Ok so this is just a theory but I think the writers of Mighty Med planned to have Oliver and Cass have combined powers that only worked when they were touching. They touched the relic at the same time while holding each other, their powers activated when they hugged, and in the final scene of Mighty Med they were flying side by side with their arms touching. Kinda disappointed they didn’t go with this since it could’ve made for some interesting moments/ character arcs.

I bet the reason they changed it was so they didn't have to deal with the possible implication of Cass and Oliver dating, since most people with parallel/depend powers are siblings or dating.
It's fine as a series ending, because you don't have to deal with the implications, but in a continued show, you'd probably have to explain how and why Oliver and Cass are ok/not OK with being together, all the time, forever or else they have no powers

It's very clear the writers wanted the audience to LOVE Skylar, but how they shoved her in our faces, glorified her, gave her the undeserved screentime she didn't deserve was so painful. Which sucked cause it actually made me hate Skylar. Like seeing her on screen genuinely made me upset. It was very clear the writers had a favorite character that was so painfully obvious

I might be in the minority here but I feel like Bree trying to give herself more powers was out of character. She's the bionic teen who most resented not being able to have a normal life. She finally has the chance to not be a bionic hero full time, and take the chance to have a life outside of being part of the team like she's wanted to do. If anything I'd expect Chase to be the one who tries to give himself more powers. He's the one who asked Douglas for more abilities to help him be on even footing with Adam, he's one who's powers most influence who he is due to having more passive abilities like super intelligence and super senses.

tbh the most unforgiveable part is how much skylar is BUTCHERED. like i had no horse in the race but seeing how the girls are even STYLED the same is driving me insane. literally they both had such distinct styles (down to skylar preferring flats and even outright SAYING she'd never fight in heels) and the girls are just. somewhat carbon clones of each other with their powers the same, their styles the same, and one shot of them sitting side by side has the same goddamn hairstyle. they took away everything that made skylar unique and interesting. it is insane to see.

They’re both just “generic girls!” but now the one from the failed show gets to be put at the bottom of the totem poll and made fun of. It’s genuinely kind of gross the way they treat the two as afterthoughts.
Like they could’ve made Oliver becoming creepy towards Skylar be interesting by having her use her proactive personality call him out and take no shit from him but it’s like the writers didn’t even consider how she’d respond. So instead of it being a character interaction it just becomes a thing that happens every episode for no reason.

Then she makes it her mission to destroy them along with superheroes. So now Adam, Bree, and Chase have to work with Kaz and Oliver. that million dollar freshman segment really put things into perspective. the reason why bree was never a character was because she was never MEANT to be a character. think of the thematic harmony of “adam and brad”. two brothers, a and b, one super strong but dumb the other super smart but physically weak. this two person dynamic doesn’t really have room for another person in any way shape or form, but instead of thinking about it they just shoved a girl shaped non-character in between them

    • @0average_enjoyer044
      @0average_enjoyer044 Год назад +84

now here’s the thing, there are 2 hypothetical ways they could’ve filled that hole but neither of them would’ve worked for a number of reasons.
the first thing you have to consider is that these two aspects (strong and smart) ARE actually a part of a triad. that triad being “body, mind, and soul”, the three aspects that classical philosophers believed made up the human existence. now there are 2 ways they could’ve hypothetically included “soul” but really neither of them would’ve worked in any way
      a) let’s call our hypothetical 3rd million dollar freshman “cassandra” and let’s say her soul related power is that she can see ghosts. you can already see why this wouldn’t work right? if not i’ll tell you. it’s because if she can see ghosts, the story immediately stops being about super powered robo-teens living with their new step brother and immediately becomes “wait a minute, this teenage robot can see ghosts!”. not only is it convoluted and too high concept, it also means that to justify cassandra’s existence, you would need to have every episode with her involve ghosts and to be honest, i don’t trust disney to make “bleach but with robot teenagers”, let alone would i trust them to make normal bleach
      b) now this is the interesting one in that it could work, but it absolutely wouldn’t. if you remember the last comment, you’ll remember that adam and brad both had powers and lacked what their other brother had (adam was strong and dumb, brad was smart and weak). therefore, it would only make sense that this 3rd child, cassandra, also lacks something related to her strength. now let’s also consider that another way of looking at the “aspect of soul” is as a person’s emotions and memories. therefore, the only way for cassandra to really make sense would be if she was a robot with the power to control emotions, *but the inability to feel them*. have you figured out the issue yet? if not, i’ll tell you. that character that i just created would be the kids show version of JOHAN LIEBERT FROM MONSTER. aka, one of the most evil villains in any piece of media. a character being born with great power (especially emotionally manipulative power) and no emotions is a one-way ticket to making them an insanely powerful and evil supervillain. the only way for cassandra to work in this case would be if she was introduced as a villain and then given a lengthy redemption arc where she learned what it meant to be human, which would both be amazing peak fiction potentially, and also WAY ABOVE DISNEY CHANNEL’S PAY GRADE. there is no feasible way lab rats or ANY show on the disney channel could’ve made an psychological anime-ass character like that work in any meaningful way without completely butchering it
so yeah… they should’ve just kept it as adam and brad

