I often wonder why not many other mid-level documentary RUclips channels do this. Maybe they often decline giving any extra info because of NDA, but honestly it was really cool to see their cameos.
the actor for esteban gave you a really good cameo from what it looks like. dude could have gave you a generic short answer but he elaborated and did the phrase we all love.
Real cause she had to describe which wife she is the daughter of cause he couldn't remember his own child. He dropped her on the boat and just forgot about her
@@calichick097 The fact she has to say which wife means she knows she has half sisters, which naturally never gets explored for her character because this is On Deck. If she was the only child Mr Tipton had, or the only daughter, she’d just say “it’s me, your daughter”, not needing to add which wife is her mother.
On Deck might've been the worst thing to happen to the franchise However the scene "I have a problem... I'm gonna miss you" is still one of the most gutwrenching, beautiful & iconic scenes of the entire franchise. And that is all down to Brenda & Phil's chemistry as daughter/father by choice It still makes me tear up 13 years later
I know London is entirely flanderized and nothing like how she began, but every single clip you show of her she is still hilarious. Brenda Song is so good, damn lol "I care about these poor ugly people" got me, she just delivers the lines so well.
Ironically, I think if Bailey did have the character flaws that Cody made up for her, they would be a much more narratively satisfying couple. Imagine a version of this show where they leaned into Bailey being a tomboyish farm girl. She’s not afraid to get dirty, or to take risks (she snuck on the ship in disguise after all), she’s spontaneous. She gets along with Zack, even, both being impulsive and messy. But she’s also still really smart, still matching Cody for both grades and raw intelligence. This combination of traits would drive Cody absolutely insane. If she was getting good grades while also being fun and cool, and not a neurotic control freak like him? He would not be able to stand it. It would break him. But ultimately it would leave room for them both to grow. Bailey being able to show Cody that he doesn’t have to be so uptight all the time, that he can let loose a little bit without it ending in disaster (unlike when Zack drags him into things). Cody, after years of dealing with Zack, being very good at pulling Bailey back from her more reckless impulses, from taking things too far. They could balance each other out. And at the same time, there would be fodder for actually interesting disagreements and resulting development, rather than pointless fights that don’t make sense and don’t go anywhere. Plus, like. Who doesn’t love a good opposites attract relationship? Just imagine what we could have had, if the writers actually cared about Bailey’s character and writing her as a person and not just Cody’s Girlfriend Who Has A Different Personality Every Episode To Suit The Plot.
I agree it feels like where they started with her but instantly took that away. Like she can be a sweet girl and also a tomboyish girl, which I think would counter him nicely. Barbara is kind of that way too but she’s mean lol.
I swear the writers of these Disney Channel shows know, like. Exactly ONE way to write a "smart" person. So of course the idea of making Bailey rough-and-tumble _and_ a good student never crossed their minds. Which is a shame because you're right, that would've been so much better!
Honestly credit to Dylan for the delivery. People talk about “oh you can’t make sensitive jokes anymore, the big scary woke mobs gonna get u!” But you definitely can make jokes like that when it’s delivered the way Dylan does. It feels obvious to me that he’s playing like an over the top character who’s basically making a mockery of men who would seriously think in that way.
I remember watching suite life and on deck as a child but don't remember Cody being such a psychopath "nice guy" it's crazy going back and seeing how bad on deck was lmao
Well he was supposed to be but I guess it’s one of those cases when a character becomes unintentionally flawed because of bad writing, if the writers realized or cared about his issues they could have used them as a chance to develop his character
A lot of these episodes feel like fanfic AUs. Taking the characters from the franchise and placing them in all sorts of random stories unrelated to the show to see what they'll do.
Somehow Ms. Tuttweiler complaining ad nauseum about her shitty personal life during class and living through her students made her the most realistic character in the series
Probably helps that she and Mosby are the only main adult characters in the show and it's clear that some of them are probably inspired by the writers own experience
guess they really wanted to constantly remind their audience that all Disney Channel sitcoms take place in the same universe. hence the mention of Arturo Vitali in both TSLOD and Jessie.
You want the cynical answer for why Woody was never made a main character? Recurring actors get paid lower rates than Series Regulars. So it was basically an extra way to save money.
Man, I feel bad for Matthew Timmons, as he clearly did carry a lot with his role, and could've had a career in more sitcoms. Heck Woody had more appearances than Marcus did. So it's more logical that he's part of the main cast, instead of recurring. Hopefully Timmons is doing far better outside of Disney. I do find your statement a bit ironic considering how a similar situation, on the show A.N.T. Farm, where Angus's actor Aedin Mincks was placed as a recurring role despite showing up in a good amount of episodes in S1 and 2 of the show. Although surprisingly, things changed in the show's 3rd season where he became part of the Main Cast. But this was probably due to more of the fact that Carlon Jeffrey (Cameron) left the show, and the creators decided to boost Angus's role in the show up more.
The actors Cameos always make me smile from ear to ear. Fills me with so much nostalgia and joy to see them embody their character, even for just a moment.
What I appreciate about these recaps is that it’s not just a retelling of everything that’s happened, but a further look into the harmful stereotypes can be perpetuated from a children’s tv show for certain regions and rather than just assuming that’s so, we get people FROM THE AREAS to explain that things are incorrect (and rarely what is correct) and that makes it much more insightful to me.
Even back in the day I always hated Cody on this show. He is by far the worst character on a Disney Channel show around that time, his character derailment is even worse than Justin Russo. The way his character devolved from the nerdy, sensitive twin who would still be involved with the schemes, to a condescending, whiny, possessive, lovestruck, mean, shallow, misogynistic, entitled (borderline sexist) know it all. Basically, a kid version of Sheldon Cooper from The Big Bang Theory. And it all comes down to his relationship with Bailey, which is one of the most toxic relationships on the Disney Channel, and I don't understand why it is so loved. Actually, not one of, it IS the most toxic Disney Channel couple. Cody was just an unpleased jerkass toward everyone, ESPECIALLY toward London and ironically Bailey. And even Zack at times. The way he'd treat London often insulting her intelligence in a more mean-spirited manner. For one, there's his 6-month plan to win Bailey, which is downright creepy, and how he just simps over her in general. Then once they become a couple, not long after Cody starts to show his misogyny against women
The entire sequence of Cody dealing with Bailey and Jessica made me cringe so hard it caused me physical pain. Thank you SO MUCH for including all that extended unedited footage of that 🙃
There's something about bad TV acting for children that makes me cringe *particularly* hard. Cole's acting triggers this cringe response reliably. You could weaponize this.
@@Noname72105 I mean... Riverdale kinda did. Now was it intentional? Probably not. Did the "I am a weirdo" cringe scene make people talk about the show more? I think so.
i'm floored that the movie's villain's motive was "if i can make twins get along, ANYONE can get along!" like. girl, what? that's basically "if i can make these two people with nearly identical upbringings and very similar (if not the same) genes get along, why can't i make the whole WORLD get along??" bestie that's not how it works, some people have differences they see as irreconcilable, twins are much less likely to have that problem to the same extent. i'm so confused
