormbot's from Kaldera (skylor's planet) look and sound exactly like him - Wears fake glasses but can't see anything in 2:7 - Can climb PE robe no problem 2:11 - dressed like santa one time. 2:11 - Figured out oliver was having alien babies. Acted oddly heroically - Can't bend ring and middle fingers 2:12 - Uncle steve and aunt rebecca talk like robots 2:15 - Carries around detector detectors. 2:16 - Eats toenails 2:16 - Grandmother thinks she's a 'thalid' (salad) 2:19 - Claims to bring entire locker home every night so he doesn't forget anything inside 2:20. - reburied arcturian to "help refill ditch" with dirt stolen from neighbors pool-in-progress. 2:20 - Buried villain megahertz alive. 2:20 - Took backpack with arcturian 'by accident'. 2:20 - Has pet bobcat 2:20 - Knows how to break into locked phones 2:21 - calls kaz "backpack twin" 'cause they have the same backpack. 2:21 - Needs parmesan cheese to help unlock phone. 2:21 - "mort" is always the first password he tries. 2:21 - Took him half an hour to get to comic book shop said he "was running for the past half hour." Claimed it was on a treadmill, but the arcturian hunters showed up right after he left when he had it in his pack. 2:21 - Calls mother evil (because he had to walk his own giraffe when frederick was out sick). 2:21 - Is licensed wedding official, mortician, and plumber despite being 14. 2:21 - thinks officiating a wedding means wearing a referee outfit but also officiates pee-wee football games. 2:21
Look i don't want to laugh at that, but Alan's voice actor trying to commit murder and being into nfts is hilarious and fitting, kinda the same reaction i had when I learned that Eddie's voice actor in lab rats was considered "controversial" by a random "where are they now" video of lab rats
@@channeleditor9335 yeah i don't remember that being mentioned anywhere else, but when that random video considered him controversial i nearly shat myself of laughter
it was so insane and just like no pauses between what happens in alan’s “where are they now” section it was comedic. i feel bad because it was a super serious thing but i was laughing from how insane it was out of context
Every time the Lab Rats theme plays it triggers a visceral reaction in me due to how many times I heard it in the Lab Rats video I hope you’re proud of yourself.
Sitcoms are really only entertaining when they are absolutely ludicrous in the best possible way. Mighty Med definitely fits that bill, and that's probably why I loved it so much when I was younger.
I love that someone is talking about Mighty Med. Loved it and Lab Rats. Did not like Elite Force though. It was a weird teen drama and Oliver was never the same. It's like the trauma of fighting his mother and the epic ending that gave them powers traumatized him and changed his personality completely.
Elite force: I'm making an unstoppable team if heros and bionic heros People: so why did you pick the worst parts of both sides. Even if you didn't all the other heros are dead, what makes you think the guys who did it can't do the same to less experienced fighters?
The Lab Rats Elote Force idea was great. But it was poorly executed. First off, as Keyan pointed out, the Mighty Med people had almost no control, which was mistake number one. Because of this, Oliver went from essencially a teen genius with a crush to an obsessed idiot. If the Mighty Med people were involved, There would be a bit more balance between the Lab rats element of the show and the Mighty Med elements.
For real what would have been a great idea is have Oliver mom be the main villain, have her destroy the hospital and have the elite force face her. Simple
@@galarthenry1450 It would be perfect. Besides, this would present a lot of comedy opportunities. Like Horace and the superheroes training the boys. Or like a episode where Oliver tries to find a place to crash because he can no longer go home. It would give us a decent conclusion, maybe with Oliver and Skylar getting together after Skylar helps Oliver deal with everything that has happened.
I recently took a class with Auguie Issac. I was also a HUGE fan of Mighty Med when I was a kid. It was litterally one of my favorite shows of all time. And I also had just gotten through rewatching it as an adult and I show up to class and there he was. He was a nice guy but I was way to nervous to ask actually ask about the show 😅
I still remember some of my favorite jokes, like how Kaz can only draw umbrellas, Horace loving bridges, the "lettering, laddering, loitering, littering" bit, the part where Alan tries to fit in at school and 'researched' by watching musicals, and then Gus leads a dance number, the magnetic potato chip. Man I loved this show.
When you are watching this retrospective and you realize you know one of the actors in Mighty Med....namely Megahertz (James Ryen) who is performing in a theater production I am working on right now (I am a production assistant, so I am backstage). It was just a funny moment of going James? Then jumping on IMDB and seeing, yup, James was on Mighty Med. Dude hasn't aged a day, I swear.
In S1 Ep8, a running gag occurs of using random things that Oliver likes to measure the weight of things. In the final battle, Oliver says “this weighs like 6000 trading cards”. He uses this to describe a spear that he could barely hold. A trading card weighs about 0.75 grams. If we translate this to pounds it shows that Oliver is almost to weak to the point he showed restrain in holding a 10 pound object. That is hilarious when you think about all the other things he’s done.