I wonder if instead of adding in a third sibling for the “girl” character, they could’ve just had the character in Leo’s place be a girl. It would make for an interesting dynamic to have an all-girl and all-boy household combine, plus a tomboyish black female lead would be a protagonist type that I haven’t really seen in Disney up to this point. Only thing is that then we wouldn’t have gotten Tyrel Jackson Williams’s performance.

@@0average_enjoyer044i think soul can be added in more ways: reading minds, telepathy, maybe even mind or memory control, time powers like seeing into the future or even time travel etc etc the real question is what „soul“ would mean in character interactions: usually the strong but dumb and smart but weak characters have a dynamic where conflicts arise often. They are two extremes, the thirst party in those stories is usually a mediator. Aka someone who brings them all on the same level and who has to sort the other two‘s shenanigans out. Now that issue is: that’s a role usually filled by the main character or clear leader of the group, but Leo already fills that characterization. He might not act as a leader but he‘s the one bringing balance between the siblings because compared to the others he is more grounded in reality due to him not being (as) bionic. But that makes Bree entirely obsolete in the dynamic.

“ W E ARE YOUR FAMILY THATS ALL THAT MATTERS NOW LETS KEEP EFFING AROUND MAKING STUPID BETS ABOUT WHO’S MOST IMPORTANT ON THE TEAM 😄😄😄 ”

@@cjaymeme It’s a shame the MM characters were massively flanderised for it. The hospital setting allowed Katz to shine in his brilliant but lazy characterisation, and Oliver was more than just someone with a crush. A more long term attempt at integrating the worlds of bionic people and superheroes has potential, like trying to translate superpowers into bionic abilities or augmenting superpowered people to overcome a weakness or inherent biological flaw, but the powers, super and bionic, seem to be treated with far less consistency and respect by the people making the show. The stuff Donald invents wouldn’t be out of place at Mighty Med and seeing him interact with Horace would be hugely fun, and other character crossovers similar entertainment potential.

@@TheDawnofVanlife There wasn’t a need to kill off the Mighty Med side, Kaz and Oliver could have been at Davenport’s tower as part of a collaboration with Davenport and Horace, to tackle the Mr Terror threat from both superpowered and bionic angles. The Rats were designed to do what no one else could in rescue missions, and a supervillainess would end up creating these kinds of crises if only from collateral damage. That’s how the team up starts. Oliver, Kaz and Horace know the Arcturion (the teens having been empowered by it) and can provide hands on help for Davenport to understand it while the remaining Rats and Skyler train the two new heroes. Of course this would require the show’s producers to have a basic familiarity with the Mighty Med show, so of course it’s not an option. From only the title, it becomes pretty clear what this is, just another bionic island. The higher-ups noticed that "epic" stories with keystone episodes garnered a lot more interest than the school episodes so they got rid of all of that and just made the series about what was more popular. However, that took away the charm from the story (like if Spider-Man just was about a masked hero rather than the aspect of juggling his life) and meant that we kind of got repeating storylines with Crane and other generic villains. Don't get me wrong, Lab Rats always had very few supporting characters since anyone outside the main cast (except like Caitlin, Perry, and Janelle) never got any lines, which meant that we never really got attached to anyone else. This meant that changing locations wasn't really an issue since no one really cared about anything outside the leads, and that we didn't really lose anything in the switch.
My main theory is that the creators of Lab Rats just assumed that Mighty Med was the same and that the viewers only cared about the teen leads, however, that series took it's time to build it's (albeit campy) world and a supporting cast of reaccuring characters. This meant that they thought we'd feel nothing when they killed Horrace, Alan, Philip and all of the others off-screen, but that really wasn't the case. The fact that they just offed the entire world and every single concept within it for a generic avengers rip-off is really disappointing, because it always seemed like MM was made with effort and care. Us getting no reference to the series with even worldbuilding terms like normos being disregarded speaks to them only reading the premise of MM, rewatching the crossover and then just taking the characters to combine the fanbases and get more viewers. Oliver, Skyler, and Caz feeling like caricatures of themselves also speaks to this.
It's just another season of Lab Rats, there was no real reason to combine the two shows, the crossover is just a trick to get more viewers. They could replace the MM characters with Adam and Leo, and nothing would be different. We'd have literally the same end product, which makes the fact that the entire MM world had to be destroyed for this all the sadder. I don't really care about any of these shows and I wasn't that into them even as a kid, but I still feel sad that the MM writers (who made a legitimately good kids show with care and attention) had it taken away and bastardized for 12 episodes of terribleness (the worst fate imaginable for a writer attached to their product).
Holy shit, I just wrote an essay on a show that I watched once and haven't thought about in year, where I glorified a show that I thought was mediocre (Lab Rats, the first 3 seasons, BI is trash) and a show that I thought was above average (MM). Great video, keep up the good work!!