@@DanielJacobs-rz1zl well, i feel like usually it’s supposed to be more of a moral problem, like “i see your logic but that’s morally reprehensible,” not “that is downright stupid” lol
i had completely forgotten how zack and maya felt like such a breath of fresh air after two seasons of cody and bailey's obnoxious dynamic, which isn't saying much LOL zoey deutch thank you for your service, queen
"In my opinion they ate [Person, Animal, or multiple therof]" Is the only trigger phrase that allows me to say farewell to a character I may or may not have liked. Genuinely, Thanks Keyan! Your goofiness helps me to further connect to this show, despite it's apparent and overt flaws. Excited to see what you do next! 1:43:04
I love how Moesby has had an interest in so many different sports, dancing, mini golf, cycling, croquet, badminton, cheerleading, rollerblading, basketball, competitive hand slapping and who knows what else. He was basically a jock. Also, by my count, Mr. Tipton has been married 19 times, London was the daughter of his 3rd wife, then she ended up with 15 stepmoms, but he also remarried 2 of his ex wives
@@lauracerqueiramachado8979 With other trouble causing twins, accident prone engineers, overenthusiastic bellhops from different mysterious countries I can just imagine that episode, Zack, Cody, London, Moesby & Carrie go to visit another Tipton hotel in a different state, meet their counterparts.
Honestly, the Monte Carlo episode had a great chance to play with the richest country in the world. Imagine if London goes to shop, but learns that for once she can't afford more then a bag of chips. It'd be a fun exageration at its prosperity.
@@uniraffesaur Your comment is extremely interesting to me, because - and I admit I'm assuming your age a bit here - it shows a bit of cultural context lost to time. Mr. Tipton *is* Jeff Bezos, or at least the Bezos of his era. He was Richard Hilton, who at the time the show was made was among the five richest men in the world. So, London's wealth wasn't exaggerated, that was just how massive a $3.5 billion net worth was in 2005.
@@eatatjoes6751 He's not even in the top 1,000. Even you measured the current-day richest men against Richard Hilton's net-worth at his height AND adjusted for inflation, he wouldn't make the top 600 (he'd be in 661st place). Number 6 is actually Warren Buffet, at $145bn.
I know it seemed dramatic to have london's goodbye be that way for mr moseby but as a kid watching that i genuinely sobbed at the phonecall when she said "im gonna miss you" like even though the rest of the series basically forgot about the london - moseby relationship, that felt like a true callback to what the suite life of zack and cody set up for london and moseby and how he was truly a father figure for her.. only for it to be followed with a gag of her mixing zack and cody up for a bit of a giggle. Anyway among the 3 choices you gave, i wld def be up for a pair of kings retrospective although i know once the cast changes.. it drastically plummets in quality 😔
It's weird how they never updated the intro to included Woody in the main cast since he showed up in almost all of the episodes. I mean, even Mighty Med added Gus to the intro. However, I do have to give points for giving Marcus a send-off instead of just dissapering out of nowhere and everyone acts like he never existed.
@@mariajimenafigueroa233 my head canon is they thought woody was too similar to Zack to be in the main cast so he took the role of “the friend” like Bob was in the original series. They struggled to make the other male characters in the show standout personality wise from Zack and Cody so they preferred to have the twins and moseby be the only male characters in the main cast. Marcus was different enough from the twins which is very out there since he’s basically a Hannah Montana character dropped into the suite life franchise
I could be wrong, but I read somewhere that having main cast status comes with some obligations outside of the show, like doing adverts or participating in kids events Disney does. So it's possible the actor didn't want to be part of those, hence not being considered a main character despite the heavy appearances.
I have a thought based on the cast from So Random, where Damien and Shayne (and I almost every new cast member added after Sonny with a chance) were considered guest stars even though they were in almost every single episode (I think they were absent from 3 episodes each) basically it comes down to budget/contracts. It’s really dumb but I think that is why.
I remember feeling SO betrayed as a kid because the marketing for the Zack and Cody movie genuinely made me think that Zack and Cody were gonna cronenberg themselves into one person for at least a few minutes there in the climax, and IMO w/. how much the show has detached itself from reality I still think it was a missed opportunity for some child friendly body-horror mad science shenanigans
would have loved to see which twin they picked to portray the sprouse singularity and whether or not it would have been commented on in the film's dialog :/
I’ve never related to someone more than Keyan just randomly finding ways to bring up Transformers in the middle of a multi hour long discussion about an entirely separate piece of media
I don't get the reasoning behind ditching him when they lost Ashley Tisdale tbh. Just make him work for the ship, like Moseby. That actor really got tossed aside for no good reason.
Watching this also made me realize just how much Jessie shares its DNA with specifically On Deck in terms of tone and characters. Luke is Zach, Emma is London, Ravi is Cody with more racism and less awful, Jessie herself feels like a Bailey the world shits on more, hell an entire episode of Jessie took point for point from On Deck in having someone who hit their head on the boat be convinced they’re a mermaid by the cast. It’s like they really just kept making this show
That was actually one of my ideas for when I pitched a better version of Raven About Bunk’d, which I think is the worst of all the Disney Channel crossovers. Raven and Emma interact talking about fashion and the fact they stayed at different Tipton hotels managed by the same dude! And Raven even comparing the Ross kids to the kids she met at that hotel! Emma to London, Luke to Zack, Ravi to Cody…do Maddie and Zuri have anything in common? Well, they’re both smart alecks who love country music. And I’d love to see Raven make an offhand comment that she went to Hannah’s concert that week! How much better would it have been if they at least made the crossover a season earlier when the Ross siblings were still there and they met the Raven’s Home cast? It would have been a great passing of the torch moment and a love letter to people who grew watching Disney Channel as far back as when That’s So Raven was first advertised. They could’ve even made it right before the season finale where we supposedly say goodbye to the Ross family for good.
@@bunm.8530 Pamela Eells O’Connell actually codeveloped this show and ran as the sole showrunner for season 3. And so much of The Suite Life Saga’s issues carried over into the shows she created which were Jessie and Bunk’d.
dont forget the parents being barely involved in both. With cody and zach's dad being in a rock band and the mom doing a singer job at the tiptin. And the ross' parents being away due to being a director and fashion designer respectively. Jeez how many more is there to find.
It feels to me at least that someone at Disney wanted to make a Marcus spinoff where his career takes off again but instead they grabbed Mitchel Musso off the set of Hannah Montana and said “let’s make Drake and Josh but on an island” and they went from there.
i remember when maya was introduced, there was a plot point about how she was a yankees fan while zack was a red socks guy, and as someone who grew up in boston, this was the first instance i had ever seen of someone liking the yankees. i didn’t even live in a household that cared about sports, and yet i knew the chant “red socks rule, yankees drool.” i had heard the yankees were terrible, and i assumed this meant they never won. i was floored when maya not only liked them, but (if im remembering right) cited an instance where the yankees beat the red socks. this was earth shattering to me. i am not joking, i legitimately believed there were only two baseball teams that mattered, and one of them literally never won. i fucking love boston, what a drug