I was pretty sad to find out Mighty Med just didn't get a season 3. We had the cliffhanger of Oliver's mom flying off with her new superpowers and then we jump to Lab Rats: Elite Force, where apparently all this stuff had happened that resulted in them getting powers but we never properly see any of it.
2:02:20 honestly I think they argue so much because they spend so much time with each other. Like school and a medical job and after school activities? They’re spending at least 15 hours a day. I think we all learned from quarantine that we need to diversify who we spend time with (please don’t spend all your time with your SO. It’s tempting but don’t). Compared to other shows, they do have more opportunities for social interaction besides the two of them. Also Oliver’s thing about thinking of ways to make Kaz happy gave “I have a crush on Kaz” vibes. Oliver is supposed to have a crush on Skylar but I guess he got something for Kaz too. But yeah the show would probably be boring without fights. Tbh I never see my guy friends fight with each other unless it’s like “is water wet” or something. Some of the arguments in the show were played for laughs like Kaz’s pony thing and not meant to be serious so I mentally don’t count that. Idk I have stupid arguments about mundane things and leaps of logic for the sake of comedy to turn an argument into a discussion. But imo Oliver seems a little too invested. Def needs to break off.
I dont think oliver has something for Kaz in the slightest, I think he just holds onto his relationships harder due to his awkward nature and is trying to please his bestfriend because Kaz was pretty much the one guy Oliver frequently talked to before the whole finding mighty med thing
@@somethinssketchy2117 Oliver also thinks Kaz is cool so he probably has a bit of an inferiority complex keeping him from feeling like he can make better friends with similar interests. I can see the crush interpretation but regardless I think he likes Skylar more. Oliver 100% that guy that ditches his friends for his gf.
@@yukikanegawa7470 lol the worst guy is the guy that ditches friends for an SO (yes I have friends like that. Cri) But I just brought up that line as “vibes he has a crush” didn’t mean it to say he does. With their dynamic I can totally see Oliver having an inferiority complex with Kaz. Kaz does feel like the “less nerdy” one of the two. Oliver did introduce Kaz to comics. And when you feel inferior or insecure, you do tend to bring in more negative vibes which can lead to more fights (def the case with me).
Yeah, from what I remember, most of their argument weren't that bad, besides the serious fights, they were actually more like "bestie" moments as I like to call them. My favorite would be the fact that Kaz's nickname for Oliver is "Ollie-pop" which Oliver absolutely loves
One last piece of trivia - Lab Rats and Mighty Med technically connected unofficialy before the crossover. On a day of an actual lunar eclipse, all the shows at the time (Kickin It, Lab Rats, and Mighty Med) all had lunar eclipse based episodes. Disney sitcoms have done those unofficial not really connected but superficial crossovers before.
Kickih’ It, Pair of Kings, and Zeke & Luther did the same thing with a heat wave back in 2011. And regular Disney Channel did one in 2007 with a shooting star.
@@TheTekkenguy Wish Gone Amiss, Hannah Montana, Suite Life of Zack and Cody, and Cory in the House, all had episodes where the protagonists wished on a star and it came true, but not as they wanted.
Ok, now I imagine a Lab Rats, Mighty Med and Kickin' It crossover a la That's So Suite Life of Hannah Montana/Wizards on Deck with Hannah Montana. I called it: MIGHTY BIONIC WARRIORS (I first though of Mighty Kickin' It Rats, but it sound stupid) and the three episodes are: Wasabi Bots (Kickin' It), Different Types of Heroes (Mighty Med) and Friend or Foe (Lab Rats).
As someone who didn't watch any Disney channel sitcoms (Phineas and Ferb was the only Disney show I watched growing up), these videos are super fascinating. If I had watched Mighty Med at the time, I could really see myself loving the show, especially when it comes to the humour, my favourite gag being Alan saying what
Kaz actually doesn’t know odds at any point in the show- odds are given in a ratio, not a percent. I’m glad I was able to help you enjoy the show again.
This show was clearly made by people who love comic books and comic book movies. And it shows even in the smaller details. For example, 1:22:01 The assistant's name, "Bob", is a refrence to the Batman (1989) movie, where Joker's main henchman was also names Bob. He even got his own action figure, seriously
It's honestly really amazing and validating to hear such a positive review of Mighty Med. A lot of the comedy stuck with me to the point where I reference jokes from the show semi-often, but I always feared that it was just another bad Disney TV show that I should feel ashamed for liking. However, this review proved me wrong and shed light on aspects of the show that I had neither noticed or appreciated before. Thank you for that. 20/10. Can't wait for the Lab Rats: Elite Force retrospective!
I would say the show definitely had a lot of people paying attention to it at the beginning. When it came out I moved to a new town and like half of my grade was wearing the “Saving the people who save the people “ tv shirt
That's awesome! I remember thinking the ads on the website alone before the show was released were absolutely amazing. And I don't think I even had think I had cable at that point.
@@TheTekkenguy I looked around online and saw they didn’t have the shirt listed. I think it was a promotional item due to it having the premiere date on the back