I mean, think about it. His mother is the most hated, most terrifying, most powerful villain in the MM universe. She's basically the King/Queen of Villains! Making Oliver technically the Prince.
And then he gets accepted to join a hero group to save the world from people like her.
If I was Oliver I'd be hesitant to join because I wouldn't think I wasn't worthy.
Oliver is a very empathic and kind kid, to anyone else this probably wouldn't be seen as a problem but Oliver would care.
I could even see Kaz and Skylar being kinda overprotective over him because of this because they care so much for him they don't want him to be hurt again.
Hell, I can see Bree and Chase kinda relating to Oliver because they too thought they were created by a villain for a period and know what it's like to be in conflict about their origins.

I love that it’s OBVIOUS the Mighty Med half got shafted. Like you said, the fact that “Mighty Med” somehow got destroyed and nobody’s talking about the absolute war crime that would be blowing up the actual normo hospital is sus for starters. The fact that they ask Kaz and Oliver who did it and they don’t immediately suggest “hey maybe it’s my super evil mom who made a point to say she knew who she was really marrying, and therefore might already know about Mighty Med’s location, and clearly gives so little of a crap about her own family that she seems like the hospital blowing up type now.” To me, setting her up as the big bad and having these two emotionally torn teens work to stop her and whatever evil she sends their way sounds like a great plot. You could build tension between the Lab Rats and the Mighty Med by having the Lab Rats be like “we need to go after her full force and lock her up where nobody will ever find her again” and Kaz and Oliver trying to find a way to rehabilitate her.
I won’t lie, I never watched any of these shows but I was bored partway through the Lab Rats Keyan vid and was in LOVE with the Mighty Med one. To not try and find a way to mix and play with the vibes is an insult.

It’s very interesting, I’m part of the fandom for the Lab Rats/Mighty Med universe, and so I’ve seen a lot of Elite Force rewrites. Interestingly enough, most of them end up being more along the lines of being MM season 3 instead of LB season 5. This mostly includes either A) focusing on how the destruction of MM affected Skylar, Kaz, and Oliver, or B) making Oliver’s mom the main villain. B tends to be the more popular option, and the bionic kids are mostly brought in because for some reason or another, the superheroes can’t deal with Terror, and some even have that MM had to shut down due to Oliver’s mom specifically attacking it, which still gives a reason to be away from MM without blowing it up and off-screen killing an entire supporting cast.
It’s not perfect, but it definitely makes more sense then what they actually did. It also goes without saying, but most of the rewrites also make sure to include that Oliver isn’t a huge creep. Because that was genuinely the worst character assassination I’ve ever seen. Idk, the show was always bound to be very weird, but I think it could’ve actually been something good had they tried more, or at least something interesting and entertaining.