Once I finish watching this video, I will have watched ~18 hours of Keyan Carlile videos on Zack and Cody, without ever having watched a single episode of it in my life.
I'm honestly disappointed. I had hoped for something more in line with the other depictions of European countries on the show. I wanted all those wonderful dumb misinformed stereotypes.
Honestly same, its literally one of the few episodes I remember and idk if its because it was constantly reran every time I tuned in or that its been burned into my brain cause the Hansel and Gretel segment scared me so much as a kid. Prolly both.
It being set in Germany was probably just the excuse to have two German fables, so it's not really that surprising that some people don't remember that part.
I'll be honest, I forgot if it was a reference to something or just a random gag that you started but the "In my opinion, they ate them" has become one of my favorite running jokes
there's an earlier episode where bailey's pig porkers appears. after that episode, he's never seen again in the show. that's the first time keyan says "in my opinion they ate him"
It started off with Bailey's pig (porkers? i think) which made sense, then got expanded to London's dog, and then it just kept going. The ending bit had me in stitches
can't believe I had to google 'I'm in the band' to find out "British Guy" was the bad guy in the Wizards of Waverly Place movie instead of being told by the disney channel recap guy
Shoutout to the german ambulance cameo! Also, I gotta correct myself: There IS a river near the black forest but no way that a giant and very real cruiseship could fit in there xD Thanks again for having me!💛 Diese Kommentarsektion ist nun Eigentum der BRD :P
The writers missed an opportunity for character work by having London and Woody connect over stepparent dramas, something we saw London go through in a SLoZaC episode where a stepmother did want to be present in her life beyond a charm on a bracelet (the show promptly forgetting she existed though).
Dylan Sprouse said he and Cole wanted to have creative control of the show for a potential 4th season, as well as a pay increase and producer credit. They pitched an idea where Zack and Cody return to the Tipton while the two attend college. They would also become friends/mentors to a boy who lives with his single father in the hotel, showing him all the fun one could have at the Tipton. Once the season ended, the boy and his father would get their own show via a spin-off. Disney vetoed their pitch idea and gave their own idea which, according to Sprouse, was the same as theirs but with a few twists (and did not increase their pay and give credit). The potential show would have involved Zack going to work in Miami with Cody and would've had Selena Gomez attached. There were rumors saying that the executives liked Debby's idea more than the Sprouses' (Which led to Jessie), and the rest is history. Ok i found the spin off thing a bit to risky maybe people would hate kid or not. Again i don’t how true but jessie was going to be baily spin off about she going new york and become the nanny. Again i don’t know how true it is Dylan Sprouse would also comment on this in a 2024 interview, humorously adding that seeing the messages he got about it made him feel old.
Not that anyone asked but I’ll be your input for New Orleans: 1. We DO have a port for cruise ships actually! But it’s on the Mississippi so I highly doubt the water would be that clear. 2. Assuming the port is the one on the Mississippi, boys wouldn’t be able to dive there, it’s hella dangerous. People drown in those waters, I think there’s both an over and under current?? 3. I get why they chose to go with a ghost plot because it’s a bit more family-friendly but I’m honestly surprised they didn’t have a subplot of anyone trying to go to a Mardi Gras parade or a big party or something. On one hand, I’m relieved because I hate the trope of every day here being Mardi Gras instead of an actual holiday-festival-thing. But on the other, it’s not unheard of for there to be big lavish parties or galas; London would probably want to go if only to attend that one restaurant that serves bourbon from when Napoleon was alive or something. Just get them off the boat!!
To me the Suite Life On Deck marks the beginning of the end for live action Disney sitcoms after this. I think that if The original Suite Life series ended without this spin off. The legacy of The Suite Life of Zack & Cody and for the Sprouse Twins would be different.
For me it was after the peak episode. The one where London is accidentally hypnotized to think she's Baily and surprisingly great at the cowgirl lifestyle.
55:51 So, fun fact, Brenda Song and George Takei would end up sharing scenes again 13 years later in the Netflix animated series Blue Eye Samurai. I didn’t recognize Brenda Song’s voice until I saw her name in the credits, and then when I saw their characters sharing scenes together, something just clicked and I realized, “Oh my God, I’ve seen them work together before!” My mind was blown when I put the pieces together!
Woody is a really good example of how making a character a walking "lol fat ppl are smelly and disgusting and only care about food" joke gets very unfunny after 2 minutes. Hits differently when you hear about Matthew Timmons' struggles with depression and body dysmorphia, but at least (according to his insta) he enjoyed playing Woody for the time he was on the show.
Even as a kid I remember thinking something akin to “wow that must be really harsh having all these jokes made about your body, even if you’re playing a character”.
@@GregCubed I've noticed that they don't make straight up digs at Woody's body bc that'd be too on-the-nose, but the general aura of treating Woody like he's abhorrent, disgusting, and unattractive (to the point where a girl showing interest in him is a punch line) gets very... uncomfortable. Zack is another character that has gross-out humour associated with him, but the gags about a character being sloppy and messy are disproportionately relegated to Woody.
It’s a shame too, because I honestly enjoy Matthew’s delivery. It feels like he’s making the most out of a horrendous script and if he had a better character to play he’d rly shine.
Phill Lewis is such a delight to watch, even as an adult. He really elevated this downward spiraling show through sheer force of will. Also, "On Deck"premiered when I was 10 or 11 years old and I only remember watching maybe the first half of season 1. For one, I started to outgrow kids shows at that point and secondly, this was one of my experiences in being critical of the media I consumed, because I noticed how dirt cheap this show looked.
Which somehow turns into a. 20 minute documentary about how one of the cast was literally a criminal or something which means they had to write him out. Technically speaking, it’s a triplet of kings but one is separate.
Fun fact: In the Swedish version of Snakes on a Boat Cody's dialogue about how "6 never gets you in trouble" was changed to 7, presumably because 6 and sex are pronounced the exact same in Swedish. Also spelled the same when not directly just typing out the actual number.
Oh and if those 3 shows briefly shown at the end are actually the only options for next video then I vote for Pair Of Kings, it's absolute dogshit (positive)
You know, in the show “Seinfeld” there is this episode when Jerry dates a deaf woman who can read lips really well and there is this joke when she mistakes the word “six” with “sex”, he took her home and they were planning on going out together again and he asked “what about six?” and it made her feel uncomfortable
I feel like it makes sense that Zacks dream would be a fairytale from a completely different country because he's never liked school and wouldn't bother to remember what stories came from where in Europe.
my family still quotes london’s delivery of voldemort to this day but actually seeing the original clip again so early in the video just gave me flashbacks
this video is hitting me like a TRUCK i totally forgot about kirby and now i’m remembering all of his quips edit: i have now also found a suite life on deck themed page of hangman games in one of my childhood journals that spell out ‘kirby says dang’, ‘bailey is stupid’ and most cryptically ‘marcus is done for’??? lol
Brenda Songs performance is truly remarkable that way. its such goofy material that seems like it should be worthy of nothing but an eyeroll but it always somehow *works*