LOL couldn't they have gotten a stunt double though since it's 80% acting 20% flips
At least she’s a good actor

@@mrxlr1369 I think Skylar Storm predates Chavez
Edit: actually they seem almost contemporaneous.

And fight or flight doesn’t work that way, your reaction is to do what you feel is the best way to survive. You don’t either “fight” or “flight” by default, your brain subconsciously choices how to get out of a situation as quickly and easily as possible. If it sees no route of escape, then it fights. I think the reason Lab Rats has less specific characters, is because that show is focused on one specific family. Its the Davenport's story. While Mighty Med is focused on a superhero hospital along with the main characters, so more characters are needed.
I mean, not really? By the last season of Lab Rats the family aspect is pretty much gone with Davenport, his brother, and Tasha barely showing up

The only thing I have against this show is that the Keykeeper's enemy wasn't lock-themed. The Locksmith was RIGHT THERE
Something I'm surprised nobody else has realized is, Caduceo is clearly supposed to be this super legendary hero healer.
It could be that Horace has any number of powers we just haven't been told about
Like the original series Dr Who lore - he can only regenerate 12 times, because it takes so much energy, but that doesn't stop him being able to ... use his mind-meld powers, for example.

The lab rats writers mostly wrote the crossover

Neither Kaz, Oliver, or Skylar ever brought up the destruction of the hospital or their feelings about the sudden death of all the hospital residents.
I could be a little off with what Thanatos does, but that'd still be cool.
I noticed that too! turns out "thantos" is also just the greek word for "death." I believe another comment said that his full incantation was "death lives life dead" or something like that. cool stuff.
And his name and symbol are both based on a greek god
his superhero name is also Caduceo the name of staff of the greek god Hermes which is often (improperly, his staff and that of the actual greek god of medicine, Asclepius look incredibly similar - Hermes has two snakes where Aclepius has one - and have been essentially fused into one symbol for both medicine and Hermes) used as a symbol for medicine related stuff (hospitals, pharmacies, etc.)

I imagine the more powerful superheroes were making sure no villains could ruin Horace’s big day

@@andrewgarrett1356 tbf, i only watched lab rats when it came out. mighty med, i only knew vaguely, and elite force i dont even know if i knew about. however, i think in the hands of who it was, it wouldve been bad anyway. im thinking of binging all three shows and seeing if theyre viable, but honestly i think the lore is cool. with better writing, elite force could be awesome. i think it wouldve been a great opportunity to finally close out the lore that they established in the mighty med finale. but they just made oliver really creepy. he had a childish crush on skylar, not whatever keyan showed in the elite force video, which was just... ugh. my idea is for elite force is to rewrite both mighty med and lab rats, remove the plot holes, and make their lores fit together with a bit more foresight (like the graham thing, in which he says superheroes and the supernatural dont exist). my idea for elite force is literally just... keep the setting relatively similar, and finally finish mighty meds story but with chase and bree. hopefully by that point theyre both more likeable in my version
Honestly, that’s such a cool take and it made me remember why I loved her so much, even if the show didn’t always know what to do with her
Wow
Yea it’s kinda sad how they decide not to use her
I’ve decided it’s canon that Skylar has ADHD because I said so and I totally have that authority.
Thus 3:1 odds are actually 75%, therefore
Kaz doesn't know odds.