I would honestly just make MM season 3 where they focus on Oliver’s mom and also introduce Rodysseus and show his anger growing over the loss of his powers as a background thing. Like he keeps having checkups to try to regain powers. This way the Oliver’s mom plot is fully Mighty Med while setting up the Rodysseus stuff they didn’t set up before Elite Force. This change would also make Rodysseus a bigger mastermind while his two kids aid him as essentially lackeys. Maybe give him a daughter as well so the main villains feel more expanded plus they could try to match the two guys with the three EF boys and the one girl with the two EF girls.
I don’t think Mighty Med should be destroyed, but maybe Rodysseus offhandedly hears one of the staff presumably Alan saying confidential information which is how Rodysseus either prevents Mighty Med from running and/or aids in him killing or sealing superpowers. The method of sealing superpowers obviously only works on superpowers which is why they decide to team up with the bionics since their powers won’t be affected, but Kaz, Oliver, and Skylar still work with them since they know more about superpowers and the information they need to recover is confidential Mighty Med info. Also they could do paramedic stuff in the case of any superheroes falling victim to Rodysseus.
As for what side characters they should keep I have no clue. I would need to write a plot to think of that

After the scene talking about how Mighty Med was destroyed, it's blatantly obvious they had no respect for the continuity of Mighty Med at all. Not even getting something as simple as the fact that it's location was a secret correct is telling for how much they care about keeping literally anything from it around. It's like the higher ups canceled Mighty Med, and went to the Lab Rats creators and said "you can have one more season IF you combine these two shows so we can market it as a crossover show" and then the creators said yes, but didn't really want to so basically stripped away literally everything about Mighty Med that would cause them to even have to look at a single page with any continuity from it.

I suppose if Gus and Jordan went to Kaz's parents to ask where he was they could tell them about the 'internship' but what about Oliver? My biggest problem with this show is the same I had with Lab Rats. Some of its subject matter (mass superhero genocide for instance) and the ages of most viewers would have worked better with a teen show. Not something mature like Pretty Little Liars or Riverdale, but a narrative that takes itself seriously and characters that mature and grow and face consequences. I think Lab Rats started falling in ratings because as the audience grew up they were ready for the characters to mature and have character arcs, but they stayed frozen mentally despite how the events of the plot should have changed them. Wizards of Waverly Place is well-remembered because-at least in the longer specials-the characters could show growth. They positively changed between the pilot and the finale, while the Lab Rats only regressed.

He went from trying to control the world and kill his family to saving the world and his family after directly experiencing the errors of his ways (Krane). And he earned it too after saving the kids from Krane, fixing Bree's chip and saving Leo. Leo definitely developed a bit as well through Season 3 but by season 4, it felt like it reset. He was already pretty smart given that he figured out Marcus right away. He just grew into that. Everyone else kind of stayed static for the most part.

ever since i watched your lab rats and mighty med videos i have become completely immersed in the ‘lab rats franchise’ fandom, and i COMPLETELY agree with everything you said in this video. i actually watched this on 1.75x because i’ve already watched elite force twice in the past three months (yes i am a masochist) so i think it’s my duty as an elite force scholar to comment.
chase didn’t give the mission leader role to skylar, he gave it up so that any member of the team could step in and lead when the situation calls for it, which i think is a really nice detail.
regarding bree’s turbo leap, i don’t think it was ever mentioned before EF but i’m pretty sure that’s how she was able to get up onto the ceiling in the lab rats ep mission invisible. she does it earlier in the episode too, where she leaps to get past a line at school.
by my count, there is 22 speaking characters, not 18 (i am mentally ill).
i’m almost glad that there were so many plot holes and cliff hangers in elite force because it leaves so much room for fandom interpretation, the past few months i’ve been loving reading and writing fan fics about various ways that the show could have gone. honestly i suggest checking out some of the elite force works on ao3, it’s run of the mill fan fic, but there are some genuinely interesting and fun ideas in there.
also, loved the prom video! keep up the great work man.

I think one of the more interesting ideas that might've come into play for mighty med season 3, is that from the looks of it, Oliver and Kaz's powers only worked when they were together. It would have further shown how good their friendship is compared to other shows, and it could have had episodes paced the same as the other seasons. If Oliver and Kaz aren't together they can still fight villains and stuff the same as the previous episodes. The eventual confrontation of Mr. Terror would've been interesting to watch. I wonder if it would be played out like the Lego movie, where Oliver just reaches for the humanity in her. Seeing Alan's bigger powers come in would've been cool, since he's the son and grandson of Optimo and Hapax.
      Sorry, that was a ramble.

I think Cas, for lack of a better term, is Comic-Book smart. He understands things when connected to comics, but the insane shit that happens in comics (multiverse theory, polyatomic ions, etc) are all rooted in reality but with a little sci-fi twist to them. I think, it makes sense that he understands some things more than he thinks he does and (while displayed dumb in the series) retains things better in a more practical sense. He is good at his job at Mighty Med because of comics and that has developed into real world biology and chemistry. Not on the same level as Chase, no, but enough to build off others to create solutions.