Moseby and Cody’s cameo in “Jessie” hints the fact that Cody and Bailey didn’t stick together after all, since after meeting Jessie Moseby called Cody to tell him he just met a gal who looked just like Bailey and he said he was going to New York right away to meet her, implying that he and Bailey broke up again and he wasn’t completely over it yet so he liked the idea of meeting her lookalike
god, it's sad to see how this series took such a nose dive compared to the og one and how Dylan and Cole were taken advantage of by the network, but hey good for them for making the call to move on and go to college instead. and of the the options for the next video, I recommend Pair of Kings, watched it a bit when I was younger and it seems like a fun show :3
The best way to describe The Suite Life on Deck is that it’s too much of a good thing. Zack and Cody was a hit for the network so a new show that is just more of it sounds like it’d be a hit. But after writing over 80 episodes I felt like the writing team just struggled more and more thinking of new things to do with these characters. Like On Deck had writers from the original show so I wouldn’t say the drastic changes and selective continuity was just the writers being lazy, more so they just didn’t really know what else to do so just tried to make the plots of episodes crazier and crazier at the cost of the heart the original show had as the characters got flanderized more and more for the sake of jokes. Like there were some good episodes in On Deck and that graduation episode is a great finale to the series as a whole but it doesn’t really save the show from feeling like a downgrade from what came before. Also its okay Keyan not everyone can understand the true comedic genius of I'm in the Band😔
Yeah, as much as I love On Deck for the fun show that it was, sometimes I really wonder where Suite Life could've gone if Disney had taken a risk and let the original show continue with the cast staying at the hotel, eventually taking a BMW-approach where it gets more serious in the later-seasons. We could've had such interesting storylines dealing with finding internships, moving out, Maddie's and London's horrible family-lives being addressed, Carrie and Kurt possibly marrying other people, Barbara's and Cody's relationship (which shouldn't have ended), the college process and college life with Maddie and London, possibly pregnancy, and we could've easily introduced Bailey and have her end up with Zack. There was so much potential. I feel like living on a boat really limited the potential long-term storylines we could've had with the characters, because everything had to be a certain way and everyone had to act a certain way for On Deck to work, and they also pretty much had zero responsibilities on the boat aside from working to pay for food which was the bare minimum, so there was really no room for genuine growth for any of the characters there. This could've been Disney's greatest sitcom if it was handled differently.
Yea that sums it up. I think on the whole I still like on deck and while the flandarization is noticeable it doesn't bother me as much as most. I wouldn't say it ruined the franchise for me. I still call this series a 8.5/10. Still good but the og is still goated for me
This is a touching way of putting it. I didn't have cable television until around 2008/2009, so felt like I was a bit late to every show, but always enjoyed the OG series and feel a sense of "these were the golden years" when i see clip, whereas On Deck was more background noise. That being said!!! I remember my after-school program all gathering around two computer monitors to watch the Suite Life on Deck movie/double feature in 2010 lmfao. All this to say, the most visceral memory I have from that time is a classmate singing "Geezers Rock" from I'm in the Band. I don't even know if I remember the episode but that song is embedded into my brain.
Your point about raising the crazy stakes sounds similar to power creep. The next villain always has to be more powerful. The next Suite Life episode always has to be more crazy.
Honestly the most shocking thing was the promo that revealed the ending of the Twister storyline aired the same night as not only the Hannah Montana series finale but also the first part of a Good Luck Charlie special. Disney Channel’s lineup used to be STACKED!
I am from Kansas, Born and raised in Wichita and I will be the first one to say that we do in fact dream of Wizard of Oz whenever we get knocked out. 10/10 episode really accurate
Omg the british twins (jessica and janice) were the ones in the legally blonde 3 movie where elle woods was only name dropped and never actually showed her face on screen lmfao
I also feel like theres kinda just an expiration date to the live action shows, especially one about kids growing up... at some point your not living with your mom in a hotel or going to school on a yacht because you graduate and move on with your life
As someone who has problems staying focused on long videos, thank you so so much for doing a recap instead of only referring viewers to the previous videos!! This video seems super well made & you clearly put a lot of thought into this project and I appreciate it!
You forgot to mention Bailey does change her mind about Yale. The line that sticks in my head for some reason is Cody saying he'll visit because there's "an admissions guy I want to talk to." RIP that guy.
Kirby’s actor is just such a delight that the tired tropes they use for him don’t end up feeling tired. I didn’t watch this show all the way to the end as I got too old about halfway through, but I remember always enjoying Kirby compared to Woody, who has similar tropes but always came off very unlikable.
I think it helps that Kirby just really likes food and has actually talent while Woody is socially awkward and is also physically impulsive. Woody has no reason to exist in this show. Most of his role can be played by Zach or Kirby
Don't think it's happening anytime soon because I think he said he tried watching it during the Wizards video and said it was "painfully unfunny" so oof
@@ohnah6261 Honestly yeah I can see that. Upon reflection, I only watched most of these old disney sitcoms because they were what was on tv at the time. I can't think of a single one that I watched simply because I was DYING to see a new episode...
I've thought about it after watching this a couple of times. In On Deck Mr Mosby should have filled a different role instead of just being the same thing. Instead of working on the boat, Mr Mosby is given an all expense payed vacation on the cruise by Mr Tipton to both watch London and as a thank you for his years of service at The Tipton. He could take on a more relaxed role where he's just enjoying himself on the cruise. He would have a kind of retired type thing where he doesn't really care what people think, so he sometimes does weird stuff to enjoy himself, and does all the typical cruise activities. He could still be crabby and strict, especially if the kids antics get in the way of his relaxation/enjoyment. But now that he isn't in an authority position above the kids he could have more fun WITH them from time to time. He could especially be a sort of sweet parental figure for both London and the twins while they're away from home. He has known them for a while at this point. I would still have a Mr Mosby type authority figure around, maybe the captain of the ship or something idk.
pair of kings, my friend kashino says its peak until the guy on the left got into a drunk driving accident and they had to replace him. i only remember it being advertised but never watching it. so i vote pair of kings
I think for most ppl who watched pair of kings they agree with your friend too.. the moment they booted mitchel musso frm the show (not phineas and ferb tho surprisingly) and effectively replaced him with adam hicks (who would prove to have criminal records himself and history of substance abuse/violent tendencies) it ruined all sort of character development for most of the characters especially since mitchel musso was kind of written to be the main character even tho they were supposed to be co-leads because they wrote him to have a romance arc as well.. only for it to be thrown out the window
Yeah it’s true, when I saw that the last season of the show wouldn’t have Brad (Mitchel’s character) I got angry because I thought they fired him or something (I was like 12 back then and totally clueless about what happened) and quit watching it because even though Boss (Adam’s character) was cool I knew I wouldn’t like him as much as a replacement