I found this show a couple years ago going through Dis+ after right after I found Lab Rats, and I am thoroughly convinced there is an invisible background plot of Gus coming to terms with having superpowers while trying to hide his desire to be good from his supervillain parents.
On my second watch I took a note every time I noticed him say something that made no sense, here's most of the good ones (I don't remember all the context sorry):
- Friend with dolphin shape shifters (s1:e20)
- Trapped in monopoly game once (s1:e20)
- Magic mayonnaise (?)
- Rich parent(s)/ dad bought domain (turns into Chinese restaurant) (1:23)
- Ran for mayor: 230'000 votes (1:23)
- Says "Would you rather shoot down evil tomatoes and throw javelins made of corn or jump over barrels of radioactive waste while fighting a giant hamster robot?" (1:24)
- Finds pandorian. (1:24)
- Compulsive Spanish speaking (1:24)
- Runs bouncathons and marathons
- Ate toy (1:26)
- hot-air balloon race (1:26)
- "doing nothing runs in my family" 1:27
- Wants lemur but mother says they shed
- Close friends with alan
- Uncle is inventor of extremely large things that are usually much smaller 2:5
- Pet dormbot's from Kaldera (skylor's planet) look and sound exactly like him
- Wears fake glasses but can't see anything in 2:7
- Can climb PE robe no problem 2:11
- dressed like santa one time. 2:11
- Figured out oliver was having alien babies. Acted oddly heroically
- Can't bend ring and middle fingers 2:12
- Uncle steve and aunt rebecca talk like robots 2:15
- Carries around detector detectors. 2:16
- Eats toenails 2:16
- Grandmother thinks she's a 'thalid' (salad) 2:19
- Claims to bring entire locker home every night so he doesn't forget anything inside 2:20.
- reburied arcturian to "help refill ditch" with dirt stolen from neighbors pool-in-progress. 2:20
- Buried villain megahertz alive. 2:20
- Took backpack with arcturian 'by accident'. 2:20
- Has pet bobcat 2:20
- Knows how to break into locked phones 2:21
- calls kaz "backpack twin" 'cause they have the same backpack. 2:21
- Needs parmesan cheese to help unlock phone. 2:21
- "mort" is always the first password he tries. 2:21
- Took him half an hour to get to comic book shop said he "was running for the past half hour." Claimed it was on a treadmill, but the arcturian hunters showed up right after he left when he had it in his pack. 2:21
- Calls mother evil (because he had to walk his own giraffe when frederick was out sick). 2:21
- Is licensed wedding official, mortician, and plumber despite being 14. 2:21
- thinks officiating a wedding means wearing a referee outfit but also officiates pee-wee football games. 2:21
Honestly Gus was low key the cutest boy on the show next to Oliver and Kaz actually all cast members are really cute.
I think he’s just really rich
That's insane
alan's actor is the perfect example of method acting.
he's so good at it he's still doing it even with the show being over
Its sad that Mighty Med never got a chance to have a proper movie like Wizards did they could’ve done so much with the production value of a movie
Look i don't want to laugh at that, but Alan's voice actor trying to commit murder and being into nfts is hilarious and fitting, kinda the same reaction i had when I learned that Eddie's voice actor in lab rats was considered "controversial" by a random "where are they now" video of lab rats
Oh no what did Will Forte do. You sure you got the right dude because his Wikipedia didn't say anything, neither did the 3 hour lab rats video.
@@channeleditor9335 yeah i don't remember that being mentioned anywhere else, but when that random video considered him controversial i nearly shat myself of laughter
@TheGlassesPro what jokes in particular?
Alan’s actor said he was acting in self defense, though I’m not going to get into whether or not he was lying.
it was so insane and just like no pauses between what happens in alan’s “where are they now” section it was comedic. i feel bad because it was a super serious thing but i was laughing from how insane it was out of context

Elite force: I'm making an unstoppable team if heros and bionic heros
People: so why did you pick the worst parts of both sides. Even if you didn't all the other heros are dead, what makes you think the guys who did it can't do the same to less experienced fighters?
Elite force took one bit out of olivers charachter and made it his whole charachter. That is being skyler obsessed
They pretty much made his crush on skylar his defining trait and cranked it up to 11
For real what would have been a great idea is have Oliver mom be the main villain, have her destroy the hospital and have the elite force face her.
Some committed fan like Keyan or someone like that should do a rewrite/fanfic of Lab Rats: Elite Force how it should’ve been
@@DangerFan_1 Maybe some of us could do it.
So funny seeing ant farm art nerd and troubled brother gabe in a show together always loved that fact
It is funny cause they are basically playing the exact same characters at least personality wise!
It essentially is just Gabe and Fletcher

what makes it even better is that they reference Jake Short's time on ANT farm by having Oliver's character have a persona called Quimby Fletcher
Man I loved this show.
alans actor almost went to jail for attempted murder, when he walked off that stage he really took the character with him
When you are watching this retrospective and you realize you know one of the actors in Mighty Med....namely Megahertz (James Ryen) who is performing in a theater production I am working on right now (I am a production assistant, so I am backstage).
Well in the end of the 2 season they hug each other and stared to fly and realize they got some powers from the orb
Cri)
But I just brought up that line as “vibes he has a crush” didn’t mean it to say he does.
@@yukikanegawa7470 tbh I kinda agree, he can be lead around like a sheep sometimes
@@TheTekkenguy Nickelodeon also had a heat wave, though all the schneider shows are connected
“If by good you mean good at spinning in my chair, you tell me” gets me every time
As someone who didn't watch any Disney channel sitcoms (Phineas and Ferb was the only Disney show I watched growing up), these videos are super fascinating. If I had watched Mighty Med at the time, I could really see myself loving the show, especially when it comes to the humour, my favourite gag being Alan saying what
That is your favourite running joke? WHAT
Kaz actually doesn’t know odds at any point in the show- odds are given in a ratio, not a percent.