it's actually fascinating just how unfathomably misogynistic the suite life on deck and the suite life of zack and cody were, like it's to an appalling degree lmao
I'm more appalled by the transphobia/homophobia. Doesn't happen as often, but Carrie Martin would catch Zack on top of Bob and they'd say "We were trying to burn down the tipton" and she would respond "Oh thank God"
pretty much my only clear memory of suite life on deck is Marcus' dental song. stuck in my head for years. "I'm talking east, west, north, and south/Tanisha's got that ugly moouuth" so catchy
How I would've written the finale to the Suite Life on Deck. The S.S. Tipton is ravaged by a terrible flesh eating disease. Woody is the first victim as his body starts to dissolve. He falls off the railing and into the ocean, immediately eaten by sharks, uttering 1 final *dang it* Mr. Mosby tries to keep everyone under control, but sees that the captain has died and no one else can drive the ship, dooming them all. London learns that Mr. Tipton is sending a helicopter to rescue her, but only her. Mrs. Tutweiler is next, as she feels herself growing weak from infection. Mr. Mosby holds her in his arms as she dies and she tells him that she always loved him. Mosby, devastated, looks for London for comfort, but learns she plans to escape. Feeling betrayed, he leaves her. Zack & Cody are contemplating their lives up to this point, childhood at the Tipton and school on the stupid boat. Suddenly, it's revealed Bayley has lost her mind and set the ship on fire. As the cast gets to the upper deck, Cody makes the difficult choice of throwing Bayley into the furnace, cause she's responsible and her character sucked. The cast awaits their fate, as the Tipton helicopter arrives for London, but she tells the pilot she can't leave her friends behind. Mr. Mosby decides to do the most based thing ever and get on the helicopter, but not before saying.. "I've known you boys since you were 10. You've brought my life so much chaos, I truly hope you all burn in hell. I am immune to the virus, but ya'll are screwed. I hope you had a suite life, but now you'll have a suite death." He climbs into the helicopter as the kids beg for his help, but he ignores them and leaves, watching the flaming ship sink into the watery grave. The pilot asks if he'd like to listen to the radio. He responds, coldly *Am....or FMMM?* Roll credits.

Morocco and Japan have some of the finest cuisine and best food in the entire world. It's actually kind of hilarious how out of touch the show's depictions of them are
Right??? It'd make more sense if the joke was that the food there is SO good but because of Plot Circumstances the characters are stuck with terrible foods (every place has people who suck at cooking). But no, instead it's just "lol foreign foods are weird"

London describing herself to her father as “your daughter from wife number 3” might be the saddest thing I’ve ever heard.
London would've done NUMBERS in this generation bro💀
Real cause she had to describe which wife she is the daughter of cause he couldn't remember his own child. He dropped her on the boat and just forgot about her
@@calichick097 The fact she has to say which wife means she knows she has half sisters, which naturally never gets explored for her character because this is On Deck. If she was the only child Mr Tipton had, or the only daughter, she’d just say “it’s me, your daughter”, not needing to add which wife is her mother.
So impressive that Keyan built a life size replica of the SS Tipton and sunk it himself just for the intro. Thanks for the commitment king

On Deck might've been the worst thing to happen to the franchise
However the scene "I have a problem... I'm gonna miss you" is still one of the most gutwrenching, beautiful & iconic scenes of the entire franchise. And that is all down to Brenda & Phil's chemistry as daughter/father by choice
It still makes me tear up 13 years later
Agreed. The London/Moseby dynamic was always my favourite part of the franchise.
Season 1 of the show was alright and still had a bit of the humor that the Suite life of zack and cody had but it went downhill from season 2 onwards.
I agree

I personally liked the series, still one of my favorites to this day along with the movie.
I know London is entirely flanderized and nothing like how she began, but every single clip you show of her she is still hilarious. Brenda Song is so good, damn lol "I care about these poor ugly people" got me, she just delivers the lines so well.
The writing was so bad, but Brenda Song is such a genuinely talented comedic actress, and it shows
To paraphrase Christopher Lee "a project can be bad, but an actor cannot be bad in it."
Brenda gave it her all.
Zack saying "you two should be spayed and neutered" caught me so off guard 😂😂
I remember even as a kid that line sticking out
I literally laughed out loud, I didn't expect this show to suddenly be funny
RIGHT I ACTUALLY LAUGHED
That’s a rather 18+ joke. Shit got me.
It kinda seemed like it was going that way but only in like the first episode :/
I agree it feels like where they started with her but instantly took that away. Like she can be a sweet girl and also a tomboyish girl, which I think would counter him nicely. Barbara is kind of that way too but she’s mean lol.
Damn this is a good fanfic
I swear the writers of these Disney Channel shows know, like. Exactly ONE way to write a "smart" person. So of course the idea of making Bailey rough-and-tumble _and_ a good student never crossed their minds. Which is a shame because you're right, that would've been so much better!
Interesting idea. That's a lot of words. 😊
As much as i love equality. The “way to go guys, let’s shoot for 40” joke will always get me. The line delivery being perfect doesn’t help.

You know, I don't really feel bad now, whenever Zack seems to get a girlfriend or even winning Bailey's affections more than Cody does.

That’s mad fucked up though cause he legit is in more of the show than Marcus
@@creed8712 yeah they clearly robbed him of his role, he was a minor though so his parents signed him up for it

I wasn’t fond of his character but he did deserve a main character status.

Mr. Tipton *is* Jeff Bezos, or at least the Bezos of his era. He was Richard Hilton, who at the time the show was made was among the five richest men in the world.

People like Gus, that's why him and Jordan were added. That and their consistent Series 2 back-up plot.
IVE ALWAYS THOUGHT THIS
I could be wrong, but I read somewhere that having main cast status comes with some obligations outside of the show, like doing adverts or participating in kids events Disney does.

It’s like they really just kept making this show
Heck Luke has a crush on Jessie who is a older woman like Zack crush on Maddie. Also Berteram and Mosby are similar due to hating on the kids
Again i don’t know how true it is
Dylan Sprouse would also comment on this in a 2024 interview, humorously adding that seeing the messages he got about it made him feel old.
Pretty interested in this premise, I know Cole at least has chops in the creative driver's seat from his audio adaptation of Borrasca

Not that anyone asked but
I’ll be your input for New Orleans:
And this is a nearly complete blind spot for me as I stopped watching Disney Channel almost entirely in the middle of this show.
Same. I had no idea this existed
for me this is when i begin actually remembering stuff, i began watching disney channel in 2010 i think
Same, I stopped having cable in 2010 (I was always gaming on ps3 so it was a waste of a bill). I never a got a conclusion to this or Wizards.
A London and Maddie spin off would have been good but not on the cruise ship, the cruise ship is what limits Suite Life on Deck imo
london saying goodbye to mr. moseby genuinely made me sad even if this show messed up their characters
55:51 So, fun fact, Brenda Song and George Takei would end up sharing scenes again 13 years later in the Netflix animated series Blue Eye Samurai. I didn’t recognize Brenda Song’s voice until I saw her name in the credits, and then when I saw their characters sharing scenes together, something just clicked and I realized, “Oh my God, I’ve seen them work together before!” My mind was blown when I put the pieces together!
the realization was so good. i love them both so much, especially in BES
I love when stuff like that happens.

Its charitable to think they're funny for those first two minutes lol!
@@Lisa_Flowers ur right, it wasn't even funny from the start
I was like 13 when this show ended and this was the first time I thought to myself that Disney stopped caring.
Love these Disney Retrospectives and can't wait for the next one! (I hope you cover Pair of Kings sometime in the future)

Moseby and Cody’s cameo in “Jessie” hints the fact that Cody and Bailey didn’t stick together after all, since after meeting Jessie Moseby called Cody to tell him he just met a gal who looked just like Bailey and he said he was going to New York right away to meet her, implying that he and Bailey broke up again and he wasn’t completely over it yet so he liked the idea of meeting her lookalike

god, it's sad to see how this series took such a nose dive compared to the og one and how Dylan and Cole were taken advantage of by the network, but hey good for them for making the call to move on and go to college instead.
and of the the options for the next video, I recommend Pair of Kings, watched it a bit when I was younger and it seems like a fun show :3
Pair of Kings would be cool. I liked that series when I watched it as a kid
"Veggie pizza!? Thanks, Triiip!"
Honestly the most shocking thing was the promo that revealed the ending of the Twister storyline aired the same night as not only the Hannah Montana series finale but also the first part of a Good Luck Charlie special. Disney Channel’s lineup used to be STACKED!

I also feel like theres kinda just an expiration date to the live action shows, especially one about kids growing up... at some point your not living with your mom in a hotel or going to school on a yacht because you graduate and move on with your life
Thanks for letting me relive the entire Zack and Cody shenanigans. I'm incredibly happy the "they ate them" stayed as a running gag

RIP Windell Middlebrooks
I think it helps that Kirby just really likes food and has actually talent while Woody is socially awkward and is also physically impulsive. Woody has no reason to exist in this show. Most of his role can be played by Zach or Kirby

I concur with your choice
Yeah it’s true, when I saw that the last season of the show wouldn’t have Brad (Mitchel’s character) I got angry because I thought they fired him or something (I was like 12 back then and totally clueless about what happened) and quit watching it because even though Boss (Adam’s character) was cool I knew I wouldn’t like him as much as a replacement

The S.S. Tipton is ravaged by a terrible flesh eating disease. Woody is the first victim as his body starts to dissolve. He falls off the railing and into the ocean, immediately eaten by sharks, uttering 1 final *dang it*
Mr.
I hope you had a suite life, but now you'll have a suite death."
He climbs into the helicopter as the kids beg for his help, but he ignores them and leaves, watching the flaming ship sink into the watery grave. The pilot asks if he'd like to listen to the radio.
He responds, coldly *Am....or FMMM?*
